PRO EARTH RUN to kick-start EARTH DAY 2014 celebration

Earth Day is Everyday, Everywhere for Everyone. Earth Day has become truly a dynamic celebration with a meaningful advocacy. This year’s celebration involves the holding of the “PRO-EARTH RUN” to formally launch and highlight the Earth Day 2014 Celebration and to mobilize resources to support the continuing advocacies of EDNPI on climate change and the conservation of the country’s biodiversity resources.

Year after year since the 1990’s, the Philippines participates in the worldwide celebration of Earth Day. The Philippines’ celebration is unique in that it is a coming together of government, civil society, and churches to highlight the country’s environmental health and renew their partnership to work for the common good.

Mr. Roberto Guevarra talkss during the media launch of Pro Earth Run
held at the Merrel branch, Market Market Mall, Taguig City
Since 1999, the partnership has evolved into a loose coalition called Earth Day Network Philippines (EDNPI) with a Secretariat that directly coordinates the Network’s members from local government units to non-governmental organizations, from business corporations to churches and academic institutions, and from big organizations to individuals who want to do something for the environment. Through Presidential Proclamations, Earth Day has become a permanent environmental holiday of the country and has become a fixture in the national environmental consciousness.

For 2014, Earth Day celebration gives focus to CLIMATE CHANGE. This year is especially important because we have just experienced the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda, which almost brought all our brothers and sisters in the Visayas and Northern Palawan down to their knees. More of these super typhoons are expected to come as a result of human-induced climate change.

Aside from the abovementioned, 2014 is also equally important for the Network because it is celebrating its 15th anniversary. It was in 1999 that Mr. Mark Dubois of Earth Day International visited the Philippines and helped form the Earth Day Network Philippines in the house of the late Odette Alcantara, the founding Country Coordinator. Since then, the celebration of Earth Day has become truly a dynamic celebration with a meaningful Main Event held in different areas of the country to highlight that Earth Day is Everyday, Everywhere for Everyone.

The Earth Day Network Philippines’ PRO EARTH RUN is presented by Manila Nature’s Link Corporation’s Malungai Life Oil (www.malungailifeoil.ph), a proudly Philippine-made all-natural concentrated vegetable extract noted by the Johns Hopkins University as the world’s first and only product developed from pure Moringa Oliefera seeds and leaves, and the United Parcel Services or UPS. The PRO EARTH RUN is also supported by First Gen, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes, Merrell – ProEarthRun’s shoe sponsor, St. Luke’s Medical Center – ProEarthRun’s medical partner, Greenlite Banner – ProEarthRun’s official printing partner, Globe, Holcim, The Body Shop, Coco Dolce, Business Mirror, The Manila Times, Malaya Business Insight, BusinessWorld, Circuit Magazine, 106.7 Energy FM, 107.5 WIN Radio, SM Tickets, SM Cinema, and the BGC.

The culmination of the celebration will be during the Earth Day 2014 Main Event. To be celebrated at the Quezon Memorial Circle, there is where we will be highlighting the network members’ efforts and achievements for the past year. The Main Event is also the occasion wherein the DENR Secretaries have presented the State of the Philippine Environment Address annually. Together with the Main Event is the SANDIWANG: Isang Diwa sa Pagdiriwang ng Kalikasan, an Interfaith Celebration of Earth Day that we intend to be a more artistic and cultural celebration.

Also in line is the Earth Day 2014 Advocacy Fair, where individuals can learn more on how they can participate or volunteer in the specific advocacies, programs, and projects of different organizations, national government agencies, and local government units.

Sulit.com.ph is now OLX.ph

Sulit.com.ph, the Philippines’ leading buy-and-sell website, is now OLX.ph.

New name represents a stronger invitation to people everywhere to join the online selling movement and become one of the next 1,000,000 Filipinos who sell their personal items they are no longer using on OLX.

The rebranding is set to inspire and encourage Filipinos to improve their lives by selling personal items they are no longer using and turning these to cash.
The new name also emphasizes a stronger focus on making it faster and easier for ordinary Filipinos to sell their things online, connect with others to meet up, and complete transactions.

“The name change represents our commitment to change how Filipinos perceive online selling. That selling stuff you no longer use is simple and can actually help you earn additional cash,” says OLX Philippines Managing Director RJ David who is running the rebranded site together with Arianne David – the same founders who propelled Sulit to online supremacy.

Aside from providing a more convenient platform, OLX will also focus on growing its C2C business by encouraging every Pinoy to sell their unused items. David observes that “Filipinos do not have much of a tradition of selling 2nd hand items so that most households end up with a clutter of items that are no longer used. If sold, these can turn into real value, which people can use to buy new things.”

David explains that with OLX, Filipinos now have a quicker and more convenient way of selling their stuff. And posting of ads remains free! Whether it be through the OLX app or the web, all they have to do is just click and post. Within seconds, you can already list an item for sale.

Within minutes, your item will appear on OLX, possibly hear from interested buyers within hours, and within days, meet up with buyers who can trade your stuff for cash. “In no time at all, you’ll have simplified and improved your life by selling on OLX on a regular basis,” he adds.

On OLX, there are buyers for almost anything you have to sell – that guitar you no longer strum, your baby sister’s stroller tucked away in the bodega, or that kiddie bike that you and your siblings have outgrown. Millions of users from all over the world have already sold their items on OLX and now, you can too.

Sulit.com.ph is now OLX.ph

Previous Sulit members do not need to create a new user account or repost active ads since these will not be affected by the brand change. Everything that users came to love about Sulit – free posting of ads, wide variety of items for sale, and thousands of sellers to choose from – will all be reflected on OLX.

The website may bear their new brand name and colors but their commitment to make online selling easy for Filipinos remains the same. Some of the key improvements to expect include the simplified ad process, upgraded Android app which will soon become available on iOS, and the current expansion of their Customer Support to assist their users even at night and on weekends.

As expected, the rebranding will not affect the company’s local management team. Team OLX Philippines will still be managed by RJ and Arianne David, along with the same Sulit team that has been of service since Sulit’s launch in 2006.

With the new brand identity, OLX aspires to reach the next 1M Pinoy online sellers and David is positive they can achieve that in the near future. “Millions have already sold their items on OLX and Filipinos can easily do the same.”

And with this positive news, OLX Philippines also launches its “YESSS YAMAN!” movement – a campaign that enjoins the public to make online selling a conscious habit, and one that gives them extra earning opportunities while decluttering their homes from unused items.

Now, it’s time for every Pinoy to check their homes for items that are no longer being used because on OLX.ph, everything sells.

Sell them, earn money, and say YESSS YAMAN!

Electrolux Design Lab 2014 with the theme Creating Healthy Homes

This 2014 marks Electrolux Design Lab’s 12th year. Electrolux is inviting budding design students from all over the world to join Design Lab 2014, their annual design competition with the theme "Creating Healthy Homes", which aims to promote healthy and sustainable lifestyles to millions of people.

Imagine this: You had an exhausting day at school and you can’t wait to get home and rest. On your way home, the weather was unpredictable and the pollution in the streets was horrible. As you enter your room, you realize that it is not as spotless as you hoped it was. You come in to the kitchen to find good food, but you find nothing on the dining table. You had a draining day and the last thing you would want to do is take care of the household chores.

As you let out a weary sigh, you realize that your home appliances can take care of all these. You see the MAB cleaner scanning your house and deploying its flying mini-robots to the areas in need of cleaning. Meanwhile, an Atonium 3D Food Printer has determined your nutritional needs and is working on a healthy meal for you. At the same time, the Breathing Wall started to purify the air while recreating an environment that will help you relive a happy memory. Imagine this futuristic scenario made possible by you.
The futuristic MAB cleaner scans the environment and deploys nano robots to clean dirty surfaces.
