Chef Donita Rose shares her Jolly Heart Mate recipes at the Sinulog Festival 2017

Donita Rose for Jolly Canola Heartmate

Cebu City, Philippines – The rewarding experience of sharing a feast is just one of the many perks of cooking especially for Filipinos, and Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil ambassador Chef Donita Rose happily shares her passion in cooking at the last stop of her Regional Festival Tour in the Sinulog Festival.

Celebrating through colorful dance rituals and processions to recall the Filipino’s paganism and the recognition of their Christianity, Sinulog became one of the grandest and most renowned festival in the country that is being held every third Sunday of January. And to add more colors to the festival in Cebu, Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil is proud to bring Chef Donita Rose for a live cooking demo show during the hype of the festival.

The celebrity chef, together with Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil, is currently on a series of festival cooking demos around the country. And as part of the last leg of her nationwide tour, a cooking extravaganza at SM City Cebu Event Center was held recently.

Chef Donita prepared Popiah, a vegetable spring roll that is very famous in Cebu with an added twist to the recipe using her cooking techniques and unique fresh ingredients from the Queen City of the South.

“The Cebuanos, with their wide array of food cuisines, really love to eat particularly during the week-long festival of Sinulog. Our culture is practically centered on food which brings families closer, so we should also be aware of how we prepare the food and what ingredients we use for the dishes that we serve,” said Donita.

Chef Donita also wants to help Cebuanos to prepare delicious dishes using their harvest, and making it heart healthy with the use of Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil.

“We must always be conscious that the ingredients we use should be good for the heart, like Jolly Heart Mate Canola oil which contains the lowest amount of bad fats (saturated fats) but packs in the good kind like omega 3 and 6,” Donita shared.

Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil also contains Vitamin A and has a pale golden color, light texture, and neutral taste that makes it good for all kinds of cooking. Aside from being versatile, it also has one of the highest smoking points which make it very ideal for frying.

“We are very happy that Donita continues to be the brand ambassador of Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil; she easily connects well with her audience given her lively personality. Her passion for cooking can be easily seen, and we believe that she can inspire others to live a healthy lifestyle by using a healthy oil like Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil in all the dishes we cook at home and especially in festivals such as the Sinulog,” added Zen Prudentino, Fly Ace Corporation Senior Product Manager for Jolly Heart Mate Canola oil.

After the last leg of her nationwide tour, Donita will continue to share her cooking tips and recipes through various events this year. For more information on Chef Donita’s next event with Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil, visit their facebook page on www.facebook.com/JollyHeartMat eCanolaOil.

Popiah Recipe

  • Veggie Filling

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 bulb/head Garlic (minced)
  • 1 Red Onion (small & minced)
  • 1/4 kg Ubod/Palm of Coconut (shredded or cut thin and soaked in water so it doesn’t turn orangey-brown)
  • 1 piece Carrot (shredded or cut thin)
  • 10 pieces Green Beans (small biased/diagonal cut)
  • 5 pieces of Shrimp (shelled, deveined and cut in half lengthwise)
  • 2 tbsp Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil
  • 2 tbsp Fish Sauce/Patis
  • Pepper (to taste)

Directions:
Sauté 1/2 head/few cloves of garlic for a few seconds. Add the onion and stir until translucent before adding rest of the veggies. Best cooked al dente or still slightly crunchy. Strain out any remaining liquid and let cool.

  • Fresh Wrapper

Ingredients:
  • 2 Medium Eggs
  • 1/2 Cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • Salt (pinch)
  • 1 tsp Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil

Directions:
Add dry ingredients to bowl and mix together. In a separate bowl, crack eggs (making sure that they're fresh and that no eggshells are left) and whisk with water before adding to dry ingredients, making sure that no lumps remain. In a heated non-stick pan, brush a small amount of canola oil on then use a ladle to spoon the batter onto pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on low heat just until batter sets then flip over to repeat. Transfer all wrappers onto a plate and let cool.

  • Sauce
Ingredients:
  • 1 tsp Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil
  • 1 head/bulb Garlic (minced)
  • 1 Bird’s Eye Chili/Siling Labuyo (way less spicy if seeds are removed)
  • 2-4 tbsp Peanuts (ground)
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • Salt (to taste)

 Directions:
Brush pan with a little canola oil.  Add peanuts and toast for a few seconds before adding garlic. Add the water and sugar and mix until sugar dissolves. Pour in soy sauce and then add in cornstarch, stirring constantly so that lumps do not form. When sauce thickens, remove from heat and season with salt to taste. Allow to cool and preferably transfer into a plastic squeeze bottle with a large nozzle to avoid clogging. If nozzle is too small, cut the top with scissors.

  • Assembly
Ingredients:
  • 2-4 tbsp Peanuts (ground)
  • Cilantro sprigs
  • Green Ice Lettuce
  • Spring Onion (chopped)

 Directions:
Place one wrapper on a flat surface. Lay one large leaf of the lettuce with its edge slightly past the edge of the wrapper. Using the squeeze bottle, squeeze a little of the sauce all over the lettuce. (This will ensure sauce isn’t absorbed by the wrapper, making it tear.) Add a handful of the filling near the edge of one side and top with a few pieces of shrimp, cilantro sprigs and some chopped spring onions. Fold over the shorter side of the wrapper to seal in ingredients. Roll over and try to keep it tight without tearing the wrapper. Transfer onto a serving plate and add some extra sauce and peanuts on top. Best eaten fresh and of course, shared with friends and loved ones.

FOX PH presents strong program lineup with hit shows premiers this February

PHILIPPINES – February proves to be an extremely exciting month for FOX Philippines as the channel announces the premiere of several hit US television series.

Several FOX shows are returning to the channel in February, including The Walking Dead, Billions, and WWE’s wrestling programs, while new shows Legion and 24: Legacy are set to bring more prestige to an already strong lineup.

To promote this huge boost in programming, FOX is teaming up with Philippine escape room game Breakout to host an experience called FOXtreme Breakout, which will bring elements of these shows closer to viewers in a unique escape room challenge that will run from February 9 to 12 at Uptown Mall in Bonifacio Global City.

The new and returning television shows that will be premiering this month on FOX all have day & date telecasts and are based on exciting, adrenaline-pumping content. Legion is based on a Marvel comic book that follows the life of David Haller, who is diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder and soon discovers that he’s a powerful mutant—probably one of the most powerful that’s ever lived. Starring Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast, Downton Abbey), this 10-episode limited series premieres in the US on February 8 and in the Philippines on FOX on February 9 at 8 PM.

Another exciting release on FOX is 24: Legacy, a spin-off of the hit TV show 24. The series stars Corey Hawkins and Miranda Otto and follows the story of Eric Carter, an ex-Army Ranger who is being sought by a terrorist group and tries to stop one of the largest attacks to potentially happen in the US. This heart-stopping 12-episode series will show exclusively on FOX and premiere in the US on February 5, with a Philippine premiere on February 6 at 8 PM.

Meanwhile, the highly successful series The Walking Dead returns to FOX on February 13 in the Philippines at 11:35 AM simultaneously with the US, with an 8:55 PM replay for viewers in the evening. This mid-season premiere continues the explosive Season 7 of the zombie apocalypse-based show. Billions is also returning to FOX for its 13-episode second season, premiering on February 20 at 9:50 PM exclusively on the channel.

FOX is also the Philippines’ Home of Wrestling, with its wide roster of WWE titles such as Raw, SmackDown, and Royal Rumble. On February 14, FOX’s local production Wrestling Gods adds to the channel’s testosterone-fueled wrestling mania when it premieres at 9:50 PM.

Viewers can also experience all these great shows on FOX up close by joining the FOXtreme Breakout challenge at the Ground Floor of Uptown Mall in Bonifacio Global City from February 9 to 12. The channel teamed up with premier escape room game Breakout to create a series of interconnected rooms that each emulate the look and feel of the shows premiering in February on the channel. Teams of four will have about 20 minutes to finish going through the experience, in which they’ll have to fish a key off a “walker” in The Walking Dead room; take on shooting challenges in the 24: Legacy room; play a tough game of rock-paper-scissors with five big wrestlers in the WWE room; test their sanity while going through a mirror maze in the Legion room; and claim their prizes in the Billions room.

FOXtreme Breakout is a fun way for viewers to immerse themselves in FOX’s newest and most-loved shows as well as win prizes. Participants can form teams of four and register online at www.breakout.com.ph to reserve a slot and enjoy the game for free.

Charo Espedido, Director and Head of Content & Marketing at FOX Networks Group Philippines, said, “The addition of new shows like Legion and 24: Legacy along with the return of hit shows like The Walking Dead, Billions, and our favorite WWE programs to FOX make it clear that we are determined to deliver the most exciting, action-packed US entertainment content to our viewers. We’re excited to share these shows and engage with FOX’s viewers at the FOXtreme Breakout game in Uptown Mall this month so that we can whet their appetites for the amazing shows they’ll see on their TV screens soon.”

THE FOXtreme Breakout will run in Uptown BGC from February 9 to 12, 2017.

World Class Pump Track

The Bike Playground holds the distinction of being the first signature covered asphalt pump track exclusively designed for Circulo Verde by bemedalled cyclist and international designer Claudio Caluori under his Velosolutions company.

Swiss-born designer Claudio discovered his passion for mountain biking at a young age and went on to ride competitively from the late 1990s. While serving as team manager for Gstaad-Scott, a World Championships winning team of riders, Claudio started building world-class pump tracks, pump parks, and downhill trails all over the world. “There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing the children’s smiles during their first laps on a pump track we just built,” says Caluori.

Among the world-class tracks Velosolutions has built can be found in Thailand, Indonesia, Canada, Switzerland and New York, USA. The Bike Playground at Circulo Verde will become part of that roster.

Outdoor Track

Aside from the signature asphalt pump track, The Bike Playground features an outdoor trail that will provide the full biking experience for riders of all ages. The trail will cater to all skill levels and all types of bicycles from mountain bikes and road bikes to BMX and Cyclocross.

“Being in the middle of the city, The Bike Playground at Circulo Verde is a good venue for those who want to try biking and to those who want to squeeze in their biking time before or after work," shares Parabanne Mendoza, international award-winning Philippine mountain biker, track builder, and Fox Athlete.
Definitely, cycling rookies and athletes alike will derive joy and exhilaration from every stunt executed and every trail navigated.
