‘Replacing Chef Chico’: First Filipino-Produced Series Puts Love on the Menu

For Filipinos, romance and food make a sizzling combination, and the first local Netflix production in a series format serves up a zesty love triangle set against the backdrop of a high-end fine dining restaurant.

Replacing Chef Chico is the brainchild of director Dan Villegas, assistant director Joi Bayan, and showrunner Antoinette Jadaone. It stars three of the biggest names in the local entertainment industry — Piolo Pascual (My Amanda), Alessandra de Rossi (My Amanda and What If) and Sam Milby (A Family Affair).

Offering a glimpse into the high-stakes and competitive culinary world, the series’ trailer introduces viewers to the main characters whose lives become intertwined at Hain, a fictional up-and-coming fine dining restaurant that specializes in customizing each dish to mirror their diners’ unique life stories. But things take an unexpected turn when titular character Chef Chico (Milby) gets into an accident, leaving him in a coma. The fate of Hain is suddenly left in the hands of his sous chef Chef Ella (de Rossi) and a newly hired consultant Raymond (Pascual), who has more than just the restaurant on his mind.

Speaking to a panel of press and outlets in the “See What’s Next” event on September 18, acclaimed showrunner Antoinette Jadaone (Fan Girl and That Thing Called Tadhana) shared that her inspiration for Replacing Chef Chico came from her love for food-related shows.

Recommending the series for holiday viewing, she added: “I think it’s perfect for the Christmas season because, at its core, it’s about love, friendship, and acceptance. Each episode tells a story of family, friendship, and love, all celebrated over food.”

Both Jadone and Villegas (Exes Baggage and Always Be My Maybe) also expressed their excitement over the evolving media landscape and what it means for the future of streaming and media consumption in the Philippines. Replacing Chef Chico was produced for Netflix in association with CS Studios and Project8.

Catch Replacing Chef Chico on November 24, only on Netflix.

Makes the World your Dining Room with Pinoy Innovation Hotbox Philippines

Hotbox is the first self-heating, portable food box that allows you to enjoy a hot meal anytime, anywhere!

Pull the string to heat. That’s the concept of Filipino innovation Hotbox Philippines which promises diners that their food will always be fresh and hot when it is time to eat.

Food deliveries always strive to bring orders piping hot, but by the time the order is brought to the customer’s doorstep, the temperature may have become tepid, which affects the texture and the flavors. Food plays a big part in the way Filipinos bond. Having unappetizing meals not only for take-out and deliveries but also for meetings, parties, and outdoor activities take away the enjoyment of savouring that moment. Hotbox Philippines seeks to change the way Pinoys enjoy packaged meals with technology that heats up your food right at the time that you are ready to dig in, anytime and anywhere.

Hotbox Philippines partners, Fil-American TV commercial producer Romeo Joven with actors Piolo Pascual and Eric Quizon say that with their innovation, the world can be your dining room. This concept is perfect for hot meals at home when you are too busy to cook, a perfectly packed lunch for when you have that one more meeting to attend, or road trips with family and friends so you can have a hot and appetizing meal by the beach or at the hiking grounds.

“At home or in the office, we may use a microwave oven, to reheat our packed food, but the heat dries up your dish and makes it less appetizing as well as the food getting cold fast. With Hotbox’s steam technology, your food is hot within 5 minutes. There is also no rush to eat as your food continues to heat up to 30 minutes at over 80 degrees Celsius. Because of our technology, the food retains its original quality and texture. Our clients love the product because their food tastes like it is fresh from the stovetop or oven,” says Hotbox CEO Romeo Joven.

“With Hotbox, you no longer have to deal with meals that have gone cold. All you need to do is Pull, Heat, and Eat,” says Piolo. “With Hotbox, I know that even when I am busy with my tapings on location, I will be able to have hot meals to power me through my next scenes.”
The self-heating boxes are also more earth-friendly because there is less plastic waste and there is no need to use electricity for a microwave. This makes it a perfect on-the-go package for your meals.

Hotbox Philippines offers several Filipino and International cuisine choices in its online menu, and they can also accept orders for customized boxes to be delivered for meetings or special occasions.

Piolo Pascual Takes the Road to Rediscovery in ‘Northern Lights: A Journey to Love'

Celebrated actor and producer Piolo Pascual embarks on a new film adventure as he stars and co-producers the latest heart-warming drama, “Northern Lights: A Journey to Love,” screening in key countries worldwide via TFC@theMovies.

Star Cinema and Regal Entertainment together with Pascual’s Spring Films bring you a story of a struggling overseas Filipino (Charlie Sr.) in Alaska who tries to be a father to his estranged child (played by child star Raikko Mateo (Charlie Jr.) from a former relationship.

In this journey, he meets Yen Santos (Angel), a woman who is also in search of herself after a broken heart and her mother also in the same land.

Even with the beauty of the country, coldness permeates the three characters with the loneliness they feel as Piolo Pascual tries to prove himself worthy of becoming a parent, Mateo yearns for the genuine love of a father and Santos tries to come to terms with Pascual’s offer of love and her own search for individuality.

Shot mostly in New Zealand and partly in Alaska, “Northern Lights” A Journey to Love” not only presents a soulful narrative of the three lost souls but also a beautiful display of the Northern Hemisphere via the breathtaking aurora borealis.

According to director Dondon Santos, the inspiration came from a trip to Alaska three years ago. “We conceptualized this story of a father who can’t connect with his child and we thought of Piolo. When we pitched it to him, he wanted it. Then we collaborated on how we can improve on the story.”

The story resonates well with Pascual because it hits home as he used to be an overseas Filipino himself. “This is the reality – Filipinos getting separated from their families. So I told myself, I wanted to do something real, something relatable with the audience. So when they pitched the script, something that speaks of reality, I leaned towards accepting the project.”

Meantime, Santos who considers herself lucky to be paired with Pascual in her first onscreen performance, says “I am thankful. I believe everything happens for a reason — why I was chosen.”

The heart-warming the story of Charlie Sr. Charlie Jr. and Angel as it screens via TFC@theMovies in the following countries and dates: Middle East (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain) on March 30; U.S. and Canada on March 31; UK April 1 and 2; Austria on April 1; Rome and Milan on April 2; Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea on April 6; Saipan on April 7; Hong Kong on April 16; Singapore on April 23; and coming soon in more countries.

The Utimate Heartthrob Piolo Pascual All Set For An Exciting 2017

The entertainment's dubbed as the ultimate heartthrob, Piolo Jose Pascual or popularly known as Piolo or Papa Pi or PJ, celebrates his 40th birthday on January 12, 2017.

Just as many stars’ luster are starting to wane at this point in their lives, Piolo’s career is going full throttle as characterized by his different and far challenging projects.

Although he hopes to slow down a bit in order to appreciate life even more, Piolo, who’s turning a year older this coming January 12, couldn’t help but be excited about the dream projects that he’s hoping to cross off his bucketlist.
“I want to travel the region, just in case there’s a chance for me to showcase Filipino talents not just here but also abroad,” he said.
According to Piolo, he wants to tap the international market, not necessarily Hollywood, but other markets such as lifestyle.

Mid last year, Piolo embarked on his first lifestyle food show titled “The Crawl” together with actorLui Villaruz. The first season had them eating their way around Osaka, Japan. Its success led to an immediate follow up season, which Piolo undertook with his son Iñigo in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
“I get excited doing things that I’ve not done before. Basically delving into things I never thought I could do,” he said adding that he also hopes to do a different kind of serye soon.
Aside from hopefully fulfilling his dream projects, fans can expect to see him in the big screen soon with “Once in a Lifetime” opposite Yen Santos where they shot portions of it in New Zealand.

Almost three years since he last came out with his studio album “Decades III,” the singing heartthrob recently launched his Piolo Greatest Themes Album.

Amid all the upcoming projects and his goal, Piolo just couldn’t help but be grateful with the trust that he received and is still continuously receiving from the network for the last 20 years of being in the business.
“I can never be more thankful. I’m just really happy that they didn’t just change my life, they’ve changed my whole track, my entire journey in life and I’m just really humbled by it,” he said.
Despite being one of the most celebrated actors in the business, Piolo intends to stay as low-key as possible, which happens to be a far cry to his known tag as the “number one leading man” and “ultimate heartthrob.”
“It’s not for me to say. Being in this business for a long time it’s a blessing already. To be on top, I mean that’s a sense of entitlement. I’ll never hold on to something that is fleeting. As long as I know I’m enjoying my life and I’m able to do things that I enjoy doing, that’s okay by me,” he ended.

Get to see a different side of the Ultimate Heartthrob and his enviable bachelor’s pad as the January 2017 cover star of Star Studio magazine.
