Kids and their parents had the jolliest time at the Jollitown Kiddie Fair, held recently at the SMX Convention Center. The event served as the jolliest bonding experience for families, with its engaging learning activities, unique games and challenges, interactive shows, and all-day, all-around fun helping create special memories they’ll remember for a long time.

Jollibee has become a champion of joy for Filipino parents and kids throughout the years, and the Jollitown Kiddie Fair continues to give them more cherished moments. The event was opened by Jollibee’s brand ambassador, Jolina Magdangal Escueta, and her kids, Pele and Vika. She and her kids got to participate and have fun in all the event activities, while also getting interviewed about being a mother and brand ambassador.

Jolina shared her favorite Jollibee memories as a child and how she is recreating them with her kids Pele and Vika.

“I’m so excited to be here at the Jollitown Kiddie Fair, having fun with my kids,” said Jolina. “Time passes so quickly, so I make sure that I spend quality time and make meaningful memories with Pele and Vika every chance I get.

Yum, Hetty, Jollibee, Twirlie and Popo shared the joy with the kids and their families, and wowed them with a very energetic dance number.

The event offered activities where kids not only enjoyed with their friends, families, and fellow kids, but also engaged in unique family-friendly challenges that helped them learn along the way through creative play. Kids got a chance to make their own Jolly Spaghetti, Yumburger, and test their store manager skills in the MiniBee station as they had fun assembling delicious Jollibee food for their friends and parents. They also had the Party Palooza, which was an energetic all-day party celebration that had a whole host of games and activities that offered the full party experience.

The Jollitown Kiddie Fair also offered activities that challenged their skills, like the Chickenjoy Bucket Throw game where they tested their aim to win prizes, and avoided spaghetti-shaped wires in the Spag-o-wired game. Kids also solved different puzzles in the Jollitown Puzzle House, which was also a fun learning challenge and an interactive experience for kids of all ages. They also uncovered fun prizes in the Fry-nd The Treasure activity, while other kids tried to grab theirs at Yum’s Claw Machine.

Alongside the many activities and fun games, kids also got to watch an incredible set of shows happening on the main stage. This includes the bubble show where kids rushed to the stage to get closer to participate in blowing and popping bubbles. The magic show had jaw-dropping tricks that left kids in awe with each routine. The Dancing Balloon Show by Tectonix was also a highlight, as kids were dancing along to the music while being fascinated by the many balloon tricks.

Aside from the activities, parents and kids enjoyed delicious Jollibee food. This included sweet-sarap Jolly Spaghetti, which families enjoyed so much during the event. With delicious food and the jolliest activities, the Jollitown Kiddie Fair gave families moments to remember, and memories that they cherish together.

On October 20th, Lihim Resorts, El Nido hosted a unique event where indigenous peoples from the Batak, Cuyonon, and Tagbanua tribes had the opportunity to share their culinary traditions with Chef de Cuisine Nickson Valmeo.

Having recently signed a benchmark memorandum of agreement between The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and Araw Hospitality Group, the collaboration aimed to bridge cultural gaps, promote inclusivity, and celebrate the rich heritage of the indigenous communities in Palawan. Lihim Resorts, El Nido invited the indigenous peoples to participate in a menu-sharing experience, giving them the chance to showcase their traditional dishes while learning international culinary techniques from Chef de Cuisine Nickson Valmeo.

During the event, the indigenous peoples were extended VIP treatment, enjoying a complimentary lunch and drinks while actively engaging with the resort's culinary experts. EpiC FREE TO BE U Campaign Launches Inspiring Videos to fight HIV stigma

The FREE TO BE U campaign recently released The Positive Lifestyle, a series of powerful and inspiring videos designed to raise awareness about, foster empathy for, and help empower people living with HIV (PLHIV). The FREE TO BE U Campaign recognizes that a key component in the fight against HIV stigma is not just knowledge, but empathy. 

Through these videos, the campaign is dispelling misconceptions, promoting acceptance, and encouraging viewers to connect to PLHIV as they share their personal stories. Most importantly, once conversations around HIV are no longer stigmatized, people can freely access HIV services through tools. The videos are available on the campaign’s Facebook and Youtube accounts.

“We are excited to announce the release of these eleven entertaining yet enlightening videos. We hope that they can make an impact in eradicating stigma around HIV in the country, as well as educate the public about the everyday lives of people living with HIV,” said Teresita Marie Bagasao, Project Director of the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project.

One of the videos features Drag Den Philippines Winner NAIA (@naiablack_ on IG) talking to Jabar Esmael, a PLHIV advocate, while having their make-up done. Jabar talks about his experience right after learning he was HIV-positive and what made him decide to get treatment. Another video shows how a person living with HIV can maintain a healthy lifestyle and adhere to treatment via proper nutrition in a fun, cooking show setting.

By developing these videos, FREE TO BE U seeks to promote acceptance and inclusivity, break stereotypes, and shift the narrative when it comes to people living with HIV. Each video provides unique perspectives on the daily lives of people living with HIV, revealing marginalized people whose voices need to be heard and whose days are filled with challenges, but also beauty and fun.

Teresita Marie Bagasao added, “This initiative not only shows the realities of people living with HIV, but it also promotes QuickRes.org, an online booking application for HIV services in the country. It is not enough that we normalize conversations about HIV. We also need to provide information about access points for free HIV services.”

QuickRes is an online booking application where anyone can easily book an appointment for HIV and sexual health services using their smartphone, tablet, or laptop. It is a global platform brought by the campaign here in the Philippines, with the country being the top user globally within a year.

The FREE TO BE U campaign was launched in 2022 by the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH) Healthy Pilipinas . EpiC is led by FHI 360 and funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).This partnership kicked off last February during the Festival of Love event. The campaign has also organized the QUILTS Awards — which honors health facilities and partner organizations that have provided exceptional care and treatment to people living with HIV— for the past two years.

Content creators and celebrities often share their daily dose of comical skits, life hacks, and shopping ‘budols.’ But aside from spreading entertainment, some of them also took immediate action to help protect netizens’ hard-earned money from being stolen through fun and educational videos.

Top social media stars partnered with leading finance super app GCash to help spread awareness on e-wallet phishing scams, one of the most rampant cybercrimes in the country.

●       Joshua Garcia and the different e-wallet phishing scams

GCash endorser Joshua Garcia takes the helm in spreading awareness in social media, sharing how e-wallet phishing scams could come in the form of 1) fake portals in non-PAGCOR accredited gambling sites, 2) fraudsters who claim to be from GCash saying your account is on hold, and 3) fake rewards.

●       Spotting the red flags with Saab Magalona, Chinkee Tan and Ayn Bernos

Red flags are warning signs that may indicate unhealthy relationships, but they also extend to every day, seemingly-harmless messages that might end up as scams. Through witty yet educational skits and reminders, singer-podcaster Saab Magalona, financial guru Chinkee Tan, and writer-entrepreneur Ayn Bernos, also shared three red flags that could help users spot each of the e-wallet phishing scams.

However, she reminds everyone in her video: “Alam kong mahilig kang ma-fall, pero wag sa scam.”

Everyone has that one ‘bida-bida’ friend. Social media personality Pipay recreates this scenario as a third wheel, ultimately reminding netizens why sharing too much information is never a good thing, especially when it’s your personal information at stake.

●       AC Soriano and staying secure under pressure

Dubbed the ‘multi-dogshow superstar’ for impersonating celebrities, AC stages a ‘fast talk’ segment to remind us not to share our sensitive information such as MPIN and OTP even when put under pressure.

Spot Red Flags, Don’t Overshare

As different content creators showed, it is important to be constantly aware of phishing scams as cybercriminals have been increasingly creative to remain unsuspicious. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

●       Think before clicking a link. Review the sender and the content of a suspicious message even before responding or clicking on the link. If you are being offered rewards or prizes, backtrack if you have indeed joined a program or raffle and verify with the company through another channel.  Remember that GCash will never send links via SMS, email and messaging apps, so never click on links claiming to be from GCash.

●       Only transact through your GCash app. GCash will never ask you to activate your account through a phone call or through messaging applications. All transactions are only done through the official GCash app, including resolving concerns related to your account. If a notice feels rushed, it’s most likely a phishing scam! Check your account through the GCash app first to confirm if it is indeed on hold and don’t share your MPIN and OTP to anyone – even those who claim to be from GCash.

●       Carefully read the text messages that come with an OTP. If you receive an OTP through text message, make it a habit to read the entire message and make sure that it matches the request you made. If you did not make the request or if it is different from what you want to do, do not enter your OTP on any site or send it to anyone, to make sure you are not unknowingly linking your account to another device.

●       Never share your OTP and MPIN. Never provide your personal information if you did not initiate a request. As a rule, don’t provide sensitive information, such as your OTP and MPIN, even to your family, friends and other people claiming to be representatives of banks, companies, service providers, and government agencies. Remember that GCash will never ask for these details from you.

As trusted e-wallet apps like GCash work to ensure that the tools we use for our everyday financial transactions are fortified with security measures, it is also essential that e-wallet users play their part in keeping their personal information safe and out of reach by cybercriminals. As all of the content creators remind netizens, whatever the circumstance, never share your MPIN and OTP!
