Translating Greatness of Spirit into Action: Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation

Enjoying the wonderful world of RMAF! Translating Greatness of Spirit into Action!

I’m so fortunate and felt so blessed to meet the two great recipients of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation.
Thankful that I was invited by the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation‘s social media team, with a small group of writers and online influencers last Saturday, June 1, held at the Asian Library of the Ramon Magsaysay Center, Roxas Blvd.

As we gladly interacted with Filipino nun and surgeon Eva Fidela Maamo, 1997 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for Community Leadership, and Sri Lankan pscyhologist Ananda Galappati, 2008 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for Emergent Leadership. They shared with us “Translating Greatness of Spirit into Action.”

Greatness of Spirit ‘is for everyone.’

These awardees shared their stories of their work in their respective community, their passion, their selfless services to people of all walks of life. As admirable they are, we saw how they exemplify Greatness of Spirit, the brand of selfless service and leadership that the late President Ramon Magsaysay was known for.

With us during that afternoon, Sr. Eva, shared to us that leadership can be learned through experience, by being sure of one’s identity and values, by looking at work with a sense of mission, and by being willing to work with others. (As I call her now, my special Angel Sis. Eva.)
She’s currently busy maintaining no-fee health clinics in Manila informal settlement areas, providing meals to malnourished children, managing the Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Parañaque City, and going on medical missions to indigenous people.
Thru the Skype video interaction with Galappatti , he said that “working on an online portal to connect people to psychosocial and mental services” at www.mhpss.net, where psychologists from all over the world can connect with each other and find resources that will help them serve others better.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation was created in 1957, the year the Philippines lost in a plane crash a President who was well-loved for his simplicity and humility, his passion for justice, particularly for the poor, and his advancement of human dignity.

Among the many friends and admirers of the late President around the world were the Rockefeller brothers. With the concurrence of the Philippine government, the trustees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund(RBF) established the Award to honor his memory and perpetuate his example of integrity in public service and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society.
The foundation has since implemented the Magsaysay Award program, pursuing the mission of "honoring greatness of spirit in selfless service to the people of Asia".
GOS Ambassadors with Sr. Eva Fidela Maamo, RM Awardee for Community Leadership, 1997
Let us be inspired by the Greatness of Spirit of the Ramon Magsaysay awardees. Let's make a commitment to a lifetime as we realize that we should be positive and always have goodness approach to all life situations. And let's be a positive influence to those around us, and help improve lives.

Divine Diva ZsaZsa Padilla's new album “PALAGI” via PolyEast Records

ZsaZsa Padilla celebrates her 30th anniversary in entertainment industry by releasing her latest album titled "Palagi" with eight original songs and two song revivals.
The album as it interprets, Noon, Bukas, Kailanman… Palagi is dedicating to her three daughters and her love one, the late King of Comedy Dolphy.

"Yung album parang journey of love. I dedicate this to my kids and Dolphy," ZsaZsa shared this during in a lunch sit down mini-presscon for her new album held last June 4 at Cerchio Grill Restaurant in Tomas Morato, Quezon City.
“For thirty years (in the entertainment industry), this is very special because I haven’t recorded for four years. Tapos ang drama ko palagi akong may sakit, sabi ko, if this is my last album do the best that you can, so that’s how I treated this one, sabi ko, ‘I’m so glad na I’m getting my health back."

After many years I watch and admire her, ZsaZsa is certainly looking her most beautiful these days. She told us that she is now 49 years old. And even her hair has return to its natural dark brown color.

“I found out that I am allergic to hair dye. I was feeling so bad after my surgery and wondering what I had eaten, when the cause was the dye. I only use the organic now,"she said.

ZsaZsa is just focused on her daughters Karylle, Nicole and Zia, as well as her career. "I like this state in my life because, for the first time in my life, I'm by myself, I'm independent and I concentrate on my children and my work. 'Yun lang ang focus ko sa ngayon and I like it."

“I still talk to him (Dolphy) every day during my morning coffee. He is everywhere in the house. They are fixing my car so I have been using his van. Last night, on the way home I played his song What A Wonderful World and I missed him so much,” she said.

"All Cried Out", her own composition for her daughter Zia Quizon after a painful break-up three years ago. It is about a broken heart but I listen to the lyrics and I think, this can also be about Dolphy. “Then you cry the hurt inside/ let the tears fall down/ you’re on your way/ you’ll heal your heart/ for now you know the time has come/ you can move on…Have you ever felt all cried out. I did my best but now I’m all cried out.”

"Without You", she says she dedicates to the late King of Comedy Dolphy. “I asked to do Without You in this album for him.” This is an old hit by Joey Albert that was composed by Louie Ocampo.

Here's also in her liner notes. “My love for you grows with every song I sing. Heaven knows how much I miss you. You are always in my heart and will be with me no matter where life’s journey takes me. Noon, Ngayon, Bukas, Kailanman…Palagi. Palaging Ikaw.”

ZsaZsa Padilla is timeless. PolyEast Records proudly announces the Divine Diva’s significant return in the studio with a brand new album titled “Palagi” which will remind us once again of the gift of her voice spanning three decades of OPM power ballads. This is following her record-breaking success of her first project under PolyEast in 2009’s “Unchanging Love.”

“Palagi” is ZsaZsa’s brand new studio album in over four years, features incredible songs written and produced by an array of talented musicians including Louie Ocampo, Rey Valera, Francis Salazar, Diana Dayao-Martin, Keith Martin and PolyEast Records A&R Manager Chito Ilagan.

ZsaZsa debuted her singing career in 1983 and have sustained such a long string of hits that are landmarks in many of our lives like Hiram, Mambobola and Ikaw Lamang to name a few. With a voice that stands like monuments upon the landscape of Pinoy music for the past three decades, ZsaZsa remains on top.

CD tracks:

Dito Lang
Sa Piling Mo
Di Ka Na Akin
Palagi
Without You

DOTC set to postqualify bids for 2 key projects for the Metro Rail Transit (MRT)

Maintenance provider and magnetic ticket supply contracts at stake

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is about to conduct bid evaluation and post-qualification exercises for two key projects for the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 System, namely: the P712-Million MRT-3 System Temporary Maintenance Provider Project and the P 25-million Supply & Delivery of MRT-3 Magnetic Ticket Project.

According to their report, after opening the eligibility documents of three groups which vied for the one-year Maintenance project on June 3, 2013, the DOTC’s Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) found only one proponent, Autre Porte Technique (or “APT”) Global, Inc., to have qualified for the next stages of the bidding process.

DOTC spokesperson Migs Sagcal said that APT Global submitted a bid in the amount of around P 685 Million. Financial proposals of the two other interested groups were no longer opened after they were found to be ineligible.

The disqualified groups were Asiaphil Manufacturing Industries, Inc. in Joint Venture with Korea Railroad, which did not comply with sealing and marking requirements of Republic Act No. 9184 (the Procurement Law); and Commbuilders & Technology Philippines Corporation, which failed to submit a certificate of satisfactory performance.

“Unfortunately, it once more came down to two groups’ failure to comply with the bid requirements. Time and again, we have said that the DOTC-BAC can do nothing but to follow the Procurement Law, which prohibits it from exercising discretion” Sagcal added.

As for the magnetic ticket supply project, only the current MRT-3 contractor submitted a proposal during the bid opening conducted on May 30, 2013. The Transport agency disclosed that Banner Plasticard, Inc. offered to supply and deliver 4,252,000 magnetic tickets to the DOTC-MRT3 in the amount of P 25 million.

The financial proposals of the eligible bidders for both projects will now undergo detailed evaluation, after which their bids will be subjected to postqualification exercises.

The relatively short duration of these projects—one year for the Maintenance contract and thirty (30) days for the Ticket Supply contract—is partly due to the eventual buyout of the owner of the MRT-3 facilities pursuant to Executive Order No. 126 issued by President Benigno S. Aquino III last March, as well as the transition to an Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS), now being bid out by the DOTC as a Public-Private Partnership Project, by the first quarter of 2015.
