Teleperformance named as one of the Best Workplaces in Asia

Teleperformance (TP), a multi-awarded and leading digital business services company, has been named as one of the Best Workplaces in Asia™ in 2023 by the Great Place to Work®(GPTW) institute.

The company ranked 11th among 30 multinational enterprises spanning various industries. Teleperformance also stood as the second-best performer in the professional services category and earned a place among the “elite group of progressive employers in Asia” in the GPTW®-curated list.

The GPTW® researchers assessed Teleperformance by surveying over 90,000 employees across Asia. These employees were asked to evaluate key factors that make a company a great workplace for all, including workplace safety, gender fairness, diversity, and inclusivity.

The results showed that 91% of employees believe Teleperformance is a physically safe place to work. In addition, 87% of employees agreed that Teleperformance fosters a gender-fair environment, while 86% recognized the organization’s efforts to ensure inclusivity within the workplace.

Furthermore, Teleperformance in the Philippines has played a significant role in its inclusion in the Best Workplaces in Asia List. Last August, the organization earned the distinction of being recognized as a Great Place to Work® for the sixth consecutive year. In 2018, Teleperformance became the first company and member of the IT-BPM sector in the Philippines to be certified Great Place to Work®. The award-giving body revealed that TP has gained above-minimum scores from different gender and identity groups across its departments.

“Receiving recognition as one of Asia's Best Workplaces in 2023 underscores our commitment to establishing an exceptional workplace. In every TP site across the globe, our teammates are diligently working to ensure that every Teleperformance employee has the opportunity to thrive and make meaningful contributions within a safe and inclusive environment," shared Jeffrey Johnson, Chief People Officer and Chief of Staff at Teleperformance in the Philippines.

Teleperformance has remained steadfast in upholding its values through initiatives, such as, but not limited to, partnerships with the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

These collaborations have facilitated projects focused on HIV awareness, vaccinations, and the distribution of wellness kits to employees. By consistently upholding integrity in the workplace, Teleperformance has also retained its position among Cebu’s top 10 IT-BPM employers and has been recognized in the inaugural IT-BPM list of the Philippines’ Best Workplaces for 2023.

The “leading and most prestigious ICT awards in the Philippines,” organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham), honored TP and other sterling companies in the field of information and communications technology in the Philippines.

Teleperformance Philippines Chief Executive Officer and Country Head Francisco “Sisco” Lara welcomed the recognition saying, “It is remarkable to think that just months prior to this award by IICTAP, Teleperformance also gained a spot in the Philippines Best Workplaces, which was also such a huge deal given that it was backed by the team behind the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For. With this award and our recent triumph in adjacent award-giving bodies, TP has further advanced its leadership position in the industry.”

Before receiving the premier Hall of Fame award, Teleperformance was conferred by the IICTAP as the “BPO Employer of the Year” in 2011. Chief People Officer Jeffrey Johnson also shared his insight regarding the company’s most recent win, expressing gratitude to the Teleperformance Philippines family, and emphasizing the new challenge for the company to accomplish greater things in the industry.

“This victory wouldn’t be possible without the collective efforts of our people across all our sites in the country. With the company’s drive to expand in more cities and key areas supported by a stellar year-on-year growth, we are confident that we will continue to meet—and exceed—our exemplary record and achieve more in the coming years, Jeffrey stated.”

This year, Teleperformance celebrates its 26th year in the Philippines. The company stands proudly as one of the country’s top employers, providing rewarding, meaningful career opportunities for more than 50,000 Filipinos across 23 business sites in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Teleperformance is the first business, the largest employer, and first BPO company in the Philippines to be certified Great Place to Work® (GPTW) since 2018. This year TP Philippines is set for its sixth consecutive GPTW® certification through an independent survey participated by over 50,000 employees from 23 sites across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

“I am really, really proud of TP Pride because this program continues to get better and it continues to see more participation. I look forward to where the future will take us,” he added.

Several of the company’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DE&I) initiatives like TP Pride, a platform for gender awareness and gender sensitivity, are powered by grassroots advocates from different levels of the organization who regularly gather for learning, support, and community activities such as the annual Pride March across the country.

Aside from the annual Pride March, TP’s support has materialized with the creation of a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) policy that caters to the particular medical needs of all employees, regardless of gender; and the commitment to advocacies, such as, but not limited to, the development of a comprehensive and industry-recognized HIV awareness program.

Another DE&I initiative, Teleperformance’s TP Women ensure equal representation and opportunities within the company’s workforce. In the Philippines, over 50% of employees are women across the board, including in management positions.

Teleperformance Philippines commits to strengthen gender and disability inclusivity in the workplace

Teleperformance (TP) Philippines,
a leading global group in digitally integrated business services, raised awareness among their employees on the struggles that persons with disabilities (PWDs) encounter in the workplace and how to create an inclusive workplace for all.

In an internal forum titled “Interweaving Inclusion in our TP DNA,” which was organized by TP Women, Teleperformance’s gender inclusivity arm that aims to promote gender and disability inclusivity, TP featured key resource persons and Teleperformance Philippines employees as speakers on PWD inclusivity in the workplace, especially women with disabilities.

“No DE&I journey ever stops. It’s a constant process of having conversations, of learning, of growing, and of building a culture in the organization,” said Jeffrey Johnson, Senior Vice President of Human Capital Resource Management, in his opening remarks. “We do this not because we’re supposed to, but because it’s the right thing to do.”

During the forum, TP Philippines employees with disabilities recounted their experiences, observations, and recommendations in a roundtable discussion on being a person with disabilities in daily life and in the workplace.

Participating in the discussion was Marilyn Ventenilla, TP Women Chair and Senior Director of Communication and Marketing, who identifies herself as a PWD. “What we’re doing now is a significant first step,” said Ventenilla. “Learning, experiencing, and observing what persons with disabilities are going through are essential for us to empathize with them and understand their expectations.”

Meanwhile, among the guest speakers were Ryan Gersava, Founder and CEO of Virtualahan, Inc., and Jennifer Anne Mendoza, Membership and Client Care Specialist of the Philippine Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (PBCWE).

Jennifer Anne Mendoza of the PBCWE did a talk on disability inclusive leadership, addressing the need for inclusivity in the workplace and the added challenges of women employees with disabilities. “A workplace diversity and inclusion initiative that overlooks the issue of disability fails to address the needs of a large segment of the population,” said Mendoza.

Meanwhile, Ryan Gersava of Virtualahan, Inc., an online vocational school providing inclusive training and empowering companies to become inclusive employers, spoke about the importance of disclosure and the challenges of non-apparent disabilities and promoting disability-inclusive employment. “Disclosure is the key to solving the systemic and intergenerational problem,” said Gersava. “It is very personal and it is very difficult, and it requires a very strong support system: a strong support system that you and I can build together.”

The forum event closed with attending leaders making a digital pledge to actively promote and foster gender and disability inclusivity in the workplace. Leaders came up with personal ways on how they plan on doing so and shared them on the call. Among them was Teleperformance Philippines Chief Executive Officer Francisco Lara Padilla.

“It’s not enough to just talk about it. We’ve got to do something, we’ve got to prioritize it – especially if we want to achieve real changes,” said Lara in his closing remarks. “We may not have the answers 100% – but we will get there. We all have to start somewhere.”

Teleperformance Philippines also recently received their 5th consecutive Great Place to Work® Certification. The Great Place to Work® certification is awarded to companies based on its level of credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie as surveyed by employees. TP Philippines was the first company to be certified in any industry and is the largest employer in the county to be certified this year.

Teleperformance received an Award of Merit for the COVID-19 Employee Communication Microsite, a bespoke communications hub launched in the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines. It is the world’s first Smart 1Question Job Interview Bot and is a streamlined social and mobile recruitment bot on Facebook Messenger. In three easy steps – register, verify, interview – applicants were able to complete the interview process in a matter of minutes all found in a convenient gamified and challenging content on Facebook Messenger, resulting in approximately 35,000 completed automated interviews in just 7.5 months and a total of over 9,500 Filipinos hired in just a month.

As a response to the need for upskilling amid the pandemic, Teleperformance also launched the English Communication Webinar Series, which received an Award of Merit. The series provided free virtual English lessons on the company’s Facebook page for people looking to add and improve their skills through basic English topics such as pronunciation and accent, grammar and vocabulary, thought organization and coherence, and written communication. The series garnered nearly 33,000 attendees on Zoom and Facebook Live, over 727,000 Facebook offline viewers across its 18 seasons from April 2020 to October 2021, and received overwhelming positive feedback from attendees.

Lastly, TP also received an Award of Merit for the Teleperformance Molino Recruitment Center Virtual Groundbreaking Event. Teleperformance Philippines receives ISO 45001: 2018 certification for excellent occupational health and safety programs

In line with their commitment to creating a safe workplace for all, Teleperformance (TP) Philippines, the global leader in outsourced omnichannel customer experience management, has been awarded the ISO 45001: 2018 certification.

Teleperformance Philippines gets ISO 45001: 2018 certification. Present during the ceremonies were (L-R) Rachel Cacabelos, TP Philippines VP for Human Resources and Communications & Marketing, SGS Sales Head Rose Mangubat, SGS Account Manager Nina Alejandro, TP Philippines Chief Operations Officer Joey Marquez, TP Philippines SVP for Human Capital Resource Management Jeffrey Johnson, and TP Philippines VP for Facilites & Administration Ed Punzalan

ISO 45001 or the Occupational Health and Safety Management System Certification is the world’s first International Standard for occupational health and safety (OHS). It promotes a safe and healthy working environment by providing a framework that allows organizations to identify and reduce their OHS risks, reduce potential for workplace accidents and illnesses and improve legislative compliance.

TP Philippines worked together with Standard Global Services (SGS), testing, inspection and certification company, who helped audit the company. To achieve the certification, TP Philippines underwent intensive training and design, and put in place several health and safety precautions in their business sites such as training of personnel, including doctors, nurses, safety officers, and first aiders; auditing of welfare facilities such as clinic, gym, washing, and sleeping areas; and an emergency management plan development which includes an emergency response team, site emergency response kit and first aid station. Moreover, TP Philippines initiated Policies and Program for the prevention and control of HIV-AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Hepatitis B in the workplace.

SGS Philippines Account Manager Nina Alejandro shared, “We are proud of Teleperformance Philippines management team’s commitment and participation to the organization’s processes which clearly manifested assurance in safety and customer satisfaction. Noteworthy was the optimism and enthusiasm of the team members to work together then with the audit team throughout the entire certification journey.”

TP Philippines Chief Operations Officer Joey Marquez also talked about the significance of the certification. “The health and safety of our people has always been on top of our priorities. Achieving this certification means that we are indeed a great workplace. This does not only help our workforce and our company, but we are also able to contribute to our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals,” said Marquez.

The certification addresses four of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, namely, good health and wellbeing, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure, and sustainable cities and communities.

TP Philippines has so far successfully implemented 92% of COVID-19 Health and Safety protocols, whose performance was successfully audited by the OSH committee, including strict implementation of physical distancing, monitoring of body temperature upon entry, deployment of disinfection station, strict implementation of wearing of facemask within facilities, and requiring fit-to- work certificate for back to work employees, among others.

“Our commitment to occupational health and safety does not end with this certification. As we continue to navigate the new work environment, we are confident that Teleperformance Philippines is ready and equipped for bringing great interactions to our clients and to their customers, whether onsite or at home,” continued Marquez.

Last year, TP Philippines also launched TPVac, their own nationwide vaccination program, which was able to vaccinate nearly all of its onsite team members in 2021. TP also upholds the strictest safety standards in their business locations to protect their employees working onsite, with their Bacolod site being awarded a Certificate of Safety Seal for its compliance to health and safety protocols against COVID-19.

In 2021, TP Philippines was also certified Great Place to Work® for the fourth consecutive year and recently became part of the Philippines Best Workplaces™ list. These achievements were determined through creating globally exceptional employee experiences, high-trust relationships, and workplaces that are fair and equal for all through initiatives such as TP Women and TP Pride, as well as partnerships with organizations to bring employment to marginalized communities such as persons with disabilities (PWD) and indigenous people.

They prioritize the holistic well-being of their employees as fatigue and burnout become more evident in workplaces,” says Antoniette Mendoza-Talosig, Managing Partner of Great Place to Work® Philippines and Principal Consultant of Great Place to Work® ASEAN.

Teleperformance Philippines Chief Operations Officer Joey Marquez underlined the significance of this achievement: "This milestone gives us the perfect opportunity to showcase our values, the Teleperformance culture, and the great work of our people in delivering excellent customer service to our customers, clients, and stakeholders. This recognition further inspires us to create more remarkable experiences for our people – whether they may be working in one of business sites across the country, or in their homes."

Teleperformance said that they will continue to move forward towards their goals while upholding the high standards of being a Best Place to Work™. The company also looks forward to giving back through the Citizen of the World corporate sustainability programs and initiatives. Most of all, Teleperformance will carry on fostering a TP culture that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive for all.

Teleperformance has been certified Great Place to Work® in the Philippines consecutively in the last four years, becoming the first company in the Philippines to achieve this feat. The Trust Index Survey conducted in 2021 by the Great Place to Work® Institute had the highest participation rate among the Teleperformance Philippines employees across all 22 business sites.

During the pandemic, employee initiatives held by Teleperformance were recognized by various sectors such as the Safety Seal Committee certifying Teleperformance business sites that ensure health and safety protocols against COVID-19. Teleperformance also rolled out free COVID-19 vaccination for employees through the TPVac program and currently has a partnership with the government to conduct vaccinations in various Teleperformance Philippines workplaces for employees and their loved ones.

In addition, Teleperformance celebrates diversity and inclusion through empowering both Women and the LGBTQ+ community through their TP Women and TP Pride councils as they raise awareness and educate employees through year-long initiatives. They also have a comprehensive HIV/AIDS program that has been awarded the Duyan Ambassador Award from Project Red Ribbon and recognized by the Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride (PFIP).

#BreakTheBias: Teleperformance Philippines shares tips for empowered women to break gender stereotypes in International Women’s Day

Teleperformance Philippines (TP) hosted its #BreakTheBias Digital Forum as part of its celebration to support International Women’s Day. Organized by TP Women, this event highlighted the importance of bringing light to the fight for women, identifying individuals for equality, and breaking stereotypes and reducing discrimination to create a gender-equal world.

Other topics include a conversation on gender bias and discrimination and how everyone can take a part in breaking the bias in the workplace. The event culminated in the participants taking a pledge to be advocates for gender equality.

Marilyn Ventenilla, Senior Director for Communications and Marketing and TP Women Philippines Chair, gave a message of encouragement during the event. “This also makes their journey at TP Women much more thrilling. As a catalyst, we're driving positive change and its members of the Teleperformance global community, we will pursue increased opportunities to support the human potential regardless of age, gender orientation, and ethnicity.”

TP Women, which was launched in 2019, is a Teleperformance effort committed to celebrating the accomplishments of women in the industry while also providing a network and support system for women.

The event was live-streamed at the Teleperformance Philippine Facebook Page and was hosted by Ceej Tantengco. Feature panelists included Program Manager of the Philippine Business Coalition for Women's Empowerment (PBCWE) Amor Curaming, Lunas Collective founder and Assistant Professor of the University of the Philippines Diliman's Department of Women and Gender Studies Sabrina "Inna" Gacad, Kreations Upcycled Furniture founder Akrisah Helig, multi-award-winning actress, comedian, and advocate for diversity Candy Pangilinan, and lastly, Director of Operations for Teleperformance's Telco group Nina Abad.

To further help women in breaking barriers both in home and workplace, panels in the TP Women forum offered us these tips:

Speak out, don’t drop out

To encourage women to continue pursuing their talent even after giving birth, they need to communicate with the terms that they want. “For the women they just have to communicate,” advised Amor Curaming. “They don't need to drop out, they can speak out and say they can do flexi work, or can I take a sabbatical for now, but I'll be returning. So, you know it's really a matter of communicating,” she expressed.

Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable

When it comes to self-care and finding freedom, Inna Gacad, expressed how women deprioritized their physical and mental health during the lockdown. However, she believes women also took on the challenge of providing care and assistance to volunteer for organizations that helped them support one another, “Yes, women were vulnerable, not only women rose to power, and it was possible because of community,” she said.

Build a supportive network

“It is often a misconception that women cannot be in leadership roles because we tend to be more emotional,” shared Nina Abad. She described how women struggle with the misconception of how they cannot take charge of leadership roles. “Sometimes it doesn't work that way. We need to ensure that a wider audience knows who you are, how you are performing, and what you are contributing in a broader sense. You have to talk about your accomplishments kept out there within your organization and the industry and build a supportive network,” Abad added.

Be an empowered woman

Akre Helig was asked on how to deal with people who think of themselves as “i’m only a woman”, she answered, “We should always remind them that we’re not a just a woman, but you are an empowered woman with creativity and have the capacity to create something beautiful and wonderful regardless of your gender.”

Women continue to face barriers and social discrimination that hinder them from achieving leadership positions in their fields. Currently ranked at number 17, the Philippines is the only Southeast Asian country to be included in the Top 20 list in the Global Gender Gap Report 2021. However, according to the Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA) December 2021 Labor Force Survey Report, men make up 76% of the labor force participation rate, while women make up 54%. This indicates that, because the gap is still wide, we must address our stereotypes in our society such as supporting women to be engaged in the workforce even after childbearing.

“Teleperformance will continue its mission as evangelists for achieving and sustaining equality within Teleperformance and beyond, so let's continue to join the movement to break the bias because collectively we know that we can break the bias in our communities, we can break the bias in our workplaces, we can break the bias in our schools, colleges and universities,” said Ventenilla.
