MIDEA: Revolutionizing Convenient Home Living, Launched iAdd Washing Machine

Home is the place that we love most, with the family we love and taking care.  Everyone likes having a clean home! As mother, I always clean refrigerator, oven and lot of home appliances on a regular basis. The bathroom is one of the most commonly used rooms in the house. It can also become one of the dirtiest rooms in the house if you do not keep up with regular chores. Each person responsible for washing, drying, and putting away their own clothing. These are a laborious and time consuming tasks, which often leaves one with fatigue. However, there are ways in which one can smartly manage all the household chores.

Home is a sanctuary and the moments spent there are precious. We take off our heels, play with our kids, and settle in to recharge which is why we seek to achieve the ideal living conditions in our homes. Vital to keeping a home are the accomplishment of chores and tasks. This is where some of the tension lies; chores like washing the dishes, sweeping the floor, and doing the laundry consume time and energy that should be spent relaxing with our loved ones.

The good people from the world’s largest home appliance manufacturer, Midea, have long recognized this predicament. And in their continuous effort to provide surprisingly friendly solutions for the ones who treasure tiny moments at home, comes their latest and greatest smart product to date: The iADD Washing Machine.

And last June 9, the iAdd Washing Machine was successfully launched in the Philippines. Media VIPS were in full attendance to the exclusive gathering at the Abenson Global City to witness the unveiling of a definite upgrade for convenient living as we know it.

"If you are able to do home chores in a worry-free manner, it makes the home more harmonious. This is the driving force behind Midea Solutions." - Philip Trapaga, General Manager.

The iAdd Washing Machine revolutionizes the laundry workload by making it super easy and worry-free. The iAdd Auto-Dosing Technology, the first and one of its kind here in the country, ensures up to 44% savings on detergent and fabric softener.

This technology has an intelligent weighing system, with a precision rate of +/- 300g. It weighs the laundry and based on this, releases the right amount of detergent and fabric softener. Aside from the savings, consumers don’t have to worry about putting too much or too little detergent and fabric softener.

The iAdd washing machine also has a Cleanliness Meter that detects dirt and soap for a better wash. The machine will automatically set an additional rinse cycle if there is still soap residue in the water. This feature also ensures that your clothes won’t have that funky smell from soap residue stuck in your clothes.

In terms of noise, the iAdd washing machines ensure that you enjoy peace and quiet with its silent and efficient inverter motor. It’s so quiet, you don’t even notice that it’s running.

Lastly, the iAdd front load has an Auto Dryer Sensor that runs the ideal drying setting for your clothes so you save on time, electricity plus you save your clothes from over drying and shrinking.

Add to that the sleek, modern, and durable design it comes in, this appliance is everything you need to say goodbye to your laundry woes. Midea is definitely set to make home living as convenient and comfortable as ever, one smart product at a time.

As the new Midea Ambassador Chef Rob Pengson graced the event with his beautiful wife, Sunshine Pengson. They shared to the attendees their secrets to successfully being able to manage the busy lifestyle that comes with being professional chefs and parents to their two lovely kids.

"We make sure to suppport each other doing the household chores. Rob is a wonderful hands-on dad," shares Sunshine. "And of course, we have Midea as our third partner to make our home life happy."

They, along with all the other invitees expressed their glee and excitement over the next level innovation Midea has brought into the Filipino Home.

Franchisers optimistic on entrep growth under new admin

The Association of Filipino Franchisers, Inc. (AFFI) has expressed big hopes for entrepreneurs after hearing President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s plans for the sector over the last few days.

Duterte has bared his 8-point economic agenda, which his administration plans to implement once he officially assumes office. He has also vowed to end red tape and corruption in the government to fast-track business processing, promising to cut business registration to only three days.

Ricardo Cuna

“We’ve been hoping to hear something like this from our would-be leader even before the elections,” says AFFI Executive Vice President Ricardo Cuna.

“We’re ranked pretty low in terms of ease of doing business here in the country, and that’s primarily because of our current entrepreneurial ecosystem. I think most of us in the industry agree that it’s the first thing we need to improve.”

Cuna cited the latest World Bank Group’s Doing Business 2016 report, where the Philippines ranked 103rd out of 189 economies with regard to “processing business permits and registrations”. It also came 6th place among its ASEAN counterparts, with Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, and Vietnam outranking the country for the first five slots.

“This situation is one of the factors that slows down the growth of entrepreneurship in the country. Hearing directly from President-elect Duterte that he plans to focus on resolving that gives us confidence that this will all change soon,” mused Cuna.

‘Strike while the iron is hot’

The business community is waiting to hear more of Duterte’s economic plans since his posting a landslide victory last May 9.

Armando “Butz” Bartolome
“Our economy has been tremendously growing these past few years, and it isn’t showing any sign of slowing down. We’re on a tight race here. We have to strike while the iron is hot. That’s why we want to learn more of what he intends to do so we could also act and do our part,” argues Franchise Guru Armando “Butz” Bartolome, one of AFFI’s founders and current Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Bartolome said the next administration’s primary steps are crucial in maintaining and increasing the country's momentum. He praised Duterte for taking cue from the Aquino administration and continuing some of the healthier economic policies the latter has made throughout his time in office.

“There’s no shame in continuing what has been proven beneficial for the nation,” stressed Bartolome. “What the incoming administration should do, however, is to throw in improvements on these reforms and accelerate implementation of programs for the economy and the entire entrepreneurial community.”

The British School Manila continues partnership with One Million Lights, and CAS Week

On Monday 23rd May 2016, The British School Manila’s Year 4 students went on a visit to a rural community in Tagaytay to distribute 75 solar powered lights to 75 families. The visit had a notable effect on the students and staff who spent time with the community, donating one light each to a family.

The solar panel lights donated by BSM make a real difference to the lives of people living without electricity. The amazing fundraising efforts of our Year 4 students, parents and staff throughout the year should be congratulated. The students raised funds from a stall they ran during the BSM Fete in May, as well as designing, making and selling Mother's Day cards. It is wonderful to see all of the hard work result in such a life-changing contribution.

Year 4’s activity is part of the BSM Service Learning programme and happens in the same week our International Baccalaureate students set out for Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) Week with the highlight on Bayanihan.

The common aim of all of BSM Service Learning projects is to let our students engage with an issue of global importance and to plan and initiate a project to tackle this at a local level. Our students collaborated with a range of NGOs and charities, as well as community members; these were all committed and equal partners in the various endeavours. The range and diversity of the projects that our students were involved in last week was remarkable: building chicken coops, refurbishing computers, certificating adult education, modelling and developing interview techniques, engaging in art and drama workshops with elementary children and refurbishing a tired playroom for young children in hospital. The locations ranged from Alabang to Quezon City, from Tagaytay to La Union in the Ilocos Region, to BSM.

Results from the various projects underscore how the BSM student’s service learning goals are highly achievable and the truly life changing impact this can have on local communities. However it is not only the practical outcomes that we consider valuable, but also the partnerships and sense of community engendered by this BSM Service Learning initiative. The smiles, hugs and handshakes at the farewell moments were powerful; this experience will remain in the minds of many, for a long time.

It was indeed a privilege to see our students reach out to the local communities and work with external providers, seeking to understand local needs and empower local stakeholders to develop their own solutions.

The British School Manila (BSM) is a highly regarded co-educational British international school established in 1976. The School is proud to uphold the high standard of the British education system and we take full advantage of our multi-cultural setting. We are accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and also a member of The Federation of British International Schools in Southeast Asia and East Asia (FOBISSEA) and The Independent Association of Prep School (IAPS).

At present 900+ students aged 3-18 are on BSM’s roll and 35 nationalities are represented. British children make up 33%, Filipino 22%, Canada 9% ,Australians 8% and American 6% of the total population.

DepEd promotes positive discipline in everyday teaching

The Department of Education (DepEd), in cooperation with E-Net Philippines and Save the Children, will launch the Primer on Positive Discipline for Everyday Teaching on Monday, June 6, 2016, 9 am at the DepEd NCR Conference Hall, Department of Education-National Capital Region, Regional Office.

DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro FSC during the launch of the Primer on Positive Discipline for Everyday Teaching.
The Primer was created to help teachers apply a positive approach in classroom management and will be distributed to teachers nationwide. The Primer will also be used as a training tool for positive discipline.
"This Primer will be most valuable to our teachers so that they can cope with the day to day challenges of having to deal with young, active learners using positive reinforcement," Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC said.
Luistro pointed out that the primer is consistent with the DepEd policy on zero tolerance for any act of violence against children in school, including corporal punishment, as detailed in the DepEd Child Protection Policy (DO No. 40, s. 2012). "We recognize that teachers, administrators and staff, as stewards of learning institutions, are responsible for an enabling and supportive environment for effective learning based on the principles of positive discipline," the education chief added.

The Primer also comes with some pointers on ways to enhance teacher's well-being in order to help them cope with stress.

DepEd has earlier issued a Child Protection Policy that prohibits corporal punishment and all forms of abuse and promotes positive and non-violent discipline in schools.

PLDT Smart SME Nation puts the focus back on MSMEs as part of nation-building mission

MSMEs—or micro, small, and medium enterprises—are driving the Philippine economy to an interesting direction: inclusive growth.

As of 2013, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recorded 937,327 businesses falling under the MSME category, which accounts for 99.6 percent of all registered enterprises in the country. The micro segment is the largest segment, with over 800,000 registered entities that provide 2.3 million local jobs and generate 25 percent of the country’s total exports.

These figures highlight a new economic landscape where more and more people—even those with little to no capital or those typically excluded from the job market—generate and gain productive employment. Students, housewives, retirees, and individuals with limited physical abilities can participate in income-generating activities through starting their own micro-enterprises.

PLDT VP and PLDT Smart SME Nation Head Mitch Locsin talks about the key role of MSMEs in nation-building
“PLDT Smart SME Nation believes in empowering individuals to become modern entrepreneurs,” said Mitch Locsin, PLDT VP and PLDT Smart SME Nation Head. “Entrepreneurship is not only about helping one’s self, but also about contributing to families and communities. Collectively, MSMEs contribute to an economically stronger Philippines.”

Leveling the playing field

Despite the increasing number of Filipino entrepreneurs and their growing economic impact, an overwhelming majority is missing out on profit and expansion opportunities.

“Only one percent of over 900,000 MSMEs have online presence,” noted Locsin. “With the rest of the world quickly moving to a more digital-centric business direction, MSMEs—especially the micro-enterprises—need to catch up, fast.”

A group dedicated to amplifying the business potential of MSMEs, PLDT Smart SME Nation offers the right digital tools to future-ready micro-entrepreneurs. Through a reliable landline and high-speed DSL connection, the SMART BizKit, and an online store powered by Tack This!, a micro-enterprise can reach and serve more customers with lower overhead costs.

“The digital arena is where MSMEs can directly compete with large enterprises,” added Locsin. “That’s why we support our entrepreneurs and help them conquer the digital landscape with our products and services.”

Gearing up for a digital future

Last April 22, 2016, PLDT Smart SME Nation gathered over 1,400 modern Pinoy entrepreneurs at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila for a day filled with revolutionary insights and key learnings from the country’s industry stalwarts. Dubbed TechIsland 3.0, the event is the first SME Nation business convention to be open to the general public.

To help MSME owners embrace a digital future and put their learnings into practice, PLDT and students from Pampanga’s St. Mutien College developed websites for each TechIsland 3.0 attendee. The students developed 30 percent of the websites, and will continue to work with PLDT Smart SME Nation for future projects to benefit MSMEs.

SME Nation also rolled out the TechMobile, a caravan of digital tools and solutions specifically designed for MSMEs, in several key provinces, including Negros and Cavite. Through this initiative, PLDT and Smart’s tech expertise can easily reach entrepreneurs wherever they are in the country.
Locsin added, “By empowering MSMEs to participate in the digital disruption happening in business right now, we also empower them to become active players in the journey towards nation-building through inclusive economic growth.

Yael Yuzon, Alex Medina headline Levi’s big sale

Levi’s holds a two-day big sale at the Globe Tower to encourage office workers to be productive by wearing clothes that they are comfortable in.
Making a corporate sale event a fun affair, Levi’s brought in Spongecola vocalist Yael Yuzon and award-winning indie actor Alex Medina for a meet-and-greet during Levi’s two-day big sale at one of the biggest telecommunications offices in the country.

Award-winning actor Alex Medina hangs out at the Levi’s pop-up store at the Globe Tower, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

The two influencers shared their We Are Original stories with Levi’s and gave some fashion talk and advice to Globe employees.

The Levi’s Tailor Shop for the customization of your Levi’s apparel.

“These two understand how to excel in their chosen fields. Today, they shared their stories with Levi’s and gave fashion advices to Globe employees so we all just had fun overall,” said Kaths Laudit, Levi’s Marketing head.

During the sale, Levi’s Philippine is pushing its agenda to encourage office workers to be productive by wearing clothes that they are comfortable in.

Spongecola vocalist Yael Yuzon gave some fashion talk and advice to everyone who shopped at the pop-up shop.
Back in the day, dressing for success meant donning predictable and boring office attire that usually meant blazers-and-slacks ensembles for the ladies and dress-shirt-and-tie combos for the gentlemen.

So, this move from Levi’s is a support to millennials and how they are redefining fashion as they do with everything else in their environment—from trends and styles to their choices of fast-fashion brands.

Brandishing the tools of the digital age and touting innovation, the Gen Y—who work mostly in design studios, BPOs, booming start-ups, or any other technology-driven profession—insist on making fashion work for them and not the other way around.

“Comfort equals productivity,” Laudit affirmed. “This event showed that Levi’s likes to evolve with the times and keep up with innovations while promoting comfort as key. In the past, professionals wore their Levi’s and colorful kicks on their off hours, but they now don their Levi’s in the workplace.”

Indeed, the enthusiastic response to the recent event means office fashion is changing and Levi’s is on top of it.

Recently held at the Globe Tower, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, Levi’s jump-started the event by offering up to 50 percent off on selected Levi’s apparels.

At the pop-up shop, the first 100 buyers were given different prizes such as De Orro tickets, Zouk Out, Trail Mix, tickets to Palace Pool Club’s 1st Year Anniversary with DJ Deorro, denim bags, and other Levi’s merchandise.

Inspired by the success of the event, Levi’s is set to visit more offices and roll out bigger surprises this year.

Joining the SM teams are representatives from LGUs, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, academe, the private sector, among others. It will immediately be followed by a Freedom Parade inside every mall, passing by stores decked with their own Philippine flag displays.

To make the event more relatable to today’s youth, SM will be installing iconic Philippine Independence Day centerpieces that customers can use as background for their “selfies.” A special one-day mallwide sale dubbed #PINOYFUNSALE will also happen on June 10-12, offering up to 70% discount on select items.

SM Supermalls has been engaging customers in Independence Day celebrations for many years, acknowledging its crucial position of being at the center of every community where an SM mall operates. The country’s largest shopping mall operator serves millions of customers daily, giving the company a great opportunity to push this event’s objective forward.

DepEd receives over Php 8.4M worth of donations during Brigada Eskwela Kick-off

Private partners turn over bicycles, boats, solar-powered lamps, school supplies, and ceremonial library keys to Department of Education officials during the Brigada Eskwela kick-off program at Sta. Cruz Pingkian National High School, Nueva Vizcaya.

With the Brigada Eskwela 2016 kick-off and the preparation for the opening on June 13, various partners from the private sector donated boats, bicycles, solar-powered lamps, and school supplies that amounted to at least Php 8.4 million.

San Miguel Foundation, Inc. donated 1,000 bicycles worth Php 3,000,000 for several schools nationwide. 81 bicycles were distributed to students of Sta. Cruz Pingkian National High School, while 150 bicycles were given out to students of Kakiduguen National High School in Nueva Vizcaya.

Meanwhile, a boat was donated by Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation to ferry 24 children to and from school in a remote community in Nueva Vizcaya.

ICAD Foundation donated 1,443 solar lamps while One Meralco Foundation, Inc. donated 10,000 lamps.

The Latter Days Saint Charities likewise donated a total 2,825 solar-powered lamps worth Php 847,500.00.

In addition to these, the National Bookstore Foundation, Inc. donated an additional 5,000 sets of school supplies and also pledged to build libraries in 5 schools in Nueva Vizcaya.

The donations amounted to Php 8,397,500 benefitting thousands of students from various elementary and secondary schools.

Brigada Eskwela kick-off program

The bicycles, boats, solar lamps, and ceremonial library key were turned over to the Department of Education (DepEd) officials at Sta. Cruz Pingkian National High School, Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya, where the Brigada Eskwela 2016 natonal kick-off program was held.

Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide program that aims to bring together teachers, parents, and community members to prepare schools for the start of classes in June.

In his welcoming remarks, DepEd Nueva Vizcaya Schools Division Superintendent Samuel Soliven expressed gratitude to all the donors “who have come here to share their resources to the last, the least, and the lost.”

DepEd Region II Regional Director Estela Carino said she is deeply thankful for giving her office the chance to hold the Brigada Eskwela kick-off program before DepEd Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC steps down as education chief.

“We have decided to hold Brigada Eskwela here in Nueva Vizcaya. Every year, we bring the national kick-off ceremonies to different regions to convey the message that Brigada Eskwela is for all,” Undersecretary for Partnerships and External Linkages Mario Deriquito said.

Deriquito added that, “We have been doing this for 14 years since 2003. Let us make sure that everything in our schools gets fixed... let us emphasize and give priority to safety. Let us identify the underserved schools and let us help them.”
“Brigada Eskwela is not just for schools but for the whole community,” Luistro said.
‘Kayang kaya pa’
In a separate press conference, Luistro said that DepEd wanted to hold the Brigada Eskwela kick-off program in an indigenous community.

Sta. Cruz Pingkian National High School caters to learners from indigenous communities.

“K to 12 is about the last mile also. It’s also about non-formal education. It’s also about the IP (indigenous peoples) communities. It’s also about 6th class municipalities,” Luistro said.

“If you look at the map of where we are putting up the senior high schools, we wanted to make sure that all the way to the 6th class municipalities, there are senior high schools. The special groups that we have included in the last mile efforts—street children, those with disabilities, IP groups—they are all part of this,” he added.

“Looking at the landscape, Kayapa has the best population of all of those last milers; besides, Kayapa can also be read as ‘Kaya pa.’ Last push, kayang kaya pa,” Luistro noted.
