Philips launches LED Promise campaign “The Promise of a Greener World”

Philips guarantees consumers that its LED lighting products offer long lasting and consistent brightness, savings on energy and cost, and guaranteed safety. Partnership with photography club ties Philips efforts in sustainability with environmental awareness.

I enjoyed the wonderful world of Philips. Last Saturday, May 4, 2013, Philips Lighting Philippines kicked off its LED campaign  at the SM Mall of Asia.

Entitled “The Promise of a Greener World”, the campaign emphasized how using LED lighting solutions can help reduce the Philippines’ carbon footprint, and avert the drastic effects of global warming.
The event was hosted by popular TV host Suzi Entrata-Abrera, featured Philips’ latest range of LED lighting products, together with its newest Brand Ambassador, popular TV personality and triathlete Kim Atienza.

Philips Country Manager and General Manager for Lighting Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno said that  Philips LED lighting solutions are not only energy-efficient but also provide a superior quality of light. With this campaign, we hope to share with consumers the facts about LED lighting solutions and encourage them to make the simple switch to sustainable lighting solutions that is environmentally-friendly.”

“Philips Lighting is a strong advocate in environmental sustainability with our commitment to green manufacturing and solutions. That is why we decided to work with Kuya Kim to help spread the sustainability message as he is a strong advocate to make the planet a better place for current and future generations,” he added.

Philips also had an environment-themed photo exhibit run concurrently with its LED product launch, which featured the images captured by the finalists of an online contest that Philips conducted in partnership with the Young Photographers Club (YOPHO).

“Our group is honored to have been chosen by Philips as a partner for this noble initiative. We hope that we were able to underscore the importance of preserving the environment through our photos, and encourage everyone to do their share in conserving our resources,” stated YOPHO president Daniel Formoso.

The World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF Philippines) also supported Philips in its LED campaign. “For three years, Philips has been supporting Earth Hour and our various energy efficiency initiatives. This new LED campaign helps Pinoys go beyond the hour to save the planet, one LED bulb at a time,” said Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan, WWF Philippines Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Recognized as a world leader in lighting, Philips strives to educate consumers on the ideal characteristics they should look for in good quality LED lighting products.

“Aside from making consumers aware of the many benefits they can get from using LED lighting solutions, we want them to understand that they need to choose good quality LED lighting products to maximize the product’s potential,” said Tetteroo-Bueno.

Philips listed down three key items that good LED lighting products must possess:
- long lasting and consistent brightness
- savings on energy and cost
- guaranteed safety
In addition, Philips LED lighting solutions are at mainstream prices, to help make the shift from traditional bulbs to LED lights much easier.

Philips will be holding LED fairs in key malls across the Philippines, in order to bring the importance and benefits of using LED lighting solutions closer to consumers.

Warner Music Philippines release debut album of ZENDEE titled “I BELIEVE”

Warner Music Philippines proudly releases the debut album of ZENDEE titled “I BELIEVE.” I attended the launching of Zendee's CD album with the media held at Chef & Brewer Cafe and Restaurant, Ortigas Center last April 30, 2013.

Zendee Rose Japitana Tenerefe, became known as “Random Girl,” “Mystery Karaoke Girl,” “Viral Diva,” and “Supermarket Superstar,” was captured on videowhen she was practicing session in SM Megamall, singing Jennifer Holliday’s “And I Am Telling You” by a passerby (Yuan Juan or youngjay0918), who happened to be a video blogger. The video, posted on July 28 on YouTube with the title “Random Girl,” quickly went viral, garnering over 2 million hits, 14,063 likes and more than 5,000 comments.

Beforehand, Zendee got her first big break when she was brought to Manila to participate in the ABS-CBN talent show X-Factor Philippines, which began on June 23, 2012. Unfortunately, she did not make it past boot camp tryouts; her friend, KZ Tandingan, went on to win. The intrepid Zendee elected to stay in Manila to try out for other singing competitions, including Pinoy Dream Academy Season 3 and Pilipinas Got Talent Season 4, both by ABS-CBN. Again, she didn’t make the final cut.

This astounding video brought her to the attention of Warner Music Philippines, which offered her a recording contract on their 1st visit to their makeshift home in the Fire Station. Zendee also caught the interest of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she was regarded as “the next big thing.” The Ellen camp contacted her in August, and together with Warner Music, flew her to Los Angeles for taping.

Her debut on the international stage, a performance of “And I Am Telling You” on Ellen, aired on Oct. 26, 2012. During the show, DeGeneres gave Zendee an iPad 3 made to look like a miniature portable videoke machine, “filled with all the songs” that the singer loved.

Currently recording with Warner Music Philippines, Zendee keeps herself busy with frequent guestings on Party Pilipinas, Manny Many Prizes, to name a few. She will perform as the special guest artist of Jason Mraz on his concert on May 14 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Her album ‘I believe’ is out now and is available at major record bars and on iTunes.

The nine-track album features six original compositions and three cover songs. The complete titles, composers, theme and concept of the songs are as follows:

“ Runaway ” is an upbeat, getting over / moving on love song with a current/new sound written by US-based songwriters and world-class composers Andrew Fromm, Matt Bronleewe, Jordan Pruitt, & Tyler Hayes.

“ The Ones You Love ” - a love song about heartache and “ Completely ” - a ‘couples song’ were both written by Diane Eve Warren. Dianne is a US-based songwriter highly regarded worldwide as a hit maker with hundreds of hit songs under her belt.

“ I Believe ” - an inspirational love song with only the piano and vocals and “ If You Want ” - the only love song in the album that has only a ukulele and vocals as accompaniment. This was written by Lamberto Reyes Jr. who also composed songs for other Warner Music artists.

“ Go The Distance ”
is an inspirational song which best exemplifies the journey of Zendee and at the same time showcasing her vocal prowess. Written by Alan Menken, David Joel Zippel.

“ Hallelujah ” written by Leonard Cohen, is an ‘arena’ inspired sound which focus on Zendee’s vocal prowess.

“ Love Takes Time ” written by Mariah Carey and Ben Margulies is Zendee's version of this classic hit.

“ Runaway ” (acoustic) is a stripped-down version of ‘ Runaway. ’

The artistic and production team of Zendee – “I Believe” is composed of Flerry de Leon (Executive Producer), Neil Gregorio (Album Producer; A&R Direction), Dante Tanedo (Chief Recording Engineer), Dan Tanedo, Angee Rozul, & Efren San Pedro (Additional Recording), Dante Tanedo (Song Mixing @ Bellhaus Entertainment Studio); Neil Gregorio (Song Sequence and Mastering), Arnie Mendaros, Moy Ortiz & Neil Gregorio (Vocal Supervision), Niccolo Cosme (Photography), and Ira Cosme (Cover Layout).

A mall tour, special TV guest appearances and radio interviews will also be conducted to prmote the album. Zendee will perform as the special guest artist of Jason Mraz on his concert on May 14 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

DOH, MSD, Medical Societies Come Together to Prevent Cervical Cancer

Implement free nationwide screening for the month of May

The Department of Health (DOH), global pharmaceutical company MSD and medical societies hope to go full circle for this year’s Cervical Cancer Awareness Month in May, and strike directly at the source of cervical cancer—the human papillomavirus or HPV.

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in both men and women which causes cervical cancer. According to the World Health Organization, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer afflicting women worldwide with about 500,000 new cases and 250,000 deaths each year. In the Philippines, an estimated 12 Filipino women die due to cervical cancer each day.

For these reasons, the DOH and MSD, along with medical societies Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS), Society of Gynecologic Oncologists of the Philippines (SGOP) and Philippine Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (PSCPC), continue with their partnership, dubbed as Babae, MahalagaKa!, for the 6th year of the Cervical Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM) celebration.

Free cervical cancer screening will be offered to women aged 30-49 years old in 58 DOH-retained hospitals nationwide for the whole month of May. “Screening, either through Pap smear or visual inspection using acetic acid (VIA), should be done on women who are sexually active or had history of sexual contact. This service is being offered for free every May in government hospitals, to help detect cervical cancer in its early stage, while it is still treatable and curable,” said Dr. Rey Delos Reyes, past President of POGS and SGOP, consultant of Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

“The good news is that early this year, PhilHealth included the treatment for cervical cancer in the Z Benefit Package program. The benefit package includes cervical cancer chemoradiation with cobalt or primary surgery worth Php120,000 or cervical cancer chemoradiation with linear accelerator for Php175,000 depending on what is needed by the patient,” imparts DOH Secretary Enrique Ona.

Apart from free screenings nationwide, MSD in partnership with DOH will be providing free quadrivalent HPV vaccinations to 9,000 girls aged 13 years old this coming school year. “Our mission is not only to discover and develop medicines and vaccines for unmet medical needs but we would also like to make these accessible to people who can benefit from them. This initiative would help demonstrate how to implement a school-based vaccination program which can serve as a model for a national program,” shares Sanjiv Navangul, President and Managing Director of MSD in the Philippines.

Aside from cervical cancer, the quadrivalent HPV vaccine can also prevent vulvar and vaginal cancer, as well as genital warts. It is important to note that HPV is implicated in various diseases aside from cervical cancer such as cancers of the vulva, vagina, anus, penis, head and neck, and genital warts. It is themost common sexually transmitted infection in both men and women. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have stated that HPV is so common that nearly all sexually-active men and women get it at some point in their lives.

“Due to the many risks that HPV poses and the many lives claimed by cervical cancer, the DOH hopes that through the yearly celebration of CCAM, more and more women will be educated and encouraged to undergo screening and vaccination, “says Secretary Ona.
