Astra Guild Ventures, or AGV, is a gaming guild that is focused on Play-to-Earn games as a means of revenue. This guild has grown to 2,035 Axie Scholars and is growing while expanding its reach and building towards an ecosystem in the Play-to-Earn space. This is not possible without the help from the community it has grown, and such growth is built on abundance, making it a two-way street of give and take.

Ron Kevin, 28 years old, also known as Reachie, is an AGV scholar, and is part of AGV’s administration team. He is a professional by all means, working in the BPO industry as a customer service representative. AGV was able to offer him opportunities for alternative ways to earn, and one of the ways he uses his free time is to earn from playing.

 

Starting in AGV

When asked about how he started being a part of AGV, Reachie mentions that he was part of a different guild, where he hosts Q and As. He says that a friend introduced him to AGV.

“Yung iba kong friends from other guilds, nasa AGV na rin. Nung lumipat ako, I saw a lot of opportunities where I can apply yung mga natutunan ko from other guilds.” Reachie shared.

Being Part of AGV

Reachie also shared how being part of the gaming guild, AGV, improved his overall prosperity.

“During the time I was working, enough yung salary ko to cover my daily needs—my salary goes to my bills and savings. When I joined AGV, nagkaroon na ako ng extra para sa mga unexpected bills or paminsan, extra money for the things I want to buy kahit hindi naman need.” he said.

Reachie spends an average of 6 hours a day, at different times of the day, playing 3 different Play-to-Earn games such as Axie Infinity and Plants vs Undead.

“The reason you are playing is to use your free time to do something productive—in this case, I earn while I play during my free time.I can do this full time if I invest my time playing Axie Infinity as well as other games.” Reachie shared.

Reachie even tells a story wherein his parents would scold him, saying “Ano bang napapala mo sa kakalaro ng computer?” Now, he helps members of his family apply for gaming scholarships to be able to play and earn.

Going Beyond AGV

Prior to the pandemic, Reachie worked at a local restaurant as a manager for 2 years, and even did the same job abroad for another 2 years. When asked about what he will do with what he saves up from his earnings, he answers “I’m planning to invest [on cryptocurrency] tokens and then from that, I plan to have my own restaurant serving Filipino dishes. Sakin kasi, food is life.”

More importantly for Reachie, his ultimate goal is financial stability. “I’m fine with what I have right now but if there’s other opportunities, I won’t hesitate to grab it.” he said.

Leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization Tata Consultancy Services concluded TCS Sustainathon Philippines 2021 last January 28, 2022 in an exclusive online event, with the students from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and De La Salle University Manila bagging the top place with their entry Read-IO Works.

Many challenges and issues came to fore when the country’s education sector embraced distance and flexible learning amid the pandemic. Foremost of these are lack of resources, internet access, and a clear and stable line of communication between teachers and students. Through TCS Sustainathon Philippines 2021, TCS hopes to encourage and empower the Filipino youth in using technology to explore solutions for these problems, which their generation experiences first-hand, and collaborate with local stakeholders such as businesses and schools.

Students from various parts of the Philippines pitched their proposed solutions for the local theme. Among the submissions, 10 groups successfully made it to the finals.

The technologies developed by the teams involve web and mobile applications, wherein different programs are incorporated to provide convenience and flexibility in education.

TCS Sustainathon Philippines 2021 first place Read-IO Works developed Read-IO. The team comprises of Jose Javier Lasala and Janos Lance Tiberio. Their entry dove into realizing a deep-learning enabled, digital game-based reading intervention centered on phonics and oral reading fluency. The invention gives way to evidence-based instruction as well as game-based assessments that is not only accessible for offline use, but leverages the gadget distribution initiatives of the Department of Education. With Read-IO, it’s all the more possible to improve students’ reading comprehension, spelling, letter-sound knowledge, and all the other indicators of literacy.

SchoNEXT won second place. Prince Loven Abestano, Abe Apao, Esmael Amatonding, and Gwyneth Chiu explored the bounds of technology in their entry, where they seek to create a distraction-free, student-centered virtual environment for studying. Indeed, distance learning has brought in a huge change into how students learn today. As students study from their homes, an effective, self-regulated studying habit and system can go a long way—and this is what SchoNEXT aims to highlight with this virtual studying environment.

Third place went to GOLS: Gamified Online Learning Space delivered by Racquel Moran, Lance Sangcal, and Migs Ganzon. Their entry is about gamifying students’ online learning space which helps in initiating active thinking and peer-to-peer learning through interactive games. More than anything, learning is best done with peers where students can not only learn vital knowledge, but develop values of teamwork and leadership.

TCS Sustainathon Philippines 2021 Finals’ third and second placers will take home Php50,000 and Php100,000, respectively. The champion will receive Php150,000 in cash prize. TCS Sustainathon Philippines 2021 was in partnership with the Asian Development Bank, Converge ICT Solutions, Inc., Gokongwei Brothers Foundation, De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philippines, Inc., Edukasyon.ph, UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network – Youth, and ADB Southeast Asia Development Solutions (SEADS).

“TCS Sustainathon Philippines showed us the extensive knowledge and passion of the younger generation to deliver solutions to improve the current situation of our education sector. We, together with our partners, are all impressed with the work that we saw coming from these students and how they utilized technology for the better. We are looking forward to see what their initiatives can achieve and how these can help them and the country,” says TCS Philippines Country Head Shiju Varghese.

The champion and second placer will also compete against the Sustainathon winners from Singapore and Malaysia at the TCS Sustainathon ASEAN finale later this year.

Astra Guild Ventures: Investing in the future of play to earn gaming

Gaming influencers and streamers competed at Realme Cup in partnership with DITO

DITO Telecommunity joined realme in supporting the country’s gaming community as the official telco partner of the recently concluded realme Mobile Legends Cup: Streamers Royale.

The tournament streamed on the realme Philippine Facebook page, saw some of the local gaming community’s most popular influencers and streamers battle it out in Mobile Legends Livestream matches. Participating influencers included AkoSi Dogie, ChooxTV, Manjean, Sh1n Boo, Suzzysaur, Butters, and Rob Luna.

Team Panda emerged as the grand champions beating Team GHOST Wrecker during the grand finals held last December 22. The winning team, composed of Coach Panda, Demonkite, Exort, Emann, Heath, and Nathz, bagged the P100,000 grand prize. Their chosen charity will also be receiving P100,000. Aside from the main competition, the tournament also featured a highly anticipated show match between Team Bulldog and Team ChoOx.
