Cost-Effective, High Capacity, Low Power Drive Validated in WD’s Real-World Hadoop® Environment; also Ideal for SMB and Mid-Sized NAS Deployments
WD®, a Western Digital (NASDAQ: WDC) company and world leader for storage deployed in datacenters, today announced availability of its innovative WD Se™ line of hard drives, the first designed for scale-out datacenter deployments. Built on an enterprise-grade platform for reliable 24x7x365 datacenter operation, WD Se is tailored to deliver the right combination of performance, reliability and robustness for large-scale replicated environments, mid-sized network attached storage (NAS) deployment, and backup/archiving applications.

WD Se is a true enterprise-class drive with the right blend of affordability and capabilities to address the massive growth of semi-structured data, which is accelerating the scale-out of datacenters of all sizes. Now shipping in capacities up to 4 TB, the new WD Se hard drives enables customers to balance their data growth challenges in multi-drive enclosures without compromising enterprise-class features.
“Today’s cloud datacenter installations require a cost-effective way to build large-scale storage systems, while maintaining the 24x7 reliability necessary to minimize total cost of ownership,” said Richard E. Rutledge, senior vice president of WD’s datacenter storage business unit. “WD’s utilization of vast amounts of manufacturing and engineering data has forced us – like many other companies – to use map-reduce methodologies to effectively analyze our data. The WD Se hard drives are used in our own big datacenter, where we have gained real-world experience with Apache™ Hadoop®.”

WD Se drives also address the fast-growing SMB to mid-range network-attached storage (NAS) market. The robust enterprise-class design and higher workload capabilities for SMB-focused 6-bay-plus table-top NAS units and rack-mount multi-tenant NAS solutions with up to 24 bays, provide NAS integrators a complement to WD Red™ hard drives, which are for small NAS systems. WD’s other datacenter hard drives – WD Xe™ and WD Re™ – round out the high-end of the NAS market, offering higher durability and performance for large-scale rack-based NAS systems. Together, WD Se, WD Xe, WD Re and WD Red™ provide a total portfolio of robust storage devices to match every size and scale of NAS deployment.

In addition to undergoing at least 5,000,000 hours of functional and thermal testing and over 20,000,000 hours of additional testing under actual workloads in server and storage systems, WD’s Se hard drives feature:

Dynamic fly height technology where each read-write head’s fly height is adjusted in real time for optimum reliability.

Price and Availability

WD’s Se hard drives, shipping in capacities from 2 TB to 4 TB, (models: WD2000F9YZ, WD3000F9YZ, and WD4000F9YZ) are available through select distributors and resellers. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the WD Se hard drives range from PHP 7990 to PHP 14, 990. WD’s Se drives are covered by a five-year limited warranty. The first Philippine Bamboo Flag Museum was launched yesterday, June 11, at the Ayala Triangle in Makati as part of the city's celebration of the 115th Philippine Independence Day.
Led by Ayala Land under its Make It Makati: Make It Happen campaign. Makati 2013 Independence Celebration is a three-tiered event that is all in the same breath experiential, educational, and entertaining. Makati celebrates Philippine Independence with Philippine Bamboo Flag Museum - with bamboo, a sturdy and versatile material that is also uniquely Pinoy as its main instrument.
(From left)Ayala Land vice president Meann Dy, Ayala Land President Tony Aquino, Makati Representative Monique Lagdameo and National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chair Maria Serena Diokno led the unveiling of the first Philippine Bamboo Flag Museum June 11 at the Ayala Triangle, Makati City
Makati takes the lead in mounting a grand event to celebrate 115 remarkable years of Philippine Independence being one of its signature events. The country’s leading city highlights the admirable spirit of resiliency and optimism of the Filipinos and how we were able to rise from all challenges and adversities.

The Makati populace and even visitors from neighboring cities should look forward to a new art expression of the flag with the unveiling of the country’s first ever Philippine Bamboo Flag Museum. It is a structure that showcases images and vignettes from our nation’s rich history through a gallery exhibit entitled “Grass: Routes of a Nation.” QR codes could also be found on some of the exhibit panels that provide visitors an interactive way to know more trivia about bamboo not to mention the actual bamboo music instruments that are available inside, which kids and adults alike will surely enjoy.
Standing 5 ft tall and covering 50sqm area, the Philippine Bamboo Flag Museum is open to everyone and will be on display from June 11 until July 31.
The celebration also featured Filipino artistry at its finest entertaining the community with a variety of Philippine Cultural Shows by the Palihang Hagonoy, a dynamic organization committed to the propagation of Philippine art and culture. Young talented performers sang Lawiswis Kawayan, a famous Waray folk song and displayed their dancing prowess with Tinikling, Singkil, and Palo Sebo dance numbers. Guests were also treated with the traditional Balagtasan (Filipino poetry) that intrigued the audience on which is more beneficial, the Bamboo or the Coconut Tree?
The likewise musically gifted Banda Kawayan from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines graced the occasion and awed the audience with their one-of-a-kind musical performances using bamboo instruments.
Indeed, there is no denying that the Philippines is a country with rich history and admirable values. It is a nation that has been dealt with the most harrowing catastrophes and misfortunes, beset with social malady, and reeks with a long history of colonization, and yet the Philippines has overcome all of these to stand proud, free, and resilient.
For more fun and excitement, on June 15, to add to the grandness of the celebration, families, kids, and friends especially art enthusiasts can participate in the Independence Sketchfest activity, an on-the-spot sketching competition where exciting cash prizes and consolation prizes await the winners. To also promote Filipino sportsmanship and celebrate our being world-class, people should look forward to a giant chess installation at the lawn area of Ayala Triangle Gardens that will also be available to the public from June 11 to end of July. Exhibition games are slated for various universities where they will be joined by world renowned Filipino Chess Master himself, Eugene Torre.

Just as the Philippines is fast gaining momentum as an emerging leader in Asia, Makati has consistently asserted and solidified its reputation as the country’s leading city that makes it all happen, the perfect venue for a one-of-a-kind Independence Day celebration.

GOOGLE GREETS USERS WITH PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY DOODLE

One of the most significant dates in the Philippine’s history is Independence Day because it marks the nation’s independence from the Spanish rule on June 12, 1898. Filipinos celebrate it annually on June 12.

What do People do?

Independence Day is a day when many people, including government officials, employees, and students, participate in nationwide parades. However, the main highlight is the police and military parade in Manila headed by the country’s incumbent president, followed by a speech and a 21-gun salute. Many Filipinos spend the day in parks and malls. Many Filipino communities in other countries also observe the nation’s Independence Day celebrations.

Public life

The Philippine’s Independence Day is a national holiday so government offices are closed. There are absolutely no classes in all schools. Many business establishments are closed except shopping centers. Public transport such as buses, passenger jeeps, and tricycles still operate but their routes may be limited due to the closure of streets used for parades.

Background

The annual June 12 observance of Philippine’s Independence Day came into effect after past President Diosdado Macapagal signed the Republic Act No. 4166 regarding this matter on August 4, 1964. This Act legalized the holiday, which is based on the Declaration of Independence on June 12, 1898 by General Emilio Aguinaldo and Filipino revolutionary forces from the Spanish colonization. The Philippines’ flag was raised and its national anthem was played for the first time in 1898. However, liberty was short-lived because Spain and the United States did not recognize the declaration.

The 1898 Treaty of Paris ended the war between Spain and the United States. Spain surrendered the entire archipelago comprising the Philippines to the United States. The Philippines started a revolt against the United States in 1899 and achieved national sovereignty on July 4, 1946, through the Treaty of Manila. Independence Day was officially observed on July 4 until the Republic Act No. 4166, which set out to move the holiday to June 12, was approved on August 4, 1964.

Symbols

The Flag of the Republic of the Philippines, representing the country is symbolized by the following:

1. Royal blue field – peace, truth, and justice.
2. Scarlet red field – patriotism and valor.
3. White triangle – equality and brotherhood.
4. Three stars on the corners of the triangle – the three main geographical regions of the country namely Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
5. The sun at the center of the triangle – has eight rays representing the eight Philippine provinces that started the revolt against Spain.

The flag is seen in various places across towns and cities in the Philippines during the country’s Independence Day. Many cars also sport miniature flags on this day.

Make your tableware a trusted one, Melawares

I still  have some nice white dishware that we have received as gifts ( Wedding Gifts ) 25 years ago. But if some ocassions, especially Christmas and New Year Holidays season, I am looking for white dishes again in classic style.  I'd like to be sure they are safe to use and would be reasonably priced.

And one more, I always see that the products I choose to buy,  it would be made somewhere that has safety standards.

The use of plastic tableware for everyday dining has been widely accepted in many homes nowadays. At home or at fast food chains, plastic tableware is used every day, but how can you be very sure that it’s safe to use? It is recommended, however, that the use of plastic tableware should not be just any brand.

It has to be a trusted one—Melawares—for the sake of the family’s health and safety.
Melawares, one of the most trusted brands of tableware from CDC Manufacturing Corporation, knows the possible dangers of getting harmful chemicals in your food when using inferior-quality brands so CDC Manufacturing Corporation made sure that their melamine tableware are of premium quality and safe for the family. With over 30 years in the tableware business, Melawares has more than enough knowledge to develop quality melamine products the market needs.

This is some explanation of how Melawares different from other plastic tableware?

Melawares only uses imported and 100% “melamine” in making their tableware. Other plastic products may only be using “urea” as their raw material. The difference between the two materials is that when melamine sets, it doesn’t migrate or “contaminate” the food we eat, while urea mixes with food and may cause health hazards, particularly in the digestive and respiratory systems.

Melamine is an organic compound that is heat-resistant and durable. When turned into resin, it forms plastic typically used in tableware, utensils, and flooring. Urea, on the other hand, is a material of substandard quality and is vulnerable to stains, less durable and less heat resistant. For hot food, it will be a disadvantage and may cause substandard plastic tableware to chip or melt and become deformed.
It is understandable that people would opt for the most affordable products to use at home, but getting plastic tableware with no assurance of quality may pose risks for the family. Urea-based tableware is known to be cheaper than melamine-based products, but would you rather choose to go cheap just to save a few pesos if it would put your family’s health at risk? You’d probably end up spending more for hospital bills or medicine in the process.

So make sure to get only Melawares. The company made it a point to keep their products affordable without sacrificing quality. It is a rare feat nowadays to find household products manufactured in the Philippines accepted by consumers so CDC Manufacturing Corporation makes it a point to continue to innovate. The company will soon launch new and eco-friendly products, a testament to its innovative and visionary business and product development philosophy.

“We understand the discerning requirements of Filipinos when it comes to their tableware needs, which is why we continue to develop and design our products exclusively for them,” Ms. Chriselda Chua, Marketing Manager for CDC Manufacturing Corporation, said.

At present, CDC Manufacturing Corporation has four brands aside from Melawares, the classic brand that carries high-quality melamine tableware products. There is Bestware, Urban Kitchen, and Perfect Dining, and is also the leading manufacturer of customized dinnerware for Quick Service Restaurants serving some of the biggest names in the food industry.

Make your tableware melamine. Make it Melawares.
