The Sound of Music

Be enchanted by the world’s beloved musical as Resorts World Manila brings back The Sound of Music starting October 15, 2011 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater; featuring a powerhouse cast of theater veterans and most promising newcomers guaranteed to beguile you in this timeless tale of love.
Based on a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, a musical by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, The Sound of Music showcases the story of Maria Rainer, a young postulant appointed as governess over the seven children of widower Captain Georg von Trapp. Maria takes on the role of a mother to her charges, teaches them the art of music and singing, and captivates the heart of the once cold and stern captain.
The Sound of Music Cast:

Joanna Ampil as Maria Rainer
London’s West End actress Joanna Ampil will lead the roster of characters to play the vibrant and impressionable postulant, Maria Rainer, who will change the lives of the Trapp Family Singers. Having made countless international appearances in film and television, including Miss Saigon, Hair, and Les Miserables, Joanna’s performance as the new Maria is certainly something to look forward to.

Playing as Joanna Ampil's alternate is Cris Villonco. Fresh from her portrayal as Maria Clara of Noli Me Tangere, we will witness her talent as she transforms from being the shy Maria Clara to the free-spirited Maria Rainer.

Audie Gemora as Captain Georg von Trapp
Reliving the character of Austrian Navy Captain Georg von Trapp will be the “King of Philippine Theater.” Audie Gemora is currently the head of talent management of ABC channel 5. He will grace the stage as the unaffectionate widower and father of seven children, eventually falling in love with Maria.

Taking a breather from the corporate world to alternate for the male lead role will be Ed Feist, and Broadway actor and World Champion of Performing Arts 2006 Jon Joven.

Tanya Manalang as Liesl von Trapp
Tanya Manalang brings life into the character of Liesl, alternated by Rachel Coates. While going through the challenges of first love, witness the eldest daughter of Captain von Trapp as she performs her own version of Sixteen Going on Seventeen.

Paolo Ocampo as Friedrich von Trapp
Playing as the fourteen-year old quiet son of the captain is Paolo Ocampo. Also alternating for the role as Friedrich von Trapp is Luis Nieto.

Rebecca Coates as Louisa von Trapp
With Danielle Sanghio as the able alternate, Rebecca Coates will be portraying the role of Louisa von Trapp, the thirteen-year old daughter who often plays tricks on Maria and pretends to be her other sisters.

Anton Posadas as Kurt von Trapp
Kurt von Trapp is the eleven-year old outspoken son who always questions Maria. Giving justice to the role will be Anton Posadas, with alternates Roberto Sison and Justin Sian.

Atasha Muhlach as Brigitta von Trapp
Sharing the role with Janina Punzalan and Alessandra Allado, Atasha Muhlach, daughter of veteran actor Aga Muhlach and former beauty queen Charlene Gonzales, will be under the spotlight as the sharp-witted Brigitta von Trapp.

Alida Moberg as Marta von Trapp
The role of Marta will be portrayed by Alida Moberg, with alternates Paula Therese Zamesa and Sofia Yabyabin. Marta is the sixth and very shy von Trapp child who will be the first to like Maria.

Alexa Villaroel as Gretl von Trapp
With alternate Shanti Gleason, Alexa Villaroel will portray the charming daughter of Captain von Trapp. Gretl is also the youngest among the seven children.

A Purposeful Morning

When I woke up this morning lying in bed,
I was asking myself , what are some of the secrets of happiness in life?
I found the answer right there, in my very room.

The fan said                 -        Be cool
The roof said                -       Aim high
The window said          -       See the world
The clock said               -       Every minute is precious
The mirror said             -       Reflect before you act
The calendar said         -       Be up-to-date
The door said                -      Push hard for your goals

And not to forget . . . .

The carpet said             -          Kneel down and Pray.

Carry a Heart that Never Hates.

Carry a Smile that Never Fades.

Carry a Touch that Never Hurts.

We Live, Laugh, Love .

That's a happy purposeful day !
