The Mind Museum Keeps the Wonderment of Science in Summer

The Mind Museum known as the Philippines’ first world-class science museum, may be known for having galleries with interactive science exhibits, but not many know that it is also a place that offers unique and fun summer learning activities that tickle the scientist in each child.

CSI 101 shoe impressions as evidence
From simulated crime solving activities, to a behind-the-scenes look on being the museum’s ‘Mind Movers’, to learning about the science behind soccer, The Mind Museum can keep your eyes and minds widening in wonder.

The Mind Museum’s Summer Programs

The Mind Museum continues to provide extraordinary learning and exploration to kids and kids-at-heart.

This summer, The Mind Museum, with the help of JPMorgan Chase & Co., brought an array of activities that will make you appreciate and love learning even more:

Jr MindMover experiments
In the Crime Scene Investigation 101 (CSI 101) program, young inquisitive minds were tasked by the museum’s Mind Movers to examine a crime scene and figure out what could have possibly happened by doing evidence gathering, fingerprinting, odontology and blood splatter analysis.

Kids even presented their cases to a panel of investigators, and winning participants were given badges as their award. It was truly an exciting experience for them to try their hands at solving cases and on being crime scene investigators.

The Mind Museum also partnered with the scientists of the California Academy of Sciences and offered a Marine Science Camp to young wonderers. Held in Aiyanar Beach and Dive Resort, Anilao Batangas, adventurers gained a deeper appreciation for marine biodiversity through interactive activities including a “wet” show & tell of critters & corals, outdoor survival training with tents, sleeping bags and coolers facilitated by Coleman, and stargazing at night with the museum’s resident astronomer. Highlight was the snorkeling activity in the resort’s well-preserved house reef, and identifying the different forms of marine life that they learned about from the scientists of the Academy.
Soccer Science drills
Meanwhile, other budding science prodigies were given the chance to be like the museum’s resident scientists or ‘Mind Movers’. Through the Junior Mind Mover (JMM) program, participants learned about the story of the museum and its galleries, and even performed experiments in front of museum guests. Through the program, they got to explore different fields of sciences in interactive and creative ways.

For kids who both love sports and science, the Soccer Science Program was the perfect activity to enjoy. Held at The Mind Museum and BGC Turf, participants learned the physics behind this sport including the science of curve balls, soccer statistics and soccer anatomy to prevent injuries.

Marine Camp outdoor survival challenge by Coleman
This program, made possible with the help of the Fort Bonifacio Development Foundation, Uratex and Mitre, had participants from a select group of sponsored Taguig public school kids, and soccer enthusiasts from all over Metro Manila.

Unending Wonderment from The Mind Museum

Even if summer is over, they can still expect a lot more mind-blowing educational programs. Watch out for exciting science parties or ‘MindBurst’ events such as the Experiment Circus - travel into the past towards the future of Physics; or take part in the Halloween Special: Myth-busting and Ghost-busting and discover what is this spookiness behind “ghost-busting” activities.

DepEd implements busing system in Valenzuela

The Department of Education (DepEd) Valenzuela City Division has developed a scheme that might prove to be an effective solution to overcrowding in public schools. With the help of the city’s Local School Board, grade 5 students from Malinta Elementary School – Pinalagad Annex are being bused to Karuhatan West Elementary School.

“Pinalagad Annex was established in 2003 and was originally intended as a primary (grade 1 -4) school,” Schools Division Superintendent Wilfredo Cabral said, adding that busing is an “adaptive” strategy while DepEd and the city government are working out a relocation site.

He added, “We make sure that all students who register in our schools will be accommodated.” He emphasized that DepEd will continue to find ways to deliver what the Filipino learners deserve.

Around 140 students are picked up at 11:30 am at the Pinalagad Annex covered court by six vans and brought back after their 12:00 – 6:00pm shift. The vans are service vehicles of the various schools and the DepEd Division Office, fuel will be charged to the city’s Special Education Fund (SEF).

The students are officially enrolled in Karuhatan West and are accompanied by three teachers from Pinalagad. To ensure the safety of the students, the drivers are also accompanied by staff of the division office to assist in manning students to and from Karuhatan West ES.

Active participation in education

DepEd-Valenzuela consulted with the parents’ association before the implementation of the busing system. The local government unit also collaborated with the division office to ensure proper and safe implementation of the said strategy.

DepEd Undersecretary for Regional Operations Rizalino Rivera, “Ang edukasyon ng mga mag-aaral ay hindi lamang responsibilidad ng mga guro at magulang. Ito ay responsibilidad ng buong komunidad.” He added that DepEd stays committed in addressing the growing needs of the Filipino learners and continues to urge the active participation of public and private sector in delivering the service to the students.

New Promenade Cinemas offer art, comfort, luxury and Dolby Atmos, the latest in movie sound technology

Revolutionary sound technology - Dolby Atmos. It’s the new world of sound that let’s you “hear the whole picture”.
Dolby Atmos is the revolutionary sound technology that is the current world class standard of sound technology. It debuted in the Philippines at the Greenhills Cinemas 6, 7 and 8 at the new Promenade, Greenhills Shopping Center on July 11, 2013.

What makes Dolby Atmos so special? It is state of the art sound technology that brings the movie’s sound come to life, making you feel as if you are part of the picture, in the middle of the action, hearing the sounds from where they are actually coming from.

Technically, Atmos is a positional sound system, with many more channels of audio than a typical surround sound system. It enables the aural tracking of objects in a 3D space, to create a more lifelike sound. Instead of thinking of sound in terms of channels, the technology allows sound editors to work with object-oriented sound instead. Using a computer algorithm, Atmos can drive audio across the hall, splitting it across multiple speakers to accomplish a positional effect.

Traditional sound technology has the sounds coming from in front of or behind the audience, from either side, or from above. With Atmos, the sound comes from anywhere and everywhere. The technology uses a computerised algorithm to tweak the sound output based on the number of installed speakers, so sound editors can designate where in the cinema space each sound should be coming from, instead of having to consider speaker numbers and placement.

In short, Dolby Atmos delivers a powerful and dramatic new cinema sound listening experience. It allows sound to move around the theater to create dynamic effects. It reproduces a natural and lifelike audio experience that perfectly matches the story. Its overhead speakers create the most realistic effects you’ve ever heard. And up to 64 speakers total placed all around the theater heighten the realism and impact of every scene.

Major movies such as Brave, The Life of Pi, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Pacific Rim, Gravity, Thor : The Dark World, Elysium, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, 300: Rise of An Empire, Captain America : The Winter Soldier, Transcendence, The Amazing Spiderman 2, Godzilla, Meleficent, and now, Edge of Tomorrow were made in Dolby Atmos.

How To Train Your Dragon 2, Transformers : Age of Extinction, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Expendables 3 and The Avengers : Age of Ultron are the upcoming movies in Dolby Atmos. And Greenhills Cinemas 6, 7 and 8 – all equipped with Dolby Atmos and fitted with wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling screens -- enhance the viewing experience of these blockbuster movies best.

Greenhills Cinema general manager Paolo Mendoza says putting up one Dolby Atmos theater is like putting up three regular theaters in terms of cost and equipment. “You need to invest in a CP850, which is the latest processor used by Dolby as well as special Perlux screens. The new Promenade screens are also bigger -- floor to ceiling in heght and spread side to side – in essence, a mini Imax,” he explained.

To date, there are 150 countries that enjoy the revolutionary Dolby Atmos technology all over the world and Greenhills Cinema is the first in the Philippines to offer it in Promenade Cinema 6, 7 and 8 -- the most number of Dolby Atmos theaters in one structure in the whole of Asia.

Besides the Dolby Atmos technology that has revolutionized the movie viewing experience, the new Greenhills Cinemas at the Promenade are made special by luxurious appointments. A large-sized mural fashioned from metal by National Artist for the Visual Arts Benedicto Cabrera (Bencab) entitled 8 Movements greets moviegoers as they get off from the escalator, giving one a sense of the grandeur of well-appointed cinema houses of the 50s and 60s. Towering palm trees, mood lighting, and wrap-around giant posters of Oscar Best Pictures adorn the lobby. Even the rest rooms are hotel-like in their luxury.

“We wanted to bring back some of the elegance of movie theaters during the grand old days of cinema when movie houses were stand-alone and had murals and art pieces for décor. Moviegoers then surely had a grand feeling when going to the movies. This is the reason why we brought the finest art into the new thdeaters at the Promenade and why the three new cinemas are fitted with state of the art Dolby Atmos technology. We hope in the near future more cinemas will follow suit to give movie goers the wonderful experience of watching movies in the best way they can,” said Precy Florentino, president of the Music Museum Group, Inc.which runs Greenhills Cinemas.

Present-day moviegoers never had it this good.

German company develops technology to address job mismatch

http://instagram.com/p/o2XzMosJfA/

JobMatch.pro, the latest innovation from the German IT provider- ISI Teletrade, was introduced during the press briefing held at the Dohle Haus, Makati City, June 5, 2014.

A new job search engine site created by German and Filipino web developers is offering a cool way to help you land in a job that suits your skills and at the same time, relieves employers from the stress of hunting for the right talents.

JobMatch.pro is launched simultaneously here in Manila and in Germany to address the lingering problems of job mismatch. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) pegged underemployment or those still looking for another job at 7-million while unemployment is at 2.96 million.

JobMatch.pro is the latest innovation from the German IT provider- ISI Teletrade which uses an intelligent software that recognizes suitable talents while blocking those unmatched applications.

ISI Teletrade, a member of the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) has 35 years of experience in marketing and 'sales psychology' and founded in Bochum, Germany. It has 150 competent staff in three offices in the Netherlands, Curacao in the Venezuelan coast and now the Philippines.

Mr. Peter Steinbach, the brains behind JobMatch.pro. His company is one of the first few members of the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. GPCCI has been encouraging German SMEs to invest in the Philippines and ISI Teletrade, the mother company of JobMatch.pro, is among those who responded.

In a press briefing Thursday morning, ISI Teletrade founder and JobMatch.pro creator Peter Steinbach said the program will practically reduce by 90 per cent the effort and time of both employers looking for the right talents and applicants looking for the right jobs to match their skills.

How it works

First, employers post a job opening advertisement with content-related categories on the skills requirements.

Applicants will only need to click on keywords to fit their skills qualifications with the requirements of the job opening.

The JobMatch.pro software program sends 'bidder flags' or the pink colored star to the employers to indicate that there are qualified applicants who have expressed interest.

The bidder flags will remain invisible to the applicants until the employers decide to contact them for additional documents such as Resume' and other requirements.

Job hunters on the other hand, can create profiles where they can indicate their skills and the job they are looking for. The program can detect if there are job openings that match the job hunter’s skills and the would-be employee will then be flagged about the match.

The JobMatch.pro program is an innovation from the out-dated job search engines where an individualized application letter is sent along with resume, certificates and documents that mostly contain errors from typos, wrong address and incomplete information.

PH as perfect market

The Philippines is a perfect market for JobMatch.pro owing to the hundreds of thousands of job openings by foreign and local investors now taking advantage of the country's emerging economy.

The latest job search innovation by JobMatch.pro also addresses the difficulty of new graduates and those who are still looking for jobs that suit their skills to find the right employment. Getting hired in a profession that suits ones skills allows both employee and the company to grow simultaneously.

Figures from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) show that there are 700,000 new college graduates every year but only 20 per cent of them actually get jobs. The rest remain unemployed or seek jobs abroad.

Jane Oineza

School time doesn’t have to be dull and dreary so when it’s time to meet up with school friends, gear up by wearing items from the BUM Univarsitee collection.

Diego Loyzaga
The BUM Univarsitee collection takes inspiration from the concept of school chic fashion—a style influence that is preppy with a twist. It’s all about being school-compliant without alienating one’s individuality—a delectable combination of grunge, rebel chic, and punk. BUM incorporates the fashion trend it’s known for—color in a garment.

Ella Cruz
The campaign is about being comfortable in school, and even after-school, wearing what you like and being non-conformist in a surrounding that somehow encourages uniformity.

Nash Aguas

Maleficent has shot to top of the World Box Office & took $70 Million in the US, making it Jolie's biggest opening

“Maleficent,” Walt Disney’s special-effects laden take on “Sleeping Beauty’s” wicked fairy mother, captivated moviegoers, collecting $70 million in ticket sales to win the North American weekend box office stakes.

The movie starring Angelina Jolie as the black-robed villain finished far ahead of last week’s winner, “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which took $32.6 million at US and Canadian theaters.

Seth MacFarlane’s western comedy “A Million Ways to Die in the West” was third with $17.1 million for the three days from Friday to Sunday, according to box office tracking firm Rentrak.

Produced for $180 million, “Maleficent” received mixed reviews but opened strongly with $4.2 million on Thursday night and conjured up more than 80 percent of advance ticket sales for the weekend, according to movie ticketing site Fandango.

"Maleficent," Walt Disney's special-effects laden take on "Sleeping Beauty's" wicked fairy mother, captivated moviegoers, collecting $70 million in ticket sales to win the North American weekend box office stakes. The film is the latest in a line of reimagined classics, following "Alice in Wonderland" in 2010 and "Oz the Great and Powerful" in 2013.

Dave Hollis, head of distribution for Walt Disney Studios, noting it hoped for an opening of around $60 million. “Maleficent” took in another $100 at overseas box offices.

“We’re very excited with this start.” Hollis also said momentum built through weekend on positive word of mouth. With schools beginning to let out and a “general absence of family product in this marketplace,” Disney was optimistic for the film continuing its strong performance.
