Philippine Airlines (PAL) plans to resume selected international flights in June

Philippine Airlines (PAL) plans to fly a reduced number of weekly flights on “most” domestic routes and “selected” international routes starting June 1.

PAL has suspended all domestic and international flights to and from its hubs in Manila, Cebu and Clark until May 31.

PAL will announce the list of operating flights and routes for June “once the details are finalised”. It added that the resumptions of flights in June depends on “Covid-19 conditions” as well as “community quarantine restrictions”, travel bans imposed by various governments and “their impact on passenger demand”, and the “safety situation” in the destinations PAL is offering flights to.

In March, the Philippines imposed an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon, which is a total lockdown that restricts movement except for necessity, work, and health circumstances, in response to the coronavirus crisis. On May 12, the government announced that only Metro Manila and Laguna in Luzon would be under a modified ECQ from May 16 to May 31, according to Bloomberg.

The Philippines, like a number of governments worldwide, has issued entry restrictions and quarantine requirements in light of the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Currently, Philippine citizens and their foreign spouse/children are permitted to enter, but must undergo a 14-day home quarantine on arrival. Passengers travelling on a diplomatic passport can also travel to the country, but they will also be subject to a 14-day quarantine on arrival.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Philippines has 14,669 confirmed coronavirus cases, among those 886 deaths as of May 27.

Magical Sapporo awaits with Philippine Airlines

Find out why this storybook Japanese location should be your next destination

MANILA, January 3, 2019 – Among the country’s many urban cities packed with world-famous sites and landmarks to marvel at, here’s one equally as exciting yet possibly more beautiful: Sapporo, the most magical city of them all. Nestled in the northern island of Hokkaido (yes, like the famous milk tea flavor) are the sprawling storybook hills that make up the fifth largest – not to mention one of the most livable – cities in the country. Discover why it’s found its way to be Japan’s hidden gem when it comes to beer, skiing, and celebrating the winter months!

Immerse yourself in a celebration of snow. Imagine experiencing winter in a city that loves the season so much, it created a festival around it! After the warmth of a full-service PAL flight onboard the new A321 Neo, explore Sapporo’s snowy mountains and witness a winter wonderland that’s nothing short of enchanting. From its humble beginnings of 6 high school students building ice carvings in 1950, the festival has grown to bewitch locals and tourists alike through the years. Bask in chilly amazement at over 400 ice sculptures (some even life-sized!) and thrilling ice slides, navigate your way through ice mazes, catch top musical acts on-stage, even cheer for your favorites at the Queen of Ice beauty pageant! Not bad for simply ticking the Sapporo Snow Festival off your bucket list, isn’t it?

Culture comes with every season. It’s not all snow-covered roads for this city, though. Visitors can be sure that Sapporo has enough year-round excitement to keep everyone entertained. In the spring (which comes a few months after the rest of the country) visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms in full bloom, without the rest of the tourist crowds. Come summer, the city brims with lavender fields, music festivals, and beach events – best enjoyed with decadent ice cream crafted with world-renowned Hokkaido milk. And finally for autumn, when nature turns into a beautiful palette of orange and yellow hues, people indulge in a grand gastronomic feast at the Sapporo Autumn Festival.

Add brand new things to your bucket list, the Sapporo way. Drop by Japan’s only Beer Museum – it’s where the country’s world-famous beer brand gets its name. Love Royce’s Chocolate? Make sure to stop by Royce’s Chocolate World and witness chocolate artisans work their magic. Trade train rides for a picturesque view aboard a street car with old-world charm. Slurp down a bowl of Hokkaido’s specialty dish, miso butter corn ramen, and don’t be shy about asking for seconds! Relive the scenes from the sensational film Kita Kita, maybe even make a friend or two as you explore the city.

Make way for mountainside cityscapes. Sapporo is a majestic mix of nature and urban living, a timeless display of Japan just a bit different from what the rest of the world is used to. It’s a sight to behold; its lush flower farms filled with vibrant hues, quaint canals to pass through on boat, charming architecture barely over a century old. It’s no wonder many have carefully stepped into this place only find themselves falling deeply in love with the city.

Head over to Japan’s northern paradise and discover firsthand how it has cast its spell on everyone who’s paid it a visit. How to get there? Don’t worry, there’s a 4-star airline that flies to that destination 3x weekly! Only Philippine Airlines can take you there aboard the new Airbus A321 Neo, non-stop from Manila to Sapporo’s new Chitose Airport. Begin and end your storybook vacation with comfortable seats, inflight meals, and that signature heartfelt service you can get only with PAL. Not just that, get to take home even more wonderful souvenirs with free baggage allowance! After all, there’s something magical about Sapporo, and it’s definitely worth uncovering for your next destination.

PAL'S Brand-new Airbus A350 & A321neo Planes

Inflight comfort and luxury are redefined with Philippine Airlines’ (PAL) brand-new Airbus A350-900 XWB and A321neo airplanes. Generous legroom, enhanced entertainment, and high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity await passengers across all travel classes beginning July 2018.

“PAL aims to provide excellent standards of service for its passengers throughout the entire travel experience and be at par with the world’s best airlines. We are taking our flights to the next level by modernizing our fleet and enhancing our cabin amenities and inflight offerings, on top of ensuring that we consistently provide that distinct brand of heartfelt service PAL is known for," said PAL President and COO Dr. Jaime J. Bautista.

“The arrival of the Airbus A350 and A321neo forms part of our journey towards attaining our goal of being the only 5-Star airline in the next few years from our 4-Star global airline rating.", he added.

In partnership with airline design specialist LIFT Strategic Design, PAL equipped the new planes with both function and form in mind, promising an enhanced passenger experience.

“With state-of-the-art modifications based on the latest technologies, these new aircraft will bring more benefits not only to passengers and crew but to the environment as well,” said Bautista.

Here are four things you can expect from PAL’s brand-new planes:

A Whole New World of Flights

These planes unlock PAL’s true potential with the new long-range aircraft capable of flying non-stop, up to 17 hours for the A350 and up to 8 hours for the A321neo.

The new A350 will open a whole new world of access to long-haul destinations in North America and Europe. Starting October 2018, passengers can enjoy travelling to New York City nonstop for the first time in ultimate comfort and style with the introduction of the A350’s Tri-Class cabin experience. The A321neo, on the other hand, has commenced non-stop flights to Brisbane last July 2nd and will soon explore Sydney, Port Moresby, and Sapporo.

Space for Days (Or hours)

The new A350 and A321neo pack an impressive space in the cabin so that every passenger, regardless of class of service, enjoys the maximum comfort possible during the flight. These new aircraft also feature an innovative cabin layout and seat design.

Business Class passengers aboard the A321neo can enjoy full-flat seats up that extend up to 78 inches, a first in PAL’s narrow-body fleet and a first for A321neos worldwide. Meanwhile, all Business Class passengers aboard the A350 have direct access to the aisle with the 1-2-1 seat configuration.

Business Class passengers aboard the A350 enjoy top-level comfort that matches the best competitors globally with seats that can be reclined to full-flat beds, equipped with adjustable air cushions and massage functions. Plus, with enhanced amenities and services such as our new plush duvets and Dine-on-Demand meal service, passengers can expect a cozier and more enjoyable long-haul journey.

The Premium Economy Class onboard the A350 – a first of its kind to be offered on PAL’s destinations in the US Mainland and the UK – offers passengers an upgraded experience without the lavish price tag, with 38-inches of legroom and seats that can recline up to eight inches. Passengers seated in the Premium Economy Class also enjoy privacy and exclusivity with only 24 seats available and a dedicated lavatory in the cabin.

Economy Class on the A350 has also been enhanced with seats that recline up to six inches and a spacious legroom with seat pitch of up to 33 inches, offering industry leading comfort.

Put Boredom Behind
The A350 and A321neo provides more options and control to passengers seeking personal entertainment during a long-haul flight. All seats are equipped with personal TV screens with an up-to-date selection of movies, TV shows, music and more for every generation.

Starting October 2018, passengers will have more control to select content from their mobile phone aboard the A350 via the myPAL Player App. Guests simply need to download the app, pair it up the personal TV screen assigned, and have full control on the entertainment.

The A350 boasts of having the first high-speed Wi-Fi in the PAL fleet – so you can surf and watch videos on Facebook or YouTube, or even shop online starting October 2018. The new aircraft is also equipped with experience-enhancing mood lighting with scenes designed specifically for PAL, giving the cabin a “distinctly PAL” ambiance.

Less Noise, More R&R

You can sleep soundly when flying via the A350 and the A321neo — their state-of-the-art engines produce less noise both inside and outside the cabin, compared to other previous-generation aircraft. In fact, the A350 has four times less noise than its competitor aircraft, making it the quietest twin-aisle aircraft to date.

The arrival of the A350 and A321neo is just a preview of what PAL has up its sleeves. Committed to providing Filipinos a better flying experience, PAL expects a total of 27 new aircraft - with 6 A350s and 21 A321neos – bringing the average age of the flag carrier’s fleet to 5 years by end-2018. The arrival of new planes is an exciting phase in the flag carrier’s journey towards a 5-Star Skytrax Rating in 2020.

Advisory : PAL tells passengers: Be at airport 5 hours before departure

MANILA - Philippine Airlines on Tuesday advised passengers of international flights to be at the airport up to five hours before departure in anticipation of long lines at immigration counters.

"Please come early in anticipation of long immigration lines," the flag carrier said.

Immigration officers have gone on mass leave to protest alleged non-payment of overtime work.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre, who said more than 30 personnel have resigned and 50 others are on leave, admitted that the problem may extend until the Holy Week.

Read full advisory below:
"Tinatawagan ng pansin ang mga pasahero ng Philippine Airlines na paalis patungong ibang bansa: Sikaping makarating sa airport (NAIA Terminal 2) para makapag-check-in sa inyong flight ng apat hanggang limang (4-5) oras bago ang takdang oras ng lipad dahil sa kakulangan ng tauhan sa Immigration counters na nagdudulot ng mahabang pila. Agahan po ang pagpunta sa airport dahil mahaba ang pila sa Immigration. Salamat po."

Manila International Aviation Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal insisted, however, that they have a "contingency plan" to ensure normal operation despite the mass leave.

Air passengers to use E-Tickets

Effective immediately, printed tickets no longer mandatory at airports.

"This is another simple step to improve access to basic government services," the DOJ said. "We shall continue to work with all stakeholders to inject common sense and process logic into our systems."
The Bureau of Immigration and Deportation will no longer require passengers to present printed copies of their plane tickets as mandated by the Department of Justice (DOJ)

This is in line with the recent order (Operations Order No. 2013-003) from DOJ entitled Removing the Requirement of Presentation of the Printed Hard Copy of Return and/or Onward Passage Ticket which allows air passengers to use E-Tickets displayed on a mobile device such as smartphones and/or tablets in lieu of hard copies of the ticket.

The new ruling applies for all international airports around the country including the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Ismael Augusto Gozon, Senior Vice President of Operations for Philippine Airlines, indicated that the airline is planning direct flights to two countries in Europe by year end. The flights would be to one of the previously announced planned destinations of London, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, and Madrid. "We will fly to two European destination before the end of the year," said Gozon. "We will likely use the Airbus A340 or Boeing 777 for the direct flights to Europe.

The European Union lifted the ban on Philippine Airlines flights to Europe on July 12 paving the way for the carrier to restore direct service to the continent by the end of this year. "We have to apply for everything all over again. We literally have to start from zero," said Gozon. "We will really try to fly there before the end of the year."

London remains a high priority as one of the initial destinations for Philippine Airlines. It was revealed that the newly proposed target date for direct service to London will be December 2013 as the airline has faced delays in obtaining regulatory approvals. Philippine Airlines is expected to use London Gatwick airport as the airline's gateway to the United Kingdom and may initially use the recently acquired A340-300 aircraft to operate the service.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aeronautics Board has taken initial steps to reopen talks with Italy and France in order to establish fresh air service agreements that can support the expansion of Philippine Airlines. Discussions are expected to be held with Rome and Paris within the next six months. According to Carmelo Arcillo, CAB Executive Director, discussions with Rome for flights to Fiumcino Airport are scheduled for September 4-5, 2013 while discussions with France for resumption of service to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport is not scheduled until January 2014.

Philippine Airlines recently announced that it would be transferring the majority of its domestic operations to its subsidiary PAL Express in order to concentrate on higher yielding international long haul routes. But according to Brendan Sobie, analyst at the Centre for Aviation Asia Pacific, it is a risky move that will further strain the carrier's limited resources. "It's a high-risk venture. Re-establishing an airline on long-haul routes that are intensely competitive is an expensive proposition with huge, upfront costs," said Sobie. Ramon Ang, President of PAL, has taken a contrarian approach since assuming control and management of Philippine Airlines. The carrier reported losses of $95 million in 2012.
