Power Mac Center celebrates 26th anniversary with bicycle donation drive

As part of its 26th-anniversary celebration, Power Mac Center is launching its “Pay it Forward” campaign to help provide bicycles to those who commute even in the middle of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Partnering with TV personality Gretchen Ho’s Woman In Action advocacy project, the campaign will acquire bikes and other protective equipment using the proceeds taken from purchases of participating products.

“We at Power Mac Center are one with those affected with the current health crisis. We applaud and support those who still find the courage to go to work to support their families despite the dangers of outside travel and the limited commuting options under quarantine. As a way to show them our appreciation and support, we would like to do the little we can to make their daily commutes a lot easier and healthier. Through Gretchen Ho’s Woman In Action project, we are able to create a venue for our partner brands and customers to help in the donation of bicycles so they can use it as their main mode of transportation,” said Joey Alvarez, Power Mac Center Director of Product Management, Marketing and Space Planning.

Founded as a way to mark Gretchen’s 30th birthday last April, Woman In Action advocates for positive change in the community by sharing stories gathered from Filipinas across the country, including advocacy projects spearheaded by Gretchen and others. The phrase itself is Gretchen’s motto and vision, as it encapsulates everything about her, ranging from her active lifestyle to her commitment to engaging with the world to learn and make a difference.

Last August 13, Gretchen posted on her official Instagram page (@gretchenho) that she was looking for 50 deserving beneficiaries to apply for 50 bicycles. She later stated in an update that she had to stop the search as the number of applicants reached over 10,000. This was a far cry from the originally intended number and only signifies the need to get more bikes. Fortunately, with the aid of PMC, Gretchen believes that more Filipino commuters will get their hands on bicycles.

“I’m very happy that I get to work with a company like Power Mac Center in this critical project. Their nationwide reach, plus bolstered with the recent increase in consumer demand for technological devices to meet work-from-home and online school demands, are sure to help me and Woman In Action purchase more bicycles for the commuting public who still can’t ride the main modes of transportation because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Gretchen.

The Pay it Forward campaign will run until August 31, 2020. Included in the list of participating PMC products are select Apple devices and Beats models. Products from PMC partners 59S, Adam Elements, Before Anything Else, Belkin, Bondir, Laut, Microsoft, Panzer Glass, Rivacase, SanDisk, Sonix, Sudio, Tech21, and UV Care are also eligible.

Grade school students, the big winner in Power Mac Center app contest: Game app tackles the global Quality Education goal

A game app that will help toddlers and grade school students build their passion for learning bagged the grand prize in Power Mac Center’s recently concluded “emPOWER UP! Design a Better World: App Development Challenge” for kids. The winning app concept aims to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of Quality Education by integrating valuable lessons during gameplay.

Grade School students from De La Salle Santiago Zobel and Team BrainVentures members Derek Joshua Altuna, Aniela Jenina Lesaca, and Alexandria Jillian Braga bag the grand prize in Power Mac Center’s recently concluded “emPOWER UP! Design a Better World: App Development Challenge” for kids. They are bringing home brand new iPad units and the opportunity to have their app developed and uploaded to the App Store.

According to the UN, more than 265 million children are currently out of school, 22 percent of which are of primary school age. Moreover, 617 million youth all over the world lack basic mathematics and literacy skills. By integrating lessons into something ubiquitous like smart devices, providing quality education doesn’t stop at traditional venues like classrooms thereby reaching more learners, even in far-flung areas. Games, in particular, help keep children’s minds active and their imagination going.

The app titled BrainVentures puts the player through a series of activities with the help of a digital sidekick. These activities let players explore and develop their skills and creativity along the way. The concept was developed by Derek Joshua Altuna, Alexandria Jillian Braga, and Aniela Jenina Lesaca, collectively known as “Team BrainVentures” from De La Salle Santiago Zobel.

Power Mac Center Director of Product Management and Marketing Joey Alvarez is all praises for the winners. “Kids nowadays are woke. They understand what’s happening, they know what’s needed, and they help create simple but impactful solutions. And because they’re digital natives, they know how to leverage technology to their advantage.”

Apart from the iPad units they received, the kids of Team BrainVentures also get to attend free workshops by Power Mac Center’s Apple Certified Trainers, who will help create and upload their app in the App Store. It is expected to be up and running within the year.

Members of the Top 5 teams shortlisted in the “emPOWER UP! Design a Better World: App Development Challenge” participate in workshops and in-depth planning sessions with Apple Certified Trainers and representatives from partners KIDS CAN! Innovation Camp, Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST Asia), De La Salle College of Saint Benilde HiFi (Hub of Innovation for Inclusion), Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation, and I Am VR Panda.

Meanwhile, first runner-up winner Team Earth Hero (composed of Cameron Sanz, Rebecca De Veyra, and Hannah Mallinllin) designed an app for Climate Action, which got them Php 45,000 worth of Power Mac Center Gift Certificates in prizes. Team Clean ‘Em All (composed of Kaia Mikayla Diola, Enrico Joaquin Abella, and Sofia Annika Ysabel Pagilagan) won Php 30,000 worth of Power Mac Center Gift Certificates for an app on Climate Action and caring for Life Below Water and Life on Land.

emPOWER UP! Design a Better World: App Development Challenge was staged in cooperation with KIDS CAN!

An Apple Authorized Training Provider, Power Mac Center continuously empowers and enhances the technical and creative skills of the youth through annual training programs such as the Summer Workshop. For details and reservation of seats, interested clients may contact the Training Team at (0908) 885 6277 or email pbsi@powermaccenter.com.

Derek Joshua Altuna, Alexandria Jillian Braga, and Aniela Jenina Lesaca present their winning concept “BrainVentures,” an app that addresses the UN goal of Quality Education for all. It puts players through a series of activities that let them explore and develop their skills and creativity along the way.

Sofia Annika Ysabel Pagilagan, Enrico Joaquin Abella, and Kaia Mikayla Diola of Team Clean ‘Em All receive the second runner-up award and Php 30,000 worth of Power Mac Center gift certificates for an app on Climate Action and caring for Life Below Water and Life on Land.

Power Mac Center collaborates with Brillante Mendoza, Shaira Luna to mentor young creative

Power Mac Center has always been all-out in supporting technology-assisted creative expression. Just recently, the premier Apple partner gathered young creatives, mostly photographers and videographers, in an event called Lounge to help them build connections in the industry, get to interact and learn first-hand from professionals like Director Brillante Mendoza and Shaira Luna, and discover powerful devices to boost their craft.

Young creatives get up close with Power Mac Center and LaCie brand ambassadors Director Brillante Mendoza and Shaira Luna to learn tricks of the trade at the Lounge, a meet-up of creative minds to connect them with professionals and help them discover powerful devices to boost their craft.

In partnership with LaCie, a French brand of digital storage solutions, Power Mac Center was able to get internationally acclaimed Director Brillante Mendoza to talk about his experience in the film industry and give the young creatives tips in filmmaking.

“I use several cameras on the set. I use three to four cameras on the set. 4K lahat so mabibigat yung mga files so on the set, we make sure na right after the shoot or even during the shoot actually, kailangan tina-transfer and LaCie is really very useful in that aspect,” Mendoza told his audience.

An independent filmmaker through and through, Mendoza enjoys the full creative freedom to tell his story the way he wants to. His biggest challenge though, was sourcing for funds. So in order to secure his hard work, which is the film itself, Mendoza makes sure to invest in equipment that are reliable and provide him with complete peace of mind.

Meanwhile, for her part, professional fashion and advertising photographer Shaira Luna talked about what drives her to follow her passion in photography and how LaCie complements her on-the-go lifestyle and keeps her file transfer speedy and protected.

“I’m very thankful that I have LaCie to back me up. I just have so many pictures if only you know. I’ve started organizing my Instagram into color themes because I just have that many photos,” Luna said.

Luna loves being a photographer because it allows her to travel and meet a lot of people, especially creative minds she gets to work with in the process.

“Power Mac Center shares LaCie’s commitment to support the creative community. More than anything, we provide solutions to the demands of the industry from creatives of today,” said Power Mac Center Marketing Director Joey Alvarez.

An evening of fun, learning, and discovery, the Lounge event was meant to bring creatives together and “lounge” with industry movers to share/brew ideas. LaCie will continue to hold such pocket events for its new products this 2018.

LaCie is Seagate’s premium brand of world-class storage solutions designed for Mac users, photographers, videographers, audio professionals, and other power users. Its products are available in Power Mac Center stores nationwide.

Power Mac Center’s official statement on the iPhone battery servicing

In light of Apple’s official communication regarding the chemical aging issue of batteries on older iPhone units, Power Mac Center, being an Authorized Service Provider, is committed to provide efficient and professional service through a strict set of protocols, which consists of the following:

• Devices must undergo diagnosis to check the battery condition and other internal and external physical/accidental damage or unauthorized modification that may or may not be visible to the naked eye.

• If such issues are found, the iPhone will be ineligible for the battery replacement.

• If, during the diagnosis, we also find other hardware issues, our Apple Certified Engineer will recommend a part/unit replacement accordingly.

• Customers may or may not proceed with the recommendation, but if they decide to pull out, they have to settle the diagnostic fee if the unit is out or void of warranty. The battery replacement fee is Php1,500 for eligible units out of warranty, inclusive of labor. This price may change due to importation costs and without prior notice.

This is Apple’s current and official procedure in all of their partner service centers and we have to comply with it.

We would like to assure our customers that Power Mac Center Service Engineers are Apple-certified and they take their craft seriously. Whatever they do reflects on the brand so there must be no room for error in such proceedings.

Moreover, Power Mac Center is wholly committed to providing Filipinos the complete Apple experience. Since its announcement two weeks ago, we have successfully replaced the iPhone batteries of over 150 satisfied customers. Should they have further questions, they are free to contact the AppleCare Hotline.

Thank you.

Product Line

This year, Anker marks its official debut with an extensive line of external batteries, cables, and portable hubs.

Nylon Braided Lightning Cable

The Nylon Braided Lightning Cable enables you to sync and charge your iPhone and iPad with speed up to 20% faster than non-certified cables. LaCie Launches Next Generation Porsche Design Drives and New Rugged Products, First Showcased With Power Mac Center

LaCie Porsche Design Drives New USB-C connector for next-generation computers
Charge your laptop while connected to the drive
Included USB 3.0 adapter works with PC or Mac®
Sleek, all-aluminum enclosure by Porsche Design

LaCie, the premium brand from Seagate Technology announced the availability of a new line of LaCie® Porsche Design Drives and LaCie® Rugged™ mobile drives in the Philippines. These new products were first showcased at Power Mac Center located at Power Plant Mall.

LaCie Porsche Design Drives

Housed in sleek all-aluminum enclosures that reflect the signature Porsche Design style, the new Mobile and Desktop Drives feature forward-thinking USB-C connectivity for next generation computers like the latest MacBook®.

Its new USB-C connector makes the drive incredibly easy to connect, since both ends of the cable are identical and the connector is reversible. The drives also deliver fast transfer speeds, so users can drag and drop files and perform backups quickly. Plus, they are compatible with standard USB 3.0 (Type-A) ports thanks to the included adapter cable.

By harnessing the power of USB 3.1, the LaCie Porsche Design Desktop Drive will charge a compatible laptop’s battery* when the drive’s power supply is connected to the wall outlet. Via a single USB-C cable, users can power their notebook and access their drive at the same time.

Both the Mobile and Desktop Drives feature all-aluminum enclosures to make the products lightweight yet sturdy, while forming the distinctly Porsche Design modern and elegant style. Beyond aesthetics, the solid aluminum enclosure is also scratch resistant, protects the hard drive mechanics and dissipates heat for optimal performance.

LaCie Rugged DRIVES

With its durability, performance and data security, the LaCie Rugged family, design by Neil Poulton, has been the preferred all-terrain storage by creative professionals on the go.

LaCie Rugged RAID
Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 for speeds of up to 240 MB/s
Hardware RAID 0/1 flexibility for speed or security
Shock, dust and water resistance for all-terrain use

LaCie Rugged RAID offers twice the speed and capacity of a standard mobile hard drive**. It is also the only product in its class to feature hardware RAID 0 and 1, which lets professionals optimize the product for speed or data security according to their workflow.

LaCie Rugged RAID features Thunderbolt™ and USB 3.0 along with two internal hard drives that are preconfigured in hardware RAID 0 for sustained performance of up to 240 MB/s***. With this speed, users can transfer 64 GB of content in less than five minutes, and even start to edit photos in the field with Adobe® Lightroom®. This time savings is key for field-based professionals who collect and move tons of data onto external storage.

When choosing RAID 1 (mirrored mode), the data is duplicated across the two drives. So, even if a single drive fails in the field, the data remains accessible from the other drive. This is especially helpful to on-the-go professionals with limited laptop capacity.

With 4TB capacity, the LaCie Rugged can store the equivalent of sixty 64 GB memory cards. This allows professionals to carry fewer drives while acquiring more photos, footage, and other types of content in the field.

LaCie Rugged RAID is tested to withstand drops▲ of up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) and being run over by a 1-ton car▲▲. With its cap in place, the LaCie Rugged is IP 54-rated for superior resistance to dust and water splashing – even during operation. It also includes LaCie Private-Public software, which lets users password-protect the entire drive or only certain volumes with AES 256-bit encryption.

The LaCie Rugged Triple Hard Disk provides speeds of USB 3.0 and FireWire 800, with superior durability that users have come to expect. It offers universal connectivity as it is fully backward compatible with FireWire 400 and USB 2.0.

These new LaCie products were first showcased by Power Mac Center, a LaCie Partner. With the added Rugged mobile drives, Power Mac Center is the first in the country to offer the complete range of the LaCie Rugged family.

“We are excited to introduce new LaCie storage drives in Philippines,” said Tim Bucher, vice president for Seagate’s Consumer Group. “We are committed to bring the best-in-class storage solutions that merge sleek designs and latest technologies, providing users with complete peace of mind that their precious data is protected.

More iOS Memory in a Flash: Introducing Leef iBRIDGE

www.myrnaroman.com

Leef has unveiled its highly anticipated mobile flash drive designed for Apple iOS devices, Leef iBRIDGE.

Compact and convenient, this is a stylish plug-in memory accessory for iPhones, iPods and iPads. It gives users more storage space without needing to delete treasured photos, videos or music.

While there are many external memory solutions available to people with Android smartphones or tablets, Apple enthusiasts have been seemingly overlooked … until now.

Leef iBRIDGE plugs directly into compatible Apple devices with

Lightning connectors and allows people to:
• Backup their Camera Roll automatically and quickly move photos off their phone
• Store your entire movie or music library externally to conserve internal memory and then stream media directly without having to worry about mobile data connection issues
• Capture photos directly to Leef iBRIDGE so you never miss life's most memorable events when your iPhone runs out of memory
• Share photos, videos and other content with friends or between devices simply and quickly
www.myrnaroman.comIn terms of style, design and capacity, Leef iBRIDGE is the ultimate user-friendly gadget, trouncing the few other bulky external memory solutions available to Apple users. Available in sizes ranging from 16GB to 64GB, it has a sleek, ergonomic ‘J’ shaped appearance and neatly curves round the back of a device rather than sticking out awkwardly. It plugs securely into your device without forcing the users to remove protective cases or hold their phone awkwardly.

What’s more, Leef iBRIDGE features a standard Hi-Speed USB connector on the other end, meaning users can quickly share content cross platform with Macs or Windows PCs.

Using mobile devices to capture memories through photo and video, listen to music and watch movies, or work while on the move is now away of life for many iOS mobile users. The dreaded

‘There is not enough available storage’ message has been the cause of frustration for Apple fans, but with Leef iBRIDGE, this no longer has to be the case.
“Leef iBRIDGE is compact, lightweight and complements iPhones, iPods and iPads as a standalone lifestyle accessory,” says Jonny Anderson, Partner and Director at Leef.
“It is ideal for those nervous about storing personal data in cloud applications. Leef iBRIDGE will be popular for Apple users who want to get more from their devices.”
Leef iBRIDGE is quick and conserves power too, with no need for an internal device battery. For example, backing-up 500 photos to your Leef iBRIDGE uses less than 1% of your iPhone battery life. Leef iBRIDGE comes with a free iOS7/iOS8 Leef iBRIDGE App, available for download on the App Store.
