Manny Pacquiao and Hidilyn Diaz dared one another at the Alaxan Showdown of the Year, share trusted companion in their triumphs through the years

Notwithstanding difficulties as world-renowned athletes, boxing legend Manny Pacquiao and weightlifting champion Hidilyn Diaz showcased their determination as they challenged one another at the recent Alaxan’s Showdown of the Year held at the Unilab Bayanihan Center.

To celebrate the coming together of Pacquiao and Diaz for Alaxan FR, the duo challenged each other by switching roles—Diaz challenged Pacquiao to lift weights while Pacquiao dared Diaz to spar. Aside from the challenges, the top-notch athletes also shared about their recent professional and personal endeavors and reveals their companion in their triumphs through the years.

Together with the pain relief medicine brand Alaxan FR, Pacquiao and Diaz, aim to empower hardworking Filipinos–the everyday champions–who continuously persevere and push their limits to achieve their goals and aspirations.

Moreover, as they continue honing their craft to level up with their respective sports, Pacquiao and Diaz, likewise demonstrate the same passion in their other endeavors.

Pacquiao recently unveiled his housing project called “Pacman Village” in Saranggani Province after he was named "ambassador for the homeless and vulnerable" by international organization Spring Rain Global. He is also dedicating his time in supporting young boxers including Mark Magsayo who held the WBC featherweight title in 2022. Pacquiao juggles these social projects with his training as he gears up for an upcoming match this 2023 in Japan.

Hidilyn Diaz, on the other hand, is undergoing rigorous training as she transitions to the 59-kg division for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics in her attempt to defend the gold after snatching it in the last Olympics in 2020. Named the Athlete of the Year by the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA), Hidilyn strives to promote weightlifting and empower young aspiring athletes, especially women, to reach their dreams.

While busy with both professional and personal ventures, Pacquiao and Diaz ensure they are accompanied by their tried and tested pain relief partner which helps them focus on being champions without worrying about body pains and without fear of any serious side effect.

Since 2001, Pacquiao has been taking Alaxan FR in fighting body pains not only from trainings but also from his non-athletic activities and endeavors.

“Alaxan FR ang naging kaagapay ko for the past 22 years. Ngayong 44 years old na ako, masasabi kong malusog at malakas pa rin ako, at ‘di ako nangangamba kapag nakararanas ng sakit ng katawan dahil sinusunod ko ang correct dose,” Pacquiao shared.

[Alaxan FR has been a reliable companion for the past 22 years. Now that I am 44 years old, I could say that I am perfectly healthy and have nothing to worry about when experiencing and treating my body pain because I always follow the correct dose.]

“Kilala ang mga Pinoy bilang masisipag kaya talagang isinasabuhay ko ‘to hanggang ngayon. Kapag weightlifter ka, hindi talaga maiiwasan ‘yong sakit ng katawan. I’m sure marami rin sa atin ang nakakaranas ng ganito sa araw-araw kaya importante na mayroong trusted companion gaya ng Alaxan na tumutulong labanan ang body pain at magpatuloy sa laban,” Diaz said.

[Filipinos are known for being hard-working and it is a value that I always keep in mind until now. As a professional weightlifter, body pains are inevitable. I’m sure many of us also experience this in our daily lives so it’s important to have a trusted companion like Alaxan that will help us beat body pains and continue moving forward.]

Trusted by many Filipinos for 50 years, Alaxan has not caused serious side effects with regard to taking this pain relief medicine. That is because it combined a lower level of Ibuprofen & Paracetamol (200mg Ibuprofen and 325mg Paracetamol). In fact, in a systematic analysis done by Cochrane in 2015, they found that “there were fewer side effects for people taking ibuprofen plus paracetamol than those taking placebo (a pretend treatment).” The study highlighted only Ibuprofen Paracetamol as having a good safety profile among all other common pain medicines that were included in the study.

“Pacquiao and Hidilyn have been icons and testaments that attaining your dreams is possible through determination. We’re very honored to have these champions who are very discerning about their health trust Alaxan, and we’re looking forward to seeing them achieve bigger things in life and in their career without worrying about body pains,” said Valerie Ifurung-Siquian from UNILAB Consumer Health.

Boxing legend and humanitarian Manny Pacquiao named 2015 Asia Game Changer of the Year; awardees will be honored at Asia Game Changer Awards Dinner and Celebration at the U.N. on October 13, 2015.

Asia Society today announced the 2015 Asia Game Changers, recognizing those making a transformative and positive difference for the future of Asia and the world. Manny Pacquiao will be honored as the 2015 Asia Game Changer of the Year, following in the footsteps of Alibaba CEO Jack Ma, who took the honor in 2014.
"The Asia Game Changer Awards address the lack of recognition for Asians who are transforming ideas into action and improving lives," said Asia Society President Josette Sheeran. "This year's honorees could not be more different from one another. They include a group of scientists, a comedian, a dancer, a fighter pilot and a boxer. What they share in common is that they all fight for a better today and inspire the world to do things differently."
While all honorees received widespread support, "one individual rose to the top of our list," said Sheeran. "Manny Pacquiao achieved his remarkable success after a childhood of extreme hunger and poverty. Today, Manny is a major humanitarian force, directing his philanthropy toward numerous causes, including education and the fight against human trafficking. He is a remarkable inspiration and demonstrates the power of giving back to transform people's lives."

China wins the bidding war against the Philippines in the final presentations to become the official host of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the FIBA Central Board announced Friday, August 7 in Tokyo, Japan.for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup hosting.

The delegations of the People's Republic of China and of the Republic of the Philippines presented clear impressions that the love of the sport is what drives them to want to host the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

China edged Philippines, which banked on the Filipinos’ passion for the sports and reach on social media in its bid for the hosting, with a presentation focusing on its strength in infrastructure, hosting experience, and resources.

The Chinese have hosted several international tournaments including the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2010 Asian Games and the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics. They will also host the upcoming 2015 Fiba Asia Championships. Last Friday, July 31, China also won the rights to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.

China also boasted of holding the Fiba World Cup, which is held every four years, in eight keys cities which are easily connected by several forms of modern transportation.

Presenters for the Philippine pitch were business tycoon and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Manny V. Pangilinan; Filipino Hollywood actor Lou Diamond Phillips; former national team player Jimmy Alapag; and former national team head coach Chot Reyes.

The Philippine bid highlighted the Southeast Asian nation's deep-rooted love affair with basketball as FIBA's ticket to achieving its goal. It also leverage the country's Internet reach as the Social Media Capital of the world.

Basketball's world governing body made the decision after a stringent process that began right after last year's World Cup in Spain, and culiminated Friday in Tokyo with 20-minute presentations from each country followed by question-and-answer sessions.

Here are some of the strong statements of intent that were made. An evident as the leading figures behind both bids addressed the media, just hours before FIBA's Central Board is set to make its decision.

Yao Ming, China 2019 Ambassador and basketball star (asked to compare, based on his visits to the Philippines, the love of basketball there compared to the love of basketball in China): "You can't say that one type of love is better than the other. Both are great. Both countries have a great passion for basketball, particularly for FIBA basketball."

Manny Pacquiao, Philippines Congressman and eight-time world boxing champion: "I am a boxer but I am here because I love basketball so that tells you the passion that Filipinos have for basketball. If we host the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, we can show that passion to the world."

Zhang Jiandong, Vice Mayor of Beijing and Chairman of the China 2019 bid committee: "At least 300 million people play basketball in China and if we host the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, we can increase that participation. China is the most populous country in the world and we can make basketball the most popular sport in the world. We believe that we can make the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup a complete success because of China's economic stability, strong financial guarantee and the government's complete support. We can make it a safe, most reliable and risk-free event."

Manuel V Pangilinan, President of the Philippines Basketball Association: "In our country, basketball is number one. Ninety percent of the population play, watch or follow the sport in one way or another. It's not just Filipinos in the Philippines that are passionate about the sport. It's Filipinos all over the world. Football may be number one in many places around the world, but basketball is number one in the Philippines."

Gao Zhidan, Vice-President of the Chinese Olympic Committee: "Basketball is very popular in China and if we host the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, we can foresee a great rise in that popularity. This will have a great impact on the professional league (CBA) as well as the university league which is developing very fast. It will help with our aim to train more athletes and get a bigger pool of talented players."

Lou Diamond Phillips, Filipino actor and director: "The Philippines has come of age and we are incredibly hopeful of geting to host the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. We are the biggest social media country and we already have more than two billion impressions of #PUSO2019."

LG Electronics and ABS-CBN bring the ‘Fight of the Century’ to more Filipinos

As the most-talked-about battle planted a milestone in world history, global technology innovator LG Electronics partnered with ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation to let more Filipinos witness this momentous event live.

On May 3, 2015 at 8:00 AM (Philippine time), the epic match between Pinoy pride Manny Pacquaio and undefeated American Floyd Mayweather came to life and brought the whole world together to see which of these world boxing champions would reign supreme.

To ensure that Filipinos would not miss out on the experience, LG and ABS-CBN held live pay-per-view sessions for free in select public areas: City of San Jose Del Monte covered courts, Philippine General Hospital, Tahanang Walang Hagdan, Quezon City Jail and Philippine National Police. LG LED TVs were mounted across these sites for as many viewers as possible to see the fight in all its glory and impactful clarity.

“We are pleased to team up once again with ABS-CBN in bringing the ‘Battle for Greatness’ to areas which may not initially have access to a live-stream,” LG Philippines Managing Director Sung Woo Nam said. “Even though Mayweather won this fight, Pacquiao won the hearts of many and did the Philippines proud. DDB Group Philippines, PCW shine the spotlight on the ‘bigger fight’ in society: violence against women

As the world awaits the “Fight of the Century” between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr., advocates of anti-violence against women wish to bring to light the “bigger fight” that is happening almost every day in Filipino homes – that of domestic violence.

DDB Group Philippines has collaborated with the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) to shine the spotlight on violence against women to open everyone’s eyes on fights that have not been getting the kind of attention that they should be getting.

The much anticipated square-off between two of the greatest fighters of this generation is deemed as the best time to create awareness and gather support for the different kinds of violence being committed by males versus women. Not to mention that Pacquiao’s nemesis, Mayweather, has a record of committing this kind of offenses.

DDB Group Philippines and its subsidiary Tribal Worldwide, have come up with a campaign that will ride on the May 3 super fight to help the Philippine Commission on Women to create awareness on the often neglected plight of women under their abusive fathers, husbands, male relatives or boyfriends.

In a series of posters shared online and on-ground, in bus ads and newspapers, and strategically placed side-by-side with Pacquiao vs. Mayweather promotional materials, DDB Group Philippines brings this issue out of the shadows and gets people talking, so they can prevent domestic violence from happening.

DDB Group Philippines Chairman Gil G. Chua said, “As a group, we at DDB Philippines always try to do our share in making the world a better place, and supporting the fight against domestic violence is just one of our ways to achieve this. We live by our founder Bill Bernbach’s words that ‘All of us who professionally use the mass media are the shapers of society. We can vulgarize that society. We can brutalize it. Or we can help lift it onto a higher level’.”

For her part, PCW Executive Director Emmeline Verzosa said, “Violence against women cuts across all race, religion, age, social demographics and sexuality. It threatens the security of half of humanity and is rooted in men’s desire for ultimate power and control over women. We must put a stop to it.”

Statistics have shown that one in five women ages 15-49 have or are continuing to suffer from domestic violence and intimate relationship violence since age 15. In 2010, cases of VAW reported to the Philippine National Police (PNP) rose to 59 percent, with majority of the victims knowing their attackers.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal

What the world has been waiting for has arrived. Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao agree to May 2 fight.
(Photo: Photo illustration: USA TODAY Sports/Getty Images)
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will finally face one another in the ring on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will finally give boxing the mega-fight fans and observers have craved for years after it was announced on Friday that the pair will face off for unified welterweight championship on May 2 at Las Vegas's MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Floyd Mayweather posted a picture showing the signed contract on Friday night. Photograph: Floyd Mayweather
As part of the agreement for what will be the most lucrative showdown in fight history, Mayweather made the announcement via his account on the social media web site Shots.com, bringing to an end years of frustration and conjecture that seemed destined to keep the sport's two highest-profile athletes apart.

"This is the right fight for boxing," Pacquiao said in a statement. "Floyd Mayweather and I is the fight boxing fans have wanted for years and I am looking forward to it. I will be representing my fans and my country and trying to bring glory to the Philippines."

There were countless stumbling blocks in the way of the fight, which was first discussed as far back as 2009 and fell apart on several occasions over issues such as drug testing, the fractious relationship between the two promotional camps and simple stubbornness.

The failure to bring together the two most marketable mainstream stars of recent times was increasingly becoming a black mark on the sport, and there had been so many false dawns that most boxing fans had become resigned to the bout never taking place.

However, negotiations steadily picked up pace since end of last year and overcame a major hurdle when rival cable companies Showtime (which has an exclusive deal with Mayweather) and HBO (which broadcasts Pacquiao fights) agreed to a split arrangement whereby both could sell the contest on pay per view.

"Everyone involved, including Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, knows this fight simply had to happen. All of us are thrilled to be able to deliver this event to boxing fans around the world. Now, for the second time under his current deal with Showtime Networks, Floyd Mayweather has agreed to fight an opponent that many people thought he'd never face.

Ken Hershman, the President, HBO Sports said: "Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have been the two most prominent fighters in the sport of boxing for the past decade, and fight fans around the world have been clamoring for them to face each other... May 2nd will be a signature moment for the sport of boxing and HBO Sports is thrilled to be a part of this spectacular event."

Mayweather will go into the fight as favorite, yet it can safely be considered by far his toughest test in recent times. He turns 38 next week, while Pacquiao is 36, and while neither man is at his peak, it is without question the most compelling match-up boxing has to offer.

People all around the world are looking forward to another record-breaking performance this coming May. This grand fight will make history on May 2nd.

People’s Champ’ Manny Pacquiao renews commitment with Habitat for Humanity

Sarangani representative and ‘People’s Champ’ Manny Pacquiao renewed his commitment to be an Ambassador and spokesperson for Habitat for Humanity Philippines.

Pacquiao signed a new memorandum of agreement on January 5, 2015 indicating his commitment to support Habitat for Humanity’s “WeBuild Campaign”, which is kicking off early this year. The agreement also outlines the congressman’s P5-million donation, which will be used to partially fund 195 houses for families in Glan, Sarangani.

The families — mostly composed of fisherfolk and sari-sari store vendors — will be living in “Pacman-Tata Yap Ville” in Barangay Tango in Glan, a housing project of the congressman.

Each duplex unit is 32 square metres on an 80-square metre lot area. The 2.8-hectare site includes a multipurpose centre, a community park and a concrete stage that can be used for community’s special events.

Pacquiao also announced plans to purchase more land for permanent houses, much to the delight of his constituents.

“Manny” The Movie

“Manny”

“By the end of the film, I want people to feel like they know him as just Manny. Not Congressman Pacquiao, not the People’s Champion, not the boxer with 10 world titles, but the guy who you could be on a first name basis with because you feel him. Be it a boxing legend, icon, politician, religious leader, or father, I ultimately want Pacquiao to be known as Manny, the man.” - - - Ryan Moore

After making waves at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin Texas, where it made its world premiere, Filipino fans finally had the chance to watch MANNY, a documentary about the Filipino boxing champion.

Manny is the untold story of Manny Pacquiao, one of the most celebrated boxers to ever enter the ring since Muhammad Ali. It chronicles the inspirational tale of how one penniless kid rose from poverty to become one of boxing’s most revered icons.

Relive some of his greatest matches, and rivalries as he moves up the ranks and takes his place in history as the only boxer to become an eight division champion.

Sourced from over 1200 hours of video footage Pacquiao generously shared with Producer/Director Ryan Moore, the movie likewise provides an in-depth look into Pacquiao’s personal life not only as a boxer, superstar, Congressman, and man of faith, but above all, a man.

Narrated by Liam Neeson and filled with insightful and sometimes humorous interviews with Hollywood celebrities such as Mark Wahlberg, Jimmy Kimmel, Jeremy Piven, etc. you don’t need to be a fan of boxing or even Pacquiao himself to enjoy this well-made narrative of triumph against unbelievable odds.

Catch Manny in its limited theatrical run until Tuesday in cinemas nationwide.

Manny is distributed by Solar Entertainment Corporation.
