Meet the Voices of a Generation

Joining us at Pokeverse are two of the most iconic figures in Pokémon history— Veronica Taylor, the beloved original voice actress of Ash Ketchum, and Jason Paige, the original singer of the Pokémon theme song "The Voice of a Generation,".

During a recent press conference with the Philippine media, Veronica shared her journey and excitement about Pokeverse:
“I was working on another anime called Slayers, in English, and it just happens that the people who cast me in that were doing the casting for Pokémon. So, I auditioned for it and there were many callbacks and I happened to get the role. It was uncertain at first if I was going to keep it, and it just kind of went on and on. It's one of the most challenging and joyful roles I've ever had. I love playing Ash; he was this ten-year-old boy full of courage and positivity. It really changed my life because I think I took positivity for granted before this. Now, I realize how important it is. I get to travel to Comic-Cons all over the world because people love Pokémon. There's something about Pokémon that people just love and identify with, and luckily, I can be the bridge between their childhood and their memories. It’s such an honor to be a part of people's lives in this way. I'm looking forward to Pokeverse and meeting everyone!"

Jason Paige reflected on the significance of his contribution to the Pokémon legacy:
“It wasn't until the release of Pokémon Go that people became really interested in who actually sang the Pokémon theme song. The song changed my life, especially in 2016 when Pokémon Go came out. I popped out of the Pokéball and greeted the adults who were children when it first came out. The children didn't really know who sang the song; it was only important that the song moved them. It's like a great piece of art—you don't think about who painted it, you just experience it. The Pokémon song became so popular that it was voted to the top 200 songs of all time in the Netherlands. It's incredible to be recognized alongside some of the greatest musicians in history."

Kirck Allen, one of the lead producers of the Pokeverse Expo, in partnership with Hobby Stadium, Arken, and more, explains,
"We've had brilliant Pokémon-themed events in the country before, but Pokeverse is the first Pokémon-themed expo of its kind. It distinguishes itself from previous conventions and meet-ups by its unprecedented scale, design, and comprehensive offerings. We’re also thrilled to have Veronica Taylor and Jason Paige as guests for our event—something that is a dream come true for most fans."
He continues,
"From our innovative map and business model to our partnerships with official licensed distributors and the themed activities we have in store, we aim to produce an event like no other. Unlike typical conventions, which might focus on specific aspects like community, fan art, and cosplay, Pokeverse spans three days, encompassing these elements while capturing the childhood essence every Pokémon fan, from children to adults, is looking for."
"The event will feature a comprehensive museum with vintage Pokémon products, competitive competitions themed towards the Pokémon IP, and a line-up of local celebrities reigniting their passion and sharing their journey with the brand. Our goal is to create an inclusive environment where true Pokémon fans can fully immerse themselves in the world of their favorite brand in real life."
A Deep Dive into Pokémon's Legacy

Did you know that Pokémon is the world's highest-grossing media franchise, surpassing heavyweights like Mickey Mouse, Harry Potter, Mario, Barbie, and Star Wars combined? Pokémon has a brand recall of over 2 billion fans represented in 183 countries. From video games and TV shows to trading cards and movies, Pokémon has evolved into a cultural phenomenon that continues to captivate fans across the globe.

While Pokeverse maintains no official affiliation with The Pokémon Company and its subsidiaries, this event is made possible through partnerships with licensed Pokémon distributors in the country, including leading hobby shops like Hobby Stadium and Arken, Pokémon collectors, judges, exhibitors, and sponsors such as Philippine Airlines, MINISO, Toy Kingdom, Serenitea, The Manila Times, Business Insight, XOVOX Labs, DIY Bakery, Frigga Charmed Life, Kaloscope, and many more.

Join us at Pokeverse for a memorable weekend where you can meet your favorite Pokémon icons, participate in engaging activities, and celebrate your love for Pokémon with fellow enthusiasts. This event is a tribute to the nostalgic childhood memories of Pokémon, generously organized by the Philippine Feng Shui queen herself, Marites Allen, and her son Kirck Allen and the whole Pokeverse team.

Artist Ginny Guanco's Third Exhibition “Her World” Presents The Mysteries Of Women

Artist Ginny Guanco presents her third solo exhibition, Her World, which opens to the public on March 17 and will run until March 22, 2024.

Through a sophisticated interplay of vibrant hues, bold, evocative strokes, and an intuitive painting technique in her stunning portraits, Ginny Guanco masterfully unveils feminine power, its captivating mystery, and the beautiful nuances of womanhood in her third solo show aptly titled, Her World.

From the tender age of 8, Guanco's artistic journey found its roots in a fascination with the female form. Sketching silhouettes of women in fashionable dresses and crafting expressive profiles, her early dedication and focus in childhood paved the way for her formal training in Fine Arts at the University of Sto. Tomas. Further studies in the United States in painting and watercolor added greater depth to her artistic repertoire. However, it was under the tutelage of the late Salvacion Lim Higgins, Haute Couture designer par excellence and co-founder of Slim’s Fashion & Art School, that Ginny honed her creative eye and refined her sketching skills, laying down the expert groundwork for her artistic voice.

Guanco kept her mind and hands busy, dabbling in art over the years. But it was only in 2016 that she seriously embraced her calling as an artist. Transitioning from media, then a PR career, which she held for over 18 years, she embarked on a personal odyssey, resulting in her inaugural solo show, Boho Chic, in 2016—a fusion of fashion illustration and human anatomy. This was then followed by her second “virtual” exhibit, Festival, which was an uplifting and inspiring collection that she created to counter the heavy emotions of the pandemic.

This 2024, Guanco marks a triumphant return with Her World. Described as "aggressive and bolder," this collection signifies her liberation from creative constraints, manifesting in 26 paintings that chronicle her evolution as an artist. “Here, I’m no longer held back and afraid to go out of the box,” she beams.
Ginny Guanco with some of her Women paintings for “Her World.” This is her 3rd solo exhibition.

One can still see the distinct touch and personaty of Guanco through her works - bright, joyful colors, intricate designs, and thoughtful details. All these signature elements persist in her experimental use of oil pastel. watercolor, acrylic, brush pens and Sharpie pens. However, one can more deeply appreciate the evolution of her style, which now boasts a newfound confidence, freedom, and power – certainly the rewards of her courageous introspection over the years.

“In her day-to-day life, a woman wears many hats – a mother, a homemaker, a housewife, an executive, a creative, etc. But despite all these labels, she is not defined by them. She is more than all these roles. Women have greater depth and mystery, which I find truly fascinating,” Ginny shares.

Her World will be unveiled at Gateway Gallery Studio in Araneta City, March 16, 2024, coinciding with Women’s month. “Women empowerment has always been a recurring theme in my exhibits. When you express power, people often confuse this with being dominant and domineering. However, women are able to convey this power, while also retaining their femininity and inner strength. She knows what she wants and she knows what she’s capable of doing,” says Ginny.

Avida Land transforms South Park District with Interactive 3D Street Art

As February ushers in Arts Month, South Park District, a 6.6-hectare master planned community of residential and commercial developments transforms its vibrant community into an interactive canvas with 3D paintings unveiled on February 3.
Avida Land unveiled two newly created 3D paintings that will complement its existing art installations.

Complementing the district's existing art installations, these 3D paintings make the landscape a destination for creative exploration where art seamlessly blends with nature and home.

Among the talented artists who helped design and produce these latest paintings were John Mark Saycon, Neil Defeo, and Melanio Bulauitan III—members of Guhit Sudlungan, the winning team of visual artists who participated at the first 3D street painting competition mounted by Avida in 2011. For this year’s venture, the team collaborated with fellow artists Brian Defeo, Emil Aldrine Alarcon, Didier Marc Alarcon, Jefferson Malong, and Jervin Ferrer.

3D paintings are artworks that project an illusion of depth and three-dimensional space, elements that give them playful and eye-catching appeal.

3D paintings appear carved into the very ground itself, giving what is actually a two-dimensional image a sense of depth and tangibility against the surrounding landscape.

Tess Tatco, Avida Land’s Marketing Head, shares great excitement over the newest attractions in the place. “We’re proud to showcase once more the creative talents of local artists,” she says. “Come and visit South Park District to discover the joy and inspiration that visual art can bring.”

John Mark Saycon, on the other hand, says that he and his fellow artists were gratified to have another art collaboration with Avida Land. “Winning the first-ever 3D street painting competition in 2011 opened doors for us,” he enthuses. “We’re happy to have another shot at it in 2024.”

Melanio Bulautian III, on his part, recalls that he and his fellow artists were just students back then, excited to share their craft with the world. “Winning the competition got our names out there—an invaluable chance to introduce ourselves to the public and establish our names as artists. Over a decade later, we’re even more excited to once again share our art with Avida.”

Bring the district’s essence of “Part City. Part Nature. Pure South” to life, one 3D painting shows a lush flower garden with butterflies in the air. The production of this artwork was led by none other than Emil Aldrine Alarcon. Alarcon has had a multitude of successful exhibits through the years, with another one, titled “Rebirth,” to be mounted at Arte Bettina in February.

The second 3D painting showcases a green roundabout amid a cityscape. The production of this artwork was led by Neil Defeo, who is primarily known for his paintings in watercolor and oil. Defeo won the Vision Petron Awards in 2010 and 2016.
Neil Defeo led the production of the cityscape 3D painting.

Tatco stresses that the best way to enjoy 3D paintings is by seeing these up close. “This is why we invite everyone to get up close to these stunning works of art at South Park District in National Road, Alabang. Unleash your inner artist and capture great photos with your loved ones and friends.”

Property seekers who want to live a balanced life amidst the relaxing vibe of the South may visit the Avida Towers Ardane Showroom.

Avida Land Corp. is the upper mid-income residential brand of Ayala Land, the Philippines’ leading developer of sustainable estates offering a diverse mix of properties such as residential, retail, office, hotels, and leisure developments that support local economic growth and nation-building.

John Mark Saycon was one of the original winners of the first ever Avida 3D Street Painting Competition.

Two artists hard at work at making the brand new 3D paintings in the South Park District.

A talented team of artists worked hard to produce the new 3D painting featured in South Park District.

The team of artists used their work to explore the event’s theme, “Part City, Part Nature, Pure South.”

Even under the hot sun, the artists worked to bring these eye-catching pieces to life.

Some of the materials used to produce the 3D paintings at Avida South Park District.

3D painting requires a careful mastery of perspective from the artists at work.

Avida Land has been giving artists the chance to showcase their work on significant platforms.

A Climate Change Takes Center Stage in Southeast Asia’s Music Scene

Through the years, the diverse musical traditions of Southeast Asia have served as a universal language, fostering cultural exchange and knowledge. Today, this musical legacy is taking on a new purpose: musicians around the world and from the region are lending their voices to move people to action around the climate crisis.

One initiative is the Music Declares Emergency (MDE), a movement urging the music industry to take action on climate change. Supported by artists such as Grammy-award winning singer Billie Eilish who highlighted her environmental advocacy during one of her Happier Than Ever, The World Tour concert legs in the Philippines in 2022 by strategically minimizing the environmental impact of her tour. Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour, powered by renewable energy and initiatives to reduce carbon footprint, is also expected to go live in the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand this 2024.
This goes beyond musical acts. From Thailand's pioneering Wonderfruit Festival, with its waste reduction and renewable energy, to Malaysia's Rainforest World Music Festival, blending musical traditions with environmental advocacy, more and more concert productions, recording studios, and festivals are implementing eco-conscious measures. Beyond the stage, the Philippines is also echoing its commitment to conservation. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) of the Philippines’ "KANTALIKASAN" album celebrates winning environmental songs, while Lio Beach Fest in Palawan celebrates environmental awareness, harmonizing vibrant performances and conservation efforts.

Driven by a shared concern for the climate crisis, 13 leading Indonesian musicians also recently came together to form IKLIM ‘the Indonesian Knowledge, Climate, Arts and Music Lab’. These artists of various genres such as Endah N Rhesa, Iga Massardi, Navicula Tony Q Rastafara, and others gathered in Bali earlier this year to gain a deep understanding about the causes of climate change, what needs to be done to reduce carbon emissions and how music and art can be powerful tools for climate action. Their collaboration resulted in the 'sonic/panic' compilation album, released under Alarm Records, Indonesia's first environmentally conscious record label. The album's diverse genres unite under a common cause: the urgent call for climate action.

To celebrate the album's release on major digital platforms, the IKLIM Fest was held in Ubud on November 4, 2023. This event marked the first climate-conscious festival in Indonesia that implemented a 'Reuse Protocol' by Dietplastik Indonesia to reduce the large amounts of single-use waste typically generated at music festivals.

Gede Robi, vocalist and guitarist of Navicula, and a driving force behind IKLIM, said “Until now, there was no collective movement that united Indonesian musicians around the climate crisis. We are inspired by the global Music Declares Emergency movement, and aspire to encourage musicians across the Asian region to join us in taking climate action.”

Furthermore, Robi outlined IKLIM's plans to broaden its reach by collaborating with more musicians and industry professionals across Indonesia and is currently actively promoting the joint movement among musicians in the Philippines, Bhutan, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and South Korea.

"The ultimate objective," Robi elaborated, "is to promote sustainability within the music industry. IKLIM functions as a think-tank for making music more environmentally sustainable. As we continue to engage with industry stakeholders, our knowledge and experience will grow, enabling us to develop best practices for reducing the music industry’s carbon emissions. This, in turn, will empower musicians to play a more active role in both raising awareness and mitigating the impact of the climate crisis."

Charting a Path Forward

While challenges persist, which include limited knowledge and access to environmentally friendly solutions within the music industry, Robi believes that as more musicians and industry players join this collective effort, more solutions will emerge.

The establishment of Music Declares Emergency Indonesia, the first chapter of the global movement in Asia is an extension of the global movement that unites musicians, industry professionals and music lovers, and transcends genres and borders to take a collective stand around the climate crisis.

As sustainable practices become integrated into Asia's music industry, musicians in the region can set a standard for responsible entertainment. "The climate crisis has now taken center stage for our generation, and the movement’s success hinges on collaboration, especially among industry stakeholders. We envision that our current efforts will serve as a blueprint for something much bigger in the future.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------
About IKLIM:
The Indonesia Climate, Knowledge, Arts & Music Lab (IKLIM) is a collective of artists and musicians committed to climate action, amplifying the climate dialogue through the universal language of music.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
About Music Declares Emergency (MDE) Indonesia:
The 13 Indonesian musicians behind "Sonic/Panic" are founding members of Music Declares Emergency (MDE) Indonesia, the first chapter of the global movement in Asia. With the call of ‘NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET,’ they are part of a global movement of artists, music industry professionals, individuals, and organizations united by a single goal of protecting all life on Earth.

They believe in the power of art to inspire, connect, and spark conversations, and "In Her Future Memories" embodies this spirit.

“In Her Future Memories” was designed and created by Jhocel “Anthony Marahuyo” Malicsi and his team of thirteen talented visual artists—Rheydene Luca Ortega, Rhealhet Luca Ortega, Laurence Sebolino Gutierrez, Ma. Aleilyn Joyce Domingo Botin, John Roland Alipis, Ainafer Rupal Arena, John Alexis Rupal Arena, Roma Nieves Huet, Rica Permejo, Mia Jormalyn Astrera Balaoro, John Lenarrd Soriano Barua, Michael Grospe Autos, and Jefferson Panghulan Parajas. Anthony Marahuyo shares insights into his team’s winning design.

Marahuyo Studio is gifted their prize money for winning the Avida South Park Mural Design Competition.

Team leader Jhocel Malicsi and his group executed their winning mural design on one of the exterior walls of the South Park Center. Using paints provided by Davies Paints, they turned the wall into a massive, eye-catching canvas on which the theme was well-interpreted in vivid colors with a clear visual story.

Towering 20 meters above the ground, “In Her Future Memories” is the biggest creative mural in the South that is expected to draw multitudes of art lovers and visitors to South Park District, a 6.6-hectare master planned mixed-use development in Alabang, Muntinlupa City that is home to 2 Avida residential developments which are Avida Towers Ardane - a pre-selling property, and Avida Towers Altura - a move-in ready home, right across the South Park Center and South Park Corporate Center.

Officials from Avida Land were present at the official unveiling of the completed mural.

Avida Land's Marketing Head, Tess Tatco, beams with excitement for South Park District's newest attraction. The towering mural joins Reginald Yuson's existing installations, painting a vision for South Park as a vibrant place to live and thrive. Tatco envisions not just Avida residents, but people from different cities visiting the mural in person. “Come see ‘In Her Future Memories’ for yourself,” she invites everyone, “and step beneath the towering canvas, feel the pulse of the city and nature merge, and rediscover the charm of the South.”

Ulysses Jose N. Rosal III, Business Development Manager at Davies Paints, shared his excitement to have been part of the production of one of the biggest murals in the entire country.

The mural’s creative team designed the art piece to adhere to the competition’s theme of “Part City, Part Nature, Pure South”. It prominently depicts a female cyborg whose mechanical parts seamlessly blend with a backdrop of brightly hued tropical flowers, creating a fusion of technology and nature. On the left, where the flowers open up to the futuristic city skyline, onlookers are invited to imagine what tomorrow might bring.

Through its appealing imagery, the mural transports us to a world where concrete skyscrapers rise amidst vibrant flora, symbolizing a hopeful future where progress does not come at the expense of the natural world. It’s an image that evokes nostalgia and a feeling of deep connection to one’s hometown.

This artwork transcends its physical form, offering an opportunity for reflection and creative expression - where casual passersby and art lovers can capture their own special moment and share this online.

Running on the LG webOS 6.0, the CineBeam Qube provides intuitive control and easy access to a diverse selection of streaming services, such as Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and YouTube.* When not in use for content consumption, users can turn on the projector’s image-mapping function and enjoy captivating digital images that enhance the ambiance of their space.

“Great for spaces large and small, LG CineBeam Qube is a unique lifestyle projector possessing all the qualities consumers look for when choosing a new projection solution,” said YS Lee, vice president and head of the IT business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “LG’s upgraded projector lineup offers a range of lifestyle-enriching devices that present outstanding spatial integration and versatility as well as immersive, cinematic viewing experiences.”

Visitors can experience LG CineBeam Qube alongside the company’s latest innovations at its CES booth (#16008, Las Vegas Convention Center) from January 9-12.
