Century Park Hotel’s Deli Snack Is One of Manila’s Finest Breadery and Delicatessen

Century Park Hotel (CPH), one of the finest hotels in Manila, is proud of its Deli Snack – a food outlet known for its wide array of breads, pastries, cakes and deli.

Breads and Pastries

Are you craving for soft breads with creamy butter? Do you have a penchant for French pastries? Or you just cannot help thinking about that chicken empanada for your merienda?

Deli Snack offers a wide array of treats and pastries from all over the world. Way back from the staples of the Medieval era of rye bread up to the modern-day rainbow bagels, we give customers an extensive range of breads and pastries to choose from. These universal comfort foods can be paired with coffee, hot chocolate, tea or any drink to suit your mood.

Our banana walnut loaves and raisin breads have generous servings of bananas and raisins for your delight. For the health-conscious, rye, kornpep, mini-French and farmhouse dark breads are available to fit one’s healthy lifestyle.

The outlet's classic cream puffs and chocolate eclairs will surely tickle your taste buds and satisfy your sweet tooth! Make sure to reserve your share a day before your visit as these goodies are the crowd’s favorite!

Cakes and Chocolates

Special occasions call for heavenly Cream Cheese Cake and Red Velvet Cheese Cake. Savor the goodness of Supermoist Cake’s layers of chocolate ganache (in photo) or Torta Nocciole Di Cioccolato’s chocolate-covered coffee beans which are guaranteed to be the highlight of the party. These highly-pleasing sweets will keep you coming back for more!

One of the best homemade luscious sweets is the Crispy Bonbon, a milk chocolate with crunchy nut filling made of divine wafers and fine almonds. Cappuccino Praline is another sweet treat that tops the list: its dark Belgian chocolate and Tanduay rhum are blended into a smooth texture. Bonbons and pralines are prepared inside the Century Park Hotel’s chocolate room and can be purchased in boxes of six or twelve.

Cold Cuts and Sausages

Not to be outdone, Deli Snack’s original cold cuts such as: all-natural smoked bacon, black forest ham, luscious pastrami, choices of sausages, smoked salmon and selections of chorizo are carefully made by the hotel’s remarkable chefs and are readily-available at the outlet.

You can also buy packs that come in handy for your own home cooking or wine and cheese pairing.

A Taste of Nostalgia

Today’s loyal patrons recall accompanying their parents at the Deli Snack who were devoted customers themselves. They still remember the delicious smells of the ube cheese ensaymada and the tartness of Danish pastries. They now relive that memory with each visit.

From generation to generation, Deli Snack has become synonymous to providing baked goods and delis to complement any occasion. Its reasonable prices have also made the outlet a byword to its loyal patrons through the years.

From 8AM to 8PM, customers are welcome to drop by and purchase various treats. Incidentally, bread lovers can also avail of Deli Snack goodies at half the price from 7pm to 8pm daily.

Having the best deals do not always have to be expensive, sometimes it just starts from finding the right place in the heart of Manila.

“Deli Snack will always be one of Century Park Hotel’s greatest assets. Our pastries and cold cuts are specially crafted by our very own outstanding chefs,” said Anthony Tan, CPH’s General Manager. “These delights have been continuously enjoyed through the years,” he further added.

Get to know: TINGHUN, The Filipino - Chinese Engagement

Before tying the knot, Filipino couples practice “pamamanhikan”, where the groom formally asks the hand of the woman for marriage, to bring both the man and the woman’s families closer. Interestingly, a great number of Filipino - Chinese immigrants staying in the country also have a similar engagement tradition called Tinghun.

Tinghun Rituals

Tinghuns are commonly known for the unique and traditional rituals presented during the ceremony. One of the first rituals practiced is the walking of the bride backwards when entering the place where the event is held. This is to prevent the bride from seeing the groom immediately and to avoid negative energy.

The backward walk is followed by another ritual, where a married woman with a wealthy and healthy family, whom the bride should see as a role model, turns the bride three times until she is allowed to meet the groom.

After the entrance, the ceremonial serving of the drink happens. The drink, which symbolizes happiness and good luck, is served from the eldest to the youngest members of the family, while the soon-to-be married couple is served last. Sweet tea soup, which signifies harmony, is also served to the entourage.

Symbolic Exchange of Gifts

Aside from the rituals, Tinghuns are also renowned for their extravagant exchange of gifts from the groom and the bride’s respective families. It is common to exchange jewelries and expensive watches between families, but there is no exact list of items, as they depend on the financial capabilities of the wife or the groom, what is important is that the gifts come in pairs.

More than jewels that signify financial capacity, noodles (misua), eggs, rounded fruits, cakes, and sweets are also exchanged. Noodles in the Chinese culture have always signified longevity. The eggs, on the other hand, symbolize fertility in the hopes of building a family in the future. Fruits symbolize wealth, while the cake and sweets signify a sweet start for the couple.

The gifts are wrapped in containers with “喜喜” stickers on top. This is called the Sanghee, which expresses double happiness.

Planning a Tinghun

Presently, Tinghun is not as frequently observed in China anymore. However, traditional Filipino - Chinese families still practice the ceremony. Tinghuns are usually held at the house of the bride as it is the groom’s time to formally ask for the woman’s hand for marriage. Presently, the ceremony can now be held at hotels and restaurants for easier set-up and preparation.

Fortunately, Century Park Hotel, one of the leading hotels in Manila, offers engagement packages which can make planning your Tinghun easier which start at Php. 370,000. The package already includes two pairs of engagement cakes, cha mi sua, special tea, sweet boiled eggs and many more items in the Tinghun checklist.

To know more about the package and Century Park Hotel’s Chinese Lauriat menu, please call (+632) 528 - 8888 or 0917-528-5888, or email information@centurypark.com.ph.

Booking a venue is one thing, preparing the event is another. In fact, there are even professional bridal consultants who can help in arranging the ceremony.

Tinghun is just one of the many of the many rituals done to preserve and celebrate the Filipino - Chinese culture and identity, but there are also other traditions woven into the daily lives of the Filipino-Chinese which are also worth discovering.

Five Benefits of a Staycation

Staycation, a combination of the word “stay” and “vacation” is not a new concept. It is simply when one chooses to stay at their home country or check-in at a hotel, instead of going abroad for vacation. A staycation or holistay, as defined by Wikipedia, is also a period in which an individual participates in leisure activities within driving distance of his or her own home. Lately, the trend has been increasing as more numbers of people now find more peace by spending time at home and have some needed rest and relaxation. More than that, staycations also offer a lot of quiet and humble benefits.

1. Staycation  save time

Living in the Philippines means having to battle at least 3 hours of travel going from home to work and vice versa. Just imagine how much worse the traffic can get when it is a drive going to the airport! More than that, long airline terminal queues also eat up a significant part of a traveler’s day. Add all the hassle of traffic, terminal queues, departure procedures, etc. One day could easily be wasted on preparation.

2. Staycations are good for the environment

Checking in at a hotel also means contributing less to your carbon footprint! You would not have to use airplanes which require a massive amount of carbon emissions. Staying in a hotel is less harmful to the environment and really just pampers you to the core.

3. Staycations give time for meditation

Our fast-paced lifestyle limits our time to meditate and value the importance of rest. Taking a break during a staycation allows you to spend your energy on your body and use it as a time for spiritual, emotional, and physical rest and healing.

4. Staycations can inspire

Having some down time also gives you a chance to explore more ideas. Quiet times away from chaos can generate fresh ideas and inspirations that can later be turned to productive projects.

5. Staycations save money

Staycations also save a huge amount of money. You need not worry about spending so much on food, budgeting travel expenses, and expensive air fares. All staycations really ask of you is to stay put and rest at your own terms.

Already convinced to hold your well-deserved, yet affordable R & R? Century Park Hotel (CPH) is here to make it happen! Located at the heart of Manila, CPH boasts facilities and rooms that are perfect for you to simply unwind and enjoy your time with your family. Currently, CPH has Summer Solstice Special Room Rate promo which starts at Php 3,500 (net) per room per night. Now reap the benefits of that staycation the quick, affordable, and easy way at your home away from home, Century Park Hotel!
