Pioneer Insurance’s #MoveOnLang Songwriting Competition wins two Anvil Awards

Pioneer Insurance together with Filipino Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (FILSCAP) and its communications / public relations agency ComCo Southeast Asia bagged two Anvil Awards at the recent 53rd Anvil Awards organized by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP).

Promoting resiliency and inspiring hope among the Filipino youth through arts and music, Pioneer’s #MoveOnLang Songwriting Competition won a Silver Anvil for External Consumers, Communities, Special Interest/Advocacy Groups category and another Silver Anvil under Youth/Children’s Welfare category.

Dubbed as the Oscars of Public Relations, the Anvil is the symbol of excellence in Public Relations. It is awarded to outstanding public relations programs and tools after careful screening by select PR professionals and judging by a distinguished multi-sectoral jury.

After organizing successful competitions in film-making and playwriting that generated inspiring stories of friendship and hope, Pioneer Insurance launched a songwriting competition in 2016 through the #MoveOnLang campaign, which encouraged the youth to draw inspiration from their own personal stories and taught them to translate these into original song compositions.

Together with FILSCAP and ComCo Southeast Asia, Pioneer Insurance’s #MoveOnLang Songwriting Competition was promoted through channels that resonated with Filipino youth: through influential OPM songwriters and artists; through campus tours and songwriting workshops; and on various digital platforms and media partners including ABS CBN’s One Music PH, for extensive mileage in spreading the advocacy.

Yosef Escoto from San Beda College Alabang emerged victorious as the Grand Winner and won a prize of PHP 100,000 for his original composition “Invincible.” The first runner-up, Benjamin Quijano (“Aking Mundo”) from University of the Philippines Los Baños, and the second runner-up, Kenneth Roquid (“Alive”) from University of the Philippines Diliman won PHP 50,000 and PHP 30,000 respectively.

To recognize the songwriting prowess of the remaining seven finalists, Pioneer awarded PHP 10,000 each to CK Sabillo (“Chronosphere”) from University of Santo Tomas; Julia Dichoso (“Hand In Hand”) from Sorsogon State College; Julien Cloma (“From Now On”) from STI College Novaliches; Luigi Balazo (“Make It Through”) from University of San Carlos; Marie Salvaleon (“Martsa Ni Marta”) from Southwestern University PHINMA; Marie Tayag (“The Biggest Leap”) from De La Salle University Manila; and Patricia Monsod (“Time”) from University of the Philippines Diliman. Julia Dichoso’s song “Hand In Hand” was crowned as Online Favorite, for which she was awarded PHP 10,000. In the 41st Annual Global End of Year Survey of Gallup International (http://www.gallup-international.com/surveys/happiness-hope-economic-optimism/), the Philippines ranked third among the happiest countries in the world. Celebrities, bloggers, and the entertainment press were all gushing over Regal Films, Inc.’s latest movie, So Connected, starring Janella Salvador and Jameson Blake.



The film, which is directed by the young and multi-awarded Jason Paul Laxamana, had its red-carpet premiere at SM Megamall, last Tuesday night, May 22.

The common observation that these celebrities and writers have noticed is the surprising but undeniable chemistry that Janella and Jameson have in this film, even if it is their first team-up.

Piolo Pascual’s son tweeted, “Napakagandang pelikula. Story, characters, cinematography, and socring were on point. 

“Chemistry was definitely present,” he said about Janella’s and Jameson’s first team up. 

On the other hand, Devon tweeted that she could not get over the fact that she enjoyed and felt kilig, even after she got out of the cinema. 

“Puro ako tawa at palakpak! It’s a very good movie,” Devon posted. 

“Ibang Janella makikita niyo, charisma ni Jameson, the story and the cinematography galling!” 

Jane congratulated her friend Janella for a quality project. 

Another factor that the people raved about the movie is that it isn’t just a romantic feel-good movie, but a story that is socially relevant with a moral lesson. 

It is perfect for millennials, who are exposed daily to modern technology, not fully realizing that it has its pros and cons, and could damage them if they don’t become very careful. 

Entertainment Editor Nestor Cuartero of The Manila Bulletin highlighted the timely message the film aims to impart to viewers.

“It tells us how to use social media properly,” he wrote. 

“It reminds us how we can avoid unfortunate incidents, such as public shaming or scandal.

“How? By being more judicious, less reckless, in what we post online.” 

Philippine Entertainment Portal writer Jimpy Anarcon stressed that the movie is beyond the kilig and the love story.

“You thought it’s just a simple love story of the modern day and age, but is also tackled events that are currently happening, especially in social media,” he posted. 

Veteran entertainment reporters and bloggers were one in saying that Janella and Jameson have a strong chemistry onscreen and gave justice to their respective roles. 

They cited the charm and how good-looking Jameson is onscreen. 

Entertainment blogger Chikkanesse posted, “Deserve ni Jameson ang leading man role and this movie will prove it. Kinikilig ako sa mga ngiti’t tingin niya.” 

Meanwhile Janella was commended for off-beat role that showcased her talent as an actress with depth. 

The Manila Feed posted about Janella, “She perfectly captured the essence of the character—her desperation, her longing to escape and her playful personality.” 

Unlike in her previous roles, Janella is deglamorized and takes on a more mature, challenging role in this movie.

She plays, Trisha, a waitress who purchased a smartphone, not knowing that the seller stole it and sold it to her. 

That phone belongs to Karter (Jameson), a video editor for a web channel. 

Through a mobile app that Karter installed on his phone, he gets a glimpse of Trisha's life in videos and photos uploaded in the online world and finds himself slowly falling for her and then resolves to find her. 

Will he be able to convince Trisha that they have a genuine connection and win her heart?

As part of the #AweSM weekend, there was a giant logo projection mapping show at SM Megamall’s facade along EDSA, and a relaunch of SM’s “We’ve Got It All Jingle”, sang by Ramonne Rodriquez of The Voice. SM Woman Divas, Frenchie Dy, Radha and Bituin Escalante and SM Little Stars Annatacia Penny and NU Pep Squad performed.

Customers can also indulge in fun summer eats and dining deals in SM malls across the country during the weekend and enjoy exciting promos that celebrates the number 60 – Pay only P60, Pay P60 less, or Pay only 60%!

The 60th year celebration is an exciting culmination of SM’s humble beginnings from its first shore store in Carriedo, Manila, opened by Henry Sy, Sr. in 1958. The party started with the #AweSM launch event early in the week that gathered SM’s partners, tenants, celebrities, and valued stakeholders who have been part of SM’s journey from a one-store operation to one of the Southeast Asia’s largest integrated property developers.

Microsoft Build 2018 - The Forces that will Shape the Future

Microsoft make big announcements on what's next in AI, cloud computing, and machine learning

Build is Microsoft’s big annual developer conference where they share their vision for technology and seek to empower everyone to be more productive. First held in 2011,Microsoft Build is an event aimed towards enabling software engineers and web developers using Windows, Windows Phone, Microsoft Azure, and other Microsoft technologies.

At Build 2018, Microsoft continues to pursue its mission to empower more people and organizations through the forces that will shape the future—particularly AI, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, and App Development.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, opened the conference with a view on opportunity and responsibility. 
“When we talk about limitless opportunity, it’s about truly figuring out how to empower more people and more organizations. We have a real responsibility as we think about the impact of technology…to ensure that technology is reaching everyone.”

Technology is weaved into every fabric of our modern lives while software is now also a major driver of economies. While personal computing continues to evolve, the cloud provides global infrastructure, scale and intelligence. Computing is everywhere and this is a huge opportunity for developers


AI for Accessibility

Microsoft continues to utilize technology to impact and improve the quality of human life. With AI, they are opening the door to a new wave of possibilities to break down barriers in communication and really impact the lives of people with disabilities.

At Build 2018, Satya Nadella announced the company’s new initiative: AI for Accessibility. It is a $25 million, five-year program to encourage the development of AI technology aimed towards helping the disabled community. The program will provide grants and support to research organizations, NGOs, and developers as they set out to empower and enable the more than 1B people with disabilities around the world.


Re-Inventing Meetings and Collaboration

The conference was a showcase of several technologies that greatly improved the quality of human life. This included AI-powered productivity solutions for the workplace.

Modern Meetings was Microsoft’s approach to the good old meeting. They showed developers how real-time AI services, Microsoft 365, and Cortana promote active collaboration in meetings. From real-time transcription to immediate data access in Power BI, integrated tools are bringing coworkers and content together in new ways.

The meeting room used hardware that features a 360-degree camera and microphone array that can detect anyone in a meeting room, greet them, and transcribe what they say in any language. It’s also capable of real-time translation.

It further uses AI to follow up on what meeting participants say in a meeting. So, if a participant says “I’ll call you tomorrow,” they’ll get a notification in Microsoft Teams. Modern Meetings promises to make meetings and conferences more manageable.

And speaking of Microsoft Teams, improved collaboration tools for the platform were also announced. Companies can now bring a line of business apps into a dedicated section of the Store just for their organization.

By bringing line of business apps to a hub of communication and collaboration, companies can reduce unnecessary friction that allows them to build upon the contributions of their colleagues.


Project Kinect for Azure


One of Microsoft’s major anouncements at Build 2018 was the move of Kinect to the cloud. Kinect may sound familiar for gamers as it was first used as a motion-and-voice control system for the Xbox 360 console.

“Kinect, when we first launched it in 2010, was a speech-first, gaze-first, vision-first device. It was used in gaming, and then, later on, it came to the PC, and it was used in many applications: medical, industrial, robotics, education... We’ve been inspired by what developers have done, and since Kinect, we’ve made a tremendous amount of progress when it comes to some of the foundational technologies in HoloLens. So we’re taking those advances and packaging them up as Project Kinect for Azure,” said Satya Nadella.

Project Kinect for Azure brings together important advances in AI-enabled edge devices with object sensing, skeletal tracking technology. And combined with a cloud platform, the possibilities are truly endless.
