ABS-CBN acquires rights to produce local adaptation of South Korea's "Flower of Evil", stars with Piolo Pascual and Lovi Poe

Ultimate heartthrob Piolo Pascual and new Kapamilya star Lovi Poe will play husband and wife in the local adaptation of the hit Korean thriller romance drama series.

ABS-CBN Entertainment will produce the local adaptation of South Korean thriller drama "Flower of Evil” after acquiring the rights from content production companies CJ ENM Co., Ltd. and Studio Dragon Corporation to adapt the hit series for Filipino viewers.

The Philippine version will feature multi-awarded actors Piolo Pascual and Lovi Poe in the lead roles as husband and wife, who were originally played by Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won.

An irresistible mix of drama, romance, thrill, and action, “Flower of Evil” follows a man who changes his identity in order to hide his dark past, successfully maintaining his disguise by building a happy family with his police detective wife. But when she starts investigating an unsolved serial murder case that might be tied to him, she must deal with the reality that her perfect husband might not be who she thinks he is.

“Flower of Evil” enjoyed high ratings in South Korea when it premiered on tvN, CJ ENM's leading total entertainment channel, in 2020. The series continued to gain popularity in other countries for its nail-biting plot twists and remarkable performances after becoming available internationally through various streaming platforms.

The local adaptation of “Flower of Evil” will be Lovi’s first Kapamilya teleserye after signing with ABS-CBN this week, and Piolo’s first after 2018’s “Since I Found You.”

Watch out for Piolo and Lovi in the Philippine adaptation of “Flower of Evil,” which will be produced by Dreamscape Entertainment, soon on ABS-CBN platforms.

Piolo Pascual Takes the Road to Rediscovery in ‘Northern Lights: A Journey to Love'

Celebrated actor and producer Piolo Pascual embarks on a new film adventure as he stars and co-producers the latest heart-warming drama, “Northern Lights: A Journey to Love,” screening in key countries worldwide via TFC@theMovies.

Star Cinema and Regal Entertainment together with Pascual’s Spring Films bring you a story of a struggling overseas Filipino (Charlie Sr.) in Alaska who tries to be a father to his estranged child (played by child star Raikko Mateo (Charlie Jr.) from a former relationship.

In this journey, he meets Yen Santos (Angel), a woman who is also in search of herself after a broken heart and her mother also in the same land.

Even with the beauty of the country, coldness permeates the three characters with the loneliness they feel as Piolo Pascual tries to prove himself worthy of becoming a parent, Mateo yearns for the genuine love of a father and Santos tries to come to terms with Pascual’s offer of love and her own search for individuality.

Shot mostly in New Zealand and partly in Alaska, “Northern Lights” A Journey to Love” not only presents a soulful narrative of the three lost souls but also a beautiful display of the Northern Hemisphere via the breathtaking aurora borealis.

According to director Dondon Santos, the inspiration came from a trip to Alaska three years ago. “We conceptualized this story of a father who can’t connect with his child and we thought of Piolo. When we pitched it to him, he wanted it. Then we collaborated on how we can improve on the story.”

The story resonates well with Pascual because it hits home as he used to be an overseas Filipino himself. “This is the reality – Filipinos getting separated from their families. So I told myself, I wanted to do something real, something relatable with the audience. So when they pitched the script, something that speaks of reality, I leaned towards accepting the project.”

Meantime, Santos who considers herself lucky to be paired with Pascual in her first onscreen performance, says “I am thankful. I believe everything happens for a reason — why I was chosen.”

The heart-warming the story of Charlie Sr. Charlie Jr. and Angel as it screens via TFC@theMovies in the following countries and dates: Middle East (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain) on March 30; U.S. and Canada on March 31; UK April 1 and 2; Austria on April 1; Rome and Milan on April 2; Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea on April 6; Saipan on April 7; Hong Kong on April 16; Singapore on April 23; and coming soon in more countries.

"PINASmile: Masayang Muli ang Kwento ng Summer Natin"

The new  ABS-CBN station ID "aims to promote the Philippines as a unique travel destination that takes pride in the beauty of each region, the country's colorful culture and, of course, the stories behind the unique and infectious smiles of Pinoys.

The video showed Kapamilya stars and news personalities in various parts of the country, armed with a camera in seeking genuine smiles among residents there.

The production team believes that genuine smiles can never be scripted, so the team made the Summer Station ID's goal to bring out raw and authentic happiness from the simple Pinoys.

The Kapamilya stars and news personalities were tasked to be the smile seekers. They were asked to immortalize these blissful moments with their camera lenses as they immerse themselves with the locals of the different places they visited such as the Igorots of Baguio, Aetas of Mt. Pinatubo and Ivatans of Batanes.

The Summer Station ID team also made it a priority to visit the provinces that have been severely devastated by calamities last year, particularly Bohol, Samar, and Leyte. The positive stories and warm smiles from these hard hit provinces are testaments of how brave and happy the Filipino hearts could be despite the tragedies that our fellow countrymen went through.

Let's make our summer story worth smiling about again, and show the world that the Philippines is one happy place worth visiting and coming back to.

The 2014 ABS-CBN Summer Station ID was created by ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management headed by Robert Labayen, Johnny Delos Santos, Patrick de Leon and Ira Zabat. It is directed by Paolo Ramos, Peewee Azarcon-Gonzales.

"PINASmile: Masayang Muli ang Kwento ng Summer Natin," theme song of the station ID was performed by teen stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
