Indie – short for Independent – is a generic term that applies to all artists and bands that purposely avoid the mainstream. But who could resist the upbeat, danceable melodies of Walk The Moon, Colour Coding and Foster The People, who had seemed to make their way into the ears of millions of listeners around the world?
Earlier
this year,
WALK THE
MOON
released the
Anna Sun EP
which consists of three tracks, “Tightrope”, “Next In Line”
and the explosive first single “Anna Sun”. The music video for
“Anna Sun” recently crossed 5
Million plays on VEVO and continues
to burn up the radio charts.
The
band’s self-titled
album is produced by Ben H. Allen
and features
tracks from the Anna
Sun EP,
new songs and newly recorded versions of fan favorites off their 2010
independently released album “I
Want! I
Want!”
“We
really just wanted to create the most cohesive album we could. We
found a collection of songs and an order that we felt took the
listener through an emotional arc that we enjoyed. We'll leave it up
to the listener to find overarching themes and ideas, though we
certainly didn't set out to make a concept album or anything like
that,” said
Walk The Moon.
Next
in line is
COLOUR
CODING,
consisting of Chris Holland and Tim Commandeur, two cousins from
Sydney who make pop music together.
From
an early age, cousins Tim
and Chris
have
harbored a mutual passion for music and songwriting. By the time they
were aged 12 and 13, the boys had already recorded an EP in Tim's
father's studio, continuing to write and produce music together
throughout their teens. They have spent most of 2011 writing and
demoing songs and, last September, entered Sydney's new Hurley
Studios to record their self-produced debut EP, 'Proof'.
Last
but definitely not the least is FOSTER
THE PEOPLE, an
American indie
pop band formed in Los Angeles, California in 2009. In
early 2010, the band posted their first song “Pumped Up Kicks” on
the internet. They
released
an EP in January that includes the said hit and two other equally
contagious songs, “Houdini”
and “Helena
Beat.”
Torches, the debut studio album of Foster The People, received
generally favorable reviews from critics and was nominated for
the Grammy
Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
