SYNOPSIS

With dark shades on and a burning cigarette between his lips, Makoy (Dingdong Dantes) will do whatever it takes to get back his girlfriend Sonia (Lovi Poe), who's pregnant with their child. He makes the trip to remote Pulupandan, her hometown, and is quickly rebuffed by Sonia's mother Fely (Janice de Belen). Tired of his laziness, and devil-may-care attitude, Sonia refuses to see him as well. But Makoy has never been one to give up. With the help of Sonia's father Nestor (Joey Marquez) and his ever-dependable helper Bart (Ramon Bautista), Makoy stays in town to surprise Sonia on her birthday. But alas, Makoy gets into trouble with a group of townsfolk who transform into tiktik—horrific, man-eating creatures with a taste for fetuses that are still in the womb! They are angry, and they are hungry for revenge. Will their thirst for blood and retribution be quenched? Will Makoy finally get his act together, protect Sonia and their baby, and once and for all prove himself worthy of their love? Who will win in the battle between men and monsters?

Give Me 5: Safeguard Celebrates Its 5th Global Handwashing Day

Handwashing with soap is the most effective and inexpensive way to prevent diarrhea and acute respiratory infections, which take the lives of millions of children in developing countries.

Procter & Gamble, through its flagship soap brand Safeguard, and its partners

continue their commitment to promote proper handwashing with soap.

October 15 marks the annual Global Handwashing Day (GHD), which aims to promote the importance of handwashing with soap to avoid diseases. More than 3.5 million children under 5 years old die every year from diarrhea and pneumonia-related diseases worldwide. In the Philippines, diarrhea and pneumonia are also among the top causes of death among children under 5 years old. The simple act of handwashing with soap at 5 critical times – before eating, before handling food, after using the toilet, after handling pets and after playtime – is proven to be an effective and affordable way to prevent potentially deadly diseases among children.

This year, Procter & Gamble, through its flagship soap brand Safeguard, the Department of Education, the Department of Health, UNICEF, Fit for School and Play Pilipinas, aim to help more children reach their 5^th birthday. As the key soap partner of Global Handwashing Day in the Philippines since 2008, Safeguard kicks off its 5^th year celebration of GHD early to educate more Filipinos about the lifesaving habit of handwashing with soap.

These handwashing stations will enable children to wash their hands after playtime – 1 of 5 critical times for handwashing – for safe and healthy play free from disease-causing germs.

CHICKEN DELI launches its new branch in SM Santa Rosa

Chicken Deli took the south by storm literally! Chicken Deli launched its latest branch last Sunday, September 16, 2012 at SM Santa Rosa, Laguna. The new branch was flooded by Inasal fans on this rainy day who wanted to get a feel of the Inasal craze and to grab a taste of that popular and delicious Chicken recipe from the festive City of Bacolod.

In the middle CHICKEN DELI Founder Roseller Ciocon with family,  friends and staff at the branch opening in SM Santa Rosa, Laguna.

The simple and intimate store blessing was attended by close friends, family and Chicken Deli store owners that came all the way from Bacolod. As soon as the kitchen started grilling their famous original Inasal dishes, Sunday mall visitors started pouring in the restaurant from kids, teens, old timers, friends and family! Chicken Deli caters to all and offers everyone that enters its doors a satisfying smile on their faces and a reason to look forward to for their next visit.

TONIGHT ALIVE Live in Manila , September 22

Rising from the fevered hotbed of Sydney, Australia’s underground hardcore scene, boy meets girl. 

Try to keep up – the story goes something like this…

Guitarist Whakaio Taahi and his compadre bass player, Cameron Adler, needed a frontman for a rock project. Scrap that. Frontwoman. Enter ingénue-with-attitude, Jenna McDougall – as soon as the sixteen-year-old songstress’ soaring contralto and sweet strains took the mic to their songs, something clicked. Already onboard, rhythm axeman Jake Hardy and new recruit, drummer Matt Best – a childhood buddy of Whakaio’s. One jam later, the writing was on the wall. Tonight Alive were up and running, pedal to the metal.

The band stepped up, and fast. Songs honed, stagecraft already a dead cert, they entered Sydney’s subterranean circuit of metalcore and heavy bands, playing their own brand of catchy-as-all-hell pop-punk… and promptly took the scene by storm, developing a rabid young fanbase in thrall to the band’s ebullient, fist-pumping anthemery, arena-sized hooks and high-voltage live performances.

Right from word-go, it was clear Tonight Alive were going somewhere.

A year on, courted by labels and management secured, with two stellar EPs (‘All Shapes & Disguises’ and ‘Consider This’) under their belts, a demo of Tonight Alive’s new material landed on producer-extraordinaire Mark Trombino’s (Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, The Starting Line) desk. He rang the band immediately, wanting in.

“For him to contact us, and say he was interested, was a big deal,” says Jenna, now 19. “We couldn’t believe he’d put himself out like that. He’s amazing. Mark created the albums we all grew up listening to – the albums that launched the careers of all these great bands.

Recorded at LA’s infamous NRG Studios over two months, Trombino’s personal interest in the project played out in other fortuitous ways. “Nothing was left to editing or over Pro-Tooling,” notes Whakaio. “Jenna sang every line until it was right. I played every guitar part. The drum sound is natural and not heavily sampled. There was no copy-pasting. That was really important to us, as well as Mark. That it sound real. Natural.”

“It was great because it made us really step up as musicians,” says Jenna. “I know I definitely came back from the experience a better singer.”

As the charging powerchords, chiming verseline and rattlesnake high-hats of Breaking &  Entering kick off proceedings, Tonight Alive make their intent known with this instant torch song. Like serving up straight red cordial shots to a bunch of Ritalin-deprived delinquents. Like scooping up a surging circle-pit and slamdunking into a kids’ jumping castle. Like a surly prom queen setting her school afire as the So-Cal styled band plays on, What Are You So Scared Of? is a veritable barnstormer of a debut album. Bouncey, infectious and thrilling.

Cue the mosh-happy shout-a-long of Starlight, the sheer infectious fun of Sure as Hell and the sugar-rush of songs like To Die For and the title track. Lending both cred and sporting their influences on their sleeve.

But there’s also gravitas to match Tonight Alive’s gusto and good times – the balls-out heaviness of Listening, the acoustic-shaded power ballad Safe and Sound, and one of the album’s best tracks, Let It Land, all showcase a band with serious songwriting chutzpah. Meanwhile, the moving closer, Amelia, is Jenna’s paean to a girlhood friend who passed away aged 16, and packs one powerful emotional punch.

What really lifts Tonight Alive above another female-fronted pop-rock band is their muscular musicality, a deft sense of dynamic, a way of shifting seamlessly from the big riffs and breakdowns, to allow space and the sensibility of Jenna’s sweetly sung melodies to shine through.

The hardcore heritage has set them in good stead – these kids have some bad-ass chops. Underpinned by Best’s impassioned, athletic drumming, the mercurial undertow of Adler’s tasteful basswork and Hardy’s meat ’n’ potato riffery, Whakaio lays down the sort of colour, texture and zinging, adrenalizing leadlines that sing like a wire fenceline being drawn taut.

The band’s grounded approach has added to their groundswell appeal. “We started off playing youth centre’s,” says Whakaio. “And so we all feel like we have a personal connection to so many people who come to our shows. I know that sounds clichéd, but it’s true – it’s almost like we’re friends with all of them. We make a point of going out after a gig, making contact with the fans, thanking them, keeping them informed.”

“12 Heavenly Music to be heard at ASOP Music Festival 2012 Finals Night”

Now the stage for its grand finals is all set on September 24, 2012, Monday at 7 o’clock in the evening at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

“While songs about love and relationships are a dime a dozen on air, few and far-between are the songs written for the glory of God”, remarked by BMPI-UNTV Chairman & CEO, also a known songwriter and recording artist, Dr. Daniel Razon, thus the birth of “A Song of Praise (ASOP) Music Festival” hosted by Richard Reynoso and Toni Rose Gayda aired every Sunday on UNTV.

As days progressed, more praise songs written by amateur and professional composers were heard in said TV program expressing the wonderful things the Maker has bestowed on us.

"The Mistress" Exceeds P100 Million Mark in 5 Days

 “The Mistress,”  exceeded the P100 million box office mark after its fifth day of nationwide release.  

“The Mistress,” Star Cinema’s latest offering topbilled by Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd is continuing to break records in its second week of screening in 200 cinemas in the Philippines and in selected cinemas in different parts of the world.

Countless moviegoers highly commended Bea and John Lloyd’s first daring film not only because of the incomparable brave portrayal of its lead stars, but also of its very controversial ending captured everyone’s heart that moved the audience to watch “ The Mistress” over and over again.

The Olivia M. Lamasan directorial masterpiece debuted overseas through a jampacked international premiere held in Nice, France with John Lloyd and Bea in attendance.

“Nag-show kami after the screening. Napakabait ng mga Filipino doon. Ang warm ng pag-welcome nila sa amin, first time ko doon,” said Bea who almost cried after learning thay their movie surpassed P100 million in less than one week. “Sabi nila umiyak daw sila, nagustuhan nila ‘yung pelikula sa sobrang nakakatuwa talaga.”

Graded B by the Cinema Evaluation Board, “The Mistress” is still showing in 200 cinemas nationwide in selected theatres worldwide.

Tagged as John Lloyd and Bea’s bravest film ever, “The Mistress” tackles the controversial issue of infidelity. “Interesting siya kasi marami talagang nasa sitwasyon na ganyan. But it was never an intention to be controversial,” shared Direk Olive. “When it was conceptualized it was simply about a story of a man who falls in love with a woman who happens to be a mistress. We also got interested in what king of mistress or a woman this mistress is to be worthy of this man’s love.”

But what makes "The Mistress" more fascinating is the love triangle among the Sari (Bea), the mistress; Rico (Ronaldo Valdez), the benefactor; and JD (John Lloyd) persistent admirer. 

“In every triangle, it becomes more interesting kung parang level ‘ yung competition ng ka-triangle," said Direk olive. 

“What’s also appealing about the film is that kuwento siya ng flawed characters. All of them are flawed but all of them have a heart and in getting to know them, you would sympathize and empathize with them.”

Aside from John Lloyd, Bea and Ronaldo, also part of “The Mistress” is the multi-awarded actress Hilda Koronel who plays the character of Regina, Rico’s legal wife. Completing the cast are Anita Linda, Carmi Martin, Tony Mabesa, K Brosas, Gabe Mercado, Minnie Aguilar, Nor Domingo, and Clarence Delgado.
