How P&G navigates the workplace landscape post-pandemic

Despite workforce challenges that affect employee retention in Philippine companies, P&G Philippines continues to safeguard employee satisfaction

Manila, PhilippinesWith the pandemic forcing  Filipinos to reevaluate not just how they view work, but their entire lives, workplace dissatisfaction led to the “Great Resignation,” – an economic trend where employees, in numbers larger than usual, resigned from work since the start of the pandemic. Various reasons for the resignations include inadequate compensation, overall job dissatisfaction, the lack of opportunities, and return-to-office policies.

According to Procter & Gamble (P&G) Philippines, the Great Place to Work®-certified multinational consumer goods company with a diverse range of superior health care, home care, beauty, and grooming products, employee satisfaction and retention are anchored on three factors: People Investment, Equality and Inclusion, and Purpose-Drive Workplace.

“For P&G, people are our most important asset. We always strive to innovate and have industry-leading policies, programs, and practices to keep our people empowered and motivated,” says Vince Dizon, Country Human Resource Leader of P&G Philippines.

People Investment

While pandemic restrictions have eased, its repercussions on the Philippine workforce have remained steady. In 2022, the Philippine employee resignation rate increased and part of this is due to a lack of growth opportunities within companies. According to GlassDoor.com, among the top ten reasons for resignations are unrealistic goals and expectations and lack of career path and progression.

P&G meets this challenge head-on. As one of the country’s top employers, P&G is known to invest in its talent and leadership development highly. The company stands apart with its ‘grow from within’ culture, meaningful careers leading billion-dollar global brands, international exposure and assignments, and hands-on mentorship from P&G leaders across the globe.

Equality and Inclusion

During the onset of the pandemic, P&G reframed its employee value proposition (EVP), the framework from which the company anchors its people policies, to “P&G + Me = Mutual Success.” This new framework focused on gratifying and empowering employees by keeping them inspired, valuing and rewarding good work, and continuously making a positive impact on the business and communities P&G serves.

It is from this framework that P&G Philippines developed its HR policies and programs that supported and allowed its employees to thrive and succeed amidst the changing workplace landscape.

In 2020, P&G launched one of its biggest and most groundbreaking policies called “Share the Care” which entitles fathers to 8 weeks of parental leave vs. the mandatory 7 days of paternity leave in the local Philippines context. The policy applies to all employees, regardless of gender, marital status, and biological or adoptive status.

P&G also launched Vibrant Living, a holistic wellness program that aims to emphasize the importance of mental, socio-emotional, and physical health. At a time when people were working hybrid WFH setups, P&G was able to cater to their needs both virtually and physically through online medical seminars, webinars on mental health, virtual workouts, and even online music classes for P&G kids.

As the workforce landscape keeps evolving, P&G continues to promote policies that foster and create inclusion and equal opportunities for all employees to thrive and succeed regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and background.

A Purpose-Driven Workplace

According to Talent Trends’ 2022 The Great X report, the Filipino workforce is shifting focus on finding quality workplaces that offer purposeful work.

“P&G is committed to being a Force for Growth and  a Force for Good in the communities where we live and work. Our employees share this commitment as we serve consumers with superior products and being available to them during times of greater need,” says Dizon.

P&G has been a consistent partner of various government agencies and non-government organizations like the Department of Health, Department of Education (DepEd), the Philippine Red Cross, and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to name a few. Over the COVID-19 pandemic, P&G has stepped up as a Force for Good and a Force for Growth by donating over PHP 200 Million to help aid in the government’s COVID-19 pandemic response efforts. This includes re-purposing its manufacturing plant to produce and donate over 3 million medical-grade face masks to DOH and front liners hospitals, donating P&G health and hygiene products, and building health and hygiene infrastructures for DepEd schools, LGUs, government hospitals, public areas, and transport terminals.

Recently, P&G donated over Php 650,000.00 worth of P&G home and personal care products to the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) to aid communities in need during PCUP’s first-ever PWD and Senior Assembly during Urban Poor Solidarity Week. In collaboration with the Manila Water Foundation, the company also donated over Php 1.8 million in P&G Vicks' newest product, ZzzQuil melatonin gummies, to over 4,000 Business Process Outsourcing workers to promote health through proper rest.

P&G Philippines’ winning workplace culture was recently affirmed by earning its Great Place to Work® Certification™ with a 94% employee satisfaction rating. The company also won “Top Employer of the Year” at the 2022 Asia CEO Awards, was recognized as “2022 Best Companies to Work for in Asia” by HR Asia, and was hailed as the Champion for the Gender Inclusive Workplace category in the 2021 UNWEP Awards.

P&G and Shopee Collaborate to Encourage Fair Division of Household Chores in Latest #ChallengeTheChores Campaign

Procter & Gamble partnered with the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, Shopee, to launch its latest campaign as part of this year’s International Women’s Day. Titled #ChallengeTheChores, this campaign responds to the global call for us to challenge gender stereotypes by fostering a sense of joint responsibility within the household and encouraging family members to team up and tackle household chores together.

The campaign will be progressively launched across five Southeast Asian markets, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam, featuring a series of challenges that aim to inspire families to take on household chores together, such as doing the laundry and attending to a child’s needs.

Since Covid-19, 75% of caregiving chores have fallen on women, with several extra responsibilities and commitments added to their already busy lives. To further illustrate the importance of addressing this need for shared responsibility, the campaign will feature a video of how household chores can be equally divided and tackled together.

Alexandra Vogler, P&G e-commerce Senior Director, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, said, “P&G is deeply committed to equality and inclusion. Through this campaign, we want to raise awareness of the imbalanced distribution of chores. Through an entertaining short film and an interactive, gamified experience, we hope to inspire people to #ChallengeTheChores and drive greater equality within households.”

Shopee also found that women are the most active shoppers on the platform in product categories such as household and other fast-moving consumer goods. As e-commerce becomes more prevalent, Shopee looks to leverage its platform to encourage meaningful conversations through a fun, personalized, and interactive experience for customers.

Martin Yu, Director at Shopee Philippines, said, “We are proud to partner with P&G, a world-leading FMCG brand, on this meaningful initiative. Besides encouraging families to take on equal responsibilities of household chores, we also seek to provide our users with a wide assortment of products to make everyday household chores convenient and manageable. We look forward to launching more of such engaging campaigns with P&G that would enrich the shopping experience for our users.”

During the campaign period, shoppers in each market can look forward to various activities and exclusive content that will inspire the whole family and help them rediscover the fun of tackling household chores together. These include live streams featuring Key Opinion Leaders on their challenges when tackling household chores and how they teamed up with their partners to overcome those challenges. It also includes exclusive in-app activities to snatch up special deals and win prizes and the classic Shopee Catch game to collect as many P&G products giveaway or vouchers as possible.

The #ChallengeTheChores Campaign will run from March 17 to March 19. For more information about the campaign and the best deals and promos, visit https://shopee.ph/m/pg-super-brand-day.

P&G continues to be a force for good for communities this Christmas

MANILA PHILIPPINES – Procter & Gamble Philippines (P&G) is bringing comforts of home to communities by donating hygiene kits and products to thousands of families affected by Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses. The leading health and hygiene products manufacturer partnered with the Philippine Red Cross, World Vision Philippines, and the local governments of Marikina, Cabuyao and Taguig to bring relief to communities for Christmas.

“P&G has always believed in becoming a force for good and growth for the country, and this is especially true during the holiday season and after what the Philippines and the world have been through. For P&G, our hygiene brands are our main contribution to sharing comforts and experience of home to Filipino families this Christmas,” says Raffy Fajardo, President and General Manager of P&G Philippines.

P&G and its partners donated products to communities in Albay, Catanduanes, Cagayan, Isabela, and the cities of Marikina, Cabuyao, and Taguig. Philippine Red Cross will distribute 4,000 hygiene packs for families in Cagayan and Isabela, while World Vision hygiene gift packs will reach over 3,000 families in Albay and Catanduanes.

On top of providing relief for affected communities, P&G continues to extend this care for its employees, the company’s number one priority, amid the difficult times. The company launched the Alagang P&G program, which aims to care for its workforce. On top of ensuring their health and safety with various benefits, P&G’s Vibrant Living wellness program was redesigned to champion the new work-from-home lifestyle in the better normal. The program introduced online classes and programs on fitness, mental health, and even spiritual recollections.

For frontliners, P&G repurposed its manufacturing operations in Cabuyao, Laguna to fulfill its pledge with the DOH and partner health institutions to produce one million medical-grade face masks, which has now been doubled to benefit more medical frontliners who continue to need PPEs. The Safeguarding the Front-liners program gave hygiene kits to over 15,000 frontliners and 5,000 PPE suits to COVID-19 hospitals in Metro Manila and Laguna at the beginning of ECQ in March.

P&G also collaborated with the Department of Health (DOH) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to launch a nationwide education campaign for better health habits called BIDA Solusyon sa COVID-19 which has also won P&G three special awards from PANAta Awards by the Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA).

“Even before the pandemic, P&G has always been guided by our core principles of caring for our employees as our number one priority, serving our consumers with our trusted and essential health and hygiene brands and stepping up for communities in need. This is something we have strongly committed to and we will continue to do in the coming new year as a force for good and a force for growth for the country,” says Raffy.

Feel at your most beautiful all day, every day with new Olay AquAction and new Pantene Aqua Pure

Inspired by the nourishing power of water, P&G launches its newest innovations in beauty care – Olay AquAction and Pantene Aqua Pure. “Aqua Beauty”, an event recently held at Sofitel Manila, took beauty to new depths and invited Filipinas to dive into radiance.

Summer or not, Filipinas find different ways to deal with the humidity because it affects the way they look and feel. We stay in air-conditioned rooms; we buy cool snacks throughout the day. But nothing beats that fresh feeling after a cool shower – Skin feels hydrated, hair is clean and light. At the beginning of a brand new day, just after a relaxing shower, it’s easy to feel at your most refreshed, your most beautiful.

Wouldn’t it be great if that feeling could last throughout the day?

Help make this happen with new Olay AquAction and Pantene Aqua Pure, which were revealed with amazing synchronized swimming performances.

Watsons Marketing Director Viki Encarnacion said, “We are excited to partner with P&G in the 6th Watsons Red Carpet event. But more than that, we are excited to share innovative products to Filipinas – products that deliver hydration and nourishment for healthy skin and hair.”

New Olay AquAction – Get firm and supple skin.

“Keeping my skin hydrated is a challenge. Throughout the day, it gets dry and loses its suppleness,” Olay ambassador Nikki Gil shared.
In fact, dry skin is caused by a combination of moisture loss due to the environment and skin fatigue. Skin is like a leaky bucket, constantly loses moisture to its surroundings. By just normal breathing and evaporation from skin, women can lose up to 2 glasses of water a day! In addition to the effects of the environment, P&G scientists discovered a second cause of moisture loss – skin fatigue. This is the loss of skin energy, which means the skin loses its ability to hold on to moisture, causing the “leaky bucket” to be even more leaky as a result.

To keep skin hydrated and bouncy in the long-term, skincare products need to address both causes of skin moisture loss.

New Olay AquAction with HydraLock technology hydrates to deliver firm, bouncy and supple skin. HydraLock technology is a combination of two powerhouse ingredients that quench the twin causes of skin dryness. P&G has discovered an ingredient that is capable of outperforming hyaluronic acid, an ingredient known to fill and seal skin’s leaky bucket and seen as the current gold standard in hydration care. Known as WSK, this ingredient was extracted from the white jelly leaf, renowned throughout ancient Chinese history and modern times for its beauty-enhancing properties.

Meanwhile, Niacinamide brings the skin energy level of aged cells back to more youthful levels, so that over time, it gives skin the energy to renew itself, and make components that enable skin to hold onto its own moisture more effectively. The result is 12-hour non-stop hydration and skin that feels hydrated and healthy.

New Pantene Aqua Pure – Hair with body, without the weight

Not to be outdone, Pantene also unveils a new standard in nourishment led by Pantene ambassador Denise Laurel.
Denise Laurel
Denice shares, “Working with Pantene has always been a dream for me and I love how Pantene is constantly producing new innovations for Filipinas.”

New Pantene Aqua Pure is formulated for the woman who has complained that her hair feels lifeless and weighed down. Pantene Aqua Pure is designed to nourish your hair without the weight for light, clean hair and “the perfect swish”, as demonstrated by Denise.

The new formulation has hair cleansing and nourishment. But the difference lies in the rinse. Clean Rinse technology in Aqua Pure shampoo rinses off quicker to remove traces of excess residue that weigh hair down. Traditional conditioners sometimes made Filipinas feel like their hair was heavy and limp.

Now, new Aqua Pure conditioner gives hair the nourishment from conditioner, while keeping hair beautifully light and virtually weightless. Hair that is light and has body is possible with new Pantene Aqua Pure!

Feel at your most beautiful all day, every day. Discover new depths of beauty with hydrated skin and light yet nourished hair.

Try new Olay AquAction and new Pantene Aqua Pure today.

Tough Love : Touching moment with Joy, a touch of Olay

A super fun activity I enjoyed last March 5 at the Blue Leaf- Silk Pavilion in Taguig, with a beautiful and true fun celebrity. The trials of housework are highlighted and refreshed through Tough Love, an event that placed Mariel Rodriguez and members of the media in “tough” household situations, but with the aid of Joy with a Touch of Olay, a new dishwashing variant of P&G Joy.
Mariel and members of the media undergo four different household challenges, including chopping vegetables, squeezing lemons, opening bottles and cans through manual tools, and dishwashing.

Chopping Vegetables

Squeezing lemons

Opening bottles and cans

Dishwashing

All of these challenges simulated the experiences women feel whenever they do household chores.

These stations were also time-pressured to mirror the multi-tasking lives of modern women every day.

Joy with a Touch of Olay helps maintain skin’s moisture, making it all set for “touching moments” as we really feel we wave the softest hands even with the toughest jobs at home - dishwashing, ironing, doing the laundry and cleaning the house. Imagine doing all these things every single day, on top of your demanding career.

This is really - tough love. As we celebrate women’s month, lives and experiences of women are given more importance and thought. This includes the challenges of women everywhere when it comes to doing household chores.

Dishwashing can be a draining task. Just imagine coming home from a tiring day at work, seeing piles of plates on the sink, and getting your hands wrinkled and dry from cleaning the dishes. Joy with a Touch of Olay is especially formulated to help maintain the skin’s moisture while retaining the superior grease-fighting power of all Joy variants. It locks in moisture to create moments of pampering as one does chores.

“Joy with Olay strives to take care of women. It is formulated with Vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps repair the skin and nourishes the hands by locking in the skin’s moisture. Joy with Olay does not dry the hands, making them “touching moment” ready,” says P&G Brand Communications Leader Anna Legarda.

Every dedicated and hardworking woman will appreciate even the littlest things that will comfort and pamper her. It helps even more to have a product that will indulge her even while she performs household chores daily.

Feel the difference that Joy with a Touch of Olay makes in your dishwashing routine.

As seen in Tough Love, housework will never be the same again because of Joy with a Touch of Olay. Women can do all the tough jobs, but still be “touching-moment ready”.

Enjoy washing everyone ! This is tough love!
