Wings of the World - The World’s first half a thousand-birds show!

Wings of the World, produced by an all-Filipino team, will unveil its majestic charm from March 28 onwards at the same outdoor theatre as Winged Wonders (The 100 Birds Show).

The show will present an ensemble of our bird buddies in order to promote the protection of our environment. This 25-30 minute spectacular will take the audiences in an immersive experience before unlike anything they’ve ever encountered. 

As for the first time ever in the world, Wings of the World’s grand finale will bring half a thousand birds on stage from all directions of the Alula Amphitheater at Magaul Bird Park. 

Watch as hundreds of pigeons circle your seats. Feel a hundred guinea fowls graze your heads as they descend towards the stage. Marvel as our Rufous Hornbills, and our majestic Macaws fly over your heads. Look up in awe as the giant wings of our white bellied sea eagle cast a shadow over you. Gaze upon the colourful spectacle as Sun Conures bring a shine to your eyes.

Join us this coming March 28, Saturday as we redefine history by bringing together a breathtaking adventure with an animal show as never been seen before. 

Wings of the World will be included in the admission ticket to Magaul Bird Park located at JEST Camp Subic, and will be shown during Weekends and Public Holidays at 11am, 1:30pm and 4pm starting March 28. 

During weekdays, The Winged Wonders 100 Birds Show will be shown at 11am and 1:30Pm.

MasterCard and the Singapore Committee for UN Women entitled “Project Inspire celebrates 5 years of supporting social entrepreneurs impacting women and girls around the world."

Singapore Committee for UN Women and MasterCard announce the annual launch and call for submissions for Project Inspire: 5 Minutes to Change the World. Celebrating five years of supporting young social entrepreneurs around the world, 2015 promises to be an exciting year. 

With over 1,800 ideas submitted from 72 countries around the world, Project Inspire is now a multi-award winning initiative and one of the most high profile CSR programs in the Asia Pacific region. This year’s challenge welcomes back long-term and committed partners to women’s empowerment and social entrepreneurship: knowledge partner INSEAD: The Business School for the World; strategic partner Bain & Company; & supporting partner Hilton WorldWide. Project Inspire 2015 also welcomes new supporting partner, Top3 Media. 

Launched in 2011 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day and the 25th anniversary of MasterCard in Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, “Project Inspire: 5 minutes to change the world” is a global challenge that presents 18-35 year olds with a 5-minute platform to pitch their inspired idea to the world. With a US$25,000 Grand Prize and US$10,000 Runner-Up Prize on offer to make their idea a reality, Project Inspire 2015 will take on the theme of ‘Technology or Design for Economic Empowerment’. Applicants will be asked to demonstrate how they use design or technology as a tool in the work they are doing to enable and empower women economically throughout Asia, the Pacific, Middle East & Africa.

Applicants must submit a five-minute video detailing how the US$25,000 grant will be used to improve the lives of women and/or girls. The competition commenced on Wednesday, 25th February, 2015, and submissions can be made via the Project Inspire website; www.5minutestochangetheworld.org. 

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, 1st July 2015. This year, Project Inspire will choose twenty semi-finalists to progress to a crowd-funding stage of the competition. From the semi-finalists, finalists will be chosen to attend the Grand Finals in Singapore where they will pitch their inspired idea to a panel of judges. The remaining semi-finalists stand a chance of winning a wild-card ticket to pitch their inspired idea at the Grand Finals in Singapore by securing the most amount of supporters during the crowd-funding stage of the competition. Winners are decided by a judging panel and will be announced at an event in Singapore on Friday, 13 November, 2015.

DepEd: Palaro 2015 to highlight peace and camaraderie

What started in 1948 as a quaint inter-school sporting event in Manila became an annual petri dish of discipline, teamwork, excellence, solidarity, and sportsmanship among others.

This event is now popularly known as the Palarong Pambansa.

Over the last 65 years, Palarong Pambansa has produced outstanding athletes in different fields of sports. The road to their success, however, was paved not only by victories but also by defeats and humbling experiences. As such, the Palaro has served as a training ground for opportunities and challenges.

Conducted and spearheaded by the Department of Education (DepEd), Palaro became the pinnacle event of student athletes who are hailed as regional champions in their respective hometowns after a series of sporting events starting from the school-level to the district, provincial and regional level. The thumping heart of this year’s Palaro “Breaking Borders, Building Peace”, signifies peace and unity in religion diversity through athletic rivalry and camaraderie.

Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC emphasizes, “More than being a sports event, Palaro depicts the crucial role of sports in inculcating a sense of well-roundedness among the Filipino youth. This year, we are taking it further by not only aiming to produce holistic and strategic-minded young individual, we are also promoting respect for fellowmen regardless of religion, ethnicity or gender." 

In line with this, DepEd Tagum City division office recently held the "Run for Palaro 2015"—a fun run event where more than 3,000 runners participated to help raise additional funds for the Palaro athletes and coaches.

DepEd recognizes the significance of sports in developing the youth’s full potential to become globally competitive citizens while contributing greatly to building the nation. Hence, the Department puts a premium on the Palaro as an avenue to showcase the abilities of future Filipino world class athletes.

The 58th Palarong Pambansa will be held on May 3-9 in the city of Tagum, Davao del Norte. More than 10,000 athletes from both public and private elementary and secondary schools are expected to compete in various sporting events. Playing fields, billeting, hygiene facilities and provision for nourishment are already in place for the athletes, coaches and trainers participating in the week-long sports development program.

Fire prevention starts in your kitchen

Is something burning in the kitchen? According to the National Statistics Board, 25.9 percent of fire incidents nationwide from 2010 to 2013 were caused by unattended open flame. 

“As March is recognized as Fire Prevention Month, it is the perfect time for homeowners to fireproof the most delicious room in the house—the kitchen,” says RJ Buenaventura, Philips General Manager for Consumer Lifestyle. 

The kitchen is one of the biggest fire hazards inside the house, making it a top priority in terms of home safety. Last year alone, more than 150,000 of home fires were said to have started inside the kitchen.

But with simple easy-to-do tips, RJ says you can make a big difference in creating a safer home for you to live, work, play, and cook in.

Keep your eyes on the pan

“Neglect is the primary cause of kitchen accidents,” says JC Gallegos, Business Development Manager for Philips Kitchen Appliances. “Keep your attention on what you are cooking and try to avoid leaving it unattended.”

Unattended cooking—particularly open flame—causes more injuries, deaths, and property damage than all other causes of home fires. 

Have a fire extinguisher within reach

Where you place your fire extinguisher is very important. Fire safety hazards recommend storing it 10 feet away from the stove, preferably in a place near the kitchen exit. 

Its weight should also be considered. Make sure that everyone in the family can lift the fire extinguisher and knows how to use it.

Keep the kitchen clean

Good housekeeping plays a big role in ensuring kitchen safety. Dispose rubbish, paper, and other flammable materials properly. Also, try to avoid storing items near or on the stovetop. Since these surfaces generate a lot of heat, it can quickly start fires from wrappings and product packages. 

Go flameless in the kitchen!

If open flame is the root of kitchen fires, why not entirely take it out of the equation?
