The UNTV Cup Season 2

The UNTV Cup Season 2 will officially commence on February 11, 2014 at Smart Araneta.

Here's UNTV's advocacy that was able to unite different government agencies and local celebrities to play the game of basketball to support a cause.
On this season’s league, the teams were given the privilege to get a maximum of two professional basketball (PBA) players for reinforcement, subject to certain qualifications.  For the second season, ten (10) teams are set to take part in this charity ball game. They are the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP Cavaliers), Congress (Congress Legislators), Department of Justice (DOJ Hunters), Local Government Unit (LGU), Malacañang Palace, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA Equalizers), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth Advocates), Philippine Judiciary, Philippine National Police (PNP Responders) and Senate. In addition to the participating teams of last season, the success of the advocacy inspired both Malacañan and Senate to join this upcoming season.
“UNTV Cup is one of the projects we came up with since we know a lot of people in the government agencies as well as celebrities who are fond of playing basketball. But this time, they’ll be playing for a better cause,” the veteran broadcaster UNTV Cup’s progenitor Kuya Daniel Razon said.
To further enhance the public service aspect of the league, each game day every Sunday will also be a public service” day for the participating agencies.

Prior to the game, each agency will be given a booth at the game venue, where our game audience may seek for the services of each organization.

During the first season, seven teams played to win the top prize of P1-million for their chosen charity.

Players included high-ranking officials from the Supreme Court (Team Judiciary), Armed Forces of the Philippines (Team AFP), Philippine National Police (Team PNP) and Philhealth. Officials from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Congress and some local government units (Congress-LGU), also took part in Season 1 of UNTV Cup.

UNTV CUP Season 1 Champion Team Judiciary selected the Bohol earthquake and Mindanao war victims to receive their million-peso cash prize. Team PNP, meanwhile, donated its second-place cash prize of P500,000 to the Masonic Charities for Crippled Children.

All games will be held every Sunday at Ynares Sports Arena, and broadcasted live 2:30pm at UNTV.

UNTV's vision is be a prime catalyst of a public service advocacy that will inspire and encourage public servants to join hands in helping the underprivileged members of our society through sports.

The UNTV Cup will provide an opportunity for public servants to play an active part for a good cause that will help the underprivileged of the society while promoting unity, camaraderie, and physical fitness among public servants.

UNTV Cup is a basketball competition among various branches of the government culminating in a final game to determine the champion. This will not only promote camaraderie, sportsmanship and healthy competition among the various branches of the government but will also be able to bring to their attention the plight of the underprivileged.

Each team will submit their chosen charitable institution as their beneficiary for this basketball tournament. The champion will be given the privilege to have a One Million Peso (Php1,000,000) grant to their beneficiary. Jardine Distribution, Inc. distributes tents to schoolchildren affected by Yolanda in Northern Cebu

Jardine Distribution Inc. turned its efforts to help schoolchildren affected by Typhoon Yolanda in Northern Cebu. In cooperation with the Department of Education, JDI distributed 15 tents in Northern Cebu to be used as makeshift classrooms.

Edwin Hernandez, President and General Manager of Jardine Distribution, Inc., explained that the company chose to focus on helping the children in Yolanda-affected areas after talks with the DepEd through Undersecretary Mario Derequito.

“Resuming the school activities of kids is really an important part of helping families and communities recover from the effects of the typhoon. By contributing in this way to the rehabilitation efforts, we are empowering communities to return to their normal way of life,” said Hernandez, adding that education is always a priority in the company’s CSR projects.

Previously, JDI also helped schoolchildren affected by Yolanda in Leyte. The company distributed a thousand learner kits to schoolchildren in Yolanda-hit areas. “Yolanda destroyed schools and swept away learning materials. The typhoon took away a vital part of the lives of so many children. We believe that by helping them resume their education, they will feel that there is hope, and they can move on to fulfill their dreams,” said JDI Marketing Manager Peachy Tiu.

Jardine Distribution, Inc. represents a number of local and global companies that provide world-class crop protection and construction chemical products. They are focused on the safe use of these products, providing technical support, and with due consideration of environmental protection.

For the season of love filling the cool February air, let your actions translate to “I love you” with a well-thought of Valentine date from grooming to whipping delicious meals prepared right in your own home.

“Valentine’s is the perfect opportunity to show your special someone how you care,” comments Philips General Manager for Consumer Lifestyle, Ms. Angelia Oh. “While some may go to great lengths in preparing an extravagant night out, there are others who prefer a simple yet well-thought of date at home. With that, Philips is offering date preparation solutions to help you relax and enjoy the season of love.”

Grooming essentials for ladies

This styling tool creates beautifully straightened hair thanks to its ceramic plates which glides on smoothly for shiny tresses. In addition, this hair straightening tool provides less hair damage thanks to its Even Heat Distribution technology and More Care with ion conditioning for frizz-free hair.

Got no time to hit the bathroom but still want beautifully styled hair? Then opt for the Philips SalonDry Control Hairdryer. The SalonDry hairdryer has a volume diffuser to enhance hair volume for curls and bouncy styles and has a TurboBoost mode to let you quickly blow-dry hair without additional heat. Moreover, it comes with a CoolShot function that provides an intense burst of cold air used after styling to “set” your preferred hairstyle.
For fashionable looking tresses, pick the Philips ProCare AirStyler HP8656. Equipped with an “Even Heat Distribution” feature, this styling tool makes use of ceramic coated brushes with ion conditioning to protect hair from styling damage. It also distributes heat evenly to keep hair looking shiny, frizz-free and healthy.

If you’re planning to don your favorite dress to show off your legs this Valentine’s, choose an epilator that removes hair from the roots that will last you weeks. The Philips SatinSoft Epilator HP6521 clears out hair on sensitive body parts and exfoliates skin with its exfoliating brush to reveal an even more radiant skin. Moreover, it can be used wet or dry and on two-speed settings according to your needs.

Grooming essentials for men

It’s not just women who need to be prepared for date night, but men too. For a more expressive style that lets you trim, style and shave at the same time, choose the Philips StyleShaver QS6140. Equipped with the dual-ended electric beard styler and shaver, this nifty tool has everything you need that works on the toughest beards or to a very clean shave. The StyleShaver also lets you choose from 12 beard trimmer settings, ranging from 0.5mm to 10mm.

Avoid nicks and cuts with thePhilips Aquatouch AT750. This dual shaver has an Aquatec seal to ensure a comfortable dry shave and a refreshing wet shave using gel or foam for added comfort. It also glides on smoothly over the curves of your face, so you’re free of painful shaving cuts. Moreover, the Philips Wet and Dry shaver has a QuickRinse system for easy cleaning.

That perfect smile for your date night

Men and women definitely would be captivated with a bright smile in any occasion. Level up the dating game by donning your pearly whites at its best with Philips Sonicare EasyClean HX6511. Delivering unique and dynamic cleaning action, the Philips Sonicare EasyClean gently reaches deep between teeth and along the gum line for that perfect smile. Compared to a manual toothbrush, its Patented Sonic Technology removes plaque 2x better than a manual toothbrush. This would ensure the freshest breath and an extra point in any romantic move before or after a date meal.

Sumptuous and low-fat meal prep

For a low-fat but delicious date meal, choose to prepare your favorite fried food with thePhilips Airfryer. It lets you prepare great-tasting fried favorites with up to 80% less fat. The airfryer features Philips’ own Rapid Air Technology system that fries food with air to make it crispy on the outside, but tender on the inside. Not only does this help you fry food, it also lets you grill, roast and bake, making the airfryer your go-to solution for all your cooking needs.

Steaming food locks in nutrients and lets the natural juices and flavors spread throughout the cooking process. For nutritious and delicious steamed food, pick the Philips Jamie Oliver Food Steamer HD9132, which uses a flavor booster to infuse food with herbs. Moreover, this food steamer is large enough to cook meals in one go thanks to its 2.5L bain-marie bowl and 9L capacity and removable tray bottoms.

For a quick, healthy and nutritious date meal, opt for thePhilips Daily Collection Induction Cooker. Designed to shorten cooking time by 1/3, it seals in food’s nutrients fast thanks to its 2100W high power and is an ideal tool to cook a variety of healthy dishes. In addition, this induction cooker gives intuitive cooking with its sensitive sensor touch operation panel, easy to read display and full glass panel.

“Valentine’s should be time well-spent with your special someone. While preparing for a date can be time consuming, these offerings from Philips can help you save time to prepare for a simple, yet unforgettable date at home, even after the season is over,” concludes Ms. Oh.

DepEd, DPWH address 2010 backlog in classrooms

The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) presented 66,813 classrooms to President Benigno S. Aquino III to address the 2010 backlog.

“This is a collaborative work of private organizations and public institutions, showing commitment to quality education for Filipino learners,” Secretary Br. Armin Luistro FSC said at the ceremonial turnover of classrooms at Carmona National High School (CNHS), one of beneficiaries of additional classrooms. He emphasized significant role of the private sector and local government units (LGUs) in delivering the kind of education that every Filipino child deserved.

The education chief expressed his gratitude to the “partners in education” from the private sector, LGUs, and DPWH in fulfilling its promise to the Filipino learners.

“Before, this is just a dream—a seemingly impossible dream—but with the help of our friends from different sectors, both public and private, we are able to carry on our commitment to address 2010 backlog in classroom,” he added.

The classrooms, which range from one-story structures to multi-floor buildings, were constructed using national and local government funds and donations from the private sector. More than 35,000 classrooms were funded by the national budget; 13,189 classrooms built using LGU funds; 14,886 from local donations; 1,215 from foreign donations; and 2,242 from PPP for School Infrastructure Project (PSIP) I.

He also thanked President Benigno S. Aquino III for his continuous and unwavering support to the education sector. “Through the support and trust of our President Aquino, we are able to accomplish this.” Continuing commitment to basic education

“The Department of Education will continue to provide basic inputs to address incremental enrolment, regular wear and tear, and senior high school (SHS) requirements,” Luistro said. He added that DepEd shall construct more classrooms in 2014 to prepare for the full implementation of SHS (grades 11 and 12) in 2016.
