SM toy bears bring joy to PWD kids

There is something magical that every stuffed toy bear brings to its owner; but to a disadvantaged person, child or adult, the effect is passionately special. This is the inspiration that the Bears of Joy of SM Supermalls, through its SM Cares CSR arm, bring to every recipient.

For several years now, SM has been giving its special edition stuffed toy bear aptly called Bears of Joy to chosen depressed communities and partner organizations where an SM mall operates. This year, there are a total of 66 communities nationwide that will be receiving Bears of Joy for the yuletide. Some of the recipients will be 176 students with special needs of Lagro Elementary School, through the Autism Society of the Philippines (ASP) Lagro Chapter.

Marieta F. Tan, head of the ASP Lagro Chapter, said that this is the second time that the school will be receiving the special bears from SM. Judging from last year’s response from the recipients and their parents, Tan expects to see more happy smiles from the children with autism.

“It’s truly special because the toy bears are given in person by people from SM themselves. The kids really treasure the toys they are given, especially when they see that they are from SM. Once they see the brand, they already feel they belong,” Tan affirms. “They are familiar with SM since we are always invited to mall events where the kids get free entertainment and fun activities.”

ASP is only one of several PWD organizations that are being supported by SM Cares. The annual Angels Walk is especially held for ASP members.

Tan explains that something as simple as a toy bear can help a lot in taking care of a child with autism. “The bear serves as their companion – a close friend and confidante. The toy bears somehow calm them down whenever they have emotional breakdowns,” Tan said.

According to Tan, this particular project of SM Cares “has heart because they really think of ways to support PWDs and their families. Naiintindihan nila ang pangangailangan ng mga bata. Napakalaking bagay nito sa kanila.”

The SM Bears of Joy are being sold as pairs in participating SM malls nationwide. For every pair sold, one goes to the customer while the other goes to a recipient from an adopted community or organization.

Hapee Kiddie Plant Tour: a fun and interactive way to teach kids the importance of oral health

Teaching your children the importance of oral health can be tough—especially when it concerns the younger kids. You worry if your little one properly cleans his teeth when he brushes, and you get frustrated when he forgets or neglects brushing time.

In the Hapee Kiddie Plant Tour, children will see the making of the healthy toothpaste, and enjoy fun games and activities, all focused on a central theme: oral care.

Fortunately, Hapee Kiddie suggests a fun way for kiddos to get into the brushing habit and learn all about its benefits—the Hapee Kiddie Plant Tour.

Why a field trip? Well, it is said that going on educational trips is a fun and interactive way to expose youngsters to new stuff. Seeing these up close, in real time, helps them understand how things work and why they do.

Field trips are also a welcome break in a child’s routine. As kids have different learning styles, a different learning environment would have more appeal, ultimately enriching their experience.

A field trip would expose them to sundry professions and ideas that will spark their interest in exciting new directions and eventually lead them to their life passion.

So, aside from the usual trips to the zoo, nature centers, museums and government agencies, a visit at the Hapee Kiddie Plant is one such activity that little kids would definitely learn from.

During their plant tour, children will see the making of Hapee Kiddie Anti-Cavity Toothpaste in action—and learn about Hapee Kiddie’s seven exciting flavors: Strawberry Bloom, Orange Squeeze, Tutti Frutti Twist, Juicy Grapes, Apple Crunch, Bubblegum Pop, and Cookies and Cream Ahoy.
Educational trips cater to different learning styles, helping children learn more effectively. Thus, a tour in the Hapee Kiddie Plant will surely help kids learn about oral care better.

The little ones will also witness firsthand how Hapee Kiddie Anti-Cavity Toothpaste is packed into fun packages that feature much-loved Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, Pluto, and Frozen’s Anna, Elsa, and Olaf.

More importantly, the children will learn about proper oral care through fun games and activities —and watch a video on the benefits of having healthy teeth, tongue and mouth.

Finally, the little guests will discover what the recommended amount of fluoride for little kids their age is—1,000 ppm—and that Hapee Kiddie Anti-Cavity Toothpaste complies with this recommendation.

Hapee Kiddie Plant Tours happen on Thursdays and Fridays, and lasts from 30 to 45 minutes. These follow a schedule and are done in groups, so plan ahead with other mommies and daddies or with your kids’ school officials.

Hapee Kiddie’s bonus: no entrance fee is required. Organizers simply have to make a deposit that is forfeited when the scheduled tour group does not show up.

One thing is sure: after the tour, kids become more enthusiastic about brushing time, making the HapeeKiddie habit of proper oral care an even happier experience.
