A grand reward for selfless love: Loyal PLDT customer wins P5 million in Grand Giveaway promo

Years spent on taking care of his parents while keeping ties stronger through phone calls with family were rewarded when 57-year-old Rod from Manila won P5 million from the first-ever PLDT Home Rewards Grand Giveaway promo.

A loyal subscriber of PLDT for 38 years, Rod received an SMS sent to customers, encouraging them to register to PLDT Home Rewards, which automatically qualifies them to join the raffle. “I decided to join just because, and I didn’t think I’d actually win,” he said. “So, imagine my surprise when I got that phone call from a PLDT Home representative. I didn’t believe it at all at first!”

The youngest in a brood of six, Rod resigned from his office job in Makati to take care of his ailing parents full time. “I never considered it a sacrifice on my part. I’m glad that I was there for them in their final years.”

Rod said that his phone line was his connection to his siblings, three of whom are already based overseas.

“It’s been years since I last saw them, but we never lost touch and would always update one another through frequent calls,” he said. “My older sister said, maybe this is your prize from heaven. It’s our parents’ way of thanking you for your selflessness.”

Since it’s been ages since he and his siblings last got together, he’s musing if winning the grand cash prize could be a sign for a family reunion, especially with overseas travel restrictions now being eased. “They’ve been teasing me, calling me don or boss! I’d love to see them and my nephews and nieces soon!”

MNL48 makes a long-awaited comeback with 7th single “No Way Man”


After a year of tough preparations, MNL48 finally returns with its 7th single “No Way Man,” a dance-centric song with a message that mirrors the girl group’s can-do attitude in the midst of challenges.

“No Way Man” is led by center girl MNL48 Abby with Senbatsu members Sheki, Jamie, Ruth, Ella, Jan, Andi, Jem, Yzabel, Princess, Lara, Coleen, Rianna, Lyza, Dana, and Dian. The single has been a long time coming for the girls due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing restrictions it entailed for big groups.

MNL48 coach Angel referred to the single as “unforgettable” not just because of its difficult choreography but also for what the girls went through while rehearsing for the song.

“We've been training for a year for this and it's really hard for them to catch up because we had to do it online. They've experienced a lot of things and the lyrics really speak of everything that we've been through,” she said.

Meanwhile, center girl MNL48 Abby gave props to her members and their MNLoves for inspiring her to do her best.

“I witnessed every member gave their very best for a quality comeback. At first I doubted if I could do this but I always kept in mind that I have a good support system in my sisters, co-members, and the MNL48 fans who kept encouraging and believing in me.”
