Grammy-nominated producer Luigie “Lugo” Gonzales, Paulino Lorenzo, and Idrise Ward-El produced KZ’s first single under Tarsier Records, which is slated for international release as ABS-CBN continues to showcase Filipino talents on the world stage.

“It's the realization of a vision. Parang after my ‘X Factor’ 2012 stint, the dream was always to go international, to represent the country on the world stage. And now I get to release this,” KZ shared.

Recounting the moments before she finally recorded the song, she said, “I just wanted to be ready, na alam nila na ‘She did the work.’ Sobra akong kinakabahan kasi it's a new environment, new people, i-add mo pa na I was working with a Grammy-nominated artist so I didn't wanna disappoint him.”

Gigi’s “Sakalam” turns Pinoy slang to a piercing break-up anthem

ABS-CBN’s newest pop rock diva launches her debut single

Breakthrough star Gigi de Lana gives an excruciating new meaning to the popular Pinoy slang “Sakalam,” which serves as the title of her debut single released under Star Music.

“Sakalam” is a power rock ballad that lyrically tackles a person’s struggle to let go of a broken relationship despite the detachment of her partner. The term is an inverse of the Tagalog word “malakas,” adding more emphasis to the emotional grief caused by the separation as depicted in the song.

“Habang kinakanta ko 'yung ‘Sakalam,’ nasasaktan ako. Nilalagay ko 'yung sarili ko sa song kasi gusto kong kantahin na punong-puno ng soul. Sobrang nakaka-relate kasi sa mga pinagdaanan ko rin sa buhay,” shared Gigi.

She also expressed an encouraging message to listeners who are experiencing heartbreak. She said, “Even though ‘sakalam’ talaga siya, pansamantala lang ‘yang nararamdaman mo. Itong song na ito, hindi lang tungkol sa heartbreak. May binibigay din itong positive vibes.”

Aside from being the first original song of the newest pop-rock diva, “Sakalam” also serves as the first single off her debut full-length album set to drop in 2022. As of writing, the song is currently listed at the top spot of Spotify Philippines' Fresh Finds playlist.

The Star Magic artist and RISE Artists Studio talent performed and recorded “Sakalam” with The Gigi Vibes band members Jon Cruz, Jake Manalo, LA Arquero, and Romeo Marquez. The track was written and composed by Romeo with Erwin Lacsa, with Jon serving as its arranger, and ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo as its producer.

Last August, Gigi announced many of her exciting projects lined up for the remaining months of 2021, led by her participation in the Filipino music festival “1MX Dubai” and the staging of her very own “YouTube Music Night” digital concert both in December.

Feel the agony of intense heartbreak and stream Gigi’s debut single “Sakalam,” out now on various digital music platforms, and watch its music video on ABS-CBN Star Music’s YouTube channel

Do you want to be an Artist? Join the annual year-end ABS-CBN Star Magic Workshops

Do you want to be part of Star Magic’s Artist Registry talent pool and get a chance to act in ABS-CBN’s teleseryes?

The annual year-end Star Magic Workshops are about to kick off! Have the chance to be part of our Artist Registry and act in ABS-CBN shows and digital productions.

Hosted by Lou Yanong, together with Kiara Takahashi, Andi Abaya, Kobie Brown, and Christian Bables, and Head of Star Magic Artist Training and Workshops Direk Rahyan Carlos, know more about how you can take part of this awesome opportunity anywhere you are in the world.

After the success of the recent online launch of Star Magic Workshops, they will re-open the Artist Registry of Star Magic, to welcome more talents from our public workshops. Now, students will have more access to auditions and will have a chance to be a talent for the network’s teleseryes!

When the pandemic shut down all countries, their borders and economies last year, Rahyan Carlos, head of the Star Magic Artist Training and Workshops did not waste time in studying and finding ways to transpose all workshops and training for the actors. “Last April 2020 after a month-long of intensive studying, auditing classes abroad and transposing modules online with my teachers, we resumed the training for acting, dance, voice and conversational tagalog via zoom. And it worked!” said Direk Rahyan.

Even if after the network’s shutdown happened last year, this did not dampen the spirit of Direk Rahyan to stop training actors. In fact, he and his teachers held all workshops online via zoom. In June 2020, Star Magic had a soft launch of all workshops online. “We had 250 students all over the world during the pandemic from 22 participating countries such as England, London, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Florence Italy, Virginia, New York, L.A., Guam, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, France, New Jersey, Dubai, Qatar and Canada. We had live and recorded online recitals and culminating activities of all our workshops and people were so entertained and cheered for their loved ones who participated in the online training,” said Direk Rahyan.

Last October 2020, Star Magic Workshops also launched its first-ever online workshop for participants in Canada in partnership with A.M.P. (Artist Movement Production), a group of Filipinos who provide education and training services in various aspects of the performing arts. The workshop was done in Canada EST time and the vernacular used was English since some of the Filipino participants were born and raised in Canada. Canada has the largest Filipino ethnic community and market for the performing arts. 40 participants graduated from the soft launch of the intensive workshop last year and it was a success!

This year-end, in partnership with Annabelle Regalado of E-Talent Musikademy, we will open our workshops in Australia. We will also do the first hybrid workshops in Canada under A.M.P. where 80 percent of training will be online and 20 percent will be face-to-face workshops as we will bring the rehearsal and recital physically to Toronto, Canada.

Direk Rahyan is the only certified Chubbuck Technique acting teacher behind the training of some of the most sought-after and award-winning actors of today such as Christian Bables, Coco Martin, Julia Barretto, Jake Cuenca, Liza Diño-Seguerra, Anna Luna, EJ Falcon, Alora Sasam, Ynna Asistio, Roco Nacino, Sandino Martin, Arjo Atayde, Paulo Avelino, Joshua Garcia, and Charlie Dizon, the recent Best Actress of MMFF 2020 for Fan Girl, among others.

More than the new elements in the Star Magic Summer 2021 Workshops, the same exclusive, focused and international-grade lessons through the help of the award-winning and seasoned teachers remain at its core.

Compared to other training, Star Magic Workshops are not only comprehensive --they are also exclusive to only a limited number of participants. Since all training will be done via Zoom App, the teachers will be able to focus on each student’s progress.

The adult acting classes are still handled by Carla Martinez and Rubi Rubi along with Lynnette Conception and Air Paz Pablico, while the kids’ acting classes are still handled by Edna Mae Landicho and HB Benitez. The dance classes are divided into three different genres namely jazz funk, hiphop and urban led by Nesh Janiola III of Axis, Brion Lim and Myke Monses of Manouvres Ignite and Geejay Romano, respectively. Meanwhile, the voice classes are still going to be led by Philippine Madrigal Singer alumni, Luningning San Jose, Julie Anne Reyes and Roland Roldan.

Those who aspire to be trained by professional and practicing teachers in acting, dance, voice and language are all welcome to join the workshops. Enrollment is ongoing, and all classes will start in November 2021. This will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Rico Blanco reimagines iconic PBB theme song now called "Pinoy Tayo"

"Pinoy Tayo" is also the lead single in the upcoming 20th anniversary album of Jonathan Manalo.

Song to be part of Jonathan Manalo’s 20th-anniversary album OPM icon Rico Blanco delivers a unifying, Filipino folk music spin to the well-loved “Pinoy Big Brother” theme song meaningfully renamed “Pinoy Tayo,” 16 years after the song was first heard and eventually became an anthem of empowerment for many Filipinos.

Rico’s special anniversary version of the Orange and Lemons original “Pinoy Ako” will serve as the official theme song of the upcoming "Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Kumunity Season 10."

“It’s such an honor to do the song. Just what it stands for. The original version is so well-loved,” he said. “This is a chance to rediscover it.”

Now with vibrant elements of Filipino ethnic sound, “Pinoy Tayo” is a composition of ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo, Clem Castro, and Rico, who also produced the remake while Jonathan served as the surpervising producer.

Rico detailed his inspiration in making the new version. “Tinanong ko ang sarili ko ‘ano ba 'yung ako’ and I put in all the small elements that my songs had throughout the years,” he shared.

“Excited ako about that happiness na mabibigay ng kanta. It’s a very bright, upbeat song, and I kept that from the original version,” he added.

Aside from being this year’s PBB theme song, “Pinoy Tayo” will also serve as the lead single in the expansive 25-track album that will celebrate the music of Jonathan in the last 20 years.

The multi-awarded songwriter and producer remains in awe of how the song has become a statement on Pinoy pride and how it continues to uplift the spirits of generations of Pinoy audiences.

“I’m grateful to hear people saying that this song has become part of the soundtrack of their lives,” Jonathan shared. “As I embark on my 20th anniversary in the music industry this year, an icon, a legend who I look up to helped me kickstart the celebration by re-imagining this song with his genius.”

Jonathan also spoke about what the song “Pinoy Tayo” means to him. “Ito yung gusto naming ibigay sa audience na mapagaan man lang ang pinagdadaaanan nating lahat at magbigay ng hope at inspirasyon individually and as a nation. And also to remind us na maraming reasons pa rin to celebrate ang ating pagiging Pilipino,” he said.

"Pinoy Big Brother" returns this pandemic for its 10th season

Big Brother is back as he opens his famous yellow house again in the middle of the pandemic to spread happiness, inspiration, and bring together Filipino communities in “Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10.”

This was the big announcement that Vice Ganda and former housemates Ryan Bang, and Teen Big Winner Kim Chiu revealed on “It’s Showtime” on August 27 as they introduced the new season, which will have adult, celebrity, and teen editions.

Ryan was referring to the “PBB” house covered in blue construction cover with the message, “a new community will rise soon.” The photo of the house-made rounds on social media, confusing netizens on the fate of “PBB” and if it meant Big Brother’s farewell.

Gigi De Lana to release debut album, hold digital concert, and join 1MX live in Dubai

ABS-CBN Music, ABS-CBN Events launch 'The Rising Viral Star'

Viral Kapamilya singer Gigi de Lana fulfills two of her biggest dreams with the upcoming release of her debut album produced by ABS-CBN Music and the staging of her own digital concert to be produced by ABS-CBN Events.

The RISE Artists Studio talent—whose spontaneous cover of “Bakit Nga Ba Mahal Kita” that had several key alterations recently blew up on social media—will finally get to showcase more of her vocal prowess through a full-length album.

“Nag-pursige kami ng The Gigi Vibes band na gumawa ng sariling songs. Dun kami nag-grow at dun kami nag-start, so meron po kaming ilalabas na album,” Gigi shared, adding that she will drop her first single on September 24.

She is also set to headline her first “YouTube Music Night” concert in December that promises to be full of surprises.

“We are preparing for something big and ito inaareglo na ng banda kung ano ba 'yung gagawin sa mga kanta, gagawa kami ng medley, maraming pakulo. May guests din pero secret pa,” Gigi teased.

She will also be part of the Filipino music festival “1MX Dubai” that will be held live on December 3.

Dubbed as ‘The Rising Viral Star,’ Gigi first entered the limelight when she competed in the inaugural season of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” in “It’s Showtime,” where she became one of the grand finalists.

During the onset of the pandemic, Gigi launched the online live gig “GG Vibes,” where she performs covers with The Gigi Vibes band and even takes song requests from viewers. “GG Vibes” regularly records netizens’ praises for Gigi’s amazing voice and amasses thousands of live viewers on Facebook and YouTube.

Aside from singing, Gigi has also ventured into acting, having played a supporting role in Star Cinema’s “Four Sisters Before the Wedding” in 2020. This year, she officially became a Star Magic artist as she signed with ABS-CBN’s premier talent management arm during ‘Black Pen Day.’

Before Gigi, fellow ABS-CBN singers Jona, and Juris together with Jed Madela, staged two separate free virtual concerts for “YouTube Music Night” last February.

See Gigi shine and watch out for her debut album and “YouTube Music Night” concert soon!

"Dayaw," a documentary series feature different facets of our indigenous culture.

With Deputy Speaker Congresswoman Loren Legarda, rhe 1st virtual Dayaw press conference was held featuring our indigenous culture and heritage

The mission to promote Filipino indigenous culture and heritage goes on for the award-winning documentary series “Dayaw” with the launch of its eleventh season on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, this August.

A production of ANC and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), “Dayaw” has been documenting the lifeways, traditions, practices, and culture of the different Indigenous Peoples groups since 2015.

Still leading the way for “Dayaw” on its eleventh season is its host, three-term senator, and now House deputy speaker and Antique congresswoman, Loren Legarda, who conceptualized the program.

“It has always been Dayaw's mission to document as many aspects of Filipino culture and knowledge systems as possible. We can only save these from extinction by continuing to instill their importance in the younger generation, and let them practice and learn these treasures. With the theme "Kakaibang Sigla,” Dayaw Season 11 allows us to look at the different ways in which our energy, competitiveness and sportsmanship are mainstreamed in the traditional societies and knowledge systems,” Loren said.

After featuring traditional Filipino children’s games such as patintero, sipa, and luksong tinik in the first episode, followed by a two-part special on the Punnuk, a show of physical strength that ends the Ifugao’s harvest season, “Dayaw” will then focus on Filipino martial arts such as arnis, silat, and eskrima in its next two episodes, starting on Thursday (August 26), 6pm on ANC and the ANC Facebook.

The season will wrap up on September 3 with “Sayawang Pinoy,” an episode highlighting how grace and fluidity of movements of Filipinos express our energy, discipline and joy as a people.

Despite the pandemic, “Dayaw” has been able to launch new seasons, with Season 12 already in the works. Titled "KAKA-IBANG SIGLA: Our Vital Energy Part 2," it will explore love, courtship, marriage, and the cycles of life featuring the Gaddang, Tboli, and Sama Dilaut.

“We are fortunate to have shot a treasure trove of material before the pandemic began. This has enabled us to go on with our mission of telling the stories of our indigenous peoples so that future generations may still be able to appreciate and continue their legacy,” said ANC chief operating officer Nadia Trinidad.

NCCA chair Arsenio "Nick" Lizaso expressed his gratitude to former Senator Legarda and ANC for their part in bringing our indigenous people's knowledge and heritage closer to Filipino and even foreign viewers.

“I would like to commend Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda for her vision and commitment to preserve, promote and enrich our culture and heritage, and to ANC for translating that vision into an exemplary body of work,” he said.

“Dayaw” Season 11 airs every Thursday at 6 pm on ANC on cable and the ANC Facebook page.
