Pangasinan's ping-pong girl is Palaro's youngest athlete

J-An A. Sanchez is just like any other Palaro player. She has good grades in school, has won district, division and regional meets, and has collected numerous gold medals and awards.

This Table Tennis player from Rosales, Pangasinan has done it all, and she’s just 7 years old.

J-An A. Sanchez

Dubbed as 2015 Palarong Pambansa’s youngest athlete, it’s no surprise that J-An made it this far. She hailed from a family of Table Tennis players, led by her father and Coach, Allan B. Sanchez.

“Natuto siyang pumalo sa pagsingitsingit niya habang naglalaro yung mga kapatid niya. Nung na-discover nga na mayroon siyang talent, ang ginawa nung trainer niya ay binigyan siya ng piso sa bawat bola na maibalik niya.”

Her father said that being a kid, J-An delighted in such an incentive and was able to make as much as 20 pesos in one sitting.

Originally it was her brother and sister, AJ and Aljhay Sanchez, who were intended to train and compete in the Palarong Pambansa. J-An joined the District meet for the purpose of exposure and for her to have fun. Instead, this Grade 1 pupil beat all the Grade 6 students who entered the match– all of whom are much taller and much experienced than her.

“Siya na yung nagrepresent ng Division namin sa Regional Meet. Hindi namin ineexpect na mananalo siya kasi ayaw namin siyang ma-pressure. Pinapabayaan lang namin siya kasi kitang-kita na masaya siya pag naglalaro. Ang nangyari, tinalo niya yung mga malalakas na players ng Region 1 at ito n anga kami, andito ngayon sa Palarong Pambansa.” added Sanchez, saying that it is J-An and Aljhay who made it to the nation’s renowned sporting event.

When asked what J-An wants to do in life, the little darling of the crowd said “Gusto ko lang pong maglaro ng Table Tennis.Masayang masaya po kasi ako pag naglalaro ako.”

With her advanced skills and the youthful bliss she gets from playing, surely we’ll be seeing a lot of her in the next Palaro meets to come.

#Palaro2015: A special moments with Lina, long-jumper student athlete

There are many interesting situations you can see in a national event like the 2015 Palarong Pambansa where more than 12,000 participants, compete and do their best to win.

Here's about an amazing story.

Lina Abando

Lina Abando, the 9-year-old athlete participant in the long-jump competition in the Palarong Pambansa 2015, being held in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

A short conversation with Lina, she showed us that a little girl in the Kalinga mountain is happy and honest while sharing her life.

She became an student athlete and made it to the 2015 Palarong Pambansa for the first time. Gladly to be in. She told us and thankful that her mother gave her P20 as her "pocket money" so she have to use in the entire event from May 3 - 9.

The Deped and sponsors provide the student athletes their food, accomodation and all things they need.

In an interview, one asked her what would she do to the cash prize when she wins. "Isasauli ko sa nanay ko ang 20 pesos na bigay nya," she replied.

With laughs and one asked her "walang interes?" First she said, "wala po." When asked her why she’d only give back 20 pesos only. She said she will use the money to buy school supplies.

But after in a while she told us "ibibigay ko po 40 pesos." We smiled and love her because of her being candid and her inspiring moments she shared.

What do she wants to be when she grows up ? An adorable and charmed Lina said "gusto ko po maging doktor ng mga aso.” She wants to be a vet doctor.

What makes her special? I'm in tears actually.

Having a disability can make life so difficult, especially when you’re a little kid who just wants to play and do all the other things that your classmates get to do.

Very special, happy and inspiring young girl.

Lina is partially blind.

That’s why it’s so wonderful when we see a child overcome their disability and get a shot at a better life.

Athletes with intellectual disability, visual impairment and those who are orthopedically handicapped will have a chance to be scouted to compete in international events.

“Ang Palarong Pambansa, kagaya ng edukasyon, ay inclusive o bukas sa lahat. Wala itong pinipili, wala itong itinatangi. Ito ay para sa lahat na may pusong handang magpunyagi upang sa dulo ay magwagi.” -  Education Secretary Br. Armin Luistro FSC presents Palaro as a means to support the Department’s commitment to provide equal educational opportunities for all learners. (Sports, Education, Oportunities)

James Hardie: Living Without Compromise

Many people, when faced with time or budget constraints, or a decision between old and new ways of doing things, are forced to accept standards that are lower than desirable. Yet there is one aspect in life where there should be no room for compromise: the building of spaces where we live, work, play, and enjoy life to the fullest.

James Hardie—a highly respected, admired innovator and world leader in the building materials industry—espouses elevating standards and prioritizing quality. As a result, its products, especially the HardieFlex brand of durable fiber cement boards, have become the top choice among discerning architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and homeowners since the brand’s introduction to the local market in 1996.

The brand trusted by the experts, James Hardie products, provide durability and design flexibility. And this is enhanced by James Hardie guidelines on how not to compromise when it comes to safety, sustainability and cost-efficiency.

1. Put stock in things that last a long time

Founded in Australia in 1888, the company that pioneered state-of-the-art fiber cement technology in the 1980s has invested much in research and development for its cornerstone Philippines product range, HardieFlex.

Now, the most trusted fiber cement brand by architects in the country, HardieFlex is the go-to material for withstanding the test of time and resisting a host of problems. Unlike plywood, HardieFlex is resistant to moisture damage, fire, termites, rotting, and impact.

This durable product has also been tested on a variety of landscapes and weather conditions. The Philippines, in particular, is a tricky place in which to build homes and buildings, given its varying weather which ranges from hot and humid to cold and wet. HardieFlex® fiber cement products are specifically manufactured to perform superbly in the face of these unique factors affecting Philippine construction. It protects against moisture damage and rotting all year round, for many years to come.

2. Think cost-efficient instead of cheap

When local homeowners economize on construction materials, are they truly saving their money or just compromising on quality? Some materials like wood and plywood may be less expensive initially, but since they’re not as durable, they need to be repaired and replaced more often. Result: they’re more expensive in the long run.

Built to last, HardieFlex® is more pocket-friendly. It can be installed in various applications with minimal labor costs for homeowners. With HardieFlex®, construction can be cost-efficient without skimping on safety and structural integrity.

3. Choose both form and function

There are endless design possibilities with HardieFlex®. Initially marketed and known as material for ceilings and walls, the durable fiber cement boards has expanded its line, offering several applications such as eaves, fascia, flooring, wet areas, and external cladding.

HardieFlex Ceilings, HardieFlex Walls, HardieFlex Wet Area Solution, HardieFlex® Senepa, HardieFlex Eaves, HardiePlank Siding, and HardieFlex Flooring all allow for a wide variety of sizes and applications to fit your design and decorative taste.

4. Go for sustainable and health friendly

Years of experience, research and development, and knowledge from across the globe have made James Hardie products the ideal tool, not only because of their quality and durability. It aims to deliver an ideal and cost-efficient way of building spaces without forgetting two important elements: the people and the environment. With HardieFlex®, James Hardie delivers products that are both health- and eco-friendly.

First, its products are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are chemicals emitted in the air which may be harmful to people and the environment. Secondly, asbestos, a common additive found in other fiber board products, are 100% absent from HardieFlex® products. Research shows that VOCs can cause serious respiratory problems in children and the elderly. Without these harmful compounds threatening to pollute the air people breathe, it is much easier to enjoy life without worry.

HardieFlex® products are also energy-efficient and designed to provide thermal comfort. Moreover, the products use sustainable raw materials and goes through a manufacturing process which minimizes the impact on the environment.

5. Always go the extra mile

Confident of the top-notch quality of its products, James Hardie provides a ten-year warranty on all HardieFlex fiber cement boards. This winner of 3 out of 4 feature awards at the Architects’ Choice Awards Philippines 2014 by BCI Asia, including Most Trusted Brand for cement boards, also comes with excellent after-sales service. The company has dedicated hotlines for customer and technical support (toll-free 1-800-1-888-5427; or (02) 895-5427.

Living life without compromise seems like a very difficult undertaking. But with HardieFlex®, you won’t need to settle for anything but the best.

Power rates down this month

Lower spot market charges and cheaper fuel prices lead to generation charge reduction

OVERALL DECREASE MAY 2015 05.05.15 – May 2015 overall rate decrease infographic

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said that overall rates went down by PhP 0.70 per kilowatthour (kWh) this May. Said decrease is due to lower generation costs from all power suppliers of Meralco.

For a typical household consuming 200 kWh, the overall electricity bill will go down by PhP 140. At PhP 9.98 per kWh, this month’s rate is lower by PhP 1.46 compared to May 2014’s PhP 11.44 per kWh.

Lower generation costs from all suppliers

Generation charge decreased by PhP 0.60 per kWh from PhP 5.41 per kWh in April to PhP 4.81 per kWh this month. The reduction was mainly driven by lower charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and Independent Power Producers (IPPs), as well as a reduction in the National Power Corporation’s (NPC’s) Generation Rate Adjustment Mechanism (GRAM) collections.

Cost of power obtained from the WESM decreased by PhP 4.19 per kWh due to less occurrences and shorter duration of power plant outages. The Luzon Grid remained on “normal” state throughout the period of the Malampaya shutdown.

Meanwhile, average cost of the Independent Power Producers (IPP) was lower by PhP 0.75 per kWh due to the improved utilization level of the QPPL power plant and cheaper fuel prices obtained by the First Gas plants. The effect of the Malampaya shutdown was moderated by lower prices of condensate and natural gas in the April supply month versus March. Malampaya natural gas underwent its quarterly repricing to reflect the lower cost of fuel. From $10.39 per gigajoule (GJ) the previous period, price of natural gas has been reduced by 19% to $8.44 per GJ.

Average rates of plants under the Power Supply Agreements (PSAs) also decreased this month by PhP 0.06 per kWh. Finally, NPC’s collections of its GRAM similarly went down by PhP 0.06 per kWh.

The share of IPPs, PSAs, and WESM to Meralco’s total power requirements stood at 47, 43, and 10 percent respectively.

Adjustments in other bill components

In addition to the generation charge, taxes and other charges registered reductions of PhP 0.07 and PhP 0.08 per kWh, respectively. These offset a PhP 0.05 per kWh increase in the transmission charge.

Meralco reiterated that it does not earn from the pass-through charges, such as the generation and transmission charges. Payment for the generation charge goes to the power suppliers, while payment for the transmission charge goes to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). Of the total bill, only the distribution, supply, and metering charges accrue to Meralco.

Meralco’s distribution charge has not registered any adjustment and has remained at the same level for 10 months now or since July 2014.

Meralco supports Electrical Safety Month

Meralco also reminded its customers to observe electrical safety in line with its initiatives to support Electrical Safety Month.

The government has declared the month of May of every year as Electrical Safety Month. Meralco said it fully supports initiatives that raise public awareness and educate electricity consumers on the proper use of electrical appliances and gadgets so as to prevent and avoid electricity-related accidents.

TV5 surges with huge ratings for PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals Game 7

If there was still any doubt as to why the Philippines is a bona fide ‘basketball nation’, then TV5’s live and exclusive airing of the still much talked about Game 7 between Talk ‘N Text and Rain or Shine during the PLDT Home Telpad PBA 2015 Commissioner’s Cup Finals should speak volumes on how much Pinoys just cannot get enough of the hardcourt action in the PBA.

With on-court controversies, off-court drama, new rivalries and the undeniably enthralling action between the two teams further hyping what was already an unprecedented match that marked a first in PBA history where a do-or-die Game 7 finals match would extend regulation to a double overtime, recent overnight data from Nielsen Media Research shows that the Kapatid Network’s coverage of the game raked in high viewership ratings, marking a total average of 6.2% AMR and 22.5% in audience share.

This proved to be more than enough to propel the telecast among the Top 9 most watched primetime shows, and the highest sporting program to be broadcast on that day in the National Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM).

Aside from being the most watched offering of the Kapatid Network during the primetime block, it is also most worthy to note that at its peak, the game was watched by a whopping number of over 4.1 million viewers, with TV5 even lording over the ratings game against both ABS-CBN and GMA-7 within the channel’s coverage of the grueling overtime periods of the match. During this time, TV5 was able to rake in a remarkable average of 9.0% AMR and 34.1% in audience share.

The basketball fever was also clearly felt across all islands in the country, as translated by TV5’s dominance over the competition across key urban areas, including Urban Visayas and most especially in Urban Mindanao. The extended regulation of the Game 7 finals registered big numbers for the Kapatid Network with an average of 9.8% AMR and 37% in audience shares in Urban Visayas (compared to ABS-CBN’s 9.2% AMR, 34.6% shares; and GMA’s 3.0% AMR and 11.5% audience shares) and 9.8% AMR and 50% audience shares in Urban Mindanao (where ABS-CBN posted 6.4% AMR and 32.6% audience shares while GMA registered only 2.0% AMR and 10.4% shares).

With this historic game culminating what is arguably one of the most memorable PBA conferences in recent memory, hardcore fans and followers of the sport can look forward to even more edge-of-your-seat basketball action during the highly-anticipated 2015 PBA Governor’s Cup, as currently telecast on TV5, AksyonTV, Radyo5 92.3 News FM and via livestreaming on www.Sports5.ph.

LG introduces first-of-its kind Dual Door-in-Door refrigerator

Global technology innovator LG Electronics continues to expand its line-up of premium and practical refrigerators as it launches another first in the market, the Dual Door-in-DoorTM (DID) refrigerator.

Dual Door-in-Door™ makes use of LG’s award-winning door-inside-refrigerator-door concept, doubling convenience over its single Door-in-Door™ counterparts. Powered by LG’s Inverter Linear Compressor, the refrigerator is energy efficient, runs quietly, and serves as a durable, long-lasting addition to any kitchen.

A beautiful display piece

Encased in a diamond black stainless steel finishing with a cutting-edge touch display system, this sophisticated appliance sports two mini-doors, each seamlessly mounted on top of the unit’s main top doors, allowing owners to store and conveniently locate frequently consumed food and drinks. The refrigerator comes in an expertly crafted design which is aesthetically pleasing and ideal for any kitchen and home interior.

Smart and functional

The Dual DID feature also allows users to open the refrigerator without exposing its entire interior, thus minimizing the loss of cold air, which is now even made crisper with the upgraded Hygiene Fresh+TM air purification system. The right Door-in-Door™ compartment is accessible from the outside with the simple push of a button allowing it to be used as a ‘family space’. The left Door-in-Door™ compartment can be opened by a handle at the bottom of the door and serves as a designated ‘cooking space’, ideal for storing essential cooking ingredients such as previously prepared vegetables, condiments and sauces.

Both Door-in-Door™ compartments are also equipped with Moving Baskets, enabling users to easily adjust the height of the internal compartments as they see fit.

However, LG makes use of this dead space through its groundbreaking Extra Space™ compartment which opens up a new area in the refrigerator ideal for storing small food items such as eggs, cheese and sliced deli meats. Moreover, with the Folding and Sliding Shelves, storing food items of any shape or size has never been more convenient. LG’s comprehensive organization system also extends to the freezer section’s EZ Ice Maker and Easy Pull Drawer that is easy to open and can safely support heavy items.

A refreshing drink that can turn back time for you, stay fit and healthy - Premium HyC150 and Ginger Black Tea Extract

Living a healthy lifestyle is what everyone must have. Have a healthy and well-balanced diet, enough rest, regular exercise, and positive perspective in life.

Many people never had to devote much extra effort to staying fit. Most of us spend the majority of our day sitting at a desk, doing work in the computer on the table, or on the couch and many hours on the road in the car. People neglect their health because of the hectic daily schedules but there are little things that you can do each day that will add to being healthy and fit.

Now in the Philippines are potent products that can make you look young, stay physically fit, and feel good inside out. Products that will make you feel you’re turning back the hands of time.

We're talking about Premium HyC150 and Ginger Black Tea Extract. Premium HyC150, the rediscovered modern “fountain of youth” manufactured by Fine Japan Co. Ltd., is any person’s ally in remaining healthy, vibrant, and radiant.

Premium HyC150 helps you achieve this state because it combines three youth-inducing elements for a more potent supplement drink: collagen, hyaluronic acid, and ubiquinol.

These are also aided by other active ingredients like vitamin C, biotin, elastin and Pearl Coix. Premium HyC150 is the only beverage that combines these three powerful nutrients, effectively unleashing significant benefits for the body. Taken daily results can be seen within a period of one to two weeks.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is nature’s moisturizer, a gel-like water holding molecule that acts as a space filler and cushioning agent in the body. Collagen strengthens skin structure to prevent it from sagging. Finally, ubiquinol is an antioxidant that protects the body from environmental toxins, cell damage, and system injury.

Based on clinical studies done in Japan, North America, and Europe, about 93 percent of users reported improved hair, nails, and skin with continued use. Although results can vary per individual, it only takes one to two weeks to see the positive changes.

The best partner to drink Premium HyC150 is with Ginger Black Tea, also made by Fine Japan Co. Ltd. It contains turmeric, also belonging to the ginger family that has been used widely since old times for increased health. Experts say that turmeric contains curcumin abundantly, believed to strengthen liver function to promote metabolism.

#Palaro2015 : Floating Olympic Swimming Pool at the Sea in Panabo City

This is my first time traveling in Panabo City, and finding an amazing Floating Olympic Swimming Pool at the Sea!

For 2015 Palarong Pambansa, many first time to be featured and to be experience by student athletes. One of these is the first ever floating swimming pool by the sea here in Purok Banban, Cagangohan, Panabo City, Davao del Norte.

A brief meeting with Davao del Norte official, and swimming coach Mustari Raji, who conceptionalized a different swimming pool, floating as they call it, even in the sea. He shared to us that he wanted that all the children of the Davao del Norte to be trained in an olympic size swimming pool for free. He said that not all students can afford for a club membership, swimming pool and even coaches fee.

"My advocacy is to make an Olympic-Size swimming pool accessible to all DavNor children, to be trained and to be part of the Palaro."

"It's now became a reality, with the help of the funding of the Davao del Norte Provincial, with Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario, " Coach Mustari said.

The floating pool is made of PVC drum, anahaw and bamboo wood. We were excitingly go near the floating swimming pool, and of course with the children of Davnor.

The swimming pool at the sea is a 10 lane olympic-size swimming pool with a dimension of 50 meters in length and 25 meters in width.

The total cost of the project was at only 400 thousand pesos, as compaired to a real olympic-size swimming pool in a club that would cost around 3 million pesos.

Gladly to see how the children enjoy their experience as they are being trained in the floating olympic-sized swimming pool.
