POWERHOUSE SINGER MARIA LAROCO GETS UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL ON HER X FACTOR UK JOURNEY

The X Factor UK teen contestant recounts her best moments at her homecoming celebration

Young power singer Maria Laroco comes home following week after week of sensational acts on The X Factor UK Season 15 airing exclusively on Blue Ant Entertainment. The budding superstar shared some of her biggest moments at a press event held at the Brickyard, Quezon City, where she also gave a special homecoming performance of her winning songs.

“My entire experience has been overwhelming,” Laroco said. “I’ve always wanted to sing at the X Factor UK. It’s my biggest dream, and being able to join the contest is already a huge achievement for me. I’m very happy to be given a chance to perform in front of the British audience, and especially Simon Cowell.”

The 17-year-old first made headlines when she wowed all four judges and the audience at the Wembley Stadium with her stunning rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain” during the live auditions. “I still couldn’t believe that I got four yeses from the judges. It was very surreal! I never expected to get a standing ovation from these really big people,” Laroco said about her audition.

Laroco won a spot in the Six Chair Challenge with Whitney Houston’s “Queen of the Night” that left international star maker Cowell wide-eyed with excitement. She almost lost her seat to another contestant, but was called back amidst popular demand from the crowd. The teen singer had to fight for her place once again when Cowell asked her to do a sing-off with another contender. It was a tough moment, but she managed to pull through by singing her audition piece, “Purple Rain.”

“That, vocally, was just like a different class,” The X Factor UK judge and One Direction member Louis Tomlinson couldn’t help but exclaim afterwards. Cowell was convinced and decided to keep her among the final six contenders under the “Girls” category.

The X Factor UK contestant shared how proud she was to be one of the many Filipino participants who won hearts from fans both in the UK and around the globe: “It feels incredible to represent our country,” Laroco said. “This contest really gave me an opportunity to raise our flag and show how talented Filipinos are.”

She also expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all her supporters at the X Factor UK. “I wouldn’t make it this far without everyone who cheered for me. Thank you so much for believing in me,” the young talent said. “I’ve learned a lot from the competition, and I’ll continue to work hard to make my dreams come true. Please continue to support me. I promise to have more in store for all of you in the future.”

FILIPINA SINGER MARIA LAROCO LOCKS IN A SEAT ON THE SIX CHAIR ROUND OF THE X FACTOR UK

It was like an X Factor UK version of musical chairs before Judge Simon Cowell identified his final six for the girls category on the fifth week of the reality singing competition.

The X Factor UK is now on the six chair challenge round where contestants are narrowed down to six acts for every category to move forward on the competition. This round started with the Girls category under the mentoring of judge Simon Cowell.

The 15 girls who passed the judges deliberation were called one by one to perform again for Simon to decide who gets a chair.

Maria Laroco was the fifth performer to be called, before she sang Whitney Houston’s Queen of the Night, Simon asked if she can cope with the pressure despite being only 17 years old.

“Well, I’m really nervous but I can do this!” Maria responded.

During her performance, Maria clearly impressed Simon Cowell when she sang the high notes of the song with no hesitation, the camera caught the judge’s reaction where his lips said “wow!”

After her song number, Maria got praised by judge Robbie “You’ve got a huge personality, a huge voice, you’re incredible, baby!” He said.

Simon then made her take the next available seat however it was not guaranteed until everyone has finished performing.

After a couple of performances, Simon then asked the 23-year-old Jennifer Owens to take the young singer’s seat, supposedly eliminating her from this round. The audience were clearly not pleased and have started booing Simon, demanding to bring Maria back.

Judge Robbie Williams also expressed his disapproval by telling Simon “I don’t understand.” Simon then asked Maria to come back on stage and traded another contestant’s seat.

When the rest of the girls started performing, it got more difficult for the Girls category mentor to decide. Down to the last act, Simon opted to give contestant Scarlet Lee a seat which prompted him to ask for a sing-off between Maria and another competitor Georgia Burgess. Belting out their audition pieces, Simon decided to keep them both and let go of Jennifer Owens who initially took Maria’s chair.

Maria Laroco now moves on to the next round of The X Factor UK.

The X Factor UK airs first and exclusive, same day as the UK on Blue Ant Entertainment every Sunday and Monday at 7:55 PM. Blue Ant Entertainment is available on SKYcable channels 53(SD) and 196(HD), SKYdirect channel 35, Destiny Cable channel 53, and Cablelink channels 37(SD) and 313(HD).

SEPHY FRANCISCO’S THE X FACTOR UK JOURNEY HAS COME TO AN END : The Dual-Voice Singer was Initially Given a Seat on The Six Chair Challenge but was Eventually Let Go

Dual-voice singer Sephy Francisco was eliminated from the six chair challenge of the reality singing competition ending her X Factor UK journey.

The fifth week of the reality singing competition just showcased how difficult it is for both the contestants and the judges. Now on the six chair challenge round, contestants in every category are narrowed down to six acts to move forward to the next round. It started with the Girls category under the mentoring of judge Simon Cowell.

The girls who passed the judges deliberation performed again for a chance to secure one of the six chairs. Sephy, the sixth act to be called, performed the song Never Enough from the movie The Greatest Showman. Her performance started with the usual female key arrangement of the song, but just like her audition piece, she surprised everyone again with a dual-voice performance. The audience were left in awe and were all on their feet after her performance.

Host Dermot O’ Leary exclaimed that he can watch people watching Sephy for the first time all day. A fellow contestant even uttered “that was so good!”

The girls category mentor Simon was impressed enough to make her take the last seat available. “This is gonna stand out, this is gonna be remembered, go and take the seat!” He said.

In the video reel before Sephy’s turn to sing, she shared that she wants to prove to Simon that she is worthy of that chair.

Getting a chair is not guaranteed for any contestant and it can still be taken away from anyone unless all the acts have completed performing, which was the case for Sephy.

Simon made 16-year-old student Molly Scott take Sephy’s seat, which eliminates her from the competition. The audience were noticeably disappointed with the decision and demanded for Simon to bring her back, but their demands fell into deaf ears as the judge did not change his mind.

Filipina singer Maria Laroco impresses The X Factor UK judges, gets a standing ovation from Simon Cowell, Louis Tomlinson, Ayda and Robbie Williams

Maria Laroco, 17, from the Philippines, wowed all four judges of The X Factor UK with her rendition of Purple Rain sung by Prince on the second week of the competition. Maria flew to UK all the way from the Philippines, sharing it was just her third time to get on a plane.

Before her performance, Judge Simon Cowell asked Maria what gives her the strength to come all the way from where she lives to perform in front of them. The young lady immediately answered “Since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to be an international superstar and I want to be big! That’s why I’m doing this because I love to do this, and this is my dream!”

Deep into Maria’s performance, as she hit on the high notes, the crowd started cheering loudly and were on their feet, the judges then followed one by one started by Robbie Williams, Ayda Williams and Louis Tomlinson. Simon Cowell was also on his feet at the end of her song.

Host Dermot O’leary expressed his awe by asking Maria’s companions “Is there anyone in the Philippines who can’t sing?”

That was absolutely incredible, incredible.” Former One Direction member and Judge Louis said. “To do what you’ve just done at 17, vocally, you absolutely, blew me away! Well done!” He added.

Judge Ayda gushed “O.M.G! You just bossed that stage, well done!”

Judge Simon asked “Was there ever one moment where you doubted this?”

Teary eyed Maria responded “No, I never gave up on my dreams, a lot of times people tell me that I can’t do it, that I’m not good enough.”

“Look what you did to the audience, that hasn’t happened a lot!” said Judge Robbie. “You’re amazing! I’m going to kick this off, and I’m going to give you a massive yes!” He added.

Judge Ayda followed saying “I’m gonna give you all the yeses I can possibly give you, Yes!”

“Maria, thank you so much for auditioning for this show, it’s a yes!” said Judge Louis.

“So you are 17 years old, and you’ve flown all the way [from the Philippines], which is a long trip, you’ve taken on probably one of the biggest songs in the world, I’m gonna go beyond the billion yeses, I’m gonna give you infinity yeses!” Judge Simon expressed.

Maria Laroco now moves on to the next round of The X Factor UK.

Filipina Singer Alisah Bonaobra Returns to The X Factor UK

Twenty-two-year-old Alisah Bonaobra won UK’s heart and made it back to the live shows on The X Factor UK. Viewers were asked to vote for an eliminated act from the Judges’ House round whom they want to come back and compete in the live shows.

On Sunday’s episode, it was a battle between the Boys and the Girls categories with the theme “Express Yourself.” The X Factor UK hopefuls performed a song of their choice related to the theme.

While introducing her wildcard winner, Sharon Osbourne was very thankful to the public for bringing Alisah back.

Alisah performed This is My Now by Jordin Sparks, which greatly impressed the judges and the audience. After her performance, the judges were on their feet and had nothing but compliments for her.

“That song is absolutely perfect for you because this is your now and you deserve to be back on the show. You always should have been on the show!” said Louis Walsh. “It’s almost like a winner’s song, and I love a power ballad with a key change from a great singer and you are a great singer! You’re a great performer. You got great soul and I love the way you fight back!” he added.

Nicole Scherzinger agreed with Louis and referred to Alisah as her little Disney warrior princess. “You just hiya-d and karate chopped all through that song! But you did it with grace. You did it with poise. You did it with strength. I freakin’ adore you!” she expressed. “I look at you and I’m like that’s my little ninja Filipina sister up there! You were meant to be up there, like [what Louis] said, this is your now, because that’s your stage, and you just took it tonight, honey!” she added.

“Everybody says in this contest that they really want this, and they really need to be here. I know your story. I know what you’ve gone through. And you know what? With a voice like yours, you’re gonna be here ‘til the end, Miss! I am so happy for you, so, so happy!” said judge and Girls category mentor Sharon Osbourne.

On the taped interview, Alisah called herself the “comeback queen.” She looked back at her journey where she was let go but asked to come back and fight for her spot at the Six Chair Challenge. Now she is back again as the wildcard winner.

When host Dermot O’Leary asked the judges who they thought won the night, the lady judges Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne both favored Alisah.

Alisah survived week 1 of the live shows and will continue with her journey on the competition.

Alisah Bonaobra finallly secures spot on the Six Chair Challenge in the Girls of The X Factor UK

The 22-Year-Old Singer Was Asked To Give Up Her Seat, But The Audience Demanded To Bring Her Back

The X Factor UK journey continues for Alisah Bonaobra as she secured a spot in the Six Chair Challenge in the Girls category to be mentored by judge Sharon Osbourne in today’s episode of the show.

Alisah walked on stage in her red evening gown and performed a classic Celine Dion hit All By Myself, that drove the crowd, other contestants, and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh on their feet.

“Your style is very dated, it’s very cabaret for me, but you have this amazing gift, this voice, it’s huge.” Sharon told Alisah after her performance.

All the seats were taken when she performed but judge Sharon made sure she got one by making Taliah Dorto give up hers.

But getting a seat after performing was not a guarantee until all the acts finished their performances. Alisah knew this when Sharon made her give up the seat for Grace Davies. This decision shocked not just the audience but the rest of the judges as well.

Simon Cowell could not believe what happened and walked out.

Judge Louis Walsh also expressed his disbelief with the decision. “Oh no, no you can’t do that!”
The audience chanted loudly asking Sharon to bring her back, to which Sharon responded.

“Please guys, would you please give me time to receive the last two girls and then I can think about it?”

The Filipino-Australian hopeful Elysa V also secured a seat after her performance of Meghan Trainor’s Me Too, but after a while, Sharon made her give up her seat for the last act to perform, Georgina Panton.

All the seats were taken during this time, but the crowd is clearly not satisfied with the decision. For the second time, they chanted loudly asking Sharon to bring Alisah back.

“Okay you guys! Oh, you are so hard to please!” Sharon expressed. “Alright, I’m gonna bring Alisah back but I wanna hear a sing off with her and Scarlett, and Rai Elle.

The crowd got very excited and cheered really loud as soon as Alisah walked back on stage.

“Girls, I am so sorry to make you all do this, but what do I do when there’s so much talent here and the audience, I have to listen to the audience. But no matter what, I have two chairs and three girls.” Sharon told the girls before they start their second performance for the last chance to get a seat. “I want you to all do a sing off for me because you’re all so talented, don’t forget that!” she added.

Alisah, who had been crying since she walked back on stage was the last to take her chance on the sing off.

“Don’t be afraid, come on stand your ground” said Sharon before she starts singing.

Alisah showed how badly she wanted that seat and surprised everyone with her powerful version of Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj. Making sure she hit all the high notes and aced the rap part of the song.

She made almost everyone stand from their seats, and judge Nicole Scherzinger even went up on the judges’ table and danced while Alisah was performing.

After her surprising performance, the crowd, and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh were all on their feet.

“Well Alisah, you showed me didn’t you?” Sharon exclaimed.

She then decided let go of Scarlett Lee, kept Rai Elle Williams, and had Alisah finally lock in one of the six chairs.

The judges then went up on stage to congratulate the girls who made it, where Sharon remained in awe of Alisah’s sing off performance.

“Where were you hiding that? Oh my Lord!” Sharon told Alisah.

The girls who are in the Six Chair challenge are Deanna, Alisah, Rai Elle, Grace, Georgina and Holly. They are all moving to the next round of the competition which is the judges house.

Filipino-Australian Singer Elysa V Moves To Individual Bootcamp Audition On The X Factor UK

Elysa V was the only rose among the thorns during the group bootcamp performance at the Sunday’s episode of The X Factor UK. Along with three guys El’Tee, Brad Howard and Sam Black, the group started with the song Locked out of Heaven by Bruno Mars.

Not long after the performance, Simon Cowell raised his hand and made them stop. “This is not working, this is a bad song,” he said. “I’ll tell you what we’re gonna do. We’re gonna judge this acapella,” he added.

When Sam Black struggled to continue with the song, judge Nicole Scherzinger encouraged the group to help him out, and Elysa took the lead in the part of the chorus.

After the song, the judges had a long deliberation on who should move to the next round. It was noticeable that the judges were having a difficult time deciding as it was a hard song.

After the judges’ long conversation among themselves, Louis Walsh talked to the group. “This has been so difficult guys because the song didn’t suit you. Some people were better than the others, but you can see [that] we’ve had a really long conversation about everybody,” he calmly said. “So what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna give you all a chance,” he added.

Upon hearing the good news, Elysa V gleefully jumped out of excitement and rushed to exchange hugs with the rest of the group.

Before everyone left the stage, Simon Cowell shared a few words. “It was partly because of the way you’re all with each other. This is the last pass you get because [as] you go forward tomorrow, it’s your own choices now, there’s no excuses,” he said. “I think you all behaved really well and we’re happy to give you all another shot tomorrow,” he added.

Elysa V and the rest of the group is moving to the individual bootcamp auditions which will define their chance for the Six Chair Challenge.

Filipina Singer Alisah Bonaobra awes the X Factor UK Judges with her performance of "Listen"

Alisah Bonaobra, singer from Manila, Philippines wowed all four judges of The X Factor UK with her version of Beyonce’s hit Listen on the seventh episode of the show. Her performance left judge Nicole Scherzinger in tears.

One of eight children, Alisah believed her talent is world class and took a chance of a lifetime in the competition. She flew to London with the help of her mother’s friend who helped them fund their plane tickets.

Accompanied by about 20 friends and family members, the judges could all hear the loud cheer of the group before she even walked into the room.

“I always think a lot of people from where you’re from [are] amazing singers” expressed by judge Simon before she starts singing.

Alisah confidently sang her heart out clearly impressing the judges with her talent. Not long in the performance, judge Nicole was already brought to tears. The half-Filipina judge could not help but show how amazed she was and even got on her feet to applaud her afterwards.

“This is not the best version of this song I’ve ever heard I’m not gonna lie to you,” said judge Simon Cowell. But there’s something about you I really, really like. Great, great, great energy! That was good; I really enjoyed that!” he added.

Judge Louis Walsh agreed and said, “I think she’s adorable! You’re a great singer, you’re a great person! It was a great audition, but there’s something about you that we really like.”

Judge Sharon Osbourne was almost speechless, her words were brief but sweet enough for Alisah “I just want to cry. Oh, it’s a yes from me!”

Judge Nicole Scherzinger, who was still in tears told the young singer, “I am crying because I come from very humble beginnings as well. You’re just gorgeous, you’re just this tiny little thing with a voice given from God, this unbelievable gift blowing everybody away. I connect with you and everybody and it’s a yes for you and all the Filipinos out there.”

Soon as she got her fourth yes from Judge Simon, her family and friends hurried in the audition room and exchanged hugs with her and all the judges.

Alisah will be joining the bootcamp with fellow Filipinos Gaga Lord, JBK, and Elysa V, who all got four yeses during the first round of auditions.

RTL CBS Entertainment: What Makes A Winning Mentor At The X Factor UK?

Success isn’t always solely about talent or hard work. For aspiring singers at The X Factor UK, winning is also a matter of mentorship.
As mentors in their respective categories, judges play a huge part in guiding X Factor hopefuls from song selection to performance style ultimately so contenders can play the game to their strengths and win the crowd.
The UK’s most talked-about talent show has given us judges who’ve not only brought excitement to audiences worldwide for the past 13 seasons, but have also raised contestants to the top of the competition. Here we list down some of the crucial factors that set a winning mentor apart from the rest of the judging panel.

Firm, honest criticism
The truth may hurt, but an X Factor mentor must be willing to evaluate singing performance without watering down facts: vocal weaknesses, poor song choices, lack of originality, and strengths that can be honed and exploited. A little kindheartedness is always appreciated, though it shouldn’t get in the way of good, honest feedback when it’s needed.

An artist by their own right
Being an accomplished performer is an advantage that can give X Factor judges an edge when it comes to mentoring. Whether it’s about singing technique or the choreography, a top-charting artist with plenty of experience on stage and on camera would definitely have much to contribute to creating a performance worthy of a standing ovation.

Years in the music industry
A winning mentor doesn’t always have to be a singer to know what makes or breaks a performance. Years of working with recording artists and entertainers would allow an X Factor judge to build a wealth of knowledge needed to assess talent and help aspirants flourish as performers. A background in music production is definitely a plus.

Unwavering support
In a contest that stirs a lot of nerves, emotional support goes a long way to helping X Factor hopefuls feel confident in their talent as well as the hard work they’ve put in to advance in the competition. Filipina Singer Gaga Lord Impresses The X Factor UK Judges

Gaga Lord, 40, from the Philippines, impressed all four judges of The X Factor UK with her rendition of the James Bond theme Diamonds Are Forever sung by Shirley Bassey on the second episode of the show today. Gaga started her performance showcasing her full and brassy voice that immediately brought smiles to the judges’ faces. Simon raised his hand and stopped the audition quipping, “Right now, I feel like James Bond.” He then asked Nicole Scherzinger and (sitting in for Sharon Osbourne) guest judge Alesha Dixon to dance and pose with Gaga as if they were Bond girls.

The lady judges obliged and Gaga proceeded with her audition showing off her powerful voice while moving along with Nicole and Alesha. After the performance, Simon said, “That was it! We are in our own James Bond movie. That was amazing. You are fantastic. I love you. I absolutely love you.”

Judge Louis Walsh gushed, “You have a powerful voice and you are fun!”

Alesha said, “You’re a force of nature. You’ve got an amazing energy.” Nicole agreed and said, “You have a really big voice. Really robust.”

Before she began to sing, Louis asked her what the big dream was. Gaga Lord responded, “To be honest with you, sing in front of you. This is already a dream.”

Gaga Lord, her real name, is married and works as a dinner lady at a primary school. She says that the students there know that she loves to sing and they would often ask her to sing for them. She, however, did not tell them she would be auditioning for the competition.

Gaga Lord moves on to the next round of The X Factor UK.

What do One Direction, Little Mix, and 4th Impact have in common?

Before One Direction became a sensation, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson were solo acts who dreamt of stardom. The five then-aspiring singers auditioned at The X Factor UK’s seventh season, but while not all of them got three yeses, everyone managed to make it to second round.

At the end of the bootcamp stage, none of them qualified for the Boys category. Still, the judges saw the talent in the five aspirants and gave them the chance to compete as a group.

With Simon Cowell as their mentor, the five had to prove themselves worthy of advancing in the competition. But earlier on the day of the Judge’s House stage, Tomlinson suffered from a sea urchin sting. Nervous and with Tomlinson just making it in time from the hospital, the band covered the song “Torn” at Cowell’s home in Marbella, Spain. It was at this moment that The X Factor judge saw their potential as artists.

“My head, it’s saying it’s a risk and my heart it’s saying that you deserve a shot,” Simon said as he was giving his verdict. “I’ve gone with my heart. You’re through.”

One Direction, as the boys came to be known, finished third at The X Factor UK. But despite not winning the top prize, the group still has one of most inspiring stories at the talent contest.

Many other artists like 1D did not win The X Factor UK. And yet, they found themselves on a life-changing journey as they strove for success.

Here are other extraordinary artists who started out at The X-Factor UK:

Little Mix

Long before the hit single “Secret Love Song” gave everyone an earworm, the girl group Little Mix competed at The X-Factor UK and won—the only group to ever win the competition so far. Like One Direction, the group’s members started out as solo acts.

On their first public performance, the girls did a rendition of “Super Bass,” which was praised by The X Factor judge Louis Walsh for its “brilliant chemistry.” For that performance, fellow judge Gary Barlow described the group as the “best girl band that’s ever been on The X Factor.”

Leona Lewis

After her beautiful rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” at her audition, 21-year old receptionist Leona Lewis was described by Walsh as having “the complete package.” In one of her bootcamp performances, her would-be mentor Cowell said that Lewis is of a “totally different league.” She eventually won The X Factor UK’s third season.

Among her most memorable hits are “Bleeding Love” and “Better in Time” from the album Spirit.

4th Impact

Sisters Almira, Celina, Irene, and Mylene Cercado from the Philippines already joined and won several contests in the Philippines before auditioning for The X Factor UK. Their rendition of Jessie J’s “Bang Bang” earned them a standing ovation from the audience and all four judges.

The group’s would-be mentor Cheryl Fernandez-Versini told the girls that they “took the Wembley’s roof off,” while Cowell thought their audition was one of the best he had ever seen. Their audition went viral after it aired. Though 4thImpact did not make it to the finals, it was a dream come true for the sisters who’ve always wanted to perform for Cowell.
