ICYMI: Grab reintroduces GrabPet, delights Filipino pet parents
GrabPet, as a specialized on-demand service, is designed to help passengers ferry their pets to various destinations, including veterinary clinics, groomers, pet-friendly cafes, and more with just a tap of a button. Initially available in select areas of Metro Manila, GrabPet-ready driver-partners are all set to onboard dogs, cats, turtles, hamsters, rabbits, and fish on rides.
To ensure top-notch transportation for GrabPet passengers, animal-loving driver-partners with spacious six-seater vehicles were purposefully tapped for the GrabPet fleet, even undergoing comprehensive training in handling pet-related bookings. All GrabPet rides also come with added insurance to ensure the well-being of the pets on board.
“As a pet parent myself, I understand how challenging it can be for Filipinos to bring their animal companions to essential services and even leisure trips given the limited transportation options available. As an expression of our dedication to addressing the varying transportation needs of commuters, we have launched GrabPet. It is our firm belief that safe, reliable, and convenient mobility services should be accessible to everyone – even families with winged or four-legged friends,” shares Grab Philippines Chief Operating Officer Ronald Roda.
Working Together for Above-Par, Pet-Friendly Rides
In a bid to safeguard both the safety and convenience of passengers as well as to preserve the pristine condition of the driver-partners' vehicles, Grab Philippines has enforced a set of requirements for individuals utilizing the GrabPet service.
●
Pets should be accompanied by
human passengers.
●
Pet owners should also refrain
from booking rides for pets with parasites and/or fleas
●
Pet owners can bring a maximum of
two small and medium-sized pets or one large pet per ride, subject to the
discretion of the GrabPet Driver-Partner.
●
A maximum of four passengers can
accompany the pet(s) during the ride.
● Pets are also required to be in diapers and inside carriers.
Roda adds, “We are committed to ensuring that owners and their pets are safely and conveniently transported to their intended destination while also preserving the integrity of the vehicle of our driver-partners. A driver-partner’s vehicle is their means of livelihood, hence by collaborating with us in maintaining high hygiene and safety standards during the GrabPet ride, pet parents help in making sure that our driver-partners can go about their day worry- and hassle-free.”

Tips for new and seasoned pet owners on how to keep happy, healthy pets
Pets offer unconditional love to their families, and as such, it is every pet parent’s responsibility to ensure that their pets are also living their best and healthiest lives. So if you’re planning to be a first-time pet parent or a pet parent looking for tips on how to care for your pets better, here are some tips to take into consideration.
Ensure that
your pet can thrive in the environment you’re in
Yes, pets are cute and are a joy to have around but the first step for any prospective pet owner is to gauge if the pet you want to take care of can thrive in the environment you’re living in. In the Philippines, that means looking for pets that can live in tropical climates.
For furry animals like cats and dogs, this means looking for breeds that have the right kind of coats and body structures. Otherwise, pet parents should invest in creating the right environment for their pets, including proper temperature regulation and ventilation.
Feed
your pets food that’s proper and healthy for them
A responsible pet parent should always do research on what to feed their pets. Like humans, pets can have intolerances, allergies, and even food that are poisonous for them. It’s important to learn about what a proper, balanced diet is like for your pet and this can be done through research and through consultations with your veterinarian.
Exercise
your pets
Pets need exercise, as this not only helps them burn their energy but also keeps them limber and mentally and physically healthy, as in the case of dogs. Just make sure that the type of exercise you give your pets is appropriate for them, as different pets and breeds require different kinds of exercise.
Keep up
with their checkups and vaccinations
Taking care of pets is very much like taking care of ourselves–they need proper nutrition, exercise, and regular medical checkups. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, all pets should receive a physical medical examination at least once a year. These visits include regular vaccinations and treatments to ensure that they are healthy, as unlike humans, pets may not be able to communicate or show outward signs of disease or injury–things a trained veterinarian can spot and provide treatment and guidance on.
Invest
in pet insurance
Routine vet visits and even unexpected medical emergencies can put strain on a pet owner’s finances, which is why it’s important to consider getting a pet insurance product like Pet Insure,
Pet Insure is a customized non-life product specifically designed to protect the health of dogs no matter their breed, allowing dog parents to fully address the needs of their fur babies, including emergencies and accidents.
Regional insurtech Igloo, together with Malayan Insurance and GCash, created Pet Insure to afford owners convenience and security as it offers three-in-one coverage that includes medical reimbursement for veterinary care up to a maximum of P100,000; owner's liability coverage of up to a maximum of P250,000; and a personal accident cover for dog owners worth P50,000 for as low as P650 for a one-month coverage on the GCash GInsure marketplace.
Having pets is a huge responsibility, and
every pet owner must recognize the importance of ensuring that their pets are
healthy, thriving, and happy. Learn more about how Pet Insure can protect your
pet here.

Pets Approved: Travel with your furry friends with Airbnb this festive season
More than 3 million pets have checked into Airbnb
since last November. As

almost one-fifth of all Philippines listings on Airbnb, a 44% increase compared
to June 20192. The top
ten destinations for pet-friendly travel in the Philippines in Q2 2022 are:
● Manila, Metro Manila
● Baguio, Cordillera
● Patuto, Calabarzon
● Quezon City, Metro Manila
● Taguig, Calabarzon
● Cebu City, Central Visayas
● Olongapo, Central Luzon
● Nasugbu, Calabarzon
● San Fernando, Ilocos
● Calamba, Calabarzon
Amanpreet Singh Bajaj, Airbnb’s General Manager for Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong and Taiwan said that when it comes to pet-friendly Airbnb stays, owners are seeking stays with additional space for their furry friends, often in locations outside capital cities.
“If you’re an avid pet lover, you’ll know that no holiday is quite complete without taking your family pet along. We have something for even the fussiest four-legged family members, and certainly, homes with spacious yards and deck areas are always among the most popular for guests with pets,” Bajaj added.
In the Philippines, over
15,000 guests have traveled with their pets on Airbnb3. To
inspire more fur moms and dads planning to bring their pet friends on their
next getaways, here are some amazing pet-friendly listings in the Philippines
— from spacious homes with huge
backyards for your pets to roam to stays co-hosted by equally hospitable
pooches!
Spacious farms for the
zoomies
If you’re itching for a quick weekend away from the 9-to-5 routine, these farm stays that are drivable from Manila can certainly give you and your fur baby that relaxing getaway you both deserved.
● The Alperi Farm is a newly built private farmhouse in
Amadeo sitting on an expansive 2,000 sqm — perfect for non-stop fetch and the
occasional zoomies. Offering guests plenty of opportunities to unplug and bond
with loved ones (pets included!), the farmhouse comes with entertainment and
activity options including a playhouse, bird sanctuary, a gym, and even a
theater and arcade room.
● Another farmstay south of the metro is Campo Canueza, which provides the best of both mountain views and beach access. It has a two-storey air-conditioned bahay kubo, a private pool, and an expansive space where you can freely walk your pets. At night, you can pitch a tent outside and enjoy uninterrupted views of the night sky.
Beachfront homes for the
water-loving breeds
While some will just dip a toe, other dogs are born for the water — and will be truly delighted to hit the beach. Head on to these beachfront stays if you and your canine companion are dreaming of sands in your toes and paws.
● Saya Nest is one of the seven nests hosted by proud
fur-mom and Airbnb Host, Tamara. Located in the rainforest of Subic Bay, it
lies just a few minutes from the beaches and falls. There is a fenced-in patio
so your pets can run off-leash, a bathtub overlooking the forest, an outdoor
table and grill, and a hammock by the porch. If you’re lucky, you might even be
welcomed by Tamara’s own fur babies!
● If you and your pet are up for a little island adventure — check out this Beachfront Loft in Palawan. It is located in a 2-hectare beachfront community in Aborlan just south of Puerto Princesa, and sits right by the sandy beach. Go boating with your pet by day and warm up around the bonfire at night while listening to the calming waves.
Breathtaking views for your
best bud
Looking for vacation rentals with picturesque views where you
can bring your fur babies? Search no further! These homes are not only
pet-friendly — they make you want to bask in the scenery and stay for longer.
● Anto House is a secluded farm nestled in the
highlands of Antipolo, offering a 360-degree view overlooking the distant Metro
Manila skyline, Angono hills and ridges, and the Laguna de Bay. Featuring two
beautiful bamboo casitas that can accommodate up to 14 guests, it’s perfect for
family gatherings and even reunions. There are also animals on the property
like goats and sheep that both kids and fur kids can interact with.
● How about calling an entire island your home for the weekend? This rustic, tiny island is right in the middle of Lumot Lake, with astounding views of the Sierra Madre mountain ranges. If your fur bud’s love language is quality time, you can set up a mini obstacle course, go swimming at the lake, or simply just watch the world go by.
