Learn How to Capture Photos Like a Pro During Your Holiday Travels with the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G

Going on a trip for the holiday season is an immersive visual experience — and not just while you’re there. People today often use images posted on social media sites like Instagram and Pinterest as inspiration for vacation destinations. That's why it's no surprise that the travel photos influencers and content creators post online play a significant role in enticing many people to visit specific destinations.

Professional photographers and travel enthusiasts Mark Nicdao and Magic Liwanag share their best tips for capturing amazing shots when traveling in another country

The latest release of the OPPO Reno10 5G Series comes the flagship-level phone– the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G. It highlights its next-level imaging capabilities that allow users to shoot photos with #ThePortraitExpert standard.

Renowned photographers Mark Nicdao, who is widely hailed for his distinctive and inventive creative flair for his photography, and Magic Liwanag, one of the country’s top go-to fashion and A-list events photographer, attest to its camera system’s reliability in photography and share tips on maximizing your OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G camera. They’re both known to be part of the Reno League for years now so trust that they know the ins and outs of Pro Portrait photography.

Capture Flawless Travel Memories by Avoiding These Common Photo Mistakes

Ruined photos are a traveler's nightmare, and one commonly overlooked mistake they tend to make, professional photographer Magic Liwanag also noted, is failing to check their camera lenses for dirt before clicking the shutter. He says, “Sometimes we get too excited to take photos and videos that we forget our fingers do smudges to the camera lens. Good to know that The Reno10 Pro+ has a notification to remind us to clean our camera lens.”

Another valuable tip for travelers is to activate the photo grid. According to Magic, “I really think it helps to see your photos or videos captured and leveled already. Eliminating the time to crop and edit for straight horizons.” The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G makes it easy to enable this feature within its camera settings.

Maximize Lighting Performance with the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G
When traveling, many don’t realize the importance of lighting and how it affects the quality of our vacation photos. Magic lends his trick when it comes to dealing with varying lighting, “It helps when you know how to properly expose your subject. So, don’t forget to click on your subject and check the exposure slider (the one with the sun icon right next to your selected focus point); that’s the best way to get proper photos/videos exposed. You can also turn on HDR in the camera settings to aid with getting equally exposed scenes.”

Mark Nicdao, a seasoned photographer and enthusiastic traveler, shares insights on using lighting in travel photography. He says, “I long press the screen then pick where it’s going to be focused, then that’s when I adjust the brightness if it needs adjusting,” He even shared his favorite OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G feature for this situation, “the 64MP Telephoto Portrait Camera with OIS and 112° Ultra-Wide-Angle Camera always is my go-to when I’m traveling. Since the resolution is impressive all, I have to think is how and what I want to show in this photo”

Shoot with Confidence and Imaginative Perspective

Capturing the finest travel photos requires more than just a top-tier camera; it demands confidence and a unique perspective. While we often strive for perfection in every travel shot, remember that sometimes, you just need to seize the moment. Mark notes, “…sometimes it’s also great to give yourself an assignment just to keep your creativity being challenged and being sharpened.”

Capture the most mouthwatering food photos and entertaining scenes with ease.

“If you’re not sure, commit to a perspective. I normally always shoot horizontally and make sure I shoot at 4K in videos and use High Res in photo mode. I also make sure I have enough space to crop in vertically.” Magic shares about choosing the orientation for travel photos using his OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G. “Either way, just do both. You’re on vacation, so no pressure.” We couldn’t agree more.

The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ takes vibrant and clear images any time of the day and in any kind of lighting.

Bring #ThePortraitExpert Anywhere and Create Beautiful Memories on the Go

The next-level imaging capabilities of the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G make the best travel companion for immortalizing new memories as you go. “With the telephoto capabilities of the Reno10 Pro+, get more out of the experience by using the telephoto lens. Getting more reach and new perspectives.” Magic agrees.

Mark gushes over his favorite travel photos taken using his OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G. He took this amazing photo while working on his painting in Venice.

“I saw this clock on the shelves and I was thinking of a self-portrait with the clock. It also served as an everyday reminder that the clock is ticking, and every second is crucial for my word. Meaning I really need the focus to finish everything that I signed on. I want to test the portal expertise of OPPO on this. And I wasn’t disappointed.” he recalls.

Another pro-level image result was taken while he was strolling in Lugano, “I saw how it just breaks the whole natural beauty of the place, this Liquid Metal sculpture absorbed the whole view in a very small scale through its reflection and at the same time it looked so surreal almost like a small tornado with its ripples, mirroring the lake on its backdrop.” he recollects. That proves professional-level photography is possible with the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G.

Globe’s next-gen leaders delve into AI and humanity at International Design Conference

Globe’s next generation leaders shared invaluable insights on the blend of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the human experience at the 7th International Design Conference, an event that marked the 50th anniversary of the Design Center of the Philippines.

Returning with more disruptive design concepts and an immersive environment that encouraged attendees to rethink limits, the two-day conference, held in cooperation with Globe, unveiled the evolving landscape and transformative potential of design.

Design luminaries and game-changers from the design sector and the Philippine creative economy collaborated to captivate audiences with immersive keynote presentations, provocative fireside chats, inspiring case studies, future-focused visioning, and an industry meet-up.

Globe’s Wil Sarmiento, Director and Head of Customer Lifecycle, and Paolo Toledo, Director and Head of Creatives, stood out with their forward-thinking perspectives. They joined world-renowned personalities such as award-winning design critic and author Alice Rawsthorn, program director of the Danish Design Centre Christina Melander; Sarah ichioka, founding director of Desire Lines; Dr. Anna Whicher, Policy Consultant of the “Making Design Count: The Value and Impact of Design on the Philippine Economy”; and Professor Daniela Bohlinger, Sustainability Design Pioneer.

Sarmiento, delivered a keynote that delved into the future skills in the age of human-machine collaboration, underscoring the potential of a symbiotic relationship that harnesses the strengths of both.

“Remember the value that you bring to the table: creativity, empathy, and the ability to change. AI will open doors that only humanity will be able to walk through,” he pointed out.

In a thought-provoking panel discussion led by Beth MacDonald, Chief People Officer of Biocellion SPC, Toledo, highlighted the intrinsic value of human intuition and design in an AI-driven world.

“Being human is the greatest design of all. While technology provides efficient solutions, it simply answers “what’s right” or “what’s needed”. BUT it's us humans who trigger innovation and purpose. We hold the power to ask “what's next?” and more importantly, “what for?” he said.

The International Design Conference, with its rich legacy of championing design innovation, is a thought leadership platform that celebrates the intersection of design, business, technology, and policy while thriving at the edge of disciplines to remain provocative and to use design and creativity to ask difficult questions and to take the audience to new territories.

Globe's design leaders not only contributed to this dialogue but also illuminated the path forward, emphasizing a future where technology and human ingenuity seamlessly converge.

UST tops off Henry Sy, Sr. Hall at Manila campus

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) held the topping off ceremony of the Henry Sy, Sr. Hall last October 7, 2023. The ceremony is a builder’s tradition that highlights the placement of the final beam on top of the structure.

The seven-storey building is a tribute of the Sy family, the SM Group, and UST to the SM founder for his life-long education advocacy. It is equally a manifestation of the ever-growing desire of the UST Research and Endowment Foundation, Inc., Anargyroi: FMS Foundation, Inc. (AFI) and the 152-year old UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (FMS) to further level up in the field of medicine.

The Henry Sy, Sr. Hall will serve as a hub for simulation in medical education, interactive student centered-learning, collaborative multidisciplinary research, and interprofessional education. It will house the Sts. Cosmas and Damian Simulation and Research Center.

“The Henry Sy, Sr. Hall will be a state-of-the-art structure designed to meet the challenges and expectations of a digitally-inclined medical education landscape. It will house technologically advanced facilities and equipment, which will complement the existing teaching, learning, and research practices of the University. It is yet another milestone, securing the UST FMS a relevant spot, a significant spot in Catholic medical education in the country, the region, and the world.” FMS Dean Dr. Ma. Lourdes Maglinao said about the Henry Sy. Sr. Hall.

“Medical students can access a broad range of digital tools and resources to enhance their learning and education as we were compelled to shift to e-learning and online course platforms,” UST Rector, Very Rev. Fr. Richard G. Ang, O.P., said.

“Nowadays, keeping up with the advances in medical education is paramount to ensure that our students are competent, agile, and well-prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of the ever-changing educational landscape of modern medicine, and this building, this edifice, will give us state-of-the-art equipment, which will give our medical students a cutting-edge knowledge on how to use robotics as well as other equipment,” Fr. Ang added.

Designed by C.A. Ventura & Partners, the Henry Sy, Sr. Hall is on track to be completed by June 2024.

I Want To Share Foundation’s First Charity Gala a Roaring Success

What happens when the country’s finest join forces together for a worthy cause?  IIt is not everyday that a virtuous and exceptional event that redefines fashion, resilience, and philanthropy happens.  In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the I Want to Share Foundation (IWTS) recently held its First Charity Gala at Shangri-La the Fort where the country’s showbiz, media and affluent crowd banded and bonded together for noble reasons.

What made the occasion memorable in a distinctive way was the resilience and beauty displayed by the young cancer patients as they graced the runway in couture masterpieces crafted by renowned designers in the industry. The night was truly a heartfelt celebration of their unwavering strength and an opportunity to shine the spotlight on their incredible battle to survivorship.

IWTS Founder and Chairman Sheila Francisco

“My own journey as a cancer survivor has been a significant catalyst in my devotion to this cause. God’s healing grace gave me another lease on life, and I honor that everyday by helping children at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) to have hope for a brighter future,”says Sheila Romero, Founder and Chairman of I Want To Share Foundation, during the charity ball.

Designers - Rajo Laurel. Martin Bautista, Andrea Tetangco. Mark Bumgarner, Avel Bacudio

Hailed as masters in their craft, fashion designers Mark Bumgarner, Rajo Laurel, Andrea Tetangco, Martin Bautista and Avel Bacudio, along with prominent people from a variety of professional fields including business and showbusiness proved that that fashion can be a force for good and has potential to serve a higher purpose. The undertaking was indeed a living testament to their industry’s boundless compassion to reach out to the ones who need it most.

“How does it feel to be part of the I Want Foundation Gala? It feels wonderful. It feels good, because we continue a cycle of bringing goodness and hope to all these unfortunate children,” Rajo beams with honor.

“It’s an honor to be part of this—to be able to showcase my talent, and share my creations to these people,” Andrea Tetangco adds with pride.

For young cancer warriors, the night was an attestation to their resounding statement of empowerment, a chance to regain their sense of control over their appearance, which may have been compromised along their journey to survival. It was a resonant reminder that they can be whoever they want to be, outside the realm of their medical condition.

The guests greeted the children with a resounding warm applause the moment they took the stage and rolled the red carpet woven with stories of hope and resilience.   The unwavering bravery and relentless battles they conquered on the way to victory was not only inspiring, but it truly deserved all the accolades from everyone.

This extraordinary event combined art and the spirit of sharing and giving. An incredible array of artwork and jewelry pieces during the live auction featured Master Sculptor Daniel Dela Cruz, Contemporary Artist Andres Barrioquinto, and Dino Gabito.

IWTS Ladies - Cory Untalan, Samantha Bermudez, Suzette Ayson, Monika Ravanera, Sheila Romero, Monica Dela Cruz, Talia Asuncion, Dey Dimaandal, Trisha Calma, Leah Sotto, Kathy Ventura, Pinky Antonio

Modern angels worked hand in hand to meet the target proceeds of P12M during the prestigious affair.  In what could be called a grand way to celebrate the weekend, the night exceeded everyone’s expectations as a staggering amount of P19M was raised for the beneficiaries.

A notable gala, the IWTS has endeavored to transform and uplift lives by raising funds for the establishment of the Childhood Cancer Helpline, a newly launched initiative that aims to increase the country’s cancer survival rate from 30% to at least 60% so young individuals will find the strength and resources to thrive beyond their diagnosis.

Of the 5,300 Filipino children who develop cancer yearly, many are undiagnosed, consult late, refuse or abandon treatment, resulting in an estimated survival rate of only 30% nationwide.  “This charitable gala also seeks to secure funding for the construction of two specialized rooms at the Bone Marrow Transplant Center in PGH, marking a pioneering achievement in the country where the chances of healing will be increased. In addition, the IWTS will also support the funding for the Pediatrics Hematology Oncology of PGH,” Romero shared proudly during the event.

The Charity Gala is proud to partner with equally passionate brand sponsors. The success of the event was made possible by the following sponsors  -- Maserati, Rulls, SM Supermalls, Vivo, Arthaland, The Lind Boracay, Denim Hub, Silicon Valley, Moss Interior Event & Design; as well as its media sponsors including Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, Lifestyle Asia, and Stargate People Asia. Their participation signified a commitment to make a difference, demonstrating how their abundant resources and sphere of influence can be channeled into life-changing endeavors.

From its humble beginnings as a small fundraiser, the I Want To Share Foundation has steadily grown into a transformative institution, creating a life-changing impact for thousands of Filipino children.

Since 2015, their mission has been dedicated to turning extraordinary dreams into reality as they organized “SHINE! Dreams Do Come True” program, fulfilling the young warriors’ desire to experience a prom alongside sought-after actors and actresses, becoming stars in their own right. Even in the midst of the pandemic, they were able to launch the “I Want to Share my Hair” campaign, opening doors for children to reclaim a part of themselves, their crown of hair.

Annually, an average of 600 kids seek assistance for chemotherapy at PGH. Last December 2022, around 150 graduated from chemo. They fought hard, believed, and beat cancer and truly deserved a fitting tribute. The milestone was celebrated by providing the warriors an avenue to graduate like normal students.

"IWTS will continue in its mission to make a difference and contribute to society as we lead a purpose-driven life. The gala is a testament to what we can achieve when we unite to pursue a shared objective,” Romero shared.  “Together, we can inspire others, reshape lives and illuminate the path for those who need it most.” Romero emphasizes.

Gateway Gallery Celebrates Non-Conventional Art with Mangha-Likha

Gateway Gallery opened its in-house exhibition, Mangha-Likha: Defying Art Conventions, on August 16, 2023. Mangha-Likha takes a deeper look into the practice of using unconventional mediums and non-traditional techniques of art-making in the Philippines as a way to highlight, celebrate, and engage in further discussions.

Mangha-Likha is a celebration of the artistry of eight Filipino artists who defy the idea of art as academic, formal, traditional, Western, and mainstream. The group exhibition is funded through a grant by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the National Committee on Art Galleries. Conceptualized by Gateway Gallery Curator Gari Apolonio in 2021 at the height of the pandemic, Mangha-Likha was initially designed as a national art competition for a tuberculosis campaign.

(L-R) Gari Apolonio, Curator of Gateway Gallery; Exhibit Curator Mary Ann Venturina-Bulanadi; Prof. Felipe de Leon, former NCCA Chairman; Tess Rayos del Sol, Head of National Committee on Art Galleries of NCCA; and Christine Diane Romero, Executive Director, J. Amado Araneta Foundation

Apolonio and the J. Amado Araneta Foundation, Inc. team applied for it as an art exhibition grant with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. Once approved, Apolonio and the Gateway Gallery team worked with Curator Mary Ann Venturina-Bulanadi, Ph.D. to realize the vision of the exhibit.

Bulanadi engaged with the eight selected artists, retrieving their backstories and their artistic vision. With her probing, Bulanadi was able to extract the essence of their art-making and searched for their timeliness and relevance in contemporary society.
(L-R) Curator Mary Ann Venturina-Bulanadi with artists, Tet Aligaen, Percy Denolo, Gilbert Angeles, Sasha Garcia,  Mai De Dios, Marvel Obemio, and Noel Quidlat Jr.

The eight artists, who produced new works solely for the exhibition, include Tet Aligaen, Gilbert Angeles, Mai Pimentel De Dios Percival Denolo, Sasha Garcia, Jordan Bulanit Mang-Osan, Marvel Obemio, and Noel Quidlat. Each artist presents a mini-exhibit of their latest works while presenting their background and story.

Tess Ureta Aligaen is a needlework artist who uses different kinds of fabric with varying patterns and colors using embroidery techniques. Gilbert Calderon Angeles creates eco-paintings using plastic laminates of ground shampoo sachets. Percival Denolo is the mud artist who gained national renown with his Pilipinas Got Talent exposure. Mai Pimentel De Dios uses discarded palochina as her healing canvas, having survived a cancer episode.

Sasha Garcia stitches her life using thread on repurposed fabric. Jordan Mang-Osan, the solar artist, harnesses the power of the sun to create culture-based images from the Cordillera. Marvel Obemio is big on recycling; using pull tabs and other discarded plastics to create intriguing pieces. Noel Quidlat went viral for creating three-dimensional portraits through masking tape and backlight.

Mangha-Likha therefore goes back to the core of what art is and could be. As it combines the marginal and the marginalized in the present environment, the exhibit seeks to relay a strong message on sustainability, inclusivity, equality, solidarity, ecological balance, and recycling, while promoting the values of courage, resilience, determination, resourcefulness, and originality.

The exhibit opened on August 16, 2023 with Guests of Honor Prof. Felipe de Leon, former Chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Tess Rayos del Sol, the Head of the National Committee on Art Galleries under NCCA, and Christine Diane Romero, the Executive Director of the J. Amado Araneta Foundation.

Mangha-Lika is supported by the J. Amado Araneta Foundation and runs until September 18, 2023. The Exhibit reach is amplified with a published catalog and a video tour of the Exhibit which will be uploaded soon on the Gateway Gallery YouTube Channel.

Linya-Linya strengthens community-driven initiatives with launch of “Tulong-Tulong” at Linya-Linya Land 2023

Aside from showcasing music, comedy, and arts at the multi-format festival, the witty t-shirt and content creation company aims to provide a platform for their partner organizations to educate the public about their advocacies and cause.

Along with the country’s top musicians, comedians, and artists, Linya-Linya will be bringing its partner organizations to Linya-Linya Land 2023 where they will be given a space to inform and educate the public about their causes, get donations for their beneficiaries, and recruit volunteers for their projects.

Best known for its witty and punny Filipino lines on shirts and content, Linya-Linya has long been doing its part to put smiles on its partner organizations through “Tulong-Tulong,” a program for all of the brand’s outreach efforts. Currently, Linya-Linya partners with several organizations that cover advocacy on education, equality, and animal welfare, including: AHA! Learning Center, Angat Buhay Foundation, Mindanao Pride, Love Yourself PH, and Pawssion Project.

Through selling of select shirts and other merch, Linya-Linya is able to provide funds and awareness to help the said organizations. Linya-Linya’s Creative Director Ali Sangalang explains the importance of extending a helping hand to amplify the messaging of the cause. “Bilang mga Pilipinong humaharap sa iba’t ibang hamon sa panahon ngayon, mahalaga ang tulong. Pero ang totoo, mas malakas at mas epektibo kapag tulong-tulong tayo.”

Tulong-Tulong started at the height of the pandemic, during the time when frontliners and families-at-risk were in need of medical-grade supplies. To extend help, portions of the sales of selected Linya-Linya shirts were donated to Frontline Feeders PH, AHA! Learning Center, and Life Cycles PH.

With the success of this simple gesture to help the people in need amidst the pandemic, Linya-Linya strengthens the initiative by giving shirts to students, mothers, and teachers from AHA! Learning Center and helped in renovating the Angat Buhay Community Learning Hub in Area 17, UP Campus, Quezon City.

Celebrating Filipino talent and supporting local artists has been a part of Linya-Linya’s advocacies. Alongside the celebration of these collaborations, attendees are up for a special treat as Linya-Linya launches new limited edition shirts in collaboration with “Bawat Daan” singer Ebe Dancel and the classic and iconic comic artist Pol Medina, Jr

The upcoming limited edition “Hari ng Sablay” collab shirt with Ebe Dancel
