PLDT undisputed as fastest Internet service provider for five straight years

PLDT Inc. (PLDT) has achieved a five-peat win at the Ookla® Speedtest Awards™ 2022 -- a first for PLDT, and for the Philippines.

PLDT President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio leads a toast to their Fastest Internet 5 Years In A Row award with (L-R): PLDT Senior Vice President - Head of Consumer Sales Group Alex O. Caeg, First Vice President - Head of Enterprise and International Business Groups Albert Mitchell L. Locsin, Ookla CTO Luke Deryckx, PLDT Senior Vice President - Head of Home Business Group Jeremiah M. de la Cruz, PLDT and Smart Network Head Roderick Santiago, and Ookla Senior Vice President and Global Head of Sales and Enterprise Services Kuljeet Randhawa.

Global benchmarking company Ookla® announced that PLDT, the country’s largest digital services provider, achieved a top speed score of 86.52 in 2022, affirming the telco’s dominance and consistent performance in delivering the country’s fastest Internet speeds for the fifth consecutive year.

Leading the Philippines’ digital transformation

PLDT has consistently dominated the Ookla® Speedtest Awards™ for five consecutive years as a result of the telco giant’s aggressive network expansion and drive to lift the quality of customer experience.

The PLDT Group has been supporting the country’s digitalization by bringing the benefits of connectivity and other digital services to more areas in the Philippines. In 2022, PLDT recorded a total of 6.08 million fiber-powered ports, covering around 17,700 barangays across the country.

“PLDT’s commitment is to help build and empower the nation by setting the bar high in providing world-class digital services for Filipinos,” said PLDT President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio. “For the past five years, PLDT has made big strides to elevate our customers’ experience by delivering the best fixed network services. We intend to keep this momentum and to go above and beyond in ensuring that our customers get the best digital experience wherever they need it – at home, school, or the office.”

PLDT remains the only telco in the Philippines that can deliver the fastest fiber-optic speeds of up to 10 Gbps, which was made available to the public as early as 2021. This groundbreaking move has placed the Philippines alongside first-world nations in terms of ultra-fast internet speeds including South Korea, Japan, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and USA.

As of end-2022, PLDT achieved an all-time high number of home broadband customers by adding 1.1 million new fiber subscribers, capturing 59% of fiber customer industry growth for 2022. This brought PLDT Home’s total fiber subscribers to 2.9 million.

PLDT Home continues to be the trusted telco provider of Filipinos that delivers the fastest internet and future-ready innovations in their homes. Leading innovations for the home broadband segment in 2022, PLDT Home boosted its efforts to give customers the best digital experience at home by increasing the speeds of all its Fiber plans up to two times faster than previous speeds.

The PLDT Group, through its ICT subsidiary ePLDT, also provides data center, multi-cloud and cybersecurity solutions that enable the digital transformation of large companies, Micros, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to help drive the country’s inclusive economic growth. Leveraging on PLDT’s advance infrastructure, ePLDT is the country’s leading provider of data center and multi-cloud managed service offerings.

Locsin, PLDT and Smart Network Head Roderick Santiago and Ookla Senior Vice President and Global Head of Sales and Enterprise Services Kuljeet Randhawa.

The Most Coveted Ookla Speedtest Award

PLDT is the only telco in the Philippines that has ever achieved a five-peat for the highest award from Ookla. According to Ookla, only a handful of internet service providers have won the prestigious award for five consecutive years worldwide. In Southeast Asia, only PLDT as the leading telco in the Philippines has this honor, alongside Singapore’s ViewQWest.

Ookla’s Chief Technology Officer, Luke Deryckx, affirms PLDT’s superior network performance for the past five years. He says, “With over 18 million consumer-initiated tests taken daily and billions of data points gathered, the Ookla data paints a clear picture of the performance, quality, and availability of virtually every network in the world. We are proud to recognize PLDT’s hard work in providing the fastest Internet experience in the Philippines and celebrate their achievements in superior network performance over the last 5 years.”

With the consistent wins at the Ookla® Speedtest Awards, PLDT also clocked the top speeds in major areas in the Philippines and bested all other major telco providers in 2022 including Pasig City, Cagayan de Oro, Baguio City, amongst others.

All these achievements are powered by PLDT’s widest fiber network in the country which now spans 1.1 million kilometers, extending its reach to 17.2 million homes passed, in 68% of the country’s cities and municipalities.

Anne Curtis, Jane de Leon team up in Smart's new powerful campaign

Smart Communications, Inc. ,  is the Best Mobile Network in the Philippines for the first half of 2022, according to Speedtest by Ookla.

Bannering the best customer experience that subscribers enjoy on the Smart network, multi-hyphenate star Anne Curtis and rising actress Jane de Leon have suited up as two powerful superheroes in Smart’s latest campaign video, revealing its groundbreaking “Best Mobile Network” recognition from Ookla®, the global leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence.

A first for a mobile operator in the Philippines, the “Best Mobile Network” award was given to Smart after winning Fastest Mobile Network and Best Mobile Coverage for Q1 to Q2 2022.

“We want to celebrate this milestone by putting together two of today's remarkable women—this generation’s Dyosa and Darna—in one campaign that shows just how Filipinos are empowered with the best mobile experience on the Smart network. Anne has been a long-time Smart user and endorser while Jane is excited to further explore the power of Smart. Like Anne and Jane, we want our customers to enjoy the same powerful experience,” said Francis E. Flores, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business - Individual at Smart.

Powerful women in their own way

Indeed, as Anne and Jane power through obstacles in the action-packed video complete with dynamic effects and stunts, they assert: “When you have the power of the fastest speed, and when you have the power of the widest coverage, you get the best overall experience.”

According to Flores, although Anne and Jane are in different phases of their careers, both are powerful women in their own special way.

A Smart endorser for over 10 years now, Anne has seen Smart evolve through the years even as she established herself as one of the biggest local celebrities today and remains as the most followed Filipino celebrity on social media.

“I have been a loyal Smart subscriber for years, and it's because Smart has allowed me to do so much - it’s almost like having superpowers. I’ve always been so proud to be part of this family and even happier now that the brand that has empowered me all these years is today’s Best Mobile Network,” said Anne.

On the other hand, Jane is about to make her mark in showbiz as she becomes the iconic Filipino superhero Darna. Her journey in getting this life-changing role serves as an inspiration for everyone to power through challenges, according to Flores.

“I’m happy to be part of the Smart family. I can’t even begin to tell you guys how much this means to me because I’m so excited to endorse a network that really empowers me to do what I want,” said Jane.

Experience the Power of Smart

With Smart’s fastest speeds, subscribers can do and accomplish more – from connecting with loved ones in crystal-clear calls, sending important work and school files in seconds, sharing content on social media in real-time, to enjoying their favorite videos, music, and games seamlessly.

Smart’s widest coverage means subscribers can stay connected more – whether it’s from the comfort of their home or office, the commute to school or work, or outside the city for a well-deserved break.

The latest Ookla Speedtest Awards add to Smart’s recent string of citations that reinforce its network leadership. Last April, independent firm Opensignal declared Smart as the “operator to beat in the Philippines” as it dominated the Opensignal Mobile Experience Awards**, covering the essential aspects of service, especially speed and experience. These awards include Best Overall Experience for Video, Games, Voice App, and Download Speed across all technologies.

Non-Smart subscribers can experience the power of Smart without changing their number through Mobile Number Portability, a service that can be conveniently booked via https://smart.com.ph/Pages/mobilenumberportability and at Smart Stores nationwide. PLDT Home, Google launch Be Internet Awesome online series

New kid-oriented show aims to teach kids how to be smart, alert, strong, kind, and brave online

Be Internet Awesome’s lead characters - Sam Elora (L) and Robo-berto

Following its partnership announcement to further strengthen efforts in educating Filipino kids and families about internet safety and digital responsibility, the Philippines’ leading home broadband and digital service provider PLDT Home and Google joined forces in creating a kid-oriented video series online.

The Be Internet Awesome online series combines animation and live action — featuring Gen Alpha whiz Sam and his trusty friend Robo-berto in fun-filled yet enlightening adventures on how to be smart, alert, strong, kind, and brave online. The series is based on the values of Google’s Be Internet Awesome global program and is directed by Manny Angeles, an award-winning director and producer of kid-oriented and animated shows.

Available in both English and Filipino in the Philippines, Be Internet Awesome aims to teach children the fundamentals of leading a digital life which includes what kind of information to post on social media and how to deal with cyberbullying among others. This is part of the many efforts of Google to help keep people safe online.

(L-R): PLDT Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Business Home Group, Jeremiah de la Cruz; Google Philippines Marketing Head, Gabby Roxas; First Vice President and Head of PLDT Home Product Management and Marketing, John Henri Yanez

“Our children are true digital natives. They grew up with the internet and everything the digital world has to offer. But as they broaden their horizons for discovery and learning, it also exposes them to risks and dangers,” said Jeremiah de la Cruz, Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Home Group, PLDT Inc. “Through this original series, we at PLDT Home want to translate the teachings from Google’s Be Internet Awesome program into an entertaining and practical show that children can enjoy watching while learning about online safety early on.”

“PLDT Home’s partnership with Google for Be Internet Awesome aligns with our larger group-wide commitment: to strengthen customer-centricity. At PLDT, we not only find ways to simplify technology and experience for our customers, but we also strive to do business responsibly by putting their safety and well-being at the forefront of all our products and services,” said Alfredo S. Panlilio, President and CEO of PLDT Inc. And Smart Communications, Inc.

In 2021, PLDT also invested over P2 billion in cybersecurity and protection filtering. The country’s largest integrated telco has since been very active in detecting, responding, and preventing both domain and content-level access to child sexual abuse material (CSAM) within the network. PLDT’s Child Protection Platform has blocked almost 300,000 URLs linked CSAM by the end of May and prevented more than a billion attempts to access these illegal sites from November last year to May this year.

“After launching Be Internet Awesome in 2021 in the Philippines, we are glad to have found a like-minded partner in PLDT who champions the same values when it comes to protecting kids online. Through PLDT and more potential partners in the future, we hope to scale Be Internet Awesome and provide more families with a practical way of teaching digital safety and wellness to their children so they can become responsible, confident explorers of the online world,” said Bernadette Nacario, Country Director of Google Philippines.

PLDT is PH’s fastest internet provider in 2021 – Ookla®

PLDT Home remains undisputed as the fastest broadband network in the Philippines, dominating telco rivals with a Speed Score™ of 77.24 at the Ookla® Speedtest Awards™ for Q3-Q4 2021.

The latest result showed a big jump from PLDT’s Speed Score of 27.28 in the second half of the previous year. Speed Score is a measure that takes into account both upload and download speeds.

Latest data from the global benchmarking company also showed PLDT besting all other internet service providers (ISPs) in the country with top upload and download speeds of 217.07 Mbps and 203.97 Mbps, respectively.

In determining the network speed of ISPs, Ookla® compared data gathered from millions of consumer-initiated tests taken on Speedtest® platforms. The data include tests done by Filipino internet users on various networks using digital devices connected via Wi-Fi and fixed networks.

“Fast internet is no longer a luxury because it’s what Filipinos depend on to earn, work, and study from home. We’ve been relentless in continuously building and upgrading our network so that our customers enjoy better and future-ready homes,” says Butch G. Jimenez, Jr., Senior Vice President and Head of PLDT Home Business.

Fastest Broadband in PH’s Key Cities

Based on the latest Ookla® data, PLDT registered the highest upload and download speeds in key major cities in the Philippines – Manila, Cebu and Davao Cities.

In Manila, PLDT bested major ISPs - including Converge, Globe, and Sky – with upload and download speeds of 54.52 Mbps and 58.57 Mbps, respectively. In Cebu, PLDT recorded 76.14 Mbps and 74.22 Mbps upload and download speeds, respectively. In Davao, PLDT is the fastest fixed network over ISPs Globe and Sky, with upload and download speeds of 70.06 Mbps and 71.50 Mbps, respectively.

When analyzing the fastest ISPs, Ookla assesses the fastest network speeds attained across a given network, accounting for tests that are taken on various Speedtest applications that connect to a fixed network, including tests taken on mobile phones over a Wi-Fi connection. Each top carrier accounts for at least 3% of the sample size in the geographic area.

Setting the Bar for PH Internet Speeds

PLDT consistently dominates the Ookla® Speedtest Awards™ in the past four years as a result of the telco giant’s aggressive network expansion initiatives. In the second half of 2021, PLDT Home launched its biggest speed upgrade for customers with thrice as much speeds versus the previous broadband plans.

In November 2021, PLDT Home launched the country’s first-ever 10,000 Mbps fiber-optic service in the Philippines, putting the country alongside first-world nations that have access to such ultra-fast home interne speeds such as South Korea, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and USA.

“The demand for the fastest broadband in the Philippines remains strong and we’re investing as well in our capabilities to install, upgrade, and repair throughout the year,” concludes Butch G. Jimenez, Jr., Senior Vice President and Head of PLDT Home Business.

PLDT Home continues to set the bar for the future of home internet connectivity in the Philippines as it provides access to future-ready innovations including top-of-the-line Smart Home solutions such as Wifi Mesh devices, Entertainment and Security services bundled with its flexible broadband plans.

Watch: PLDT Home’s Heart-tugging Christmas Video Gives Tribute to Filipinos all over the world

This Christmas, PLDT Home
gives tribute to Filipinos all over the world in a special video that celebrates the real and meaningful connections of families made possible by the power of the Internet.

In a heartwarming 45-second video featuring the iconic and sentimental Yuletide ballad “Pasko na, Sinta ko” (Christmas is here, my love), PLDT Home puts a spotlight on the uniquely Filipino touch of celebrating Christmas by connecting with family and loved ones. Aired over PLDT Home’s social media channels, the video depicts how the Filipino tradition of coming home for Christmas transcends even distance as many rely on the internet to keep family connections strong, especially in trying times.

Topping all other Filipino merry-making traditions, like karoling, parol, and bibingka, Christmas for Pinoys won’t be complete without hearing the familiar voices and seeing the bright faces of loved ones by our side. And if we can’t be with them personally, the next best option is to be with them virtually, powered by the country’s fastest internet connection, PLDT Home.
“For us Filipinos, Christmas comes alive the moment we’re gathered with family. Whether huddled in a dining room or in a virtual room, our connection matters most. To reconnect, get closer, and catch up with people who mean the world to us, that’s the most perfect Christmas gift we could ask for. Enabling this family connectedness has been the driving inspiration behind PLDT Home’s growth this year. As always, our fervent hope has been for Filipinos everywhere to enjoy the strongest connections with their family, for a brighter Christmas this year,” said Butch Jimenez, Senior Vice-President and Head of Consumer Business-Home Group.

As the Philippines’ most reliable and fastest internet connection provider, PLDT Home continues to set the standard for the country’s broadband services. PLDT Home first to launch Philippines’ fastest, future-ready 10,000 Mbps service

PLDT Home launches the first-ever 10,000 Mbps fiber-optic service in the Philippines, in a history-making move towards the future of home connectivity.

Pioneered by the Philippines’ fastest broadband internet service provider, the new service now puts the country next to first-world nations such as South Korea, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and the USA, in terms of having access to ultra-fast home internet speed.

PLDT Home is confident its 10,000 Mbps service will set the bar for the future of internet speeds in the Philippines.

“We at PLDT continue to play an active role in shaping the future of our country and leading the way towards a connected nation. We are doing all these for our north star – our customers: business owners, professionals, tech mavericks with very large homes, multiple high-bandwidth users with multiple screens. And with all that life requires of them, they need the fastest home broadband powered by the fastest network. And we are more than ready to give them what they need – all 10,000 of it,” said Alfredo Panlilio, PLDT President and Chief Executive Officer.

PLDT Home pilots its 10,000 Mbps service in Metro Manila this December and will then implement further expansions in other key cities outside Metro Manila like Cebu and Davao in 2022.

The future of smart homes is here

The planned rollout is the culmination of PLDT Home’s year-long network expansion program in 2021, in a deliberate move to provide Filipino homes with only the strongest internet connections.

“Consistent with our commitment to provide superior technology to address the Filipinos’ growing digital connectivity needs, PLDT Home continues to innovate and make a difference in the lives of our customers,” said Butch G. Jimenez, Senior Vice President and Head of PLDT Home Business. “With our all-new, upgraded, and fastest internet speed, Filipino homes will now be able to experience and enjoy the future — that is the smart home.”

Leading market and consumer data provider Statista.com defines “smart home” as a private household controlled, monitored, and regulated through networked devices. Statista predicted a household penetration rate in the Philippines of 7.5% for 2021 and 14.2% (or 3.4 million active smart homes) by 2025.

A 10,000 Mbps connection thus makes the perfect partner for the bandwidth-hungry smart home. To cater to the growing number of smart homes in the Philippines, PLDT Home’s new Fiber Plan comes with a WiFi 6 Mesh System that will guarantee ultra-fast WiFi speeds covering an area of over 550 square meters.

“Launching 10,000 Mbps shows our commitment to bring the country’s digital infrastructure to the future. PLDT Home’s fiber will not just power smart homes, but also new metaverse applications that are currently in development around the globe,” said PLDT Senior Advisor for Home Business Jeremiah De La Cruz.

The most powerful fiber internet in PH

PLDT Home has also launched the most powerful Fiber plans this November. As a treat for consumers this holiday season, these new plans automatically give PLDT Home Fiber subscribers free upgrades of as much as three times their subscribed internet speeds.

All PLDT Home subscribers can now enjoy the fastest and most superior internet speeds to power their smart home devices and cover their homes with seamless whole-home wifi connectivity.

As the undisputed fastest fixed network in the country, PLDT Home delivers the most powerful broadband services for Filipinos. As of September 2021, PLDT has added 324,000 new fiber subscribers, wrapping up the third quarter with a market-leading count of 2.77 million fixed broadband customers.

PLDT offers the best high-speed plans to different parts of the country reinforced by the Group’s expansive 615,000 kilometers of fiber-optic network. The company thus delivers fixed broadband connectivity to an estimated 12.7 million homes passed.

The telco giant continues to set the standard for broadband service in the country with its four-peat record at the prestigious Ookla® Speedtest Awards™ for Q1-Q2 2021, recording an overall speed score of 46.25 Mbps. With its recent feat, PLDT remains and will remain at the top of its game.

“Our collaboration with Unilever is an example of how like-minded enterprises can team up to become a force for good, especially in ensuring that Filipino students continue to have access to proper education through seamless online learning experience,” said Peter Maquera, Senior Vice President for Globe Business, Enterprise Group.

Globe Business: a trusted partner of educators and distance learners

While internet usage has dramatically increased over the last year, the World Bank reports that the Philippines has trailed behind its regional neighbors in terms of digital adoption in 2020.

Globe continues to be at the forefront of efforts that help make distance learning more efficient and accessible, which includes programs that assist academic institutions as they migrate to online learning platforms.

This year, the telco giant has extended free access to government learning platforms such as DepEd Commons and Phil-Connect for distance learners. Through this plan, data is only charged when a user is brought to an external site outside the whitelisted websites.

“Globe believes in the power of education to enable a brighter future for Filipinos,” added Peter Maquera. “This is why we remain committed to developing solutions and forging partnerships and programs to enable the youth and academic institutions to thrive amidst changing learning structures.”

Globe also launched its e-Library, a free learning resource that Globe and TM subscribers can access to help them with their assignments and expand their learning through the materials made available on the platform.

To safeguard underage students from exposure to harmful content on the internet, Globe has also rolled out the Digital Thumbprint Program which helps teach young students the rudiments of online safety, digital responsibility, and online discernment and empowerment. The program has recently ramped up its campaign against online sexual abuse and exploitation of children through insightful educational sessions.

GDay everyday with bigger, better GlobeOne Super App

Globe launches the new GlobeOne Super App, a platform that aims to consolidate the customer experience for Globe, TM, Globe At Home WiFi, and MyFi subscribers with prepaid accounts in just one app.

From linking multiple accounts for easy monitoring, to managing consumer transactions such as buying load, redeeming rewards, and availing exclusive promos, the super app can practically do it all for subscribers.

“We always find ways on how we can innovate and better serve our customers. With the launch of the new GlobeOne super app, we are empowering our subscribers through simplified processes and convenient customer experience,” said Juuya Reyes, Product Owner of the new GlobeOne App.

The simplified dashboard functions as the subscribers’ home base for total account management, where users can view and monitor current promo subscriptions for data, content, call, and text. Meanwhile, the shop section allows users to buy, send, and request load or credits.

Linking accounts to the app is as easy as just a few clicks. Users can register for a GlobeOne account with their email or social media accounts, and then they’re all set! Registered account holders can simply select which accounts they want to monitor, and all details will be displayed on the app dashboard.

Reyes clarified that the initial launch is specific to prepaid subscribers, with postpaid accounts expected to be onboard within balance year 2021.

Globe Rewards will also be one of the features integrated into the app -- making it easier for customers to manage and redeem their earned points.

Aside from using their rewards points to claim vouchers, it also allows customers to take part in several activities and support any of its various community partners, including Philippine General Hospital Foundation (PGHF), Ayala Foundation, Rise Against Hunger, Save Philippine Seas, and more.

The New GlobeOne app is available for download on both Android’s Google Play and Apple’s App Store.

How 4G LTE saved tourism and online learning in Donsol, Sorsogon

Just like any coastal town in the county, most people in Donsol, Sorsogon rely on the sea for their livelihood. The sea gives them fish and the magnificent butandings or whale sharks to earn their keep. These gentle giants were responsible for giving Donsol monikers and accolades such as the Best Animal Interaction in Asia and Whale Shark Capital of the World.

But when the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged most countries in the world, Donsol also felt its impact not only on the safety of its residents but also on their major source of income.

With quarantine protocols, physical distancing and travel restrictions in effect for more than a year now, tourists who came by boatloads before became so few and eventually stopped coming to Donsol. The town’s tourism suffered.

Elmer Quizon, a tourist guide for whale watchers for the last 18 years, was among those who lost his main source of income.

“Talagang bagsak ang turismo dito, halos walang turistang pumupunta. Mabuti ang isang araw may lumabas na isang bangka. Biruin mo dati-rati 30 boats at a time, ngayon kadalasan no boat,” he said.

Quizon, however, found an alternative opportunity to help his family survive the economic difficulties brought upon by the pandemic: digital tourism. He found out that there is a large market for video footage and pictures of whale sharks. Clips of butandings gracefully swimming of Donsol waters are very popular to vloggers, editing houses and even ordinary people who can’t get enough of butanding materials.

There is just one problem though for Quizon.

“In demand talaga ngayon ang digital tourism kaya na-engganyo ako ngayon na bumili ng camera, taking videos and pictures of butanding. Ang problema lang ngayon, napakahina ng internet dito,” he explained.

Using an old 3G network, even teachers like Christopher Bakunawa found it hard to respond properly to his students.

“Kaya namin gawin lahat para sa mga estudyante para matuto sila. Kaya namin ituro lahat. Ready kami parati sa mga modules, sa lahat ng ituturo namin. Yun nga lang dahil sa kahinaan ng signal, hirap na hirap kaming ibigay yun sa kanila,” he lamented.

Things changed when Globe completed its upgrade of eight sites in Barangay Ogod, Poso Poblacion and Dancalan The upgrade ushered in a new standard in mobile data, 4G LTE in Donsol which improved internet speed in the town by at least 300% compared to April last year.

With the latest technology, Globe customers in Donsol now have access to high-speed internet, clearer calls and a stable mobile network. These things give so much hope to Quizon, Bakunawa and all residents of the town.

“Dati-rati ang signal dito 3G lang, ngayon 4G na. Kikita na ako ng maganda ngayon at the same time baka maging vlogger pa,” said Quizon.

In order to fully enjoy the benefits of the 4G LTE, Globe customers in Donsol were asked to replace their old 3G SIM cards with the 5G-ready 4G LTE SIMs and their mobile devices to 4G LTE capable ones.

The improved customer experiences in Donsol has prompted other parts of Sorsogon to call for more installations and network expansion.

In Casiguran town, Mayor Edwin Jamor says better connectivity and technology will enable his constituents to continue to earn and for young people to learn even if they are at home.

“Nabago ang buhay ng mga tao dahil sa teknolohiya. Bumilis ang takbo kaya lang may mga portion dito sa Sorsogon na hindi na kinaya o inabot ng mga teknolohiya na magagamit sana nila. Malaking bagay na lahat ng komunikasyon ay ma-improve,” he said.

Globe will do just that as the telco eyes to expand its network not only in Sorsogon but in the rest of the Bicol region this year. The company has completed site expansion in 23 locations all over the province this year alone.

“We are making the pivot to bring connectivity to where it is needed the most, to areas and locations where a strong, reliable, and accessible internet will make the difference between the survival or further hardships to our kababayans. These are our primary aspirations and we will deliver them. We must because we know how challenging the new normal is and we care,” said Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.

To enjoy these improved services, customers all over the country who are still using 3G SIM cards must change to the 5G-ready 4G LTE SIMs now. Globe assures customers who will switch to the new standard of mobile data that their numbers will remain unchanged when they do so. If quarantine protocols in their respective areas allow, customers can go to the nearest Globe Store to change their SIM cards for FREE.

For more information, please go to https://www.globe.com.ph/help/mobile-internet/lte/faqs.html. Customers are also encouraged to update their handsets to 4G LTE devices for better mobile data experience.

Customers who wish to upgrade their mobile devices can also check all Globe stores to see the affordable and available 5G-ready 4G/LTE capable mobile devices.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) particularly UN SDG No. 9 that highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.

Converge promotes a safer digital experience for children

Committed to promoting safer internet, Converge seeks to rid the Philippines of online child sexual exploitation

Converge Information and Communications Technology Solutions Inc. (PSE:CNVRG), the country’s fastest-growing high-speed fixed broadband provider, joins forces with millions around the globe to raise awareness for better and safer internet usage. With lockdown restrictions forcing the young and old alike to study and work remotely, extra precautionary measures must be extended to the online community.

A study released by the Washington-based International Justice Mission reveals that the Philippines is the global hotspot for online child sexual exploitation, worsened by lockdown restrictions. Increased risk of harm through the spread of false information or malicious content that is especially dangerous for children puts Converge in the position to protect the younger generation by promoting the responsible, respectful, critical, and creative use of digital technologies.

“People stuck at home during the pandemic continue to seek human connection through the online community. In light of Safer Internet Day, we would like to remind parents and guardians of children to take proactive steps in using the internet responsibly,” said Converge Founder and CEO Dennis Anthony H. Uy. “Converge will continue to implement safety and security measures such that explicit and malicious content will not continue to propagate online.”

Converge understands the urgency in creating a safe online environment for the younger generation such that the company has installed the required available technology, program, and software that is compliant with the National Telecommunications Commission guidelines. Providing a sense of security for its subscribers has pushed Converge to also provide quick access to online support while raising awareness through online channels with regard to safety measures that must be set in place by adults for their children.

The firewall system installed by Converge is able to examine the data that flows into the network then verifies if it is safe to pass through to the business. This technology prevents unauthorized access to or from a private network, preventing the circulation of explicit or malicious content. In addition, Converge has a Secure Domain Name Solution that blocks at the domain level those websites carrying child pornography material. The tools used by Converge for Firewall and DNS Solution are from the most reputed companies in the industry.

Converge’s online channels provide positive content that includes needed information in informing the public to remain vigilant against false information or malicious content. Young internet users are given access to high-quality online experiences if they are more exposed to positive online content such as materials that enable individuals to learn and develop their analytical and creative skills. These experiences not only assist and empower them to become active and participatory citizens but also allows for the strengthening and broadening of awareness with regard to safety through positive content. Quick access to online support is offered by Converge to all its subscribers so they may all stay connected in a secured manner. Any report of inappropriate or illegal content and behavior online is taken seriously and immediately acted upon.

“In delivering our promise to elevate the Filipino’s internet experience, security is our top priority as we seek to empower individuals to explore the digital experience with minimum risk,” said Converge Founder and CEO Dennis Anthony H. Uy. “Converge continues to invest in the right technology to ensure a better online environment for people of all age groups, but most especially for the younger generation. We believe that we are in the position to create an environment that encourages secured online services through self-regulation of content and services so that Filipinos may achieve success.”

Converge works closely with the National Telecommunications Commission in the fight to make the online environment a more secure place for all and encourages everyone to support the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Department of Social Welfare and Development with their Child Online Safeguarding Policy.

To report any case of online sexual exploitation of children by calling 1343 for Metro Manila and 02-1343 for outside Metro Manila. You can also report cases online at www.1343actionline.ph. To report child pornography sites, you may text DSWD <space> blockchildporn <space> URL address and send to 2327. You may also text blockchildporn <space> URL and send to 0918 912 2813.
