Skin Magical’s Ghie Pangilinan makes milestone birthday memorable

Skin Magical is celebrating its fifth anniversary with the formal launch of Maja Salvador, and Joseph Marco as latest ambassadors.

Skin Magical top honcho Ghie Pangilinan turned 40 last Sept. 11 while the country is still in the quarantine period due to the coronavirus pandemic. Thus, she decided to take her birthday celebration one step further by making it a good reason for other people to be joyful as well. Ghie opted to share her most treasured day with the elderly being taken care of at the Haven for the Elderly in Tanay, Rizal.

Bags of groceries and bundles of assorted clothes were brought in at the retirement home with her staff members distributing them to each lolo and lola who thanked her profusely for her kindness and generosity. They were equally delighted by the sumptuous foods prepared on the table. Everyone expressed appreciation at how Ghie would always remember to celebrate her treasured day with them since 2014. And during this quarantine season, Ghie sends them goods without fail.

Her over 400 employees were likewise treated to a special feast by serving them by batches and observing physical distancing throughout the day. Each received five kilos of rice and a gift from the lady boss.

Ghie also distributed sacks of rice to her neighbors and to all the tricycle drivers of Sitio Butig, Brgy San Pedro in Morong, Rizal, where the Skin Magical manufacturing plant is  located.

“They were the ones who first came to my mind when I was thinking of how to make my hitting the big 4-0 a truly happy one. Sila ‘yung nadadaanan ko bago pumasok sa aming planta,” said Ghie, also fondly known as MGP. “With the blessings that I’ve been receiving, it is always a must for me to share them to people who have been supporting us. At sa dami ng natanggap ko na birthday gifts, I really felt it’s just but right to gift others.”

Ghie added, “I truly believe that even the smallest good deed can trigger a whole series of bigger, better deeds. My great satisfaction comes from giving (blessings) to others.”

Her husband-cum-business partner Jerry Pangilinan, on the other hand, made it a point to be the first to greet the celebrator with a special cake, bouquet of flowers and a jewelry set.

Ghie was also surprised to receive beautiful cakes from celebrity endorsers of her various brands like Dimples Romana, Jolina Magdangal, Joseph Marco, Anna Cay, Lars Pacheco, DJ Loonyo, Tim and China, Viy Cortez and Cong TV and Agsunta for Skin Magical; JaMill and Mannex for Speaks G; and Ivana Alawi or Tea Talk.

Other cakes and surprises came from her suppliers and distributors, staff in the Marketing, Production and Sales departments as well as from such collaborators and partners as Edna Abong of The Philippine STAR; Verde Creatives; Karen Namora of My Puhunan; and Rocel Reynon.

“My goal is to continue to inspire many Filipinos through my locally made brands, and to soar high like butterflies with integrity and determination,” stressed Ghie, who apart from Skin Magical, also operates Pore It On Cosmeceuticals Solutions, Inc. with husband Jerry.

Incidentally, Skin Magical is celebrating its fifth anniversary with the formal launch of Maja Salvador, and Joseph Marco as the latest ambassadors.

Every week, Ghie is giving away exciting prizes to five Skin Magical patrons by joining in the promo. Check out the skincare brand’s social media accounts for the mechanics.

“Skin Magical is committed to providing a better opportunity to all aspiring ‘beautypreneurs’ and offering high-quality products to consumers. Hindi man tayo makapag-celebrate together since mass gatherings are still prohibited, we have lots of surprises for you, butterflies,” she declared.

Connected with internet at home, here's how to make the most out of your home WiFi

With families usually sharing a single home broadband plan to have  internet connection  at home, there is a need to properly provide internet connection in every nook and cranny inside the house.  This enables members of the family to find their own personal corner to study, work, entertain, or simply surf with privacy.

Understanding the hindrances to good connectivity

To enjoy good home connectivity, first, we need to understand what hinders wireless signals. Some obstacles can easily be addressed but there are physical hindrances that are impractical to remove. Walls, especially those made of thick reinforced concrete and thick timber, can block or weaken wireless signals.  The same applies to houses with multiple storeys. The signal from a WiFi router placed on the first floor is unlikely to reach the higher floors because of the building materials used.

So how do you get the most out of your WiFi especially when everyone is simultaneously connected to the internet?  Here are some tips to improve your home internet experience.

  1. Pick a good spot for your modem.   It should be placed in the part of the house where space is open and free of walls, bookshelves, cabinets and other installations. Routers should not be placed near a metal object or appliance that emits electromagnetic waves such as washing machines, TVs, electric razors, dishwashers and microwave ovens to mention a few.

  1. Make sure that your Bluetooth, baby monitors, walkie-talkies and other two-way radios are turned off as they can interfere with WiFi signals and may result in your disconnection to the internet.

  1. Remove WiFi vampires. An encrypted and protected password is very important to prevent unwelcome connections to your WiFi network.

  1. Control bandwidth-consuming apps. Remember it takes only one bandwidth hungry app to slow down your connection.  If using the internet for entertainment, download only from legitimate sources.  Practice #PlayItRight.

  1. Reboot. Whenever there is a slowing down of connection try to reboot, unplug and replug your router.  Reboot at least once a month to ensure good connectivity.  Sometimes you may also need to reboot your laptop or smartphone if rebooting the router doesn't do the trick.

  1. Get your provider to install mesh devices inside your home to eliminate WiFi dead spots and ensure internet connection for each family member's personal corner. Unlike WiFi repeaters and signal extenders, WiFi Mesh doesn’t split up your  internet connection’s bandwidth. Don’t give in to the allure of online shops offering boosters and extenders that sacrifice speed and quality for coverage.  Never install illegal repeaters or illegal signal boosters.  Get these only from your authorized network provider.

Globe’s TP-Link Deco M5 WiFi Mesh Devices can help widen home WiFi overage in more areas of your house. TP-Link WiFi Mesh technology creates a whole home WiFi network that offers seamless WiFi as your devices are passed on from each access point seamlessly. This allows roaming around the house with ease without disconnecting and reconnecting to the WiFi constantly.

It comes with an anti-virus software, ensuring that your connection is safe and secure. You can also set up parental controls on the TP-Link mesh to keep the kids safe on the internet.

For a limited period, new and existing customers who subscribe or upgrade  to Globe At Home Plan 2499 or up may avail of the TP-Link Deco M5 WiFi Mesh system with two units for free. This promo is available until October 31, 2020 only. Additional mesh devices can also be purchased for a monthly fee of P150 per unit for 24 months.

A Nayon for Healing

Last October 2019, the Cabinet approved the development of the Nayong Pilipino Cultural Park and Creative Hub at the Entertainment City, New Seaside Road, in Parañaque, Metro Manila.

The site is the property of the Nayong Pilipino Foundation (NPF), one identified with high cultural, historical, heritage and eco-tourism values because of its proximity to the Las Piñas–Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA). The NPF Cultural Park and Creative Hub was intended not only as a place to learn about our natural and cultural heritage but also a venue for promoting sustainable tourism.

Under Presidential Decree No. 37, the NPF is mandated to promote, encourage, and initiate research and development projects and activities in social sciences and the humanities. NPF’s purpose, among others, is to establish parks and recreation centers for the promotion of sustainable tourism in the Philippines and generate opportunities for creating vibrant and empowered communities. Nayong Pilipino’s original mandate, through Presidential Decree No. 37, has always been the preservation of Filipino culture and heritage, yet it is little known that the mandate also includes implementing welfare programs for social improvement, upliftment, and amelioration.

We also recognize that many Filipinos have been looking forward to its inevitable resurgence because the Nayong Pilipino was home to countless memories with Filipino families, friends, and visitors in our country.

However, following the announcement of Republic Act 11469 Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, we must temporarily suspend the implementation of the project and direct all our efforts in averting the public health and economic crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

NPF’s land in Entertainment City, Paranaque, has been delegated as the site of one of many new quarantine facilities to be raised in the following months, and the largest in Metro Manila. It was only this January when we announced the vision for the Cultural Park and Creative Hub, which is to be the home to permanent and temporary exhibitions, performances, multimedia content and other activities that would highlight various facets of the country’s cultural heritage.

Parks and gardens have been considered as spaces of peace and healing, where we can be one with nature and its growth. In the midst of a metropolitan region, parks provide the benefits of nature to our physical, emotional, and mental health. The Nayong Pilipino Foundation Cultural Park and Creative Hub, while initially planned and designed for a different purpose, will therefore still remain true to its mandate by providing a place of healing for the people and the preservation of our heritage. A nation’s heritage includes its people.  As the world continues to battle this pandemic and transmission in the Philippines is still rising, our priority is to ensure the health of our citizens. We have to work together to make sure that everyone has access to testing and treatment, so that we can finally control the contagion that has ravaged our economy for months.

One day, the future NPF Cultural Park shall be a heritage space for the benefit of the public. We shall stroll along paths in our urban forest and pocket gardens, learn about Philippine flora, and watch children run free in open spaces. A library shall be built as a repository of knowledge products free and open to the public. We shall share meaningful conversations about our future museum with a permanent collection of ethnographic objects. The NPF Cultural Park shall also be a venue for training future cultural leaders. It shall be a place that enshrines inclusivity, creativity, collaboration, and innovation.

When this is all over, we can look forward to a Nayong Pilipino as we had envisioned it: a world-class tour ism hub and a platform for reimagining the nation. That reimagining begins here, as we become the nation that overcomes these great challenges through our uniquely Filipino spirit of Bayanihan.

Our Nayong Pilipino shall be a Nayon for all.

Thank you and Mabuhay!

ING celebrates 30th anniversary with cash gift for all customers

In celebration of its 30th anniversary in the country, ING Philippines announced a one-time cash gift for its customers this October.

All ING Save account holders will receive a one-time cash gift that is equivalent to 30% of their net interest earned in the month of October 2020. The Dutch-based financial institution said this is their way of celebrating their pearl anniversary and thanking customers for trusting ING Bank when it launched the first all-digital bank in the Philippines in 2018.

“Filipinos have a strong culture of gifting. Combining that with our 30-year presence in the Philippines, we believe that this cash gift is a simple but meaningful gesture from ING to thank all our clients and customers who have supported us through the years,” ING Philippines country manager Hans Sicat said.
