Globe, Pinas Forward educate over 2,000 students on cybersafety

With the rising risks and dangers of the online world, Globe partnered with social movement Pinas Forward (PF) to guide students around the country on ways to protect themselves from numerous threats posed by the Internet.

Just this past month, over 2,000 students joined Pinas Forward’s free webinar E-ligtas: Blocking The Dangers of the Online World. It is part of Pinas Forward’s goal to build a nation led by a new generation of leaders who are inspiring, intelligent, digitally aware, and driven towards positive change.

“By spreading awareness on these threats, how they might present, and what actions to take, we are not only protecting our audience but also the most vulnerable links in the chain such as children and minors, among others,” said Shai Laman, Project Manager of Pinas Forward.

Apple Evangelista, Globe Head for Sustainability and Social Responsibility added, “By working together with like-minded organizations such as Pinas Forward, we hope to equip the public with the knowledge to keep themselves safe from online perils, especially at this time when we are very dependent on digital tools for work, learning, and entertainment.”

The webinar aimed to help the youth recognize potentially unsafe online situations and behaviors and equip them with the knowledge they need to combat these threats.

It also tackled teenage pregnancy brought about by online activities and irresponsible or uninformed dating app usage, cyberbullying, dealing with poser accounts, and catfishing.

Through its #makeITsafePH campaign, Globe aims to help the public remain safe from cybersecurity threats that put multi-million-peso businesses at risk and cyber attacks on individual accounts such as identity theft, fraud and hacking, among others.

Through workshops and e-modules under its Digital Thumbprint Program, Globe educates teachers, parents, and students about digital citizenship and responsibility. Key topics include online safety and security, etiquette and responsibility, critical thinking, and digital empowerment.

Aside from education and information dissemination, Globe supports government’s initiatives to fight online child pornography with a $2.7 million investment in a content filtering system.

At the same time, the company provides digital platforms such as the Toll-free Bantay Bata (#163), and mental health support facilities - Toll-free HopeLine, KonsultaMD, and HealthNow.

Globe also invests in local and international partnerships for its child protection advocacy. They include Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (CCCP). There is also support for the #SaferKidsPH campaign which looks to maximize awareness on protection measures when it comes to Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC).

The company strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9, which highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development, and UN SDG 17, which highlights the value of partnerships in achieving sustainable development goals. Globe is committed to upholding the United Nations Global Compact principles and contributing to 10 UN SDGs.

DURAN DURAN RELEASES MORE MUSIC FROM THE FORTHCOMING ALBUM - LISTEN TO THE NEW SINGLE ‘ANNIVERSARY’

Duran Duran share the anthemic ‘ANNIVERSARY’, produced by the band along with British DJ/producer, Erol Alkan and the third song taken from their fifteenth studio album, ‘FUTURE PAST’, set for global release on October 22 via TAPE MODERN for BMG. Pre-order/save/add HERE.

ANNIVERSARY’ is Duran Duran at their exhilarating best and continues to show why they’re still one of the most exciting and progressive bands on the planet. Celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, the song is sure to be a massive live favorite. Listen HERE.

Speaking from London, where they are rehearsing for a string of upcoming dates, Duran Duran bassist and founder member John Taylor said today:

“Anniversary is a special song for us. Obviously, we were conscious of our own impending 40th anniversary of making music together, but we wanted the song’s meaning to be inclusive in the broadest possible way.

After playing and working together for so long, we very much appreciate what ‘being together’ and ’staying together can really mean, it’s not something we would have thought song worthy 40 years ago but we do today! It was also fun to build a track with hints of previous Duran hits, they’re like Easter eggs, for the fans to find.”

The internationally acclaimed, multi-platinum, award-winning pop legends recently announced two intimate performances in their hometown of Birmingham, at the O2 Institute on 14th and 15th September 2021. The band will also be playing at the upcoming Global Citizen LIVE on September 25.

Enrolling the help of some of the most exciting names of the last 50 years, with ‘FUTURE PAST’ Duran Duran has delivered yet another incredible genre-spanning piece of work that once again sets them apart from the pack. Working alongside British DJ / producer Erol Alkan and pioneering Italian composer / producer Giorgio Moroder, the band has enlisted the help of some of the most unexpected and inspiring names in pop - including multi-platinum Swedish hit-maker Tove Lo, ‘Queen of Drill’ Ivorian Doll, and Japan’s CHAI on ‘MORE JOY!’.  In addition, Blur’s Graham Coxon co-wrote and lends his guitar to several tracks on the record, and David Bowie’s former pianist Mike Garson adds an exquisite sonic layer to album closer ‘FALLING’. The record, which was recorded across studios in London and LA over lockdown, also features long-time collaborator Mark Ronson who co-wrote and played on ‘WING’, and was mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent.

Earlier this year, Duran Duran captivated American audiences with their spellbinding performance at the Billboard Music Awards where they debuted their single ‘INVISIBLE’ as well as classics, ‘Notorious’ and ‘Hungry Like The Wolf,’ (WATCH).

FUTURE PAST will be available on all digital platforms, as well as in a variety of physical formats: standard CD, cassette, a limited edition deluxe hardback book CD featuring three additional tracks, and colored vinyl.

Shell's RestART aims to rebuild dreams through art, Shell's long-running student art competition call for entries nationwide

From last year's "Hope in Our Art" creations that depict hope through art, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation's Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) takes on an equally relevant theme this year – restART, which encourages young artists to come up with art works that inspire and contribute to a stronger and better country.

As Pilipinas Shell’s unwavering commitment to Philippine art, we introduce Juan Art Nation, a campaign that aims to broaden programs for our growing community of artists, through the 54th edition of Shell NSAC, one of the most prestigious art competitions in the Philippines for more than five decades. The 54th Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) is one of the longest-running student art competitions in the country. It is one of the programs under JUAN ART NATION which enables the youth and art community to convey their imagination into a tangible art form and serve as inspiration for Filipinos.

Recognizing the importance of art as a guide to the future, PSPC President and CEO Cesar Romero, said that “we encourage the youth to actively take part in shaping the future of the Philippines, using art as tool and guide. Shell is committed to help shape the country’s leaders of tomorrow; we therefore ask the youth to continue to bring inspiration through art and use that as a platform to keep the Philippines moving forward.”

Participants need to bring forth their dreams, ideas, unique perspectives, and novel insights and foresights through art.

They get to choose from various art categories, including: Oil/Acrylic, Watercolor, Sculpture, and Digital Fine Arts.

Shell's NSAC, which last year saw the participation of 1,500 art hopefuls, has been an enabler for artists to showcase their talent and vision, producing established artists like abstract National Artist of the Philippines awardee Jose Joya, expressionist painter Ang Kiukok, applied sculpture practitioner Leeroy New, realistic oil painter Ivan Roxas., and National Artist for Visual Arts Benedicto "BenCab" Cabrera.

Winners of the 54th Shell NSAC can win these prizes:

  • FIRST PRIZE: Php60,000 cash, a limited Shell NSAC shirt and jacket, a gold medal, and a plaque
  • SECOND PRIZE: Php40,000 cash, a limited Shell NSAC shirt and jacket, a silver medal, and a plaque
  • THIRD PRIZE: Php30,000 cash, a limited Shell NSAC shirt and jacket, a bronze medal, and a plaque.

The deadline for entries is on October 1, 2021. Winners will be announced through a virtual awarding ceremony via Zoom on November 24, 2021.

ABS-CBN acquires rights to produce local adaptation of South Korea's "Flower of Evil", stars with Piolo Pascual and Lovi Poe

Ultimate heartthrob Piolo Pascual and new Kapamilya star Lovi Poe will play husband and wife in the local adaptation of the hit Korean thriller romance drama series.

ABS-CBN Entertainment will produce the local adaptation of South Korean thriller drama "Flower of Evil” after acquiring the rights from content production companies CJ ENM Co., Ltd. and Studio Dragon Corporation to adapt the hit series for Filipino viewers.

The Philippine version will feature multi-awarded actors Piolo Pascual and Lovi Poe in the lead roles as husband and wife, who were originally played by Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won.

An irresistible mix of drama, romance, thrill, and action, “Flower of Evil” follows a man who changes his identity in order to hide his dark past, successfully maintaining his disguise by building a happy family with his police detective wife. But when she starts investigating an unsolved serial murder case that might be tied to him, she must deal with the reality that her perfect husband might not be who she thinks he is.

“Flower of Evil” enjoyed high ratings in South Korea when it premiered on tvN, CJ ENM's leading total entertainment channel, in 2020. The series continued to gain popularity in other countries for its nail-biting plot twists and remarkable performances after becoming available internationally through various streaming platforms.

The local adaptation of “Flower of Evil” will be Lovi’s first Kapamilya teleserye after signing with ABS-CBN this week, and Piolo’s first after 2018’s “Since I Found You.”

Watch out for Piolo and Lovi in the Philippine adaptation of “Flower of Evil,” which will be produced by Dreamscape Entertainment, soon on ABS-CBN platforms.
