How will HONOR conquer the Filipino market while stepping out of Huawei’s shadows?

HONOR promises to provide an interconnected world to the Filipino market with new software experience, smartphones, laptops, tablets, and other IoT products backed by its own Research and Development Facility.

Since HONOR’s independence and official comeback to the Philippines, the consumer global technology brand revealed their future product line ups and their own Research and Development facility. The separation led the brand to invest more on its technology without losing the learnings they gained as a former sub-brand. HONOR was formerly owned by Huawei except for the smartphone business.

With Huawei’s standards and the support of Google, HONOR is expected to seamlessly deliver feature-packed consumer devices.

Ecosystem with Google Mobile Services
Consumers are significantly questioning the presence of Google Mobile Services given the remarkable similarities of Huawei and HONOR products. Google’s absence has made HONOR and Huawei phones less recommendable to countries who use Google Apps the most. The Philippines is no exception to that, with almost 90% of smartphone users in the country using Android devices according to a Statista measurement.

Last October 2021, HONOR launched globally the first smartphone with GMS, the HONOR 50, which helped the brand to be strongly placed as the third-biggest smartphone seller in China.

All smartphone line ups of HONOR from its low to mid-range up to its flagship foldables are equipped with Google Apps and services.

Turning to the devices, HONOR X series, HONOR 70, and HONOR Magic Series are the smartphone line ups that the Filipino market is eyeing to grab in Q4 2022.

HONOR’s rise to the top

An IDC report in Q2 2022 showed that HONOR is now the top mobile smartphone brand in China with a 19.5% market share, up 88.6% from the same period last year, and 8.8% from the previous quarter.

The brand’s overall positioning in many categories helped achieve its dominance with the new HONOR 70 series, according to IDC, “helped to sustain its high growth.” The budget-friendly Changwan 30 series and Play 6 series also met the needs of the entry-level segment, while the Magic 4 series also allowed Honor to strengthen its share in the >US$600 high-end segment.

On building a fresh and separate identity

HONOR recently revealed its first self-funded factory demonstrating excellence to manufacture high-quality premium products.
Automated Arm at the HONOR Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park

“The opening of the HONOR Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park was a significant milestone of our success in integrating our R&D capabilities into our manufacturing processes. The consolidation allows us to better harness our expertise across both fields,” said George Zhao, CEO of HONOR Device Co, Ltd. “In addition to bolstering our manufacturing capacities, the smart manufacturing facility houses world-class production, testing and quality control equipment that ensures our premium products live up to our customers’ high expectations.”

Automation, digitalization, and intelligent technology serve as the cornerstones underpinning the Park’s core manufacturing capabilities. The Park operates with 75 percent of its production line automated, minimizing the risk of human error. Additionally, more than 40 percent of the automated production equipment is developed in-house, which serves as further evidence of the tight integration between R&D and manufacturing capabilities at the Park.

All key equipment in the production facility supports digital control systems, allowing HONOR to better manage the entire production line and reap better efficiency as well as improve product quality.

Find future-ready jobs in JobStreet and CSC’s nationwide Government Online Career Fair 2022

Leading online job portal JobStreet by SEEK, in partnership with the Philippine’s Civil Service Commission (CSC), encourages job seekers to join the Government Online Career Fair 2022 happening on September 19 to 23, 2022, in line with their commitment to providing future-ready government jobs for Filipinos, particularly fresh graduates.

Over 20,000 available government jobs both on the JobStreet platform and on the Government Online Career fair are up for grabs, comprised of various roles such as Guidance Counselor, Administrative Aide, Revenue Officer, Engineer, Planning Officer, Medical Officer, Nurse, etc.

Interested applicants can also explore other vacancies for Project Development Officer, Accountant, Auditor, Executive Assistant, and Information Technology Officer, among others.

The Government Online Career Fair is also in celebration of the 122nd anniversary of civil service in the Philippines and will be joined by more than 120 government agencies including the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Environment and Natural Resource (DENR), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), and many more.

“For two years since the pandemic, JobStreet and the Civil Service Commission have successfully helped Filipinos find government jobs through online channels. With this year’s online career fair, we hope we’ll be able to empower more candidates with future-ready opportunities,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

With many government jobs open for candidates, JobStreet by SEEK underscores that this is an opportune time for candidates, including fresh graduates, to establish a steady career progression and networking opportunities while finding a sense of purpose through helping the nation. Furthermore, the job portal shares that many government job roles offer a work-life balance which is currently a top priority for most Filipino applicants.

Aside from convenient job applications, the event will also allow candidates to learn more from the webinars conducted by career experts throughout the duration of the job fair. Guest speakers will tackle topics related to working for a digital job, building a website, career in government, government job flexibility, among others,

Empowering the “lockdown generation”

In its third Government Online Career Fair with CSC, JobStreet by SEEK aims to help and empower fresh graduates who have been facing numerous labor market challenges due to the pandemic.

With more Filipinos still looking for jobs that fit their lifestyle and preference, stiff competition awaits fresh graduates as they enter the workforce, not to mention the returning experienced and even migrant workers. Moreover, young jobseekers in the Philippines face multiple labor market risks such as severe disruptions in education and training, low earnings, limited employment prospects, and magnified job search constraints—all on top of the need for digital tools and devices among employees to secure job opportunities.

“While digital tools and innovation can help continue education and upskilling and is an advantage for the youth, there's much more that is needed to be done for our country to catch up when it comes to internet access, speed, and affordability. The youth needs to be supported in their journey to having access to job opportunities,” shared JobStreet Philippines Head of Marketing Kim Viray.

JobStreet and CSC will be offering 2,000 on the GOCF platform, and roughly 20,000 on the JobStreet Philippines platform, open for fresh graduates nationwide.

Top roles include Engineers, Administrative Officers, Revenue Officers, Nurses, Executive Assistants, Accountants, Auditors, and IT officers.

Since 2020, JobStreet and CSC through the Government Online Career Fair have brought together over 200,000 participants and more than 120 government agencies.

Harnessing the pure value of team spirit and togetherness created by the universal love of football, Hyundai Motor, with and through FIFA, is engaging with people all over the world towards one big goal. Filipinos have the opportunity to participate by test driving the New Creta. Through this, customers not only get a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to Qatar to witness the FIFA World Cup™ in action but also experience the innovative subcompact crossover SUV being offered by the brand in the local market.

A Welcome Lunch, hosted by Hyundai Motor Company, bringing together around 200 supporters around the globe will also be part of the itinerary, slated to take place between November 20 to December 2.

Sustainable mobility for the FIFA World Cup

Hyundai Motor first joined forces with FIFA in 1999 and has since then become its automotive provider and sponsor. This time, the brand is taking a step further to position itself as a sustainability partner by deploying eco-friendly vehicles to this year’s FIFA World Cup™, a first in the history of the event. The fleet, which will include the IONIQ 5 and Santa Fe Hybrid and Elec City Bus, are going to be used to transport national team players, VIPs and event officials. Moreover, to expand reach and spread the cause, Hyundai Motor is also pledging 1% of its sponsorship fee to Common Goal, the world’s leading social movement in football.

A group of ambassadors, “Team Century”, was formed by the brand in amplification of the initiative. Led by former England national team player Steven Gerrard, together with K-pop supergroup BTS, Afghan refugee soccer player and Danish UNESCO ambassador Nadia Nadim, American fashion designer Jeremy Scott, contemporary Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn, visual storyteller Nicky Woo, South Korean football icon Jisung Park, former Oman national team goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi and Boston Dynamics’ Spot® robot.

New Hyundai Creta

The newest addition to the product line up of Hyundai Motor is a sub-compact crossover SUV that is efficient yet fun, stylish but safe and easy to drive. Innovative on every aspect from design to convenience features.

  • Design

In the front, the New Creta flaunts a bold ‘Parametric Jewel’ grille with integrated daytime running lights (DRL) and a unique headlamp architecture. The side lines express a more muscular and agile body shape. Its long hood, connected black A pillar, wide C pillar, straight roof line and the deep wheel-arch gives a wider and stable stance completing the muscular look. Behind, the individual lamps match the equally daring front. Paired with the silver skid plate are signature “boomerang” shaped LED rear lamps that add to the unique identity of the vehicle. On the inside, refined lines on the side panels continued on to the dashboard form a clean, symmetrical T-shaped layout. Access panels, buttons and compartments are neatly organized and kept uncluttered to lessen visual driving obtrusions.

  • Performance

Under the hood is a 1.5-liter SmartStream engine which allows optimal airflow control, more effective combustion, better heat and friction control and reduced exhaust. The New Creta uses an Intelligent Variant Transmission (iVT), Hyundai Motor’s flagship propriety technology, that regulates vehicle speed more cleverly than the “step-by-step” of an automatic gearbox. These enable an overall improved fuel economy while maintaining high power and torque output. It also comes with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) system complemented by Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Start Assist Control (HAC).

  • Comfort and Safety

Leading the segment in terms of driver safety, the brand’s suite of intelligent cameras and ultrasonic sensors called Hyundai Smartsense is standard to the New Creta. This comprises of functions such as Forward Collison-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Reverse Parking Distance Warning and Rear-View Monitor. For added comfort and functionality, there is also a 10.25” TFT LCD cluster that has multi-lingual settings and user-friendly information menus. This is accompanied by an 8” touchscreen infotainment display compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a fast wireless charger for hands-free connectivity.

The model is available in four (4) colors which are Creamy White, Magnetic Silver Metallic, Dragon Red Pearl and Midnight Black Pearl. It has three (3) variants starting with the 1.5 GL 6MT, 1.5 GL CVT and 1.5 GLS CVT. The latter, comes with a black roof for a distinct two-tone styling.

New AXA campaign brings ‘Me-Time’ to Asia’s sandwich generation, encouraging them to redefine what it means to be well

“Make Time For Me-Time” deepens AXA’s commitment to provide tangible and meaningful support
for positive mind health

AXA today launches an Asia-wide campaign encouraging everyone to ‘Make Time For Me-Time’, normalising the importance of making time for yourself because healthcare starts with self-care.

The campaign was inspired by the needs of Asia’s sandwich generation, who are caught between caring for their elderly parents and their children, meaning they find themselves spending their waking hours caring for others. When they do find a few minutes to devote to themselves, they can often feel guilty or ashamed – especially if it means telling someone ‘No’.

This insight reflects AXA’s continued focus on promoting positive mind health both in and out of the workplace. This includes raising awareness of its importance to overall health and breaking down stigma through initiatives like its annual Mind Health and Wellbeing Study, as well as equipping individuals with the tools to improve their own mental wellbeing, such as through its recent Fit to Flourish series that provided a path to developing the 10 skills that underpin good mental health.

“For the sandwich generation in Asia, cultural expectations mean it is normal to spend your waking hours caring for others, whether at home or at work. Yet AXA’s own research and experience in serving our customers shows that self-care is critical to wellbeing and the more you care for yourself, the more you can care for others,” says Gordon Watson, CEO of AXA Asia and Africa. “We therefore want to normalise the importance of taking time out for yourself, free from guilt, as a necessary part of what it means to be well.”

Watch the campaign film

The new integrated campaign is steeped in the science of colour: soft blues help with mental fatigue, red is associated with energy and improving blood circulation, and yellows create a sense of warmth.

To bring this to life, AXA has also collaborated with renowned artist YOSHIROTTEN to create an ‘Art Care Series’. A specially created series of eye, breathing and stretching exercises aim to soothe the body and mind using the science of shape, colour and sound. Ranging from 30-seconds to 15 minutes in length, the outdoor activations will be placed in high-traffic areas to remind people to take time out for themselves.

Experience the Art Care Series

Created by Publicis Groupe Hong Kong, ‘Make Time for Me-Time’ is launching Asia-wide in markets including Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines, with influencers sharing their personal experiences and tips for making time for Me-Time.

New Airbnb data shows how tourism has dispersed post-pandemic, benefiting rural off-the-beaten-path communities in the Philippines and Southeast Asia

Across parts of Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific, Airbnb recorded an increase in non-urban nights booked in Q2 2022 when compared with Q2 2019

In the Philippines, travel interest in destinations outside major cities have increased with guest searches for Siquijor surging over 280 percent

Tourism dispersal is creating new economic opportunities for more people in emerging destinations as they look for ways to combat rising costs of living

As the travel rebound continues to unfold, the benefits of tourism are spreading across the Asia Pacific. In Southeast Asia, new analysis by Airbnb reveals that the resurgence in domestic and inbound tourism is empowering locals to earn a living and make ends meet.

With people continuing to embrace flexible new approaches to travel and living, communities that have traditionally missed out in the past are increasingly well-positioned to secure a bigger slice of the tourism pie, according to new Airbnb report Further Afield: Spreading the Benefits of the Travel Revolution’. Across the region, this has presented fresh opportunities for locals looking to supplement their income as they grapple with rising costs of living.

Across the Asia Pacific, Airbnb nights booked in non-urban areas have increased in South Korea (up more than 180 percent ), India (up about 140 percent), and Australia (up about 60 percent) in Q2 2022 as compared to Q2 2019. In Southeast Asia, searches for stays in Siquijor in the Philippines surged by more than 280 percent while searches for Marang in Malaysia almost doubled.

The typical earnings for non-urban Hosts increased correspondingly in the same period for a number of destinations. In Australia and South Korea, typical host earnings have more than doubled as travel returned in full force. In the Philippines, almost half of local Airbnb hosts surveyed said their earnings have helped them navigate rising costs of living including housing, daily necessities, and home improvement needs.

Not only are travelers eyeing destinations off the beaten path, they’re also looking to stay longer. Notably, nights booked for long-term stays (stays longer than 28 days) in non-urban areas approximately doubled in popular travel and remote working hotspot Thailand in Q2 2022, up from Q2 2019 pre-pandemic.

In Southeast Asia, a number of destinations outside major metropolitan hubs were popular  among travelers on Airbnb for long-term stays in Q2 2022. Examples included:

Dapa, Panglao, Dumaguete and Silang in the Philippines

Ipoh, Kuah, Semenyih, and Port Dickson in Malaysia

Koh Pha Ngan, Koh Lanta and Krabi in Thailand

Mich Goh, Airbnb’s Head of Public Policy for Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong and Taiwan, said: “More than two years since the start of the pandemic, we continue to see fundamental shifts in travel that are creating new opportunities for off-the-beaten-track communities. It’s incredibly exciting to see travelers so enthusiastic about exploring new destinations, as well as the positive economic impact cascading to locals.

“The increasing popularity of Dapa, Panglao, Dumaguete and Silang reinforce the importance of the Department of Tourism’s plans to drive tourism development in the countryside and promote lesser-known destinations.  We are committed to continuing to work together with governments and stakeholders to keep inspiring travelers to step off the beaten path, and help ensure more communities can share in the benefits of tourism.”

In addition to encouraging travelers to explore further afield through innovative search tools such as Categories and I’m Flexible, Airbnb remains committed to partnering with governments and communities in Southeast Asia, including in the Philippines. The company has partnered with Thailand and Indonesia’s tourism authorities on a range of ‘Live and Work Anywhere’ initiatives to attract global digital nomads and remote workers, as part of broader efforts to drive inbound tourism as travel returns.
