"Mga Mumunting Lihim" (Those Little Secrets)

"Mga Mumunting Lihim" (Those Little Secrets) is the first independent film written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes.

Reyes emphasizes that this film is about friendship created by friends.

Mga Mumunting Lihim is precisely about those seemingly trivial and insignificant events and issues that constitute  the totality of friendship, It is about the life shared through the years of four women and how, in one moment, they finally realized that they truly do not know one another despite the experiences they have shared and cherished , and even defined as friendship.

MARIEL (Judy Ann Santos)  and CARLA ( Iza Calzado) have been best friends since high school. They have shared the years and common interest - they are both creative individuals interested in writing. But the unfolding of years have opted two extremely different courses of the women: Mariel chose to give up her career as a magazine writer to be a wife and mother - while Carla, shunned marriage to become a successful advertising executive.

Into their lives came two other women: there was SANDRA (Agot Isidro) who married a man old enough to be her father so that she can afford the lifestyle that she wanted. And , OLIVE ( Janice de Belen) who was happy with her domestic bliss and married an OFW in Dubai.

The women bonded and treasured their camaraderie until fate struck its blow and bevy had to confront their mortality.

Worse than that, when one of the women exposes the truth about the real feelings and thoughts of the friends about each other, what they perceived as the security of each other's friendship turned out to be the true test of their dignity and honesty.

It is those little secrets that, when added together, constitute the most painful and irreparable damage from seemingly unimportant lies.

Secrets Among Friends: Mga Mumunting Lihim and the "Unspoken"

Just how much do you know your best friends? How many years have you spend together?  How many happy and sad experiences have you shared? How much of your lives do you know about each other?

Are you really sure you know your best friends? When your back is turned or when you are around, are you sure that they are still your friends? Or what do you think they say about you?

Can you really know somebody completely? They say that sometimes your friends know you more than your family, but can you really honestly say that you can completely trust anybody - including your best friends?

Mga Mumunting Lihim ( Those Little Secrets) is a film about  friendship. It is about the solidity of bonding among people who have known each other  for years. It is also about fragility of friendship , and how you can never claim to know somebody in his or her entirety?

An entry in the Directors Showcase of Cinemalaya 2012, Mga Mumunting Lihim is a film written by Jose Javier Reyes, produced by Largavista Entertainment. Starring in the film are Iza Calzado, Agot Isidro, Janice de Belen and Judy Ann Santos as the four female friends whose lives changed because of one significant event that almost shattered the chain linked their lives together.

This is Reyes' first indie movie. And by casting the best and finest of mainstream stars, Reyes hopes to share the opportunity to do the kind of work that commercial filmmaking does not have the liberty to accomodate. AT the same time, this was the opportunity of the four lead actors to do roles which they would not have otherwise done in their commercial projects.

By bringing the mainstream stars to do a work that is produced and embodies the indie spirit, Reyes hoped to create that happy median called "maindie" that will bring the commercial audiences to finally discover and love independent films as part of their everyday culture.

The Darkest Hour 3D

The DARKEST HOUR is the story of five young people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, lead the charge against an alien race who have attacked Earth via our power supply, fights to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack. The 3D thriller highlights the classic beauty of Moscow alongside mind-blowing special effects.

This is the beginning of an invasion of aliens from outer space, intent on plundering the earth for its mineral deposits. There are some genuinely frightening scenes at the beginning, where a Moscow bridge and the city’s ancient, majestic buildings crumble into the ground, and people snared in the electric tentacles of what looks like floating fairy floss are reduced to ashes.

Sean  (Emile Hirsch) and Ben (Max Minghella), board a plane for Moscow where they discover that their software has been stolen by Styler (Joel Kinnaman), a shonky Swedish middleman purporting to be their Russian contact.

The two men console themselves in one of Moscow’s nightclubs, and are just getting to know two young women on holiday, Natalie , Olivia Thirlby and Anne . Rachel Taylor, when the city is plunged into darkness by a power blackout, and eerily beautiful electric ‘jellyfishes’ start falling from the sky.

The 3D thriller highlights the classic beauty of Moscow alongside mind-blowing special effects from the minds of visionary filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov  (who created the nonsensical but stylistically imaginative supernatural epics Night Watch and Day Watch), who produces the film and director Chris Gorak (“Right At Your Door”). “The 3D helps to create these epic stages for an intimate story. The core is the relationship between people, that’s a dramatic spine of the movie, what makes the movie emotional,” says Bekmambetov.

The Darkest Hour 3D opens in theaters nationwide on January 25 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Starring: Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Rachael Taylor, Max Minghella, Joel Kinnaman.

Noli Me Tangere: The Musical - Great Theater Production

Excitedly  I watched  Noli Me Tangere: The Musical
,  premiere night  August 5 at 8:00 evening at the
Little Theater, Cultural Center
of the Philippines. Pop chanteuse Cris Villonco plays the role of the sweet Maria Clara. She's amazingly acting and singing with a very powerful voice ! As Crisostomo Ibarra, Gian Magdangal is really great!  Their voice and rendition of the scenes were stunning! The cast  really did a great job!  The fantastic production earned a standing ovation !

This is super produced , artistically made and great directed.  Noli Me Tangere: The Musical is adapted for the stage by National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera and well known composer / arranger  Ryan Cayabyab.    This is restaged under the direction of theater luminary Audie Gemora. Glad to remember that Director Audie been played as Crisostomo Ibarra in that Noli Me Tangere version in year 1994.

Costume design is by National Artist Salvador Bernal. Agnes Locsin , for choreography, and Rody Vera , the dramaturgy. TP artisitic director is known tv actor Fernando Josef.

The powerhouse cast of Noli Me Tangere: The Musical are talented singers and stage actors and actresses.
Maria Clara  play by sweet Cris Villonco. As Crisostomo Ibarra, playing alternately are Mark Bautista and Gian Magdangal.  Theater veteran and well-renowned actor, Bodjie Pascua, plays the ill-famed cura paroko , Padre Damaso. Versatile thespian Al Gatmaitan stands equally apt as Padre Salvi.

Riki Benedicto of the TP Actors Company plays the feisty Elias, alternated by the likewise vigorous Jerald Napoles. Jonathan Tadioan and Garry Lim ,both distinguished members of the TP Actors Company share the role of Don Tiburcio. Red Nuestro ardently takes on Maria Clara’s father, Kapitan Tiago.  Highly-versatile stage actress, Ring Antonio plays the boisterous, animated Donya Victorina; as the very talented Jenny Villegas plays Tia Isabel. And who else could play the role of Sisa better than multi-awarded and intense performer, Angeli Bayani! AC veteran member  Paolo Rodriguez  plays as the Leproso. The powerful chorus is composed of  talented  singers-actors: Jenny Garcia, Janine Santos, Sherine Coa, Rayna Reyes, Hazel Maranan, Diana Sison, Martha Comia, Kathlyn Castillo, Erick Arsenas, Gino Ramirez, Chesko Rodriguez, Jelson Bay, Berl Angeles, Baron Barbers, and Honorio Magat.
