A special treat for mom from Philips

Philips sends out Mother’s Day love with these gift ideas

Moms are probably the most hard-working, dedicated, and selfless people. You can be sure that your mom would always put you first above anything, and that she has your best interests at heart.

This Mother’s Day, return some of the love she has given you by planning a special day for her. Pamper her, give her the royal treatment, take her out and make her feel extra special with these Mother's Day gift ideas courtesy of Philips.

A healthier diet, with the Philips Avance Juicer

Help Mom stay fit and strong by providing her with a healthier way to prepare juices. She deserves nothing but fresh and pure fruit juices, made with a juicer that does not require pre-cutting or peeling, so she can get every bit of nutrient she needs.

The Avance Juicer features an extra large feeding tube and a powerful 800W motor, so you can put in whole fruits and vegetables — such as apples, pears and carrots — whole, without the need for pre-cutting. Easy to assemble, use and clean, the Avance Juicer produces 10% more juice compared to other juicers — just what mom needs to stay healthy.

A radiant glow, with the Philips ActiveCare Hair Dryer
Moms are always beautiful, inside and out. But there's no harm in making her bloom even more. Help her get a makeover right at home with the Philips ActiveCare Hair Dryer.

The ActiveCare Hair Dryer HP8260 lessens hair damage and overheating with an Even Heat Distribution technology. This allows the dryer to use an air outlet that ensures heat is always distributed very evenly — even at high temperatures — to prevent damaging hot spots. ThermoProtect temperature provides optimal drying temperature, while a volume diffuser enhances volume for bouncy hairstyles. Mom can also achieve shiny and frizz-free hair with ion conditioning, where charged negative ions eliminate static hair, condition the hair, and smooth down the hair cuticles.

The ActiveCare Hair Dryer will make mom look radiant when she steps out with you for dinner on Mother’s Day, and will keep her looking beautiful everyday even when she’s too busy to visit the salon.

A healthy smile, with the Philips FlexCare Plus

Actions speak louder than words. And nothing says it better than a flash of mom’s healthy pearly whites thanks to the Philips FlexCare Plus toothbrush.

Help mom achieve whiter teeth with the Philips FlexCare Plus equipped with its own patented sonic technology that helps improve gum health in just two weeks. It also provides superior cleaning action by gently and effectively reaching deep between teeth and along the gum line. If mom is new to the world of electronic toothbrushes, the Philips FlexCare Plus also includes an easy start program to help in acclimating mom to the Sonicare experience.

For all the sacrifices and unconditional love that your mom has been giving you all these years, she deserves nothing short of the best. Show her your appreciation and gratitude with these simple presents, and let her know that you love her too, no matter what.

Happy Mother's Day to all moms!

Callalily and 6cyclemind join forces to "Switch!" on June 7

Two of Philippine’s hottest bands Callalily and 6cyclemind join forces to bring you “SWITCH”, one of this year’s most anticipated events in the local music industry. This is their very first time, back-to-back major concert!

This SWITCH will be held on June 7, 2013 at the Music Museum. Audience should look forward to this special back-to-back concert as it will feature both bands’ hits and exciting surprises! Get to experience what “SWITCH” is all about!
During the mini TV press and bloggers conference last Tuesday, May 7, 2013 held at Sir Boy's Food Republic, Panay Quezon City,  Kean Cipriano and Tutti Caringal shared to us that the SWITCH idea started when Callalily and 6cyclemind were doing regular back-to-back shows in 70’s bistro. The response from fans were positive that they asked “Why not bring this to a bigger platform and make it a major concert?!”.

This will definitely be a great way to give back to their fans and treat them to an extraordinary show.

SWITCH will also showcase the brotherhood between the two bands. The Callalily boys comprised of Kean Cipriano, Aaron Ricafrente, Lemuel Belaro and Tatsi Jamnague consider the 6cyclemind boys (Tutti Caringal, Bobby Cañamo, Rye Sarmiento, Herbert Hernandez and Vic Aquino) as one of their mentors who introduced them in the local music industry when they were still starting out. Both bands have come a long way but it will be good to know that their relationship has strengthened throughout the years.

This is an important event not only for Callalily and 6cyclemind but also for the local music industry in general as it will show that fans are still supportive of local artists in spite of the influx of foreign acts and that there are more good things to look forward to in Filipino music.

Google’s resource page for Philippine elections gets hits from over 50 countries

For the Philippine elections 2013, the Google’s resource page gets hits from over 50 countries around the world. Since its launch on the first week of May, Google’s Philippine elections resource page (Google.com.ph/elections) has been getting hits from over 50 countries around over the world. As of this writing, the resource page has been visited by Internet users from as far as Uzbekistan, Rwanda, Finland, and the Netherlands.

The resource page is a collaboration between Google Philippines and broadcast networks ABS-CBN, GMA, PTV, and SOLARtv, and online news portals Rappler.com, PhilStar.com, Inquirer.net and Interaksyon.com. The site brings together election-related updates from Google Philippines’ partner media establishments in one platform.

The content-rich Elections Page contains stories culled from various local news sites. Users can search for election-related news information by political party or national issue. Broadcast coverage are also aggregated from participating networks’ YouTube channels into one tab. Election-related incidents are also plotted on a Google Maps map tile of the Philippines embedded in the site. This provides Internet users a visual idea of crisis and violence levels in areas of interest.

“We are proud to see that many Filipinos outside the Philippines are finding the site helpful. The millions of overseas Filipinos, including the 700,000 registered absentee voters abroad, are out of reach of the candidates’ traditional campaign propaganda. Through the site, we are able to make election-related information accessible to them, helping them make their decision come election day,” said Narciso Reyes, Google Philippines Country Manager.

Samsonite introduces Curv® Technology

Samsonite formally introduces Curv Technology last Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in the Firelite Collection launch held at the Manila Peninsula Hotel, Makati City.

Extra light and strong - Revolutionizing the ease in travel and transforming how a luggage is crafted Samsonite formally introduces Curv® Technology. Making travel easier is an ongoing mission at Samsonite and now they introduce this breakthrough as Curv® Technology allows a luggage to be made unbelievably light yet exceptionally strong as evidenced in their 3 Collections:
Cosmolite; Cubelite and the recently released Firelite.

The Curv® Brought to Life.

Curv® is a revolutionary concept in thermoplastic materials that bridges the gap between commodity plastics and traditional fibre-reinforced materials. Curv® is ‘self reinforced’ because it comprises high performance thermoplastic fibres in a matrix of exactly the same material. It is 100% polypropylene, but yields stiffness and strength values around 5 times those of others. In addition, Curv® has a high strain to failure which in combination with good tensile strength offers tremendously high impact resistance, even at temperatures as low as -189 degrees Celsius! These specific material characteristics, combined with its low density allow for very significant weight savings in final products.

"Curv® is nothing less than a revolution for our market", says Arno de Taeye, Vice President Customer Services Europe and Global Supply Hardside. "It is a magnificent new material for all those applications where impact resistance and lightweight play a key role." Another advantage of the material lies in its attractive optical appearance and the extensive design possibilities.''

The heart of the CURV® patented technology is called ‘selective melting’, where highly drawn fibers are submitted to carefully controlled temperature and pressure conditions so that a thin layer from the skin of each individual fiber is melted, then recrystallised to form a matrix. Most importantly, a very high proportion of the original fibre properties are maintained in the 100% polypropylene sheet, which shows stiffness and strength more commonly associated with traditional fibre-reinforced composites, but has the added benefit of exceptionally high resistance to impact (surprisingly maintained down to cryogenic temperatures).

The Strong & Light Cosmolite.

Winner of the Red Dot Design Award 'Best of the Best 2010’ and the Henry Van De Velde Label 2009, Cosmolite is the innovative result of what seems an impossible challenge –to make a stylish suitcase that combines Samsonite’s unrivalled strength and style with unbelievable lightness. Cosmolite is one of Samsonite’s first luggage collections to feature the exclusive and phenomenal Curv® technology Cosmolite’s specially moulded shell design, inspired by a seashell, is not only strikingly elegant but also acts as a protecting cocoon for a traveller’s treasured possessions. The inventive raised ridges ensure unparalleled strength and remove the need for a thicker and therefore heavier outer layer whilst minimizing the risk of scratches.

The Ultra-Sleek Cubelite.

Up to twice as light as other leading polycarbonate suitcases, Samsonite Black Label Cubelite pampers sophisticated travelers with extreme durability and supreme lightweight. It is thoughtfully crafted with a ‘palladium’ finish shell, exhibiting a gleam of sophistication which is the trademark of Samsonite Black Label. Its ridges design adds strength and minimizes surface contact, hence a low scratch sensitivity. With a highly organized packing system, the Samsonite Black Label Cubelite includes cross straps within the luggage cleverly securing all personal belongings, and a zipper lining made of lightweight Nylon. A separate pocket attached to the luggage interior also ensures swift access to personal accessories and other holiday essentials efficiently. For ultimate comfort and maneuverability, the double tube handle makes it seamless for busy globetrotters while its four wheel hub guarantees maximum stability and effortless rolling. It also proves to be an ultimate travel companion armed with its recessed integrated TSA combination lock and matching palladium zippers.

Pushing Travel Boundaries: Firelite

Coveted by active and vibrant travelers – whether they are discovering Antarctica or diving in the Red Sea –Firelite accompanies their active, fast-paced holidays, filled with adrenaline fuelled activities. The unique, striking design and innovative Curv® material enables a strong and even lighter suitcase; the cabin-size spinner 55 weighs less than a large bottle of water (1.9 kg) and the spinner 76 weighs just 2.9 kg, which helps to avoid excess baggage fees with room to pack that extra wetsuit. Inspired by extreme sports lifestyles, the Firelite shell is eye-catching, modern and effortlessly absorbs heavy shocks during travel. Convenient and comfortable integrated top and side handles blend seamlessly into the lines of the case and the water resistant PU coated zipper adds a sporty look. Silent lightweight wheels, for perfect smooth rolling, are activated with a retractable lightweight pull handle whilst a combination lock accepted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) allows for additional security when travelling. Meanwhile, a functional interior with colorful details, including a fully lined zipped divider pad in the top compartment with cross ribbons and a pocket on the bottom, provides organized and comfortable packing.

Samsonite, created in 1910 by entrepreneurial Colorado native Jesse Shwayder, is the world’s leading luggage brand. Inspiring travel world-wide, Samsonite helps global travellers to cover miles and create memories with revolutionary travel solutions. Preserving the brands longstanding history of breakthroughs in research and development, Samsonite has embedded its place at the forefront of the travel world with a number of industry firsts. One Life, Long Dream: 10 Filipino lads uplift communities through basketball

Ten Youth rise from 50 VisMin hopefuls as basketball legends culminate Alaxan FR National Galing Mo! Camp (L-R) 1st Row: L-R Ronnie Magsanoc, Benjie Paras, Alvin Patrimonio, Jerry Codinera, and Johnny Abarrientos 2nd Row: Top 10 Winners of Alaxan FR Galing Mo Natonal Camp! L-R John Ballentes, Tyke Bano, Gabriel Dagangon. Dan Audris Lagbas, Carl Soreno, MVP Rhys Jefferson Flores, Rhodelle Nagac, Miguel Plata, Michael Kent Salado,  Josuel Macarines

Hard work paid off for a group of young, aspiring cagers from the Visayas and Mindanao after making heads turn during the Alaxan FR Galing Mo Camp held at the Unilab gymnasium in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.

John Ballentes and Tyke Bano of Iloilo; Carl Soreno and Josuel Macarines of Dumaguete; Gabriel Dagangon and Miguel Plata of Davao; and Dan Audris Lagbas, Rhodelle Nagac, Michael Kent Salado, and Rhys Jefferson Flores (MVP) of Cagayan De Oro bested 40 other representatives in the three-day basketball camp through their dazzling display of heart and athleticism.

The young cagers were each awarded a P100,000 infrastructure project for their respective barangays, on top of a P20,000 cash incentive. Their stellar performance got the nod of the camp directors, led by no less than basketball legends Alvin Patrimonio, Jerry Codiñera, Benjie Paras, Jojo Lastimosa, Johnny Abarrientos, and Ronnie Magsanoc.

This is really a tradition of hard work and dedication. Last year, the same basketball legends inaugurated the Courts of Inspiration, which are volunteer-built basketball courts made by the local volunteers from the partner villages in Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Tacloban, and Cebu for the Visayas, and Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Butuan, Davao, and Saranggani for Mindanao. Their aim was to inspire communities to achieve greatness through hard work, after building a basketball court entirely on their own. The legends themselves even left handprints on special concrete markers within the structure, reminding people of what hard work and dedication can bring to a community that works together for a noble cause.

The same hoop icons returned to the partner communities early this year to continue the advocacy—not to build more sports venues, but to see how hard the youth have worked to improve their basketball skills on the Courts of Inspiration. After conducting basketball clinics, the legends handpicked the best players, who then flew to Manila to represent their communities in the national leg of the Alaxan FR Galing Mo Camp.

The aim, this time, was to reward those who trained hard in the Courts of Inspiration to perfect their basketball skills.

Rhys Jefferson Flores of Cagayan de Oro was named as the Most Valuable Player
After winning the tight competition, the winners are now set to return the favor to the communities that hand-built their hometown basketball courts.

“My friends and I plan to help promote the game of basketball further by improving the basketball courts back in our province,” said MVP Rhys Jefferson Flores, who bared his plan to add roofing and proper lighting to existing playing venues.

“What I learned from this experience is something that I will remember from this day forward: always give your 100% not just to improve your character but, more importantly, to help others make their lives better.”

Philips launches LED Promise campaign “The Promise of a Greener World”

Philips guarantees consumers that its LED lighting products offer long lasting and consistent brightness, savings on energy and cost, and guaranteed safety. Partnership with photography club ties Philips efforts in sustainability with environmental awareness.

I enjoyed the wonderful world of Philips. Last Saturday, May 4, 2013, Philips Lighting Philippines kicked off its LED campaign  at the SM Mall of Asia.

Entitled “The Promise of a Greener World”, the campaign emphasized how using LED lighting solutions can help reduce the Philippines’ carbon footprint, and avert the drastic effects of global warming.
The event was hosted by popular TV host Suzi Entrata-Abrera, featured Philips’ latest range of LED lighting products, together with its newest Brand Ambassador, popular TV personality and triathlete Kim Atienza.

Philips Country Manager and General Manager for Lighting Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno said that  Philips LED lighting solutions are not only energy-efficient but also provide a superior quality of light. With this campaign, we hope to share with consumers the facts about LED lighting solutions and encourage them to make the simple switch to sustainable lighting solutions that is environmentally-friendly.”

“Philips Lighting is a strong advocate in environmental sustainability with our commitment to green manufacturing and solutions. That is why we decided to work with Kuya Kim to help spread the sustainability message as he is a strong advocate to make the planet a better place for current and future generations,” he added.

Philips also had an environment-themed photo exhibit run concurrently with its LED product launch, which featured the images captured by the finalists of an online contest that Philips conducted in partnership with the Young Photographers Club (YOPHO).

“Our group is honored to have been chosen by Philips as a partner for this noble initiative. We hope that we were able to underscore the importance of preserving the environment through our photos, and encourage everyone to do their share in conserving our resources,” stated YOPHO president Daniel Formoso.

The World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF Philippines) also supported Philips in its LED campaign. “For three years, Philips has been supporting Earth Hour and our various energy efficiency initiatives. This new LED campaign helps Pinoys go beyond the hour to save the planet, one LED bulb at a time,” said Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan, WWF Philippines Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Recognized as a world leader in lighting, Philips strives to educate consumers on the ideal characteristics they should look for in good quality LED lighting products.

“Aside from making consumers aware of the many benefits they can get from using LED lighting solutions, we want them to understand that they need to choose good quality LED lighting products to maximize the product’s potential,” said Tetteroo-Bueno.

Philips listed down three key items that good LED lighting products must possess:
- long lasting and consistent brightness
- savings on energy and cost
- guaranteed safety
In addition, Philips LED lighting solutions are at mainstream prices, to help make the shift from traditional bulbs to LED lights much easier.

Philips will be holding LED fairs in key malls across the Philippines, in order to bring the importance and benefits of using LED lighting solutions closer to consumers.

Warner Music Philippines release debut album of ZENDEE titled “I BELIEVE”

Warner Music Philippines proudly releases the debut album of ZENDEE titled “I BELIEVE.” I attended the launching of Zendee's CD album with the media held at Chef & Brewer Cafe and Restaurant, Ortigas Center last April 30, 2013.

Zendee Rose Japitana Tenerefe, became known as “Random Girl,” “Mystery Karaoke Girl,” “Viral Diva,” and “Supermarket Superstar,” was captured on videowhen she was practicing session in SM Megamall, singing Jennifer Holliday’s “And I Am Telling You” by a passerby (Yuan Juan or youngjay0918), who happened to be a video blogger. The video, posted on July 28 on YouTube with the title “Random Girl,” quickly went viral, garnering over 2 million hits, 14,063 likes and more than 5,000 comments.

Beforehand, Zendee got her first big break when she was brought to Manila to participate in the ABS-CBN talent show X-Factor Philippines, which began on June 23, 2012. Unfortunately, she did not make it past boot camp tryouts; her friend, KZ Tandingan, went on to win. The intrepid Zendee elected to stay in Manila to try out for other singing competitions, including Pinoy Dream Academy Season 3 and Pilipinas Got Talent Season 4, both by ABS-CBN. Again, she didn’t make the final cut.

This astounding video brought her to the attention of Warner Music Philippines, which offered her a recording contract on their 1st visit to their makeshift home in the Fire Station. Zendee also caught the interest of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she was regarded as “the next big thing.” The Ellen camp contacted her in August, and together with Warner Music, flew her to Los Angeles for taping.

Her debut on the international stage, a performance of “And I Am Telling You” on Ellen, aired on Oct. 26, 2012. During the show, DeGeneres gave Zendee an iPad 3 made to look like a miniature portable videoke machine, “filled with all the songs” that the singer loved.

Currently recording with Warner Music Philippines, Zendee keeps herself busy with frequent guestings on Party Pilipinas, Manny Many Prizes, to name a few. She will perform as the special guest artist of Jason Mraz on his concert on May 14 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Her album ‘I believe’ is out now and is available at major record bars and on iTunes.

The nine-track album features six original compositions and three cover songs. The complete titles, composers, theme and concept of the songs are as follows:

“ Runaway ” is an upbeat, getting over / moving on love song with a current/new sound written by US-based songwriters and world-class composers Andrew Fromm, Matt Bronleewe, Jordan Pruitt, & Tyler Hayes.

“ The Ones You Love ” - a love song about heartache and “ Completely ” - a ‘couples song’ were both written by Diane Eve Warren. Dianne is a US-based songwriter highly regarded worldwide as a hit maker with hundreds of hit songs under her belt.

“ I Believe ” - an inspirational love song with only the piano and vocals and “ If You Want ” - the only love song in the album that has only a ukulele and vocals as accompaniment. This was written by Lamberto Reyes Jr. who also composed songs for other Warner Music artists.

“ Go The Distance ”

DOH, MSD, Medical Societies Come Together to Prevent Cervical Cancer

Implement free nationwide screening for the month of May

The Department of Health (DOH), global pharmaceutical company MSD and medical societies hope to go full circle for this year’s Cervical Cancer Awareness Month in May, and strike directly at the source of cervical cancer—the human papillomavirus or HPV.

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in both men and women which causes cervical cancer. According to the World Health Organization, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer afflicting women worldwide with about 500,000 new cases and 250,000 deaths each year. In the Philippines, an estimated 12 Filipino women die due to cervical cancer each day.

For these reasons, the DOH and MSD, along with medical societies Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS), Society of Gynecologic Oncologists of the Philippines (SGOP) and Philippine Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (PSCPC), continue with their partnership, dubbed as Babae, MahalagaKa!, for the 6th year of the Cervical Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM) celebration.

Free cervical cancer screening will be offered to women aged 30-49 years old in 58 DOH-retained hospitals nationwide for the whole month of May. “Screening, either through Pap smear or visual inspection using acetic acid (VIA), should be done on women who are sexually active or had history of sexual contact. This service is being offered for free every May in government hospitals, to help detect cervical cancer in its early stage, while it is still treatable and curable,” said Dr. Rey Delos Reyes, past President of POGS and SGOP, consultant of Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

“The good news is that early this year, PhilHealth included the treatment for cervical cancer in the Z Benefit Package program. The benefit package includes cervical cancer chemoradiation with cobalt or primary surgery worth Php120,000 or cervical cancer chemoradiation with linear accelerator for Php175,000 depending on what is needed by the patient,” imparts DOH Secretary Enrique Ona.

Apart from free screenings nationwide, MSD in partnership with DOH will be providing free quadrivalent HPV vaccinations to 9,000 girls aged 13 years old this coming school year. “Our mission is not only to discover and develop medicines and vaccines for unmet medical needs but we would also like to make these accessible to people who can benefit from them. This initiative would help demonstrate how to implement a school-based vaccination program which can serve as a model for a national program,” shares Sanjiv Navangul, President and Managing Director of MSD in the Philippines.

Aside from cervical cancer, the quadrivalent HPV vaccine can also prevent vulvar and vaginal cancer, as well as genital warts. It is important to note that HPV is implicated in various diseases aside from cervical cancer such as cancers of the vulva, vagina, anus, penis, head and neck, and genital warts. It is themost common sexually transmitted infection in both men and women. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have stated that HPV is so common that nearly all sexually-active men and women get it at some point in their lives.

“Due to the many risks that HPV poses and the many lives claimed by cervical cancer, the DOH hopes that through the yearly celebration of CCAM, more and more women will be educated and encouraged to undergo screening and vaccination, “says Secretary Ona.

PAMORA FARM, The Home of Free-range Chicken!

Pamora Farm, Inc. is a Filipino-European joint venture that operates a free-range chicken farm in Barangay Garreta, Pidigan, Abra.

Free-range farming is a method of raising animals where they are left to roam freely in an allocated area with minimum required space. Free-range chickens are raised for a longer period than commercial chickens. They are allowed to develop natural habits and grow the way a normal chicken should -- scratching the ground and roaming the barnyard. They are grown for their flavorful taste.

Free-range chickens are grown naturally. Free-range chickens have low fat content, only 8-10% compared to regular commercial chicken that has 19-29% fat content.

Last April 27, 2013, we had a lunch meeting with the friendly owners of Pamora farm Mr. Gerard Papillon and Tina Morados, in Brasserie Cicou Restaurant at Greenhills. The sumptuous menu prepared by Chef Cyrille Soenen and Chef Summer,  while Gerald and Tina talks and presented to us through with every meal we had.

First we had Green Salad, Pickles and Mustard, Baggette and assorted Pamora Pates. There are six (6) varieties of Pamora pâtĂ©s. These Home-made PâtĂ©s are good for appetizers.

The Roasted Coquelet with Rosemary and Garlic served with Mashed Potato is really flavorful. I tasted it, different chicken roasted from other restaurant, but seasoned simply and roasted to perfection.

For the dessert, we were served with Trio of Crème Brulee (Vanilla, Chocolate and Green Tea). As the delicious mouth-watering Trio of Crème Brulee main ingredient is the Pamora egg which came from the Pamora free-range chicken.

As shared by Tina, Free-range chickens are grown longer, thus the meat is firmer, cooking time takes longer for free-range chickens, although you will not need any flavoring additives like broth cubes or chicken stocks. Salt and pepper will be enough, and sometimes even those are not needed.

"You can cook it in any way as you would your regular chicken. But with deep-frying all the natural flavors and health benefits will be lost. Cooking time is always longer than regular commercial chicken."

Gerard and Tina Morados Papillon's hardwork and enduring partnership led them to be awarded by the French Ambassador with the “Order of Merit for Agriculture, Grade of Knight” for promoting the natural and humane way of raising and manufacturing chicken byproducts.

We enjoyed having this sumptous lunch and great conversation with passionate advocate people who gave us combination of French and Filipino hospitality and their combined stories of Pamora Farm. Thanks to Ms. Nana Nadal inviting us to know more about free-range chicken by the Pamora farm brand. I hope to experience Pamora farm at Barangay Garreta, Pidigan, Abra sometime.

Read this for more  information, and enjoy this wonderful world of Pamora Farm.

THE FREE-RANGE METHOD

Free-range is a method of farming husbandry where the animals, like the chickens, are permitted to roam freely. The principle of free-range method is to allow the animals to live at their instinctual behaviour in a reasonably natural way instead of being contained in a cage like commercial broiler production where the chickens are forced to grow abnormally fast in just about 4 to 5 weeks (28-35 days).

Free-range chickens roam in a barnyard or field (range) to forage with a minimum of eight (8) hours daylight. Aside from the daily intake of milled yellow corn, they eat whatever organic food they could find on the ground like grass, insects, and the like.

Pamora free-range chickens come from a coloured breed from France. This breed is a slow growing type of broiler. Quality F1’s or first generation offspring are being raised in Pamora Farm.
Two weeks before the scheduled arrival of a new batch of day-old chicks, housing are being prepared for brooding (heating) purposes. Cleaning, disinfection, repairs, and equipment/materials check-up are requisite routine to ensure the bio-security of the flock and of the farm.

Chicks are kept for the first 21 days inside the housing with brooding facilities. This helps them gain strength and get ready for outside life, free-range. The farm grows different trees, grass, and herbal plants for shade and natural feeds for the chickens.
There are several ranging areas operating in the farm. Each range has between 500 to 2,000 chickens. Depending on the topography, each range occupies some 1,000 to 3,000 square meters, which provides approximately 1 to 2 square meters ranging area per bird to freely graze and find organic food available on the ground.

The use of herbal medicines, like oregano, chilli, garlic, ginger, kakawate leaves, caimito leaves, ipil-ipil leaves, guava leaves and many more, is also practiced and given at proper and appropriate times. Veterinary and technical consultants who are experts in free-range poultry practice regularly visit and assist in the farming methods, which applies and implements both local and French technologies.

Pamora Free-range chickens are grown at a minimum of 70 days. Having the chickens ranging for longer period gives the optimum natural chicken taste, firmer meat quality, and much healthier poultry meat with less fat content.

THE FARM
Pamora Farm started raising free-range chicken in March 2000 as a small-scale farm undertaking by the Papillon (Gerard) and Morados (Tina) family, their last names forming the brand, PAMORA.

Pamora Farm is also promoting their farming method the among people of Abra, providing livelihood opportunities for the community.

Aside from the free-range chicken farming for meat and eggs production, the farm also grows organic fruits and vegetables for own consumption and for visitors/guests’ staying in the farm. Using natural fertilizer from earthworm dung (vermin-culture) and composts from degradable farm wastes such as chicken manure, Pamora Farm produces fruitful and high quality crops.

Within the farm premises, reforestation projects, and planting of high quality wood trees like Narra and Mahogany.

THE PRODUCTS

Pamora Farm products are all inspected, passed, registered and certified by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) and Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD).

All dressed chicken and chicken meat by-products are processed in the Poultry Dressing Plant owned and operated solely by Pamora Farm, Inc. Accredited by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) and certified Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Pamora Farm also manufactures traditional French “home-made” pâtĂ©s from the free-range chicken. PâtĂ© is a mixture of various parts of the chicken (liver, gizzard, meat) blended (with herbs, black pepper and sea salt) into a paste and sterilized in glass jars. PâtĂ© is a traditional practice in France of preserving meat of any kind.

The following six (6) varieties of Pamora pâtés are creations of Mr. Gérard Papillon using old-fashioned recipes from his grandmother.

·      Chicken Liver PâtĂ©
·      Chicken Breast & Liver PâtĂ©
·      Chicken Gizzard PâtĂ©
·      Chicken Liver & Gizzard PâtĂ©
·      Chicken Breast PâtĂ©
