The Fab and Fierce Way to Go and Love Life!

Love makes the world go round... love makes the people happy... love makes the world beautiful...love makes life colorful... Love is love... Love is Life ... Loving life to the fullest!

What takes most of your time? For most women, the answer will only revolve around family and work. As we all know, it is natural for women to focus on taking care of others.  But as they concentrate on the people they love, they tend to lose focus on their own lives. Some women even end up neglecting their own health and looks.

Merck Philippines launched Sangobion Go Love Life - a campaign that aims to revive a modern woman’s love for life. Last March, Sangobion kicked off the campaign by reminding women of the importance of taking care of oneself and by showing them all the great things that can happen just by changing one’s lifestyle habits.

Through social networking sites, Sangobion challenged women to join the Sangobion 15-day challenge and commit to change for the better. To further promote the challenge, Sangobion launched an online promo that tasked women to submit their pledges to change and to take Sangobion everyday.

Last August 16, Sangobion treated forty lucky ladies to a beauty blowout by expert stylists courtesy of Shu Uemura and Blo Blow Dry Bar. Now, another set of forty lucky ladies were given a fabulous treat! Last October 18, the winners went on a shopping spree and had their own little fashion show at Shine Bakery & CafĂ©. Each one was given a chance to shop for her own outfit and to strut like a model. These promo winners proved that Sangobion can truly help empower women to go on and live a better life!

It was one fun, fab, and fierce afternoon that inspired women to push the Go Love Life challenge, to make Sangobion part of their daily habits, and to continue living a healthy lifestyle. More than all the glitz and glam, it was also an educational afternoon as Merck Head of Marketing for Consumer Healthcare Debbie Go and Sangobion brand manager Jio Igual gave tips on how women can look, feel, and be at their best despite their crazy schedules and responsibilities. They also highlighted how Sangobion can help women achieve their ‘better self.’

Taking Sangobion everyday can help boost your iron, so you can look and perform at your best. It has Ferrous Gluconate, an organic iron that helps fight the different signs of iron deficiency such as paleness, fatigue, dizziness, and lack of focus and concentration. This ingredient also puts Sangobion above other iron supplements as it allows better body absorption and has less gastrointestinal side effects. Each capsule is chocolate-scented and leaves no metallic after-taste.

And more than iron, Sangobion also contains essential vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C, Folic acid, Vitamin B12, Copper, and Manganese sulfate to build healthy red blood cells and immune system. It also has sorbitol that is an anti-constipating agent that helps manage the side effects of iron supplements! This is definitely the supplement a woman needs to focus on loving life and conquering her day-to-day challenges.

Merck Head of Marketing for Consumer Healthcare Debbie Go
There are 24 hours a day, so make sure you spare at least an hour or even just a couple of minutes for ‘me-time.' And even if the spotlight may always be on your family or career, it is not an excuse to lose focus on yourself and to stop you from living the life you love.

Keep on visiting the Sangobion Facebook page for updates.

Nelson Mandela International Day

Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize winner
(Photo: AFP/Getty Images)
Today we celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day, a global movement to honour the great man’s public service and diplomacy, a day of service celebrated on July 18, Mandela's birthday.

During his long life, Mandela inspired countless individuals. In 2009, the United Nations declared July 18th, his birthday, Nelson Mandela International Day. The day was unanimously approved in 2009 by the U.N. General Assembly. It was created to honor Mandela and inspire others to carry on his efforts to "take responsibility for making the world a better place, one small step at a time," according to a statement from the Nelson Mandela Foundation Initiative.

An Interactive Google Doodle pays tribute to Mandela who has been called both '"The World's Most Famous Political Prisoner" and "South Africa's Great Black Hope"

No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion.

People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.

What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.

Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.

For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and
enhances the freedom of others.

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall.

During his time in prison, Mandela was restricted to a 2m x 2.5m cell, with nothing but a bedroll on the floor and a bucket for sanitation in it. He was consigned to hard labour and was, at first, only allowed one visitor and one letter every six months.

Nelson Mandela received honorary degrees from more than 50 international universities.

Mandela, the former president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Price recipient, died at the age of 95 on Dec. 5, 2013. This is the first time the day has been celebrated since his death.

Let us honour his memory by doing our part in making a positive change and to work towards making this world a better place.

Happy #MandelaDay

Magsaysay Awardees Hande, Mishra collaborate to electrify rural India

Two Indians, Harish Hande and Nileema Mishra, both 2011 Ramon Magsaysay awardees, are connecting their respective solutions to bring affordable solar energy to rural villages in India.

“Today at least 1.6 billion people lack access to reliable energy services. But to reach them in a sustainable manner, diverse delivery models have to be developed, as there is not going to be a one-size-fits-all solution,” said Hande in an article for The Climate Group.

This year, Hande’s SELCO India and Mishra’s Bhagini Nivedita Gramin Vigyan Niketan (BNGVN), as well as the Small-Scale Sustainable Infrastructure Development Fund (S3IDF) are partnering to provide solar home-lighting systems in 700 households.

They will bring their transformative solutions for sustainable energy to some of rural India’s off-the-electricity-grid villages under The Climate Group’s Bijli-Clean Energy Program. The program aims to bring marginalized communities onto the energy access map and to create a program that is environmentally and financially sustainable.

SELCO India’s partnership with S3IDF and BNGVN “will establish a long-term revolving fund that creates a channel of end user financing, to help establish an entire ecosystem of technology and financial support to the rural customer which can be highly replicable,” according to a write-up in theclimategroup.org. It will provide decentralized clean energy in Maharashtra, India’s Nandurbar district, in whose outskirts households typically use kerosene lanterns to light their homes because they are not connected to the national electric grid. These inefficient kerosene lamps are environmentally hazardous and expensive, and they can pose significant health issues to the rural villagers.

Both Mishra and Hande became recipients of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for their work of empowering people from rural areas. Mishra’s BNGVN enabled villagers with the capacity to provide means to livelihood and have a self-sustaining ecosystem, while Hande’s SELCO India enhanced the quality of life of underserved households and livelihoods through affordable, sustainable energy solutions.

Introducing Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2014

Trend Micro Advises Users: “Strengthen Social Network Privacy Settings in the Post Now, Think Later Era”
In the modern technological world, the privacy of millions of people is threatened. Companies are hired to watch what internet sites people visit, and then use the information. Those concerned about Internet privacy often cite a number of privacy risks,  events that can compromise privacy which may be encountered through Internet use.

In an age where more and more people post various details of their personal lives online, Trend Micro warns, “everything we do online leaves behind a digital footprint that can lead cyber criminals back.”

In a recent survey commissioned by Trend Micro, the company found out that almost 70% of the survey respondents are very active on social networking sites, accessing social networks at least once a day. These respondents post profile updates every day citing entertainment, current activities and shopping deals as their most shared information on Twitter and Google+. Almost 24% of these respondents actually traded personal information in exchange for discounts, coupons and to have more friends on their profiles and 37% would also give personal information to be able to join lucky draws online.

“Filipinos are highly switched on. However, they should be mindful about strengthening social network privacy settings. Trend Micro urges Filipinos not to be complacent online. Personal information is valuable to cyber criminals, for their own gain, create false identities for criminal use or even leverage your network to target your friends and family,” said Terrence Tang, Senior Director of Consumer Business, APAC Center Sales and Marketing, Trend Micro.

Privacy Scanner identifies privacy loopholes in social network profiles.

One of the most important features to be improved in the Trend Micro Titanium 2014 is the Privacy Scanner. Equipped with Web-threat protection that identifies and blocks dangerous links in websites, social networks, emails and instant messaging, Trend Micro Titanium 2014 can detect spam emails containing phishing scams that can trick users into revealing private personal information.

Trend Micro’s robust Privacy Scanner now dramatically simplifies privacy settings on Twitter, Google+, and Facebook – for both Mac and PC.
Facebook settings can also now be managed on-the-go via an Android app. It also gives users control over which apps can access biographical data, and who can tag and see photos.

In this ‘post first, think later’ era on social networks, the Privacy Scanner helps ensure that consumers share information only among those they know.
According to the August 2013 AV Comparatives report, Trend Micro Titanium offers the broadest combination of privacy and Web threat protections for Facebook, Google+, and Twitter across PCs and Macs among 31 security products reviewed (Social Network Protection Review, August 2013, AV Comparatives).

Vulnerability Quotient: How vulnerable are you online?

Trend Micro urges for consumers to seek discretion when posting on social networks and diligence in maintaining strong passwords, as ways to safeguard their personal lives.
Trend Micro has launched the Trend Micro Vulnerability Quotient, available at http://bit.ly/TMPHpress -  an app on Facebook that helps consumers determine how vulnerable they are online. Through a series of questions measuring consumers’ behavior on social networks and password management, amongst other security issues, a consumer finds out what their Vulnerability Quotient is and just how vulnerable they are to falling victim to cyber threats. An added function allows them to track how they fare among the rest of the population.

Additional features of Trend MicroTM TitaniumbTM Maximum Security 2014

“Trend Micro encourages the building of safer digital social cultures, and aims to enable everyone to protect their digital lives,” said Andrew Tan, Product Marketing Manager (Consumer), Southeast Asia, Trend Micro. “More than just ensuring safe surfing habits, solutions like Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security offer consumers all-in-one, all-rounded protection against identity thefts, virus and other online threats automatically, so consumers can enjoy their online experiences safely, with a peace of mind.”

Trend Micro Titanium is the flagship all-in-one security solution that utilizes state-of-the-art cloud-based technology to proactively stop threats before they reach users. Trend Micro Titanium features:

• First-of-its-kind technology for social networking security – the Privacy Scanner for Windows now NEWLY EXTENDED to include Google+ and Twitter in addition to Facebook, monitors privacy settings and flags potential privacy concerns.

Google Doodle Celebrates Nicolaus Copernicus Heliocentrism

I enjoyed looking at this google doodle. Today’s animated Google Doodle celebrates Nicolaus Copernicus 540th birthday.

Polish Astronomer Copernicus, a Catholic cleric, artist, physician, economist, a true Renaissance Man, served as a mathematician, astronomer,  and is said to have spoken at least four languages.
Copernicus is credited with forming the comprehensive mathematical heliocentric model and his book De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres) is considered one of the most important works in the history of science.

Copernicus was born on February 19th, 1473 and died in 1543 at the age of 70.

Inspirational Story from Nick Vujicic

"I realized that I may not have hands to hold my wife's hand but when the time comes, I'll be able to hold her heart." - Nick Vujicic

Nick uses his unique story to spread hope and inspire people all around the world.

Nick Vujicic, who was born without limbs, married Kanae Miyahara on February 12 in a romantic ceremony in California, and now the happy couple is enjoying their honeymoon in Hawaii, Nollywoodgossip has learned.

Just like any other newlyweds, they are spending their romantic vacation relaxing on the beach, taking holiday photos and enjoying sunset cocktails – the only thing that makes them different is that Nick has no arms or legs, but that’s never stopped him from fulfilling any of this life dreams so it certainly wasn’t going to prevent him from making a trip down the aisle.

Born in 1982 in Brisbane, Australia, there was no medical explanation or warning to suggest that Nick was going to be different from any other baby until his birth. Parents Pastor Boris and Dushka Vujicic were determined that his disability wouldn’t prevent their son from leading a normal life, or even skateboarding like other kids!

After a tough time in school being bullied for being different, Nick went to college and got a double Bachelor’s degree, majoring in Accounting and Financial Planning from Griffith University in Logan, Australia.

Instead of wallowing in his misfortunate, Nick was determined to make the most of the cards God dealt him and help others. “I found the purpose of my existence, and also the purpose of my circumstance. There’s a purpose for why you’re in the fire,” he wrote on his website for his non-profit organization, LifeWithoutLimbs.org.

Vujicic has since made a name for himself traveling around the world as a motivational speaker, and finally made the big move from Australia to California in 2007, where he popped the question to Kanae last August.

Brewing Craziness: Tado at MIBF

Something is brewing at the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF), the country’s longest-running and biggest book fair.  This year, though, the brew turns a little, well, strange as comedian, actor, radio personality and businessman Tado Jimenez joins the fair as one of MIBF’s featured Bookworms.

Arvin “Tado” Jimenez graduated from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines with a degree in Psychology.  Whilst in the university, he was inspired by his artist-friends to study film at the Mowelfund Institute.

Tado is one of the hosts of reality situational comedy show “Strangebrew” with Angel Rivero which saw the tandem play offbeat characters as they interviewed well-known personalities and ordinary people on the job. The show aired in UNTV Channel 37 and Studio 23. His notable catchphrase on the show was “Rakenrol!”

After Strangebrew wrapped up, he reunited with Rivero and contributor Ramon Bautista for his late night talk show on Hit FM 99.5, “BrewRATS”. The program has since moved to internet radio station DigRadio every Thursday from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Tado also owns a t-shirt line called Limitado which feature striking messages and spoofs printed on the items. He runs this business with his wife.

He is also a published author. His first book “Mga Kasinungalingang Pwedeng Sabihin sa Mga Mangmang” features Tado’s thoughts and anecdotes about life and other hilarious stories. He has followed this up with “Nag-iisa Lang Ako”.
As one of MIBF’s Bookworms, Tado, as well as cartoonist Stanley Chi, renowned tour guide Carlos Celdran, and Youtube celebrity Ramon Bautista will be making a series of online videos for the event aiming to entice people from all walks of life.  There truly is something for everyone at the Manila International Book Fair.

MIBF runs from Sept. 14-18 at the SMX Convention Center, Seashell Drive, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. MIBF is organized by Primetrade Asia, Inc. in partnership with Asian Catholic Communicators, Inc., Book Development Association of the Philippines, Philippine Booksellers Association, Inc., and Publishers Representatives Organization of the Philippines. For details, call 896-0661 or 896-0682, or e-mail bookfair@primetradeasia.com.

Carlos Celdran defies norms at MIBF

Who is Charles P. Celdran? Few may know him by the name Charles but for those who've taken his tours and watched his performance arts, he is more well-known by the name Carlos Celdran, probably the country’s best tour guide.

When he was 14 years-old, Carlos began making cartoons for the now defunct newspaper Business Day. After a year of studying Visual Communications at UP-Diliman, Carlos transferred to the Rhode Island School of Design, majored in Painting, but later discovered his allergic reactions to paint. So he shifted to Performance Art instead. He went on to win the Yvonne Force art award and graduated with honors in 1996.

Carlos founded and co-founded many organizations including Walang Pamagat Performance Art Company where he served as artistic director. Walang Pamagat has already performed in Rhode Island School of Design, the CCP, the Bronx Museum of Art, AS220, and in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico.

He also founded a company that provides walking tours of Manila called Walk this Way. In his tours,  Carlos is the director, producer and actor where he stages an elaborate theatrical performance while he brings his tourists around Manila.

His Intramuros tours called If These Walls Could Talk provide a half-day walking tour of the Walled City in Manila, with Carlos in full Spanish illustrado regalia. The Living la Vida Imelda, on the other hand, provides an interesting glimpse into Imelda Marcos’ life through her long-standing legacy, the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Being a cultural activist, Carlos Celdran is often asked by media men of the local and international scene to comment on things regarding Philippine society and culture. He was quoted in magazines such as Time Magazine, Forbes, and The Huffington Post. In 2010 he was included in the list of “Names You Need to Know in 2011” by Forbes Magazine. He was also featured on the British culinary show, Planet Food for an episode featuring the unique cuisine of Manila.

This year, Carlos Celdran is among the four Bookworms chosen by the 33rd Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) along with stand-up comedian and cartoonist Stanley Chi (Mr. Suplado); comedian, director and actor Ramon Bautista; and comedian, actor, radio personality Tado Jimenez.

MIBF is organized by Primetrade Asia, Inc. in partnership with the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP), Asian Catholic Communicators, Inc. (ACCI), Overseas Publishers Representatives Association of the Philippines (OPRAP), and Philippine Booksellers Association, Inc. (PBAI). For details, call 896-0661 or 896-0682, or e-mail bookfair@primetradeasia.com

Ramon Bautista is MIBF Bookworm!

Ramon Bautista, renowned TV host, brand endorser , comedian, online celebrity and a book author lends his magnanimous personality to the already exciting event as he joins MIBF's Bookworm ! Fun and learning are what’s cooking at the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF), the country’s longest-running and biggest book fair, as it heads back to SMX Convention Center on Sept. 12-16.
Ramon met video director RA Rivera in college at the University of Philippines in Diliman. It is through this friendship that he got his first claim to fame when the latter uploaded on Youtube Ramon’s video called “Dan Michael: Master Magician”, a spoof on American illusionist David Blaine. This gained quite a following.

From then on, Ramon continued to make viral videos, the most recent of which is “Tales from the Friend Zone” which has reached around 165,000 since being uploaded in May.

Elsewhere on the web, Ramon is still king with his 270,000 followers on Twitter and about 250,000 fans in different Facebook pages.

Last year, his Formspring account also received the most number of “smiles”, the website’s equivalent to Facebook’s “likes”, at 142,000.

Onscreen, Ramon is known as the host of “May Tamang Balita”, a satirical news show on GMA News TV. He also had his own MTV mini-show called “The Ramon Bautista Show”. He has graced the big screen in films such as “MNL 143”, “Qwerty”, and “Rakenrol”. However, his talents also shine behind the scenes. He is a writer and co-producer of the horror film “San Lazaro”.

Giving back to the institution that gave him a headstart in his film and media career, Ramon has been  a lecturer at the University of the Philippines Film Institute since 2002 while pursuing his Master of Arts in Film.
As one of MIBF’s Bookworms, Ramon, as well as cartoonist Stanley Chi, renowned tour guide Carlos Celdran, and former DJ Tado Jimenez, will be making a series of online videos for the event aiming to entice people from all walks of life.  There truly is something for everyone at the Manila International Book Fair.

Meet Stanley Chi, he's friendly not suplado, for MIBF !

Meet Stanley Chi aka Mr. Suplado!
Meet Stanley Chi aka Mr. Suplado, the not-so Philippine equivalent of How I Met Your Mother’s Barney Stinson.

Stanley is an observational comedian, artist and graphics master. He is co-host of TV5’s Front Act, creator of Manila Bulletin-based comic strip “Chopsticks,” the author of best-selling book “Suplado Tips 1 & 2.”

A graduate of Fine Arts major in Advertising, Stanley was an art director for the country’s biggest names in advertising but in 2003, decided to pursue his passion for illustrating comic strips.

Many of Stanley’s followers however came from his conception of Suplado Tips. What was considered as a random and impromptu post on Facebook turned out to be so successful that it was considered as his first ever suplado tip.
He offered more suplado tips and it wasn’t long before people caught on and his FB posts became viral. When Suplado Tips was released, his book gained a cult following.
Stanley Chi and Tado Jimenez
Suplado Tips spawned the creation of the Suplado Society of the Philippines (SSP) complete with its own suplado oath. “Suplado is the new sexy” is the tagline seen on all SSP logos.
This year, Stanley Chi is among the four Bookworms chosen by the 33rd Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) along with tour guide, performance artist and cultural activist Carlos Celdran; comedian, director and actor Ramon Bautista; and comedian, actor, and radio personality Tado Jimenez. MIBF gathered these unique personalities together in hopes of gathering even more people from all walks of life to attend the book fair happening on September 12-16 at the SMX Convention Center.
(PBAI). For details, call 896-0661 or 896-0682, or e-mail bookfair@primetradeasia.com.
