Behind the Wheel and Order: Meet the Drivers Living the Stories of Grab’s Viral Short Films

Now in its second year, “Itatawid, Ihahatid” continues to spotlight the often-overlooked dedication of Grab’s driver- and delivery-partners — everyday heroes who go the extra mile not just for passengers and customers, but for the families who rely on them.

Grab’s wide-ranging programs, from financial aid to wellness and family support, transform the livelihoods of partners like Ronni and Mary Joy; and fuel shared prosperity across communities.

This year’s campaign features two viral short films inspired by real stories—those of a senior GrabCar driver and a determined female GrabFood cyclist. More than just testimonials of grit, these stories reveal a shared reality among drivers and riders: behind every booking is a mission, one that transforms individual journeys into opportunities for entire families.

In the heat of a Manila afternoon, 63-year-old Ronald “Ronni” Petterson grips the steering wheel of his GrabCar with precision. He is simply a dedicated transport professional and father still providing. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Mary Joy Flores leans over the handlebars of her bicycle, weaving through traffic with practice. A GrabFood delivery bag is strapped securely to her back, but the real weight she carries is more profound: the needs of five other lives that depend on her.

They come from different generations, but Ronni and Mary Joy are bound by the same road — one paved by Grab’s expanding ecosystem of support for its driver- and delivery-partners. Through financial programs, digital training, education assistance, and emergency aid, the platform is building more than livelihoods. It’s helping build futures.

Ronni Petterson, 63: A New Chapter Behind the Wheel

Ronni’s face may be familiar to some. The former corporate trainer and television extra has always been a man of many roles — but perhaps none as meaningful to him now as being a GrabCar driver-partner.

“I get to meet people, help them get where they need to be, and still provide for my family. At my age, that’s a gift,” he says.

More than a job, Grab has offered Ronni the tools to thrive. He is a regular user of GrabAcademy, the company’s in-app learning platform where he picks up tutorials on customer service, digital literacy, and financial management. “The videos are there anytime I need them. That’s important, especially for someone like me still catching up with the digital world,” he says.

Like many partners, Ronni also turned to GrabFinance’s GrabAsenso Loans during a period of financial need. “It’s deducted gradually from my daily earnings — you hardly notice it, but before you know it, you’re done paying. That kind of flexibility matters.”

In the first quarter of 2025, Ronni was among the thousands of partners who received Ka-Grab Rewards – Grab’s incentives scheme for its top performing driver-partners – entitling him to performance incentives, vouchers, and discounts at pharmacies like Generika. “They text me when I can claim my discount. I just show up, no hassle,” he smiles.

For Ronni, the road ahead isn’t just about driving — it’s about staying an active, productive, and proud senior citizen on the road.

Mary Joy Flores, 22: Delivering Hope with Every Order

Mary Joy has worn many hats: construction worker, computer shop attendant, and more. But none of those jobs gave her the consistency, flexibility, or empowerment she now finds as a GrabFood cyclist.

As the breadwinner for her baby and four younger brothers, every delivery is part of a larger mission: “After December, I was finally able to buy shoes, school bags, and uniforms for my siblings,” she shares.

Like Ronni, she tapped into GrabFinance’s GrabAsenso Loans during tough moments — micro-loans designed with partners like her in mind. Instead of a rigid credit check, the platform assesses her in-app performance and earnings. “I wouldn’t qualify for traditional loans. But Grab sees the work I do,” she says.

In a world where financial access often excludes the very people who need it most, this inclusion is a lifeline. It means her siblings stay in school, meals remain on the table, and hope is always within reach.

Programs Rooted in Malasakit and Mobility

Grab’s social impact ecosystem extends well beyond Mary Joy and Ronni. In 2024 alone, millions worth of emergency aid was distributed through GrabCare and MOVE IT Malasakit programs, providing immediate relief during medical emergencies and natural disasters.

Through the GrabScholar Program, the children of driver-, delivery-, and merchant-partners have been awarded over 900 educational grants and 18 full-ride scholarships — empowering the next generation with opportunities their parents once only dreamed of.

Stability, too, is in the company’s blueprint. The Grab Kaagapay Program now subsidizes Pag-IBIG contributions for thousands of partners in Metro Manila and Cebu, unlocking access to housing and calamity loans.

Each initiative echoes the company’s deeper commitment: to invest in partners not just as workers, but as people — providers, students, caretakers, and community members.

One Ride at a Time, One Family at a Time

As Grab’s viral short films under the “Itatawid, Ihahatid” campaign capture the quiet heroism of its driver-partners, real-life stories like Ronni’s and Mary Joy’s remind us that behind every journey is something more. A parent’s love. A child’s dream. A second chance. A lifeline when it’s needed most.

Ronni and Mary Joy represent the power of platform work coupled with support, mobility not just in transit, but in life.

And through Grab, they are not only getting there — they’re bringing others with them

21st National Buntis Day Empowers Expectant Moms with Vital Maternal Health Education

Learn how Calciumade, Hemarate FA, and Obimin Plus contribute to maternal health throughout every stage of pregnancy

The wonder of bringing life into the world forever serves as a powerful testament to the inspirational strength, resilience, and courage of women. However, mothers understand that the labor and delivery process is much more than childbirth. Pregnancy is a long and taxing transformative journey that involves different challenges and uncertainties.

Celebrating motherhood and wellness: Expectant moms across the Philippines gather for the 21st National Buntis Day, with Unilab brands championing better health for every mom and baby.

For the 21st National Buntis Day, expectant moms were reminded that they are not alone in their pregnancy journey. The Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) celebrates this special day every year on March 10 to focus on the health and well-being of pregnant women. This year, Buntis Day was celebrated all over the country, with events happening in different places like Cagayan de Oro, Las Piñas, and Mandaluyong. It was a meaningful day filled with support, care, and helpful information for moms-to-be.

This year, together with POGS, Calciumade, Hemarate FA, and Obimin Plus emphasized the importance of maternal health throughout different stages of pregnancy, particularly the key roles of bone, joint, and blood health as well as their significance in the baby's brain development. As part of the initiative, pregnant women were given access to free pre-natal check-ups and ultrasounds, as well as a free pre-natal class courtesy of POGS. Unilab also provided free bone density and anemia screenings, underscoring the campaign’s commitment to holistic maternal care.

The Buntis Day program was a vibrant and empowering event filled with meaningful activities. Highlights included informative talks on antenatal care, immunization for pregnant women, and breastfeeding, equipping moms-to-be with practical knowledge for a healthy pregnancy journey. The event also featured the heartwarming Miss Buntis Day Pageant, celebrating the beauty and strength of expectant mothers, and the Liwanag Advocacy, which shed light on important maternal health issues and encouraged supportive community involvement.

This year, POGS mounts the sessions in collaboration with Biofemme, the women’s health subsidiary of UNILAB. Together with POGS, Calciumade, Hemarate FA and Obimin Plus emphasized the importance of maternal health throughout different stages pregnancy, particularly the key roles of bone, joint and blood health as well as its significance in the baby's brain development.

According to the DOST FNRI Expanded National Nutrition Survey 2021, 97% of Filipinos are calcium deficient. The shocking figure becomes even more concerning given how pregnant women require increased calcium for their baby’s bone development and their own bone health and flexibility. Adequate calcium intake during pregnancy supports the baby’s growth while helping prevent bone density loss in mothers. Alongside proper diet and exercise, Minerals + Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3): Calciumade® helps address this deficiency with the right levels of Calcium, Vitamin D3 for strong bones, and essential minerals for joint flexibility.

Meanwhile, Iron + Pyridoxine (Vit B6) + Cynocobalamin (Vit B12) + Folic Acid: Hemarate® FA aids in the production of new red blood cells to oxygenate the body, restore alertness and liveliness, prevent neural tube defects in babies, and maintain normal homocysteine levels in the blood.

These are especially important given that babies rely on their mothers’ red blood cells for growth and development, especially in the last 3 months of pregnancy. The body also requires more iron to support the increased blood volume and the baby’s development. To help address the common pregnancy concern of Iron Deficiency Anemia, Hemarate FA presents 60mg of elemental iron, the recommended amount according to the Department of Health. The supplementation supports overall blood health, ensuring both the mother and baby receive adequate oxygen and nutrients for healthy growth and development.

Lastly, Multivitamins + Minerals + DHA + EPA: Obimin® Plus features a combination of DHA & EPA that supports a baby’s rapid brain and eye development, while also decreasing the risk of pregnancy complications. It contains a high amount of folic acid for the prevention of neural tube defects as well as vitamins and minerals to help boost immune function during pregnancy. Designed for both prenatal and postnatal care, this supplement provides key nutrients to support mothers throughout pregnancy and lactation.

The 21st National Buntis Day serves as a powerful reminder of how important it is for moms and moms-to-be to understand the different aspects of maternal care. From pre-natal to post-natal, pregnancy is no easy journey—and women deserve all the support they can get for their health and for their babies. With the help of proper guidance and essential supplements like Calciumade, Hemarate FA, and Obimin Plus, and proper consultations from OB-Gynes, they can take better care of themselves every step of the way.

Championing human-centered AI in the workplace: GCash chief people officer recognized among Southeast Asia’s top 100 HR leaders

The chief people officer of GCash, Robert Conrad Gonzales joins this year’s 100 Most Influential HR Leaders from Southeast Asia, an annual awarding of top HR executives who have made exceptional contributions to leadership, innovation, and transformation in the HR industry. Recipients of this prestigious citation are selected based on social media influence, engagement, industry awards, community impact, thought leadership, and pioneering HR practices. It also considers the impact of HR initiatives on revenue growth and overall market influence.

GCash chief people officer Robert Conrad Gonzales has been recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential HR Leaders in Southeast Asia at the ET Future Forward Southeast Asia Series 2025

Gonzales believes that artificial intelligence (AI) is meant to improve the productivity of their employees rather than replace them. Gonzales, who is the highest-ranking Human Resources (HR) officer of GCash, affirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to putting people first in the age of automation. GCash is the Philippines’ leading finance app and largest cashless ecosystem, and an innovative fintech company that has already received several recognitions as one of the best companies to work for.

“HR should champion automation and lead in adapting to technology, including AI, because our people need it, our employees rely on it,” said Gonzales. “If we do this right, our people will become more productive and serve our customers even better. Invest in people, champion leadership development, and embrace innovation. The future belongs to organizations that prioritize their people as their greatest asset.”

Recognized for his contributions to the HR landscape, Gonzales was awarded during the recently held Future Forward Philippines 2025, which was organized by The Economic Times, the second most widely read English language business daily after The Wall Street Journal.

(L–R) Cebu Pacific Air chief human resource officer Felix Dan Lopez, Globe Telecom Inc. chief human resource officer Renato Manuel Jiao, GCash chief people officer Robert Conrad Gonzales, and ETHRWorld/ETEducation features editor Yasmin Taj, who served as the moderator

Driving business transformation or becoming obsolete in the age of AI?

During the whole day of the event, Gonzales was in the panel discussion titled ‘The Great Debate of HR at a Crossroads: Driving Business Transformation or Becoming Obsolete in the Age of AI?’ He was joined by other HR icons—Cebu Pacific Air chief human resource officer Felix Dan Lopez, Globe Telecom Inc. chief human resource officer Renato Manuel Jiao, and ETHRWorld/ETEducation features editor Yasmin Taj, who served as the moderator.

Looking to the future, Gonzales sees artificial intelligence as a game-changer in transforming how organizations approach leadership development. “AI-powered talent identification and predictive analytics will revolutionize how we discover and grow high-potential leaders,” he said. “We’re also leaning into personalized, AI-driven learning paths that adapt to each employee’s growth trajectory because in a market that changes overnight, static development models just don’t cut it.”

GCash is already putting these innovations to work. “We’re expanding our use of AI-driven career development tools and enhancing our leadership programs with real-world business simulations,” Gonzales shared. “This enables us to gauge better readiness, drive engagement, and close skill gaps faster than ever.”

To ensure these efforts yield a measurable impact, GCash is tracking leadership transition rates, retention of high-potential talent, and post-transition business performance. Continuous feedback loops and engagement surveys are utilized to refine strategies and ensure succession pipelines remain future-ready.

Putting people first in an AI-powered workplace

Gonzales shared that GCash’s AI efforts stem from a deep commitment to employee well-being and operational excellence. He explained that AI doesn’t just enhance customer experience but also makes employees happier by improving their welfare.

“We have a strong commitment to keep our people happy and engaged,” Gonzales said. “Many of our AI innovations are driven by employee needs. For example, team members want faster and more accurate processing of benefits and allowances. That’s why we developed an AI-powered tool called AGA.”

AGA, which stands for Alagang GCash Assistant, is a Gen AI-powered tool that automates and streamlines employee benefits processing. From wellness allowances to flexible benefits processing, AGA enables faster, error-free transactions.

Gonzales leaves HR leaders with a pointed message: “HR is no longer a support function but rather a strategic driver of growth. Invest in people. Champion leadership development and embrace innovation in workforce planning. The organizations that do this will be the ones leading tomorrow.”

Your co-workers’ video freezes, and you hear your kids complaining about the internet. At this point, there is nothing you can do but wait for the connection to be fixed. If you don’t want to be caught in this situation, having a reliable backup is a must. And if you need more reasons why your home needs an “always-on” connection, here are three big ones.

1. Keep Your Productivity on Track

Today, we rely on the internet for almost everything, including our livelihoods. If you work from home, you know that a stable internet connection is non-negotiable. You can’t afford to miss online meetings and important emails or be offline during work hours.

And it’s not just you. If your kids are still studying, they need a reliable connection to finish their schoolwork. We can’t have them scrambling for a hotspot, especially at night. A failsafe backup, like a secondary LTE connection, ensures that everyone stays online by kicking in automatically when your primary line fails. It may not be as fast as your primary connection, but it will keep you connected. This brings us to the second reason…

2. Stay Connected, Especially During Emergencies

We live in an era where being connected is more important than ever—especially during emergencies. Need to contact emergency services? Attending a Telehealth appointment soon? Checking in on a loved one at the hospital for updates? Noticing unusual behavior in your pet and need to research symptoms online? Away from home and want to check your security cameras?

A primary connection with a reliable backup ensures that you’re always online when it matters the most. No need to worry about internet outages when you need access to crucial information or services.

3. Keep the Fun Going

After a long day, you deserve to unwind without frustration. A failsafe setup means that even during an outage, your household can still stream movies, play games, or stay in touch with family and friends.

While productivity and connectivity are top priorities, uninterrupted entertainment ensures that you can relax with confidence. It’s not just about fun—it’s about knowing that your downtime won’t be derailed.

Stay Connected with PLDT Home Always On

A failsafe internet backup isn’t just about avoiding headaches—it’s about being ready for anything. PLDT Home Always On features a built-in backup LTE that activates automatically when Fiber service becomes unavailable due to unexpected fiber cuts. These could be caused by events like cable theft or damage from road digging, tree trimming, extreme weather, and even rodent chewing. It also comes with a new WiFi 6 modem that supports up to 1Gbps on Fiber and UNLI LTE. Plus, it automatically notifies the repair team and creates a service repair ticket for you after 15 minutes.

With this kind of system, you’re future-proofing your home for a more productive, connected, and stress-free life. Don’t wait for the next outage to realize how much you need it. Get PLDT Home Always On today and stay online when it matters most.

Lucky subscribers unlock core memory with Kathryn Bernardo, Joshua Garcia at TNT Anibersaya Max Saya Bonding Meet-and Greet

TNT KaTropas Kathryn Bernardo and Joshua Garcia bond with lucky TNT subscribers as part of the TNT Anibersaya celebrations. Watch the highlights of the fun-filled event at https://www.facebook.com/share/r/16TVJUDisy/

Lucky TNT subscribers and their companions recently spent a fun-filled Saturday with KaTropas Kathryn Bernardo and Joshua Garcia as part of TNT Anibersaya 25’s Max Saya Bonding Event held in Quezon City.

Among the excited attendees was 53-year-old government employee Rochelle Aguilar, who TNT flew in straight from Iloilo. Still reeling from disbelief, she shared an intimate lunch with the young celebrities, filled with small talk, personal stories, and engaging games. What made the experience even more special was sharing this "core memory" with her two daughters, Jyzelle and Rachel, and their friend Rica Mae Onelan – all loyal TNT subscribers.

All-expenses-paid trip for KaTropas

“Bale, nag-load lang po ako then may nag-pop up na message na may raffle to bond with Kathryn and Joshua so nag-join po ako. Pero hindi ko po sineryoso kasi siyempre, andaming sasali. Hindi na rin ako nag-expect na mananalo,” added Aguilar, who’s been a loyal TNT subscriber for four years now.

Aguilar initially couldn't believe her luck and thought it was too good to be true. However, a TNT representative reassured her that the win was legitimate and promptly arranged the all-expenses-paid trip to meet Kathryn and Joshua.

“Sinundo kami ng TNT team sa bahay nang 5 a.m., dumating kami sa Iloilo airport nang 5:30 a.m., then nag-land sa Manila nang 9:30 a.m. Ngayon andito na kami!”

At the venue, Aguilar and her daughters joined eight other fortunate TNT subscribers from various parts of the Philippines for the exclusive bonding event.

Once-in-a-lifetime experience

“Naunang dumating si Joshua then ‘yun na. Madami na nang kwentuhan at tawanan dahil masaya siyang kausap,” Aguilar said.

“Nasa harap ko si Joshua, habang katabi ko naman si Kathryn during lunch, kaya hindi ko makakalimutan itong experience na ito - lahat-lahat, kasi once-in-a-lifetime lang siya!"

Aguilar’s daughter, Jyzelle, was visibly moved, tearing up as she watched her mother enjoy the event. "Para siyang bata uli na kinikilig nung nakita niya si Joshua!”

Bonding like KaTropas

Throughout the event, Joshua and Kathryn took the time to mingle and talk with each of the lucky subscribers, treating them like their own KaTropas.

Aguilar noted Joshua's openness about his healthy diet of mainly vegetables, fish, and chicken. She was also delighted to discover that Kathryn advocates for stray animals like her, who rescues stray dogs and cats in Iloilo.

To elevate the fun, winners teamed up with either Joshua or Kathryn for two lively games: 'Charades Relay' and 'Mirror Move.' Team Joshua emerged victorious in both.

Aguilar, a member of Team Joshua, proudly took home a P10,000 cash prize, while her daughters, on Team Kathryn, received a consolation prize of P4,000 each.

“Bawi next time!”

“Sa lahat po ng KaTropa na sinamahan kami this afternoon, maraming salamat po sa oras ninyo. Nabitin ako! Sa Team Kath, babawi tayo next time, okay?” Kathryn joked.

“Thank you po sa inyong lahat. Nag-enjoy kami. It’s nice to meet everyone. Maraming salamat for supporting Joshua and I, and of course, sa pagtangkilik sa TNT. Sana hindi ito ang huli, sana maulit pa ito. Sana patuloy niyo pong suportahan ang TNT,” she added.

Joshua, in turn, playfully teased Kathryn's team: “Sa Team Kath, bawi next time! Team Josh, proud ako sa inyo! Maraming maraming salamat. Sana nag-enjoy kayo. Nag-enjoy ako sobra. God bless everyone.”

Hosted by actor Bong Gonzales, the "TNT Anibersaya 25 Max Saya Bonding Event" also delighted winners with exclusive TNT merchandise and memorable photo sessions with Kathryn and Joshua.

More exciting activities and promos await subscribers during the year-round celebration of TNT Anibersaya 25! To stay updated, follow TNT’s official accounts on Facebook, X, and TikTok, or visit its official website at https://tntph.com.
