Scottie Thompson, Scotty Pippen Jr. unite at vivo x NBA event

Two accomplished point guards from different sides of the basketball world came together as special guests at the vivo x NBA Meet & Greet, where PBA star Scottie Thompson joined Memphis Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. on July 30 at vivo Concept Store, SM Megamall, sharing insights on leadership, perseverance, and life on and off the court.

The event carried special personal significance for Thompson, who revealed that he was named after Pippen Jr.'s father, six-time NBA champion Scottie Pippen, because of his own father's admiration for the Chicago Bulls legend.

"It's truly an honor to meet Scotty. I'm sure my dad would be very proud," Thompson shared during his onstage conversation with host KC Montero, describing the encounter as a full-circle moment.

The admiration was mutual. When asked about meeting Thompson during his visit to the Philippines, Pippen Jr. said he was equally amazed by the story behind the PBA star's name.

"Definitely cool. He's a cool dude and a super accomplished player. Just hearing all the accolades he's achieved is surreal. It's also crazy that he was named after my dad and now, years later, we're both here together. It's really cool to meet someone like that," Pippen Jr. shared.

The exclusive gathering, held at the vivo Concept Store in SM Megamall on July 30, gave fans a rare opportunity to interact with two elite point guards whose basketball journeys have inspired countless athletes in their respective leagues.

Two point guards, one passion

Throughout the afternoon, Thompson and Pippen Jr. reflected on the experiences that shaped their careers and the values that continue to guide them as leaders on the court.

Pippen Jr. looked back on the perseverance that helped him reach the NBA, beginning with Vanderbilt University before joining the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022 as a two-way player then working his way through the NBA G League and eventually earning a spot with the Memphis Grizzlies.

"The main thing for me is confidence. In college, I was the best player on my team, but when I got to the NBA, you kind of start at the bottom. Just working hard every day, instilling confidence in yourself, knowing you belong, and believing you should be there really helped me," Pippen Jr. shared.

Thompson, meanwhile, shared how years of hard work transformed him from a collegiate standout into a PBA Most Valuable Player, multiple-time champion, and one of the country's premier floor generals.

"For me, I just keep pushing myself every single day. I keep working hard. It shows in my game because what I do in practice is the same thing I bring onto the court," Thompson said.

Although their journeys unfolded in different leagues and basketball cultures, both stars shared the same message: success comes from hard work, perseverance, discipline, and putting the team above yourself.

The conversation also gave fans a glimpse into what it takes to become an elite point guard. While their paths have been different, both emphasized that leadership, making the right decisions under pressure, and helping teammates succeed are qualities that transcend any league or level of competition.

Connecting with Filipino fans

Fans became part of the conversation during an interactive Q&A session, where they asked both athletes about basketball, their personal interests, and the lessons they've learned throughout their careers.

When asked by a fan who had the biggest influence on his basketball journey, Pippen Jr. immediately credited his father.

"My biggest influence on my basketball journey is my dad. Growing up with someone who played in the NBA and has so much knowledge of the game, he was always pouring into me, giving me advice and tips that I still use to this day," Pippen Jr. shared.

Thompson also gave fans a glimpse of the person behind the athlete. When asked what might surprise people about him, the PBA star answered with a smile: "I'm a family man."

The simple yet heartfelt response drew smiles from the audience and reminded fans that, beyond his accomplishments on the court, Thompson takes the greatest pride in being a family-oriented person.

Both players also expressed their appreciation for Filipino basketball fans, praising the country's unmatched passion for the sport and the energy that filled the venue throughout the afternoon.

Red Bull Athlete Lethal Shooter Chris Matthews Celebrates PH Basketball, Inspires Local Hoopers with Historic Rooftop Shot

Red Bull Philippines
recently welcomed to the country Chris Matthews, also known as “Lethal Shooter,” the world’s most sought-after shooting coach and a global basketball phenomenon. During his visit, Matthews made history as the first person to take a shot from the rooftop of The Tenement in Taguig, bringing his signature creativity, precision, and flair to a landmark moment that celebrates the Philippines’ deep-rooted love for the game.

“In the Philippines, the love and the passion just go really deep in the blood. People and the passion here is, to me, number one,” said Matthews about the rich basketball culture in the country. “It’s true love here for the game.”

The rooftop shoot, a daring first for Tenement basketball court, highlights Matthews’ flair for blending precision with skill. He pushed the boundaries higher, capturing the respect and delight of the local basketball community.

“You know, my entire life, I saw this amazing court online. I saw the legendary people— Michael Jordan, Kobe, Luka—everybody had a mural here,” Matthews shared. “So to shoot from the roof and to make a shot and to have a mural here, it's a dream come true, man. It's like basketball heaven for me.”

To achieve his historic rooftop shot, Matthews had to use a specific technique, given his height and distance from the ring. “I had to use my pointer finger to soften the ball up because I was so high that the ball was coming so hard. So I had to have touch to hit the backboard. That's not really a shot from that far, and you’d have to use the backboard for it to go in.

Enriching the Future of the Local Streetball Community

Beyond making history with the rooftop shoot, Matthews also engaged with the local community through exhibition matches and a dunk contest. He also shared tips and personal insights with the local hoopers.

As a Red Bull athlete, he claims that one of the Red Bull values that reflects his approach to basketball is never giving up. “That's the one thing I love about being a Red Bull. It's a company that's always devoted to giving back to the community and giving back to people who are pushing themselves in life, and that's me,” Matthews stated.

His visit championed the grassroots and streetball culture, showing that basketball thrives at every level—from casual neighborhood courts to the international stage.

“I was one of those guys who was homeless. I was one of those guys who didn't know what I was going to do with my life, and Red Bull gave me an opportunity. So to be a part of events like this, partnering with Red Bull and getting ready for Red Bull Half Court World Finals in December in the Philippines—this is a dream come true, man.”

This landmark visit by Lethal Shooter marks a first-of-its-kind moment for Philippine basketball. The event blended elite-level coaching, community engagement, and a record-breaking feat as the first person to shoot a basketball from Tenement’s rooftop, a moment shared on Lethal Shooter’s official Instagram.

Chris “Lethal Shooter” Matthews shows off his rooftop trickshot at The Tenement in Taguig. Watch the full video here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DUEoIKYk0bN/

He also celebrated the energy of the local community through a custom court mural designed by his cousins in collaboration with Tenement Visual Artists. The mural highlights Lethal Shooter’s iconic challenges across different locations, including Man vs Turbine, reflecting his tenacity and passion for basketball while inspiring Filipino hoopers to bring the same determination as they pursue their goals.

If there’s one piece of advice he would give young Filipinos who dream of improving their game, the basketball icon shared, “Just continue to be patient. Don't be in a rush. Understand that greatness takes time, and never allow failure to set you back. Use it to learn.”

With so much energy and local basketball talent on display, the excitement doesn’t end here. Stay tuned for Red Bull Half Court 2026, where the Philippines will host the World Finals, and catch more action-packed basketball moments.

“It’s huge for the country—for Red Bull to decide that multiple countries are going to come here to play basketball. There’s going to be so many people coming here who are going to see what the Philippines life is about, and its passionate love for the game of basketball,” Matthews said.

PNC Archon Esports Shatters 'Playoffs Curse,' Captures realme Regional Wars Championship

PNC Archon Esports dominates regional campus teams to clinch the realme Regional Wars Crown

Following a rigorous series of elimination matches, the realme Regional Wars: Campus Edition concluded with a dramatic Grand Finals, crowning PNC Archon Esports as the undisputed champions. Luzon-based Squad showcased resiliency, strategy, and exceptional teamwork, defeating Mindanao’s Lite EOS in a 3-0 sweep of the best-of-five series.

PNC Archon Esports’ victory not only secured them the prestigious title but also earned them a coveted slot in the Philippine Collegiate Championship (PCC) group stages, giving them a chance to qualify for the PCC National League Grand Finals at the Campus Playfest 2025 on December 7–8.

Game Breakdown: Penalty, Aggression, and Clutch Defense

The series began with PNC Archon immediately gaining an edge in Game 1, which was awarded to them after Lite EOS received a penalty from the tournament administrators for a rulebook violation. This early advantage fueled their momentum into Game 2, where PNC immediately adopted an aggressive stance. They dominated key objectives, including the turtle, and secured early kills to build a strong Gold lead, ultimately leading to a quick win.

The final match proved to be the most intense. Lite EOS, fighting to stay alive, nearly breached PNC’s base after a devastating Maniac by Kylezuu. However, a heroic base defense anchored by Karll (Harith) kept the final base turret standing. Seizing the narrow opening, PNC Archon regrouped and executed a crucial Lord steal, thanks to the well-timed utility of Krema’s Gatotkaca ultimate. This massive momentum swing allowed PNC to launch a final, clean siege and secure the series.

The realme Regional Wars: Campus Edition tournament series was made possible with the support of Converge, whose high-speed, reliable network ensured smooth, uninterrupted matches.

Finals MVP and Prize Recognition

For their pivotal roles, Karll was named Match 3 MVP with an 8-2-8 KDA and 89% kill participation, while the overall Finals MVP title was awarded to Krema. PNC Archon will take home P100,000 in cash plus a realme 15 Pro 5G, while Krema receives P50,000 in realme products as Finals MVP.

Lite EOS and Vanguard Esports T1 received P30,000 and P20,000, respectively, for their runner-up finishes.

Ending the 'Curse': A New Beginning

The victory was particularly memorable for the team, as Krema revealed in a post-match interview: "We have been together for a long time, but we always felt cursed in the playoffs – it was either a reverse-sweep in the first round or a total zero finish. This is our first time ever reaching the finals, and even securing the championship title." For PNC Archon Esports, this victory marks a significant breakthrough. "We didn't expect to win, but this is just the beginning for us," Krema stated. "We will continue to join every tournament available."

PNC will face the qualified teams in the PCC National League Group Stages for a chance to advance to the PCC National League Grand Finals at Campus Playfest 2025 on December 7-8 at the MOA Arena Music Hall. The realme 15 Pro 5G will serve as the official gaming phone for the event. Fans are invited to watch the action live and cheer for their favorite team.

For fans upgrading to the realme 15 Pro 5G, every purchase comes with FREE TechLife Wireless Earbuds X worth PHP 1,699. Buyers will also have an exclusive chance to win premium prizes, including a realme GT 7T (12GB+256GB), a realme Pad X Wi-Fi, and a travel-for-two escape to Thailand or Vietnam.

Isaiah Joe brings NBA Championship energy to vivo's 10th Year

A decade of capturing life’s best moments hit a high note as vivo Philippines celebrated its 10th Anniversary in style, welcoming Isaiah Joe of the Oklahoma City Thunder to a fan meet at the vivo Concept Store in SM Megamall.

Fresh off his team’s historic NBA Finals victory in June, Isaiah Joe brought championship energy to vivo fans both onsite and online, turning a regular afternoon into an unforgettable celebration of the Filipino's passion for basketball. The crowd was buzzing as he shared stories, posed for selfies, and connected with the vivo community.

Building a legacy through consistency and trust

During an interview hosted by local sportscaster Anton Roxas, Isaiah opened up about the Thunder’s journey to winning their first-ever NBA championship in franchise history after moving to Oklahoma City.

“Each and every game held its importance,” Isaiah said. “We played all the way to July and built up every game. By the time we got to the playoffs, nothing was new. Everything was a habit. We built a consistency that allowed us to play free and have fun, which led us to win the championship.”

When asked about the one moment he would have captured on his phone, Isaiah smiled and became reflective.

“When the buzzer sounded, we were filled with excitement. But seeing my family on the court, that’s when the emotions hit. I started tearing up. It’s been a long time coming, and to finally achieve that with my family there, that’s a moment I’ll cherish forever," he said.

He added, “Next time, I need my whole team to have vivo phones. When the buzzer sounds, we’ll zoom in on every player and capture every emotion.”

Beyond the game: A champion with heart

The fans went wild as Isaiah demonstrated his now-iconic three-point celebration, revealing the playful Marvel inspiration behind it.

“It’s an Iron Man reference. You have the mask with one hand and the repulsor with the other, but I turned it into a three. I’m a big Marvel fan,” he shared, much to the delight of the crowd.

Beyond his on-court heroics, it was Isaiah’s sincerity and humility that stole the show. When asked about his community work in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Isaiah spoke from the heart.

“Growing up, we didn’t have NBA players coming to Fort Smith. Now, kids tell me I’m their inspiration, which is hard to believe. They’ve built me up to be who I am, so the least I can do is give back,” he shared, highlighting his efforts in supporting youth programs and initiatives like the Fort Kids Children’s Museum.

Fans celebrate a champion's warmth

Throughout the afternoon, Isaiah made sure every fan felt valued. He posed for selfies, signed merchandise, and took time to have genuine conversations with attendees.

As a token of appreciation, vivo gifted limited-edition merchandise during the signing session, making sure every fan had a token to remember the day by.

Capturing every victory with vivo X200 FE

The event also spotlighted vivo’s latest innovation, the vivo X200 FE, which became an instant favorite among fans who used it to capture crystal-clear photos of their moment with Isaiah.

Featuring a 50MP ZEISS Super Telephoto Camera with up to 100x zoom, a 6500mAh BlueVolt Battery, and 90W Flash Charge, the compact flagship X200 FE is designed to capture life’s biggest wins and everyday victories.

As vivo celebrates a decade of helping Filipinos capture life’s best moments, the message of the day was clear: Every victory, big or small, deserves to be remembered and celebrated. Funding gold: PH sports leader cites role of online gaming in athlete success

As debates heighten over the future of online gaming in the Philippines, one truth is often overlooked: the industry plays a vital role in funding Filipino athletes’ journeys to the world’s biggest sporting stages. Companies like DigiPlus Interactive Corp., through its sports entertainment brand, ArenaPlus, have quietly fueled the dreams of Olympic hopefuls, making victories for the country possible.

Cynthia Carrion, President of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines and manager of Olympic double gold medalist Carlos Yulo, emphasized the crucial role of corporate sponsorship in sustaining athletes. “People see the medals, but not the long journey it takes to get there,” Carrion said. “Without sponsors, including those from the online gaming sector, we simply would not have the funds to train, travel, or compete. It’s their support that helps put the Philippine flag on global podiums.”

The gaming industry, now under pressure from calls for tighter regulation or even prohibition, has quietly backed numerous national sports campaigns. Athletes like Eumir Marcial (boxing), Carlos Yulo (gymnastics), Scottie Thompson (basketball), have all benefited from sponsorships funded in part by gaming revenues, support that includes coaching, nutrition, overseas training, and exposure to world-class competition.

Carlos Yulo, speaking after his historic Olympic double gold, echoed this gratitude in an August 2024 press conference, highlighting private partners who stood behind him. “I’m deeply grateful to DigiPlus and ArenaPlus for celebrating this win with me, and recognizing my perseverance. Success does not come overnight, it is made possible with the support of those who believe in you,” Yulo said.

Carrion is no stranger to the demands of high-performance sport. A former Undersecretary for Sports and Wellness at the Department of Tourism and current Chair of the Philippine Retirement Authority, she has long been a leading force in Philippine sports development. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Asian Gymnastics Union, is a Council Member of the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), and was formerly Treasurer of the Philippine Olympic Committee. Under her leadership, the Philippines earned its first-ever gymnastics Olympic medals and became the most bemedaled sport in the 31st SEA Games.

Carrion underscored that support from private entities fills critical gaps left by government funding. “This industry contributes billions in corporate social responsibility. Part of that goes to sports, where government budgets alone often fall short,” she added.

Beyond elite athletes, gaming revenues have helped bankroll national tournaments, grassroots leagues, and other sports initiatives to discover and develop future champions. For many sports organizations, these contributions have meant the difference between hosting a local competition or canceling it altogether.

As Team Philippines prepares for upcoming global events, supporters and sports managers alike call for a more balanced conversation. “Let’s improve regulation where needed, but let’s also acknowledge the good that legal, compliant operators bring to society,” Carrion said.

Century Tuna welcomes back Mt. Everest summiteer Jeno Panganiban

Jeno Panganiban brandishes the Philippine flag at Mera Peak in Nepal, which offers a view of Mount Everest.

Century Tuna officially celebrates the return of mountaineer and Superbod athlete Jeno Panganiban to the Philippines after successfully reaching the top of Mount Everest, the world’s highest summit.

Through a couple of months of relentlessly climbing the unforgiving terrain and enduring the frigid climate of Mount Everest, Jeno has etched his name in Philippine history as the youngest male Filipino who has reached its summit in almost two decades, inspiring a new generation of Filipinos to embrace the challenge of facing their own summit with strength and proper nutrition.

Century Tuna honors his monumental achievement and welcomes Jeno home, shining a spotlight on his triumphant ascent. He embodies strength, endurance, and resilience in his pursuit to reach the summit of the world.
Youngest male Filipino Mount Everest summiteer, Jeno Panganiban, shares stories about his journey climbing the highest mountain in the world.

“When we were approaching the summit, I approached it with pride because by that time, we knew that the whole nation was watching us. And I felt emotional because I was able to carry the Philippine flag to the top of the world,” Jeno shared as he recounted the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Jeno’s summit to the world’s peak is a testament to years of hard work and dedication to fueling his passion for mountaineering and optimizing his lifestyle. He transitioned from a former software engineer, working a 9-to-5 job, to owning a distribution business, supplying healthy produce to restaurants across Metro Manila, which has given him the flexibility to control his own time.

When he set his sights to finally achieving his long-time dream of conquering Mount Everest, Jeno knew that it required singular focus and relentless drive. It wasn’t only about rallying together all his previous mountaineering experiences. It was also about actively choosing to go through extreme preparation and intentionally nourishing his body with the right nutrition that can push him to become one of the Philippines’ national prides.

From high altitude sickness, hazardous weather, to the looming threat of avalanches, Jeno persisted through the life-threatening challenges. He endured temperatures reaching below freezing, extreme sun exposure burning, and loss of oxygen as he was reaching the summit while pushing through exhaustion.

Jeno Panganiban pushes through climbing the Khumbu Icefall, a treacherous shifting terrain of ice and snow near the Mount Everest Base Camp.

“You have to be comfortable in being uncomfortable,” says Jeno. “So every day, we made sure that our bodies were in the right condition. I made sure my body and mind were ready for the push.”

With Century Tuna as his partner, Jeno was able to bring his A game to his climb. His remarkable resilience to climb to an elevation of 8,849 meters is nourished by his favorite Century Tuna meal, the classic combination of Century Tuna Hot and Spicy with saltine crackers, a comfort food that’s easy to prepare but packed with protein to keep him energized throughout his arduous training and long ascent.

Jeno Panganiban holds up the Century Tuna flag at the summit of Mount Everest (left) and at the Mount Everest Base Camp (right).

His journey perfectly embodies Century Tuna’s “Fit for Any Role” campaign, highlighting the brand’s celebration of the multi-faceted image of fitness and its part in helping individuals face any role.

Century Pacific Food, Inc. Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Mr. Greg Banzon speaks about Century Tuna’s partnership with Jeno Panganiban.

He is an inspiration, not just to his fellow athletes, but to all of us who take on life’s challenges every day,” said Century Pacific Food, Inc. Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Greg Banzon.

Over 2,000 runners participated in Takbo #ParaSaLife, Home Credit Philippines' first-ever fun run held at Parqal in Aseana City. Organized by WeKenRun, the event offered 1K, 3K, 5K, and 10K categories, promoting health and wellness among Filipinos and reinforcing Home Credit's commitment to supporting customers not just financially, but holistically.

More than 2,000 runners took a step toward a healthier lifestyle today as they joined Takbo #ParaSaLife, Home Credit Philippines’ (HCPH) first-ever fun run. As the country’s leading consumer finance company, Home Credit continues its mission of supporting Filipinos—not just financially, but holistically—by promoting physical and mental well-being.

Held at Parqal in Aseana City, and organized in collaboration with WeKenRun, a running group led by renowned marathon coach Ken Mendola, the event featured 1K, 3K, 5K, and 10K categories, making it accessible to runners of all fitness levels.

Apart from the fun run participants and the Home Credit executives and team members, guests and personalities, including Lester Cruz, CEO of Singlife Philippines, also graced the event to support Home Credit’s drive for healthier lifestyles. Employees from Boltech and SM, along with valued event partners from Xiaomi, Park Access and Singlife, also joined the race.

Championing holistic wellness

“According to the World Health Organization (WHO), almost 38% of Filipinos are physically inactive, putting them at risk for lifestyle-related diseases. As the Filipinos’ trusted ally, not just in financial inclusion but in overall well-being, Home Credit is committed to encouraging communities to embrace a healthier lifestyle," Petr Lukosz, HCPH Chief CRM Officer and 2x Ironman Philippines Champion said.

“Seeing people of all ages and backgrounds come together for this run is truly inspiring. At Home Credit, we believe that wellness is an essential part of living a fulfilling life. Takbo #ParaSaLife is more than just a race—it’s a movement that we hope will continue beyond today. We look forward to making this an annual tradition to encourage more people to prioritize their health,” he added.

A successful turnout and exciting rewards

The event welcomed Home Credit team members, first-time runners, and seasoned running enthusiasts, all united by a shared commitment to health and wellness. Participants received running shirts, race bibs, and loot bags from event partners, and finisher medals will also be shipped to them. Additionally, podium finishers in the 10K, 5K, and 3K categories took home exciting cash prizes—including a ₱10,000 grand prize for the fastest runner in the 10K distance.

Additionally, Home Credit and its partners made the event even more rewarding with exciting prizes, including gift certificates for ON Running Shoes and Suunto, Park Access vouchers, and smart home gadgets from Xiaomi. Podium finishers also took home insurance vouchers from Singlife—₱7,500, ₱5,000, and ₱2,500 for both male and female first placers of the 10KM, 5KM, and 3KM categories respectively. These winnings are just one of the many ways Takbo #ParaSaLife continues to champion holistic well-being while making every stride even more worthwhile.

Joma Unabia, a first-time fun run participant and 10K finisher, shared his excitement about joining Takbo #ParaSaLife. “This was my first time joining a fun run, and I never imagined I could complete the 10K category—but I did! It was such an incredible experience. Thanks to Home Credit, I got to challenge myself and achieve something I never thought possible. This event has inspired me to stay active, set bigger fitness goals, and make running a part of my lifestyle. I hope to join again next year and push myself even further!”

Looking Ahead

With the success of Takbo #ParaSaLife, Home Credit Philippines is already gearing up for next year’s edition—promising an even bigger, better, and more exciting event.

As WHO data highlights that nearly 40% of Filipinos remain physically inactive, initiatives like this serve as a vital reminder that small steps lead to big changes. Beyond financial empowerment, Home Credit remains committed to championing holistic well-being, ensuring that every Filipino can live their best, healthiest life—one run at a time.

This event would not have been possible without the support of Home Credit’s valued partners—WeKenRun, Aseana City, Parqal, Sip (Hydration Partner) and Sip Plus (Electrolytes), Singlife, Surge Lifestyle, Suunto, Xiaomi Philippines, Park Access (Official Nike Store Partner), Skintech, Dole, Silka, Corbridge, Oishi—who share the same commitment to promoting health and well-being. Their support helped make Takbo #ParaSaLife a truly memorable and rewarding experience for all participants.
