Beat the heat, not your wallet: Wais budget hacks to consider this summer season

Summer is here, and Filipinos know what that means: rising temperatures and rising expenses! The temptation to splurge on vacations, outdoor fun and cooling solutions—which can jack up your electricity bill—is strong.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Get ready for Home Credit's hottest deals and offers so you keep your cool this summer
-----------------------------------------------------------

But fret not because higher expenses don't have to be your summer story. With some strategic planning, you can embrace the warmth without scorching your budget. Home Credit, one of the country’s leading consumer finance companies, is here to help you navigate the season with these cool summer tips and hacks.

Create a summer budget

Summer is the time to rest and have fun, but don't let it be an excuse to overspend and ditch your budget. Make this season a breeze by creating a comprehensive summer budget tailored to your specific needs.

Categorize your spending for entertainment, travel and utilities. Since summer often brings changes in expenses, prioritize your spending and factor in potential unexpected costs. This way, you'll ensure you have allocated funds for every aspect of your summer plans, allowing you to enjoy the season without financial stress.

Take advantage of the summer discounts

The scorching heat isn't the only thing rising this summer—so are the hottest discounts on appliances and gadgets! Dive into the season as a smart shopper by seeking out the latest summer deals at your favorite stores.

These deals aren't just about saving money, they're about aligning your budget with your summer needs, and having options to better manage your cash flow. By strategically shopping and focusing on your essential purchases, you can enjoy significant cost savings while avoiding the temptation to overspend. Remember, smart shopping doesn't mean buying less, it means buying better.

Utilize energy-efficient appliances

Summer in the Philippines is synonymous with scorching heat, making appliances like powerful fans, refrigerators and air conditioners essential. But choosing the right ones can impact your budget significantly, like appliances powered by inverter technology.

Unlike traditional appliances, inverter models are designed to optimize energy consumption. This translates to a cost-effective and ecofriendly solution for battling the summer heat. These energy-efficient wonders offer the ultimate double win: keeping you cool while keeping your electricity bills down.

Plan summer travels wisely

Rest and relaxation are a must do during summer, but you will only get nothing but stress when these are not planned strategically. If a summer escape is on your mind, do it smarter, not harder. Start by exploring budget-friendly destinations and consider visiting during off-peak times. This not only avoids crowds, but also unlocks hidden gems that won't break the bank.

Another pro tip to follow is to book in advance to not only secure your spot early, but also unlock discounted prices on flight and accommodations. Remember, a little strategic planning goes a long way to ensure you make the most of your summer adventure without burning a hole in your pocket.

Find alternative summer activities on a budget

If you want to celebrate fun in summer on a budget, don’t worry because it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. This is the perfect time to explore rewarding and relaxing activities that won’t break the bank.

Gather your loved ones for a picnic in a scenic park, enjoying fresh air, delicious homemade food, and quality time together. You can also head to a nearby mall for a cool escape. Relax in a café, grab a meal at a restaurant, or simply browse the shops.

Lastly, if you have a family, create lasting memories at home. Play outdoor games with your kids, have a movie night with refreshing drinks, or simply chill out with the cool air provided by your inverter AC.

Inverter Na ‘Yan: Home Credit’s Guide to Energy-Efficient Appliances this Summer

As the summer season slowly rolls in, we are once again experiencing the intense heat that accompanies this time of the year. To stay comfortable during this hot weather, we rely more on appliances to cool down, leading to increased energy use.
----------------------------------
Gear up for exclusive deals on your preferred inverter appliances this dry season
----------------------------------

This is why we often consider efficiency a crucial factor when selecting our home appliances. A 2022 study by Clasp, titled “From Informational to Comparative: The New Philippine Energy Label,” revealed that, particularly for appliances like air conditioners, energy efficiency is the top priority for 86 percent of Filipino consumers, followed by durability and affordability.

With this trend, the use of inverter technology in appliances becomes a priority. An advantage of inverter appliances is that they intelligently control the motor’s speed and power consumption based on the requirements for cooling or even washing to reduce energy use, contributing to the reduction of electricity bills.

If you are considering switching to appliances equipped with inverter technology this summer season, Home Credit, one of the country’s leading consumer finance companies, offers a guide to household devices you can replace for an energy-efficient lifestyle.

Beat the summer heat with inverter air conditioners

Inverter air conditioners are unlike traditional ones which operate at full power until a specific space is cool enough and then shut down. These energy-efficient appliances run with special motors that can adjust their speed, maintaining a room's temperature without the energy-consuming process of constantly turning it on and off.

You can experience this incredible feature with models like the Carrier 1.0HP Inverter Window Type Air Conditioner and the Samsung 1.0HP WindFree Split Type Inverter Air Conditioner that offer remarkable cooling to combat the summer heat while also prioritizing energy efficiency.

Keep your refreshments cool with inverter refrigerators

Like inverter air conditioners, refrigerators equipped with this technology boast enhanced energy efficiency thanks to a motor that automatically changes its speed to match the cooling needs—preventing unnecessary on-and-off cycles. When the temperature inside the refrigerator rises above the set point, the compressor slows down, maintaining consistent cooling while minimizing energy consumption.

For those in search of inverter refrigerators to keep their daily refreshments and food supplies cool even in intense heat without the concern of higher electricity bills, consider options such as the Panasonic Two Door No Frost Inverter with Econavi Technology Refrigerator (9.5 cu ft) and the LG 7.2 cu ft Two Door Smart Inverter No Frost Refrigerator.

Optimize your laundry routine with inverter washing machines

To take your pursuit of energy efficiency to the next level, you can also incorporate inverter washing machines into your laundry routine. With inverter technology, their performance adapts to the size and type of laundry, enabling you to use only the necessary amount of water and energy for each load.

You can enjoy this performance from the likes of Whirlpool 8.5kg Top Load Inverter Washing Machine and LG 7.5kg Top Load Smart Inverter Washing Machine. By utilizing inverter washing machines, you can further advance your energy-efficient goals.

Watch out for exciting deals this summer season!

This upcoming summer season, Home Credit is offering fantastic deals to help you realize these inverter appliances, starting March 15 to May 31, 2024. Be sure to mark your calendars to not miss this incredible opportunity.

Stay tuned for installment deals on a range of products, including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and more. These exciting offers will be available on Shoppingmall.ph.

Home Credit Philippines signs additional 7B Loan Credit Facility with BPI

Home Credit Philippines (HCPH) recently signed an agreement for an additional P7 billion loan facility with Ayala-led Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), making BPI the company’s biggest creditor with a total of P13.5 billion combined credit line facilities.

This is the third loan credit facility extended by BPI to HCPH, following a P1 billion facility in December 2022, P4 billion in August 2023, and an additional P1.5 billion in November 2023 from Robinsons Bank Corporation; following its recent merger with BPI.

Home Credit is the largest consumer finance company in the Philippines. As of end-2023, it has served 10.4 million customers all over the country through a selection of affordable and accessible financing products.

“We at BPI are committed to accelerating our efforts to elevate financial inclusion in the Philippines. This forms part of our vision to help build a better Philippines—one family, one community at a time,” said BPI President and CEO TG Limcaoco.

“This additional loan credit facility to Home Credit, extended by no less than BPI, the first bank in the Philippines and the Southeast Asian Region, is a strong testament to the strong performance and stability of Home Credit’s business in the country as a leading consumer finance company,” Zdenek Jankovsky, HCPH director and treasurer, said.

Home Credit Philippines was issued a double-A Issuer Credit Rating with stable outlook by PhilRatings (Philippine Rating Services Corporation), a pioneer domestic credit rating agency, in 2023 based on its overall creditworthiness and ability to meet all its financial commitments and sustain its growth in its market.

“This local loan credit facility will enable us to better serve our 10-million strong customer base, allowing us to expand access to credit opportunities for more Filipinos,” Jankovsky added.
Also in witness of the signing event were BPI officers and executives (from left): Micah Clemente, Relationship Manager; Barbara Untalan, Head of Top Corporates-MNCs and Sectors; Maria Teresa Anna Lim, Head of MNCs and Sectors and; and Grace Saulog, Head of Financial Institutions and Correspondent Banking; with Henry Segovia, Home Credit Funding and Business Development Manager.

Home Credit Philippines has been at the forefront of broadening financial inclusion in the Philippines for more than a decade since it opened its doors in the country in 2013. It has continuously provided innovative credit opportunities for Filipinos especially to women, young people, and those earning less than 20,000 a month.

HC Consumer Finance Philippines Inc., HCPH’s corporate entity, was acquired by Thailand’s Krungsri (Bank of Ayudhya PCL) and Japan’s MUFG (Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc.) in June 2023.

"With you through thick and thin" , A captivating story of love with Home Credit

Finding the ideal gift amidst the whirlwind of wedding preparations is no easy feat, yet it's one task that’s filled with heartfelt intentions. For Diana Marie Mendoza-Zabala, a devoted high school Science teacher, this quest took on a new significance just three days before saying “I do.” to Joemar Zabala, a secondary Social Studies educator.

The perfect partner para sa love

Wedding preparations are usually hectic, and Diana and Joemar weren’t exempted from this experience when they started getting ready for their big day. Their schedules and calendars were so full that Diana almost forgot to buy a special gift for Joemar, a present that was intended to be a part of their vows.

Three days before their special day, Diana revisited the mall where they first crossed paths with a clear idea of what she wanted to give him—a watch that would perfectly symbolize their enduring, timeless love. She scoured the mall and found a variety of options, some more affordable than others, but a particular timepiece caught her attention.

(I purchased my wedding gift for Joemar in SM Store Lucena. I really wanted to give him a wristwatch as a gift, but at that time, I didn’t have enough money for it. I was thinking of possible ways to get it, even though I didn’t have enough cash on hand, when the sales lady assisting me called for Home Credit’s sales associate. The associate then went on to tell me that, as luck would have it, Home Credit had a 0% interest promo at that time.

Before I gave my gift to Joemar, I wrote him a letter, indicating in the last part that I had already paid for the wristwatch’s downpayment, he just needed to pay for the remaining three-month installment fees, but with no interest).

The lifelong companion in every chapter

And then, it was D-day. As Diana presented Joemar with her gift availed through Home Credit, videographer Bryant Nanez captured the heartfelt moment, where Diana even presented Joemar with the Home Credit care card as part of her present, in a sensational same-day-edit video. The sincerity and distinctiveness of the gesture caused the video, which was posted online, to go viral and quickly garner over 41.5K views. The unexpected attention from the public was a delightful surprise for the couple, who were overjoyed to see their wedding inspiring viewers.

“At Home Credit, we understand the importance of celebrating life's special moments, especially when it comes to love. As a trusted lifestyle partner, our commitment lies in delivering convenient and fast access to credit, empowering Filipinos to lead the lives they deserve. We are overjoyed to be a part of not just Diana and Joemar's beautiful love story, but also of the multitude of life stories that we touch through our services,” Sheila Paul, Chief Marketing Officer of Home Credit Philippines, expressed.

Joemar conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to Home Credit for consistently serving as a reliable partner throughout the various chapters of his life.

(If Home Credit were a person, we would thank them profusely because they were there for us when we had close to none. Now that we are starting our married life, we would like to build a home and try to use Home Credit for it.

However, we would wait first to finish our existing Home Credit loan, since acquiring loans is a process that needs thorough thinking and planning. Getting loans is a responsibility, and the things that we get to use and enjoy because of it need the right repayments since the creditor was generous enough to let us borrow, and the process of borrowing was also fast and convenient.)

With this touching wedding tale, how did Joemar discover the love of his life, Diana? To unveil the enchanting story that binds them, let's rewind to the very beginning.

A tale of love at first sight

Diana and Joemar's charming love story unfolded when fate intervened one day. According to Joemar, the magic began with a love-at-first-sight encounter. Sometime in 2017, while browsing through social media, he stumbled upon Diana's profile, tagged in a wedding photo shared by mutual friends.

“Social media talaga ang naging way para magkakilala kami nitong aking asawa. [Noong nakita ko siya], sabi ko, why not i-chat ko siya? Noong first time ko siyang na-meet, parang na-love at first sight ako. Na-realize ko agad na magiging asawa ko siya,” Joemar fondly reminisced.

(Social media paved the way for our paths to cross. When I first saw her profile, all I could think of was sending her a chat message. The first time I met her, it felt like love at first sight, and I already knew back then that she would be my future wife.)

Following their initial meeting, their love blossomed, leading them to officially become a couple. During the first two years of their relationship, they chose to keep things lowkey, recognizing Diana's parents' protective nature. They discreetly went on dates, always respecting her parents' wishes, and adhering to her 7 PM curfew, despite both being of legal age.

As a couple, Joemar and Diana share a simple yet meaningful connection, marked by common hobbies, interests, and values. They enjoy exploring different restaurants, savoring new experiences one venue at a time—and being practical about it. This love language formed the foundation of their relationship.

Seven years down the road, Joemar and Diana embraced the next chapter of their love story, deciding to exchange vows and tie the knot in 2023. After their union, Joemar and Diana were abundantly blessed. They acquired a new home and a car, and the blessings continued with the anticipation of a baby on the way.

Home Credit is the Key: Back-to-School Campaign bags Silver at 59th Anvil Awards

In a celebration of excellence at the 59th Anvil Awards, Home Credit Philippines' innovative "Home Credit is the Key: Back-to-School (BTS) Campaign" secured the prestigious Silver

Anvil in the Marketing and Brand Communication sub-category under the Public Relations Programs category.

The awards ceremony, dubbed the 'Oscars of Public Relations' in the Philippines, took place at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Newport City on January 31, drawing representatives from companies and agencies across the country.

Home Credit, a leading consumer finance company, addressed the challenges faced by parents, particularly moms, during the back-to-school season. The campaign aimed to empower mothers as the primary financial decision-makers and budget planners in their families, navigating the rising costs of education and school supplies.

Running from July 1 to September 30, 2023, the "Home Credit is the Key" campaign provided a backup for moms by offering affordable financing options. Home Credit introduced zero-interest payment plans, easing the financial burden on mothers striving to provide their children with the best education. Flexible payment plans were also made available, ensuring that the cost of education could be spread over manageable installments, thus alleviating financial strain.

"We understand the challenges that parents face during the back-to-school season. Our Back-to-School Campaign aimed to provide not just financial assistance but also peace of mind to mothers who work tirelessly to ensure their children receive a quality education. Winning the Silver Anvil is a testament to the campaign's impact and the recognition of our Public Relations efforts to support families in this crucial aspect of their lives," said Ken Lerona, Head of PR, Home Credit Philippines.

The campaign also emphasized maintaining peace of mind for mothers by using Home Credit's services, allowing them to preserve their savings as a safety net for emergencies or future investments.

The campaign strategically employed public relations and communication tactics to engage and empower its target audience, specifically mothers and their children. Home Credit Philippines collaborated with its agency-on-record, Dugenia, Marayan and Associates Company (DM&A Co.), to implement this compelling initiative.

A key aspect of the campaign's success was the dissemination of impactful narratives to various media titles, partners, and bloggers. By pitching these powerful stories, the campaign effectively resonated with the intended audience, making their back-to-school shopping experience easier and lighter.

“Working with Home Credit Philippines on this campaign was a rewarding experience. We aimed to not only meet the challenges faced by parents but to exceed expectations in providing practical solutions. The Silver Anvil is a validation of the effectiveness and innovation embedded in our approach,” said Michael Dugenia, Managing Partner of DM&A Co.

The Anvil Awards, presented by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP), received nearly 500 entries from over 100 companies and agencies, including local government units. The 59th Anvil Awards showcased new categories under PR Programs, such as Best Use of Digital, Best Use of Social Media, and Best PR-led Integrated Campaign.

Home Credit Philippines' Back-to-School Campaign stood out among the top entries, securing the Silver Anvil, and reinforcing its commitment to excellence in community support.

The Filipinos’ favorite: Home Credit financed 1.7M mobile phones in 2023

As 2023 comes to a close, Home Credit, the country’s leading consumer finance company, reveals an interesting trend in the Philippine market: an increase in the number of purchases of various commodities, particularly mobile phones with 1.7M units financed. This surge in products sold was facilitated through Home Credit’s year-long promos, including the most recent 0% interest on installment financing.

This year, Home Credit saw a significant upswing in purchases across different categories, showing a shift in what consumers prefer. With a focus on empowering Filipinos to realize their personal and family goals, Home Credit's offerings have reflected an evolution in lifestyle choices and aspirations.

Among the highlighted categories, mobile and tablet purchases garnered the greatest number of units sold, indicating a continued reliance on these devices for work, education, and entertainment. The volume sold in this category, marked by an impressive 1.7M units, showcases the enduring significance of these gadgets in everyday life. For this year, the brand to highlight is Apple, which is now the top mobile brand for Home Credit, with a 100% sales increase from last year.

Filipino consumers have also shown a marked interest in upgrading their living spaces. The appeal of modernizing households resonated strongly, evident in the 420,000 units of home appliances financed by Home Credit. The specifications of these appliances, tailored to enhance convenience and efficiency, have appealed to consumers seeking to upgrade their home appliances in time for the new year.

Meanwhile, the demand for TV and electronics, computers, furniture, and other home improvement materials saw notable traction, signifying a desire for enhanced connectivity and comfort in homes. The specifications of these products, focused on delivering superior performance and comfort, have been key factors driving their popularity.

When it comes to goods supporting sustainability, the demand has also been noteworthy, especially for e-bikes. This year, Home Credit has seen a 122% sales growth in e-bikes, a proof point in the growing trend of green living and alternative transportation products.

The introduction of The Great 0% Festival by Home Credit has been pivotal in driving these purchases.
