David Cook Live in Manila and Cebu! This Loud Morning Out Now!

LIVE IN MANILA ● JULY 14, 2012 ● SMART ARANETA COLISEUM
LIVE IN CEBU ● JULY 15, 2012 ● CEBU WATERFRONT HOTEL

THIS LOUD MORNING OUT NOW

Over the last few years, David Cook’s life has been punctuated by extraordinary highs and devastating lows. In short order, the 28-year-old singer, songwriter, and musician won the seventh season of America’s most popular television show, American Idol, rewrote chart history with a record-breaking 14 debuts on Billboard’s Digital Songs chart, released his self-titled major-label debut album in November 2008, watched it debut at No. 3 on the Billboard album chart, spawn two Top 20 singles (the platinum “Light On” and “Come Back To Me”), and sell more than a million copies, reaching platinum status. He immediately hit the road for his year-long “Declaration Tour” to support it. In May of that year, Cook’s older brother, Adam, who had been fighting a battle with brain cancer, died of the disease. On December 2009, one day after the tour ended, Cook traveled to New York City to begin writing the songs that would become his second album, This Loud Morning.

“I got off the road and all the things that happened that I hadn’t been dealing with while I was on the road reared their head,” Cook says. “So as I began writing these songs that would eventually make up This Loud Morning, the act of using these songs as therapeutic outlets became a major release for me, and I think the end result is a bit of up, a bit of down, and a lot of honesty.”

The result is a batch of deeply honest, emotional songs that “allow whomever’s listening to look through a window at the past two years of my life,” the Texas-born, Missouri-raised Cook says. “It’s probably the most therapeutic album I’ve ever written.” As Cook was writing the songs, a theme began to emerge. “There were mornings where I woke up and all I wanted to do was pull the blanket back over my head and try again tomorrow,” Cook says. That feeling inspired the album’s opening track, “Circadian,” as well as its closing track, “Rapid Eye Movement,” which includes a line from which the album’s title is taken: “Give me one more quiet night before this loud morning gets it right and does me in.” “I think everyone’s been at that point where they just feel, ‘Man, the world is loud,’ Cook says. “The only reprieve you get is when you’re asleep. I wanted to blend that feeling with the romantic idea that you can live your entire life during the hours you’re asleep — that there’s this pause button you can use to make sense of the world around you.”

Cook’s growth as a singer, songwriter, and musician can be heard in every facet of This Loud Morning. “I feel that we were able to find the perfect landscape for these songs,” Cook says. “Each one is its own living, breathing thing. I've always approached making records the same way I've approached putting a band together: I'm not concerned with the best songs or the best musicians. I'm concerned with the right songs and the right musicians. My focus is to make great records and having something real and truthful to write about really helped. I feel like the growth in this record is musical, it’s lyrical, it's emotional, and that what I've hit on is something that a lot of people can relate to.”

Having been a musician and performer since he was a teenager, Cook (who first picked up a guitar at age 12 and formed his first band at 15) is eager to hit the road to support This Loud Morning. “The last record took four and a half months from first day of writing to finished product,” Cook says. “So to go from that to taking a year and a half? I'm ready to play this record for people. I can’t wait to get on a stage, look people in the eye, and see their reaction, whatever it may be. Hopefully it’ll be hands in the air and singing all the words.”

Here Comes The Boom is topbilled by Kevin James, Salma Hayek, Melissa Peterman and Henry Winkler. In the movie, Kevin James plays the role of Scott Voss, a high school teacher teacher who turned into a mixed-martial arts (MMA) fighter to raise money and save the school from a $48,000 budget cut which also means termination of the extra-curricular activities including the music program taught by Henry Winkler's character.

CANDICE ADEA Wins International Ballet Tilt

Candice Adea, Ballet Philippines’ principal dancer, won First Prize, Senior Women’s Division at the recently concluded Helsinki International Ballet Competition, one of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world. The competition drew 69 dancers from 28 countries, including USA, China, Japan, Finland, Canada, Italy and Cuba, among others.

Her partner, Jean Marc Cordero, also a principal dancer of Ballet Philippines, was a semi-finalist in the Male Seniors Division. He won a Special Jury Award for Best in Pas de Deux Technique (partnering).

Adea’s win caps her illustrious career—in 2010 she won the Silver Medal at the USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, MI, touted as the Olympics of ballet. In 2011, she won special awards at the Boston International Ballet Competition (the Maris Liepa Award for Artistry) and the Third Prize at the Seoul International Dance Competition. With Cordero, she also won the Lead Role in a Russian Ballet Performance in Boston.
Adea is the first Filipino to be awarded First Prize in a top tier international ballet competition (composed of competitions in Varna, Bulgaria; Jackson, MI, USA; and Moscow, Russia), and joins the list of Filipino ballet dancers who have received international recognition.

As in all their previous competitions, Victor Ursabia, Ballet Philippines’ ballet master and CCP Dance School Director, stood as the pair’s coach and mentor. Adea and Cordero are completely Philippine trained. Both Adea and Cordero studied at the Philippine High School for the Arts (Adea was a Ballet major, while Cordero was in Theater Arts) and they both graduated with a Bachelor of Performing Arts Major in Dance from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

Adea and Cordero has performed Ballet Philippines’ Crisostomo Ibarra, where they reprised their critically acclaimed roles at the last performance with live music, last June 24, 2 pm at the CCP Little Theater. Conquering the Challenge of Changing Business Landscapes

In a constantly changing marketing landscape subject to unpredictable interactions between market forces, it is necessary to be updated on emerging trends and practices in the field of Marketing. According to a Philippine Marketing Association (PMA) official, it is crucial to be always a step ahead and to always ask “what’s next” in order to maintain competitiveness.
Hermawan Kartajaya

“It’s every marketing professional’s responsibility to be aware of new developments and trends in marketing to be able to grow and sustain the business and even become globally competitive,” explains Gwenn Albarracin, PMA President, adding that practices aren’t always timeless and professionals may be employing strategies that are no longer applicable or may need certain tweaks to be effective.

She shares that there are a lot of promising new theories in the field that may change or re-define marketing practices. Among which are ‘Marketing 3.0’ and ‘New Wave Marketing’ espoused by the Founder and CEO of MarkPlus Inc. – a leading marketing professional service firm (Consulting, Education, Research, Media) based in Indonesia and Malaysia – Hermawan Kartajaya.

“Kartajaya perceives changes in the business landscape as an indication that marketing has turned from vertical to horizontal; that it should no longer be viewed from a top-down perspective but should be seen as a level playing field instead,” adds Albaraccin.

Described as a unique combination of practitioner and theorist, Kartajaya has written several international books and has even co-authored some with the Father of Modern Marketing, Philip Kotler.

His co-authored book, Marketing 3.0: from Products to Customers to the Human Spirit, explains that there are three forces that set forth the birth of Marketing 3.0: The Age of Participation and Collaborative Marketing, The Age of Globalization Paradox and Cultural Marketing, and The Age of Creative Society and Human Spirit Marketing. It also describes Marketing 3.0 as the period by which practices are very much influenced by changes in consumer behavior and attitude.

He will be among the speakers in the upcoming Asian Marketing Conference to be held on July 19-20 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Albaraccin says that Kartajaya’s insights will be helpful in understanding how practitioners and business owners can adjust strategies and practices in response to political, technological, socio-cultural, economic changes in the business scene.

As one of the “50 Gurus Who Have Shaped the Future of Marketing” by the Chartered Institute of Marketing United Kingdom, sharing theories and experiences has been a fact of life for Kartajaya, “I have been speaking in several marketing conferences since 1995 in US, Asia, Europe, and Australia. In fact, I have been in the Philippines several times already for various speaking engagements.”

He claims that global marketing practice has a lot of shortcomings. “There are generally a lot of bad practices that we should slowly do the correction. I hope that the attendees of the upcoming Asian Marketing Conference will be part of correcting these bad practices and become aware that Marketing is shifting from ‘vertical’ to ‘horizontal.’”

Albarracin encourages marketing practitioners and key decision-makers to take part in this opportunity to learn from globally-renowned experts and interact with fellow practitioners. “As marketing professionals, we need to play an active role in advancing our knowledge of the craft and be able to better conquer its challenges,” she concludes.

“Just Like Rizal” Advocacy Goes Online

“Just Like Rizal” has been launched through the “Asalto kay Pepe” celebration at the Manila Yacht Club June 16 at 6 p.m. the eve of his 151st birthday.

This online advocacy dubbed “Just Like Rizal” forms part of the Knights of Rizal’s program for 2012-2014 under the theme “Buhayin si Rizal sa Bawat Filipino.”

The Order of the Knights of Rizal is tapping the social media to intensify its efforts to propagate the national hero’s teachings, especially among the youth.
Order of the Knights of Rizal supreme commander Reghis Romero II believes that if the country’s national hero were living among today’s Filipinos, he would have been an active blogger writing his poetry and sentiments about today’s society and posting these in cyberspace.

Commander Reghis Romero II said, “Do you know that if Rizal were alive today, I am 100 percent sure that he would have been the number 1 blogger. Just look at the volumes of his letters to his friends, his family and his articles in La Solidaridad. He almost had something to write every day.”

“You have taken to the electronic media as a source of your social interactive life, giving a new dimension to our quest. You represent the young, energetic, ever curious, and dynamic generation whose interest and hopefully love of our country and admiration of Dr. Jose Rizal would bring our quest to a new level of accomplishment”, Romero said to the guests - media, bloggers and young students.

As Rizal once said, the youth is “bella esperanza de la Patria mia” or “fair hope of my fatherland.” He has a firm conviction that the youth can do great things in molding the country’s future. And he is right, the Filipino youth are the partners of the society, their idealism, their burning passion and their commitment in serving their fellow men are the armors that they will going to employ in order to realize the nation’s aspirations that would truly effect change in the lives of every people living in the society.

To mark Rizal’s 151st birth anniversary, the Knights of Rizal launched two topics on Rizal on Twitter – #asaltoparakaypepe and #buhayinsiRizalsabawatPilipino.

The topics on Twitter, according to Romero, are in tune with the values espoused by Rizal such as love of country, being industrious, and honesty.
