Star Wars Fan Fest Lands in SM Cinema

In line with the release of the highly anticipated film Solo: A Star Wars Story and in celebration of SM’s 60th year, SM Cinema recently welcomed over 60 Star Wars costumed fans at SM North EDSA, The Block Atrium for the Star Wars Fan Fest!

Everyone was thrilled with the Star Wars-inspired hyper-space walkway tunnel and photo booth from SM Cinema while, Toy Kingdom indulged the fans and collectors as it featured Star Wars’ special merchandise and Globe 0917 opened their Star Wars themed apparel booth. Aside from these, the Star Wars geeks participated with the “Han Solo Pop Quiz Night”. Privileged winners got exclusive Star Wars items and SM Cinema movie cards.



SM Cinema, as it continues to promote the Reel-to-Real experience to its movie goers, also brought the force of Star Wars Fan Fest the day after its premiere at SM Aura where it held a much participated “market day” where interactive booths were unveiled, matched with an exciting mini-program serving as the front act for the night. Fans were also treated with a live art session and a light-saber handling tutorial to complete their Jedi experience!

#CreateCourage Star Wars: Rogue One Campaign Bags 8 Boomerang Awards - Globe Hailed as Advertiser of the Year

Globe Telecom’s #CreateCourage campaign to promote its partnership with the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars, won numerous awards at the recent 2017 Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP) Boomerang Awards, including the coveted Advertiser of the Year award.

Launched last December 2016 as part of the telco’s multi-year strategic partnership with entertainment giant Disney, #CreateCourage advocated for non-judgmental understanding and to celebrate bravery during struggle through a short film. 

The campaign also bagged several awards including Special Award for Best of Show, Special Award for Effectiveness, Gold Award for Campaign: Tech and Telecommunications, Silver Award for Campaign: Leisure, Wellness and Entertainment, Silver Award for Digital Craft: Visual and Audio Excellence, Silver Award for Effectiveness: Awareness and Bronze Award for Effectiveness: Engagement. 

The film tells the story of a young Star Wars fan named Alex who wears her Stormtrooper helmet every day at home, in school, or out and about, piquing the curiosity of people around her. One day, she enters her classroom and is surprised that her whole class too was wearing the same helmets, showing her support. This then leads to the heartwarming reveal of the girl’s condition when she takes off her helmet to reveal the oxygen mask.

Wonderfully demonstrating a child’s resilience and triumph over challenges, the heart-tugging video went viral in a matter of days after its release by Globe, and soon received praise from all over the world, especially from Star Wars fans. It garnered over 45 million views and has been recognized by top online news channels such as CNN International, Mashable, Huffington Post, Upworthy. It also received international acclaim with the Best Short Form award at the 2017 Brand Film Festival New York.

The campaign sought to raise awareness for the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), which needed to raise funds for the rehabilitation of its pediatric oncology clinic. Globe enlisted the support of its millions of viewers to donate to the clinic, so that the hospital could make it a warmer, more cheerful environment conducive to the children’s recovery.
“Creating societal value is important to us in any campaign that we take on. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had very inspiring values that allowed us to come up with the story for the ad. We are honored by the recognition from IMMAP and grateful to have been given the chance to try and positively impact the real world,” said Albert de Larrazabal, Chief Commercial Officer, Globe Telecom.
The Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines created The Boomerangs in 2008, recognizing innovation and excellence in digital marketing and advertising. This year’s awards received its highest turnout of 263 submissions.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Gateway Dolby Atmos Cinema


The biggest Dolby Atmos Cinema in the country located at Gateway Mall, Araneta Center was launched last Wednesday December 17, the perfect time with the advanced screening of perfect movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Featuring a revolutionary audio platform that creates powerful, moving audio using audio objects and overhead speakers, Gateway Mall’s Dolby Atmos Cinema boasts of sounds that come from all directions, the dialogue and music of the onscreen story move all around the audience in three-dimensional space, transporting them into the scenes and putting them in the middle of the action. Definitely the most suitable venue for the much-awaited movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. 


Araneta Group CEO Jorge Araneta shared that this will definitely be a fantastic and world-class movie experience not just for Star Wars fans but for the whole family.

Compared to regular theatres, Dolby Atmos Cinema has the most number of speakers with a 53.5 sound system (53 individual surround channels and 5 subwoofers). Each speaker is powered independently and gets its own separate audio feed. In effect, the movement of every sound in the scene is reproduced in all three dimensions.

The Dolby Atmos technology gives content creators unprecedented control of the placement and movement of sound within the movie theatre. Sounds can be placed and moved anywhere in the cinema’s three-dimensional space. The Dolby Atmos Cinema processor then determines which of a cinema’s huge array of front, back, side, and overhead speakers it will use to recreate this lifelike movement. 

With sounds coming from all directions, the cinema is filled with astonishing clarity, richness, detail, and depth. This creates a multidimensional sound system that makes audiences feel as if they are inside the film and not just watching it.



Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh installment in the Star Wars film series and the first to be directed by J.J. Abrams.

Thirty years after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, the galaxy faces a new threat from the evil Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the First Order. When a defector named Finn crash-lands on a desert planet, he meets Rey (Daisy Ridley), a tough scavenger whose droid contains a top-secret map. Together, the young duo joins forces with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) to make sure the Resistance receives the intelligence concerning the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), the last of the Jedi Knights.

Set around 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, the sequel follows the adventures of new lead characters Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) as they join forces with original characters Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) to fight Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and his broadsword lightsaber. The film also features Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, and Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata.

The Force Awakens is the first film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, announced after The Walt Disney Company's acquisition of Lucas film in October 2012. The film is produced by Lucas film president Kathleen Kennedy, Abrams, and his long-time collaborator Bryan Burk.

May is Star Wars month on TV5's MovieMax5

The Force is Strong With This One! 

TV5 spreads "the force" as MovieMax5 features the Tagalized versions of the hit Star Wars Saga for the whole month of May.


A brainchild of Star Wars creator George Lucas, the epic space opera franchise made a mark in the movie industry by creating a pop culture phenomenon that captured the hearts of moviegoers worldwide. The film series did not just break box office records but also garnered numerous nominations and awards from prestigious award-giving bodies.
