The Ocean Cleanup marks first milestone with Meycauayan plastic Interceptor rollout

The first Interceptor barrier in the Manila Bay region to be operational by June 2026

Global non-profit organization, The Ocean Cleanup, reinforces its commitment to mitigating ocean-bound plastic waste from the Manila Bay region, with the deployment of its first Interceptor™ barrier in the Philippines, set to be in the Meycauayan River by June 2026.

This follows the recent announcement of Interceptor deployments in the entire Manila Bay region, as part of The Ocean Cleanup’s global initiative, the 30 Cities Program, which aims to accelerate efforts to intercept and remove ocean-bound plastic pollution from rivers globally by up to one third, by the end of the decade.

In partnership with the City of Meycauayan and supported by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), this new Interceptor barrier will replace an existing trash trap and enhance plastic waste interception capacity before it reaches Manila Bay.

The significant advancement will enable the capture of some of the projected 370 to 540 tonnes of annual emissions from the Meycauayan River system into Manila Bay.

“This milestone brings us one step closer to building tangible solutions toward cleaner rivers and healthier communities in the Manila Bay region. We are excited to collaborate with the City of Meycauayan on this first deployment in the Philippines, where commitment and leadership play a vital role in mitigating ocean-bound plastic waste pollution,” said Boyan Slat, Founder and CEO, The Ocean Cleanup.

Henry R. Villarica, Mayor of Meycauayan, added: “In a timely and necessary step forward, our city is proud to formalize a partnership with The Ocean Cleanup to support the rehabilitation of the Meycauayan River. Our work has never stopped, and this collaboration strengthens our capacity to accelerate meaningful, lasting change. We are fully committed to doing everything in our power to rehabilitate our river for the health, dignity, and future of our community.”

Each year, an estimated 20,000 to 33,000 tonnes of plastic waste enter the ocean from the Philippines. According to The Ocean Cleanup’s Smart River Survey, emissions are projected at 3,500 to 4,400 tonnes annually within the Manila Bay region alone, a clear indication of the challenge and the need for urgent solutions.

Rivers are a major source of plastic waste in the oceans, with 1000 of the three million rivers around the world responsible for 80% of the problem, according to The Ocean Cleanup. To address this, the organization deploys Interceptor solutions in rivers and works within local waste systems to stop plastic before it reaches the sea.

This initiative also underscores The Ocean Cleanup’s expanding network of partnerships, bringing together key stakeholders such as the Embassy of the Philippines in the Netherlands and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Philippines, alongside Energies PH as marine renewable energy advisors. The partners collectively work hand in hand with The Ocean Cleanup toward mitigating ocean-bound plastic in the Philippines.

This project is poised to grow even further as The Ocean Cleanup deepens its partnerships with the City of Meycauayan, other local government units, and organizations in the country to go beyond interceptor deployment and drive further awareness and research initiatives.

Eraserheads: Combo On The Run sets record for widest North American release of a Filipino documentary

Ely Buendia and director-producer Maria Diane Ventura join fans in celebrating a milestone debut

From left to right: Byron Atienza, Creative Director of Live Nation; Hilarion Banks, one of the film editors and DOP; Maria Diane Ventura, filmmaker, writer and executive producer; Ely Buendia; and Winston Emano one of the film producers

Following a wave of sold-out advanced screenings across select cities in the United States and Canada, Eraserheads: Combo On The Run has set a new record as the Filipino documentary with the widest theatrical release in North America.

The award-winning docu film opened in more than 100 cinemas on April 24, 2026. To celebrate the release, Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia and director-producer Maria Diane Ventura made special appearances in select theaters in California, where they got to share the film’s growing success with the audience.

Ventura expressed gratitude for the overwhelming reception received by the film in its first few days of release. “It’s incredibly humbling. I feel a deep sense of gratitude to the audiences, to the critics, and to Abramorama for believing in the film and helping bring it to a wider audience.”

She adds, “What’s been most meaningful, though, is the way people have responded on a personal level. I’ve had people come up to me and share that they found a sense of healing in watching it or that it made them feel proud to be Filipino. Hearing that makes all the hard work and exhaustion worth it. That, to me, is the greatest reward.

To see a Filipino story resonate beyond our borders, and to feel that sense of identity and pride reflected back, reminds me why I do this. This film is a love letter to the Filipinos.

And I think it’s arriving at a time when people are searching for connection. We’re living in a period of division, but the film suggests that even then, there is still a way back to each other, through music, art and through storytelling, one of the few things we still all understand regardless of where we come from.”

Ely Buendia also thanked everyone who supported the film’s debut in North America. “To be embraced by the fans is proof that the film did something right. We didn’t want to let them down because this is their story too. And of course, to have the approval of the critics is icing on the cake. They have different standards and are not as subjective as the fans, so for them to think it was a good film, and a documentary at that, is quite amazing.”

Distributed in North America by Abramorama and produced by DVent Pictures, Eraserheads: Combo On The Run tells the story of the Philippines’ most influential band, tracing their meteoric rise from their formation in UP Diliman to becoming a defining voice of a generation, their painful breakup, and their eventual resurgence years later.

Set against the backdrop of the Philippines’ shifting socio-political landscape, the film situates the band’s journey within a country grappling with deep political polarization, reflecting how their music and story became intertwined with the nation’s cultural memory.

Eraserheads: Combo On The Run’s special panel at Austin, Texas last month was recently heralded by Esquire Magazine as “The 5 Best Things We Saw at SXSW 2026.”

Eraserheads is now showing in North America.

Best Local Summer Destinations to Enjoy Music with LG xboom Stage 301

For many travelers, summer trips are not only about where to go, but also about how the experience feels once you get there. A surf morning, a late-afternoon island stop, or a slow evening after a full day outdoors can all feel more memorable with the right playlist in the background. That is where portable audio can naturally become part of the journey.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • LG xboom Stage301 is designed for outdoor listening with 12 hours of playing time and IPX4 water resistance.
  • The speaker features a 6.5-inch woofer, 2.5-inch midrange drivers (2EA), Space Calibration, and Wireless Party Link.
  • Summer destinations such as Siargao, La Union, El Nido, Coron, and Southern Cebu offer natural settings for music-led getaways.
  • For travelers heading farther afield, Bali and Jeju also pair well with outdoor adventures and portable audio.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The LG xboom Stage 301 is designed for this kind of use. It features a 6.5-inch woofer, 2.5-inch midrange drivers (2EA), 12 hours of playing time, IPX4 water resistance, Dual Bar Lighting, Space Calibration that optimizes audio, Auracast, Wireless Party Link, and Karaoke / DJ Effects through the app. These features make it a fitting companion for outdoor plans, casual group trips, and summer escapes.

Here are some of the best destinations to pair with a summer soundtrack.

1. Siargao for surf mornings and sunset wind-downs

Siargao remains one of the country’s most popular summer escapes, especially for travelers drawn to surfing, island hopping, and laid-back afternoons. It is the kind of destination where days can shift quickly from active mornings to slower evenings, making music feel like a natural part of the in-between moments.

The LG xboom Stage301 works well for this kind of setup. Its 12 hours of playing time can support day-to-night listening, while IPX4 water resistance is useful for splash-prone outdoor settings. Its Wireless Party Link also helps support shared listening when a trip calls for a bigger sound experience.

2. La Union for road trips and beach house playlists

La Union continues to be a favorite for quick summer escapes, especially for travelers planning surf sessions, café stops, and relaxed evenings with friends. It is close enough for a spontaneous road trip, but still offers the atmosphere of a real getaway.

For this kind of trip, the LG xboom Stage301 supports the easy, social rhythm of the day. Its Space Calibration is designed to optimize audio, while Dual Bar Lighting adds a more lively mood for post-surf hangouts or late dinners by the shore.

3. El Nido for island-hopping days and scenic resets

El Nido is often the choice for travelers who want dramatic views, long boat days, and moments of quiet after being outdoors. It is less about bringing the loudest setup and more about having music that fits naturally into the environment.

The LG xboom Stage301 fits that balance well. Its 6.5-inch woofer and 2.5-inch midrange drivers (2EA) support outdoor listening, while its portable design and 12 hours of playing time make it practical for villa stays and day-long itineraries.

4. Coron for active mornings and easy evenings

Coron offers a summer rhythm shaped by movement—boat rides, lake visits, swimming, and short hikes—followed by slower evenings back at the accommodation. It is a destination where gear needs to keep up without feeling bulky or overly complicated.

This is where the LG xboom Stage301 feels appropriate. With IPX4 water resistance, Space Calibration, and Auracast, it supports a more flexible listening setup for trips that move between activity and downtime.

5. Southern Cebu for adventure-heavy weekends

For travelers whose summer plans lean toward canyoneering, waterfalls, and packed schedules, Southern Cebu offers a different kind of beach-season energy. It is ideal for people who want their getaway to feel active rather than purely restful.

The LG xboom Stage301 suits this kind of pace. Its 12 hours of playing time supports all-day use, while Karaoke / DJ Effects (App) and Wireless Party Link make it easy to shift from outdoor adventure to a more social evening setup.

6. Bali for tropical trips beyond the Philippines

If the itinerary extends beyond the Philippines, Bali remains an easy choice for surf, beach clubs, scenic stays, and outdoor dining. It is a destination where music often becomes part of the backdrop, whether during villa mornings or sunset gatherings.

The LG xboom Stage301 fits this kind of travel mood with Dual Bar Lighting, Space Calibration, and Auracast, helping make shared listening feel more seamless while keeping the setup simple.

7. Jeju for scenic drives and slower summer escapes

For something less party-driven and more scenic, Jeju offers a quieter but equally rewarding summer pace. Beaches, coastal drives, and open-air stops make it a good destination for travelers who want a more relaxed type of getaway.

In settings like these, the LG xboom Stage301 works best as a companion for unpacking, winding down, or setting the tone for a slow afternoon. Its Space Calibration and 12 hours of playing time support a more effortless travel listening experience.

Why LG xboom Stage301 works for summer

Summer plans tend to be flexible. One day might be a beach trip, the next a road trip, and the next an overnight stay with friends. What makes the LG xboom Stage301 a strong fit for this season is that its feature set aligns with how people actually travel: 12 hours of playing time, IPX4 water resistance, Dual Bar Lighting, Space Calibration, Auracast, and Wireless Party Link.

For travelers who want music to move with them—from surf towns to island escapes and scenic weekends—the LG xboom Stage301 is designed to support a more portable and more enjoyable summer listening experience.

Shopee Philippines and PNP Eastern Police District Sign MOU to Empower Police Families Through E-Commerce

Partnership extends Shopee's Tatak Pinoy program to support the livelihood and financial well-being of police personnel's families across Eastern Metro Manila

Jack Ng, Head of Commercial, Shopee Philippines, with the PNP Eastern Police District

Shopee Philippines and the Philippine National Police-Eastern Police District (PNP-EPD) have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at helping the families of police personnel build sustainable livelihoods through e-commerce. The collaboration brings Shopee’s flagship digital skills training initiative, the Tatak Pinoy program, directly to PNP, equipping police families with the tools and knowledge to start and grow online businesses.

The MOU reflects a shared commitment to the financial well-being of the men and women who serve on the front lines of public safety. Under this initiative, which PNP-EPD has named “Love at First Click: Negosyong Online para sa Pamilyang Pulis,” police families will be equipped with the digital skills and practical knowledge they need to establish and grow their online businesses through e-commerce.

"We have always believed that e-commerce can be a powerful equalizer and that belief extends beyond the marketplace," said Jack Ng, Head of Commercial, Shopee Philippines. "Through this partnership with PNP Eastern Police District, we want to give the families of our police personnel the same opportunities we are bringing to entrepreneurs across the country: real, practical skills that can help them build businesses and improve their quality of life."

The Shopee Tatak Pinoy MSME Roadshow, which has trained over 700 MSME sellers across 10 cities since 2025, will serve as the foundation of the collaboration. Police families will have access to hands-on training in online store setup, digital marketing, order fulfillment, and customer engagement. This is the same curriculum that has helped entrepreneurs transition from informal businesses to thriving online stores.

"Our partnership with Shopee reflects our belief that supporting our personnel goes beyond the badge. The PNP Eastern Police District has always been committed not only to the safety of our communities, but to the well-being of the men and women who protect them—and the families who stand behind them," said PNP-EPD Police Brigadier General Aden Lagradante. “When we give our personnel's families access to real livelihood opportunities, we are investing in their future and strengthening the foundation of our organization from within."

The partnership underscores Shopee's broader mission to build an inclusive digital economy, one that reaches not just traditional entrepreneurs but communities that stand to benefit most from access to e-commerce tools and training. As the Tatak Pinoy Roadshow continues its nationwide expansion, Shopee remains committed to finding new ways to bring digital opportunities to more Filipinos.

SM expands scholarships for uniformed personnel

The SM Group is expanding scholarship support for uniformed personnel and their families, reinforcing its push for accessible quality education as part of its broader strategy to support inclusive growth.

Through its education institutions, National University (NU) and Asia Pacific College (APC), the group is widening access to senior high school, undergraduate and graduate programs, particularly for communities with limited access to higher education.

National University  Asia Pacific College

National University (NU) Las Pinas

NU recently renewed its partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), providing up to 2,250 scholarship slots across its 15 campuses for qualified dependents and active personnel. NU is present in various cities and provinces including Manila, Laguna, Pasay, Makati, Quezon City, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Pampanga, Bacolod, Pasig, Cebu, Las Pinas, and soon in Davao.

The partnership also includes access to internship, training, and development opportunities aimed at improving employability outcomes.

Scholars may avail of a 20% discount on tuition and miscellaneous fees across all programs. The partnership also provides full scholarship to dependents of KIA (killed-in-action) uniformed personnel.

“We honor the courage and sacrifice of our soldiers who gave their lives in service to the nation. As part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Educational Benefit System Office (AFP-EBSO) community of schools, we are proud to help carry their legacy forward by supporting their families, especially their children, in pursuing quality education through scholarship opportunities,” said Mr. Rolando T. Averilla, Senior Vice President for Corporate and International Relations for NU.

A daughter of a Philippine Navy Marines officer, Jamaica Casiano, an 18-year-old first year student at NU Manila, shared that she “chose National University because it is a UAAP school known for its quality education and strong academic reputation. Being part of NU motivates me to strive harder and achieve my goals. My scholarship has relieved me from the financial burden of paying for my education, allowing me to focus fully on my studies.”

Asia Pacific College (APC), part of the SM Group, has supported 1,283 scholars from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police since 2006, helping them pursue degrees in IT, engineering, and business, programs designed to strengthen skills and open pathways for career advancement.

“Providing access to relevant, industry‑aligned education is not just an aspiration for us. It is something we actively deliver,” said APC President Dr. Ma. Teresita ‘Tata’ Medado. “Through this partnership, we meaningfully honor the service of our uniformed personnel by equipping them with education that strengthens their careers, uplifts their families, and enables them to serve their communities with even greater impact.”

Among the scholars is Lt. Junior Grade Charles Nakpil of the Philippine Navy, who graduated from APC in 2016 with a degree in BS Electronics Engineering.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity APC gave me,” said Lt. Nakpil. “The education I received at Asia Pacific College did not only strengthen me as a public servant; it also gave my family greater security and pride; and allowed me to serve alongside my colleagues with deeper confidence and competence. What I learned continues to guide how I lead, how I work, and how I support the communities we are sworn to protect.”

Separately, SM Foundation continues to support uniformed personnel through healthcare initiatives, including the provision of medical equipment and the development of healthcare facilities.

These efforts form part of SM's long-term focus on education as a lever for workforce development and broader economic participation.

These Three Food Concepts are Redefining Dining as an Experience, How GCash for Business Helps Bring Those Experiences to Life

The local food scene has never been more exciting than in the past few years. With new concepts emerging and a constant demand for something fresh, business owners are constantly thinking about how to ensure they’re set for success.

The modern dining experience is holistic, and the most successful food entrepreneurs understand that every detail shapes how a brand is remembered. Today, it’s not just about what’s on the plate. It’s about every touchpoint before and after the meal – from how customers first discover a restaurant online, to how they’re welcomed, how efficiently they’re served.

Yet across today’s food scene, the experience is constantly challenged by a recurring issue: friction and delays in payment. For three food entrepreneurs, solving this has become central to building their businesses.

Designing the full experience with the customer in mind

For one of Manila’s coolest new gelato shops, Kariton, designing the experience begins with putting the customer first.

“The name Kariton comes from the street carts many of us grew up with, so when people walk in, I want them to feel an instant sense of warmth and curiosity. It should feel approachable, not intimidating, but once you taste our gelato, you’ll realize that it’s made with serious technique and high-quality, local ingredients,” Leon Taira, Global Partner of Kariton, explains.

Kariton blends Filipino culture and nostalgia with a fun, Australian-inspired charm to use gelato as a shareable way to introduce local ingredients and culture. But because gelato melts quickly, service speed is a priority. “Very early on, we realized that small details matter a lot. Things like queue flow, signage, temperature control, portioning, and how staff greet you. At the same time, we don’t want to rush the customer, and we want to make sure we have time to tell them our story and the stories in each scoop.”

This challenge of balancing convenience with staying true to their concept is something modern food businesses, including Mariell Chuateco-Tanchip and her team at Taste & Tell, are navigating, especially after expanding from their home business into their first physical store.

“We realized dining is about the entire journey — ambiance, service, speed, and even how customers pay. Even if the food is excellent, a slow or stressful checkout can change the entire experience,” she says. “Generosity is important to us. We never want guests to feel like they’re getting less. We want them to leave full, happy, and excited to come back,” she adds.

This is echoed by Patrick Santos, owner of Nolita Joe’s, whose service philosophy marries the best of New York-style dining – which is fast-paced – without sacrificing quality. For him and his team, it’s about balancing efficiency with what guests expect and deserve.

“It’s not unusual for guests to either rave about or get annoyed at the small things, so everything should matter. Even something as seemingly minor as waiting a bit too long for the bill to be settled or having limited payment options can affect the whole experience,” she points out.

To address this friction, all three businesses have since integrated GCash for Business and tools like the new GCash SoundPay to improve both speed and service flow, especially at checkout. GCash SoundPay is a payment device that enables instant cashless transactions through QR payments with real-time voice confirmation, helping both staff and customers confirm payments instantly, without slowing down service.

“It’s made things a lot more seamless. Less friction, faster turnover, and less stress for the team. It really helps during peak hours. Faster transactions mean more turnover and better customer satisfaction,” he explains.

Embracing new tools as part of the experience

Across all three concepts, one shift is clear in modern dining: technology is an essential part of hospitality. For Leon, removing friction is key to repeat visits. “Before being able to provide cashless payment options, the common issues we would face included not having exact change and delays during peak hours. These small frictions add up and can slow down the entire service flow and ultimately affect the chances for return visits.”

For today’s young restaurateurs, success is no longer just about serving great food. It’s about the experience around it, which requires understanding customer behavior, mastering operations, and designing a seamless experience from start to finish. Throughout their journey, they have found support in solutions like GCash for Business.

GCash rolls out programs to help make everyday transactions more affordable: zero fees for Middle East transactions, free health insurance, free offline cash in, and 50% off MRT-3 rides

Filipinos can take advantage of zero transaction fees for Middle East transactions, free insurance, free offline cash-in, and 50% MRT-3 fare discount with GCash. These initiatives underscore the commitment of GCash to support Filipinos in navigating the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Extended zero fees for Middle East transactions via GCash

GCash has extended zero fees for transfers to and from the Middle East until April 30, 2026 to help ease the financial burden of its overseas Filipino users and their families amid the ongoing developments in the region and rising prices.

The super finance app has enabled Filipinos in affected areas to stay connected with loved ones and to receive assistance without added costs. This supports the national government's continuing efforts to prioritize the safety and welfare of overseas Filipinos.

Filipinos in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Israel, Lebanon, and Jordan will not be charged for their bank transfers to the Philippines and other transactions, like GLoad and GBills. Waived transaction fees will be credited back to their GCash wallet automatically via in-app cashback. Users will receive an in-app notification confirming that the cashback has been successfully credited. No registration is required.

GCash users in the Philippines can also remit money to their loved ones in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Oman for free via GCash International Transfer.

Free offline cash-in from partner merchants

GCash is offering free and instant over-the-counter cash-in of up to PHP 8,000 per month in branches of select partners. This helps ease financial strain of GCash users, especially for commuters and drivers affected by rising fuel costs.

Users can conveniently cash in at partner outlets nationwide, including Puregold, Palawan Pawnshop, Lawson, SM, MRT stations, Uncle John's, and Robinsons.

Users may also avail of this free service via Action.Able, Ayannah, Bayad Center, DA5, Dayon, ECPay, eTAP, ExpressPay, Growsari, iBayad, LBC, Pay&Go, Perahub, RD Pawnshop, Southstar Drug, Tambunting Kristal, Tambunting Amazing Gold, TouchPay, TrueMoney, Villarica Pawnshop, and ZoomPay.

With zero fees and real-time processing, users can easily add funds to their GCash wallets for daily expenses and essential purchases.

Free health insurance in every load purchase

As an added layer of protection, GCash, through its digital insurance platform GInsure, gives free health insurance, underwritten by FPG Insurance, to eligible users every time they buy prepaid load for themselves through GLoad in the GCash app.

Insurance coverage in the country is improving, but the majority of Filipinos still have limited access or coverage. With millions already using the GCash app to buy telco load, GCash aims to make insurance protection more inclusive and attainable by offering this value-added service with mobile load purchases, especially valuable amid the ongoing oil crisis that has increased the cost of living for Filipinos.

When users buy mobile load for themselves for any telco brand in GCash, they get health insurance coverage for free. First, accidental death coverage worth PHP 10,000, which can accumulate up to a maximum of PHP 30,000 when making up to three separate eligible load purchases. Second, income assistance worth PHP 500 per day when they are hospitalized due to illnesses and accidents, up to a maximum of PHP 2,500 for 5 days. Third, disablement benefits worth PHP10,000, providing the user or their beneficiaries an additional safety net. The offer is available to GCash users every time they buy load.

For more comprehensive protection and added peace of mind, GCash also offers a wide range of affordable insurance products through the GInsure marketplace, with health coverage starting as low as PHP 69 per month, providing hospitalization benefits; and accident insurance available from as low as PHP 15, offering coverage of up to PHP 500,000.

50% MRT-3 fare discount via GCash

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has implemented a discounted fare matrix for single-journey tickets, stored-value cards, and cashless payments in response to rising consumer prices since March 23, 2026. As a partner, GCash has made this available on the app.

Passengers of Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) can easily avail of the 50% discounted fare via the GCash app by using the GCash Commute QR, Tap to Pay for NFC-enabled Android phones, or GCash Visa Card. Commuters can go directly to the train platforms without lining up at the ticketing booth, making travel more convenient and seamless.

GCash payments have been up and running at MRT-3 since July 2025, and this cashless payment experience gives back as much as 30 minutes per day to commuters by making them skip the single-journey ticket lines during rush hours.

The goal is simple: to make everyday transactions more affordable, accessible, and seamless for Filipinos. GCash will continue to closely monitor developments in the region and assess the need for a possible extension of these financial relief measures as necessary.

By Runners for Runners: HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2, Developed with King of Marathon Eliud Kipchoge, Now Available for PHP 19,999

HUAWEI redefines how runners train and perform with the HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2, the lightest and most accurate titanium smartwatch in its class. The device was co-developed with King of Marathon Eliud Kipchoge, the first and only human to have covered a marathon distance in under two hours.

Long advocate for running as a universal pursuit, his “No Human Is Limited” ethos reflects a belief that running belongs to everyone, not just elite athletes, regardless of pace or distance. The HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 was powered by this idea, bringing elite-level training intelligence into the everyday routines of both recreational and competitive runners.

Powered by Kipchoge’s Experience, Built for Every Runner

Working with the DSM-Firmenich, Kipchoge’s running team, HUAWEI translated elite training insights into the HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 through more precise, real-time metrics.

Workout data is captured at one-second intervals, enabling finer analysis and quicker adjustments. Running power, refined with input from Kipchoge’s team, goes beyond heart rate to measure actual mechanical output. It offers a clearer view of effort, efficiency, and form when paired with cadence and stride data.

The device puts equal importance on how that data is delivered. Key metrics like pace, effort, and split deviations are surfaced in real time, turning the watch into a pacing companion rather than a passive tracker.

With the HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2, accuracy remains central. The watch combines a 3D floating antenna system with dual-band satellite support across major global systems to improve signal stability in dense or obstructed environments.

When signals drop, an industry-first AI-assisted XDR positioning system uses motion data to maintain consistent tracking. This ensures precise and uninterrupted records of pace and distance. That precision feeds into the Intelligent Marathon Mode, which integrates pacing, environmental data, and physiological inputs to guide runners through race conditions.

Turning Running Data Into a Smart, On-Wrist Coach

The HUAWEI GT Runner 2 extends beyond tracking into recovery and training guidance. By analyzing heart rate variability, sleep, and training load, it recommends rest and intensity adjustments, helping runners avoid overtraining and sustain progress.

Kipchoge’s career has shown that progress is built on consistency and control. This collaboration attempts to bring that same discipline to the wrist, turning elite insight into something any runner can use, one stride at a time.

Experience the Lightest, Most Accurate Titanium Smartwatch Today

The HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 is now available for PHP 19,999. From April 24 to May 31, early buyers will receive a bundle of exclusives, including a PHP 2,000 trade-in token (redeemable in-store), an in-box fluoroelastomer strap (PHP 1,999), a HUAWEI FreeArc audio wearable (PHP 4,999), and a three-month HUAWEI Health+ membership (PHP 387). The bundle also includes a one-year extended warranty and two years of accidental damage protection (PHP 3,999).

From April 24, online shoppers can also claim a PHP 2,500 voucher via the HUAWEI Online Store, or a PHP 1,000 voucher through Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop, available while supplies last.

Canon Photomarathon 2026 Marks Milestone Return, Honors Powerful Visual Storytelling in Winning Shot

When the theme "Feel It" was announced at Canon Photomarathon 2026, Von Cedrick Cunanan thought of two things: the heat and the working class. The civil engineer—one of over 1,200 participants in Canon's full-day photography and video competition—made his way to a jeepney terminal where he found his subject: a jeepney driver resting inside his vehicle in the midday heat.

"I wanted to capture what he's feeling," Cunanan said. "The heat, the tiredness, the gas prices. I wanted the judges to feel something when they saw it."

The photograph won Cunanan as the Grand Champion for the Canon Photomarathon 2026, held on April 18, 2026, at the BGC Amphitheater in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

"I saw how these types of photos can open people's eyes to what's happening around them. I'll keep doing what I'm doing," he said.

Cunanan first picked up photography as a kid, taking family photos on film cameras and plastic point-and-shoot devices. He received his first proper camera as a gift from his mother when he entered college in 2010, shooting casually before stepping away entirely around 2018. In 2025, eager to return to street photography, he researched mirrorless full-frame cameras and settled on a Canon EOS RP, drawn to its compact size, intuitive controls, and Canon’s color science.

When he came across a countdown post for the Photomarathon, he registered on the spot. "It was my first time ever to do a photomarathon, or any kind of photowalk, in fact. I wanted a chance to experience an event like this," he shared.

For his winning entry, Cunanan went on to take home a Canon EOS R6 III with RF24-105mm IS STM lens—a significant upgrade from the Canon EOS RP he was using.

Canon Photomarathon 2026 marked the return of the iconic photography competition after a seven-year hiatus, gathering creators, hobbyists, and media for a full-day celebration of photography, video, and visual storytelling. Aside from the Open Photo and Canon-exclusive Main Photo categories, this year's edition introduced a Video Category for the first time, expanding the competition beyond still images. It also opened participation to all digital camera users alongside dedicated Media and Employee categories.

The event transformed the BGC Amphitheater into a creative hub. The Canon Creator Park drew crowds with immersive setups featuring pet photography, cosplay, and bridal portrait sessions led by Canon ambassadors and professionals. On the main stage, participants joined workshops on wildlife photography with Marie Lozano and Aaron Gekowski, content creation with Gab Altonaga, Edwin Martinez on cityscape, and Ian Celis and Paolo Ruiz for EOS C50. They also got hands-on with Canon's latest imaging technologies and turned their digital captures into tangible keepsakes at on-site instant printing stations with MegaTank Printers.

"What made today special was seeing so many different kinds of creators in one place, all chasing the same thing: a moment worth capturing," said Anuj Aggarwal, President and CEO of Canon Marketing (Philippines), Inc. "Canon Photomarathon 2026 reminded us that creativity grows when people are given the room and the tools to explore it together."
