Petron activates Lakbay Alalay for National Heroes Day weekend

The country honors our heroes with a public holiday every last Monday of August which, for this year, falls on August 27. This long weekend is a welcome break for urban dwellers, and presents an opportunity to take a quick road trip to nearby holiday destinations.

Living up to its three-decade tradition of providing roadside assistance,  Petron employee volunteers will once again be providing motorists with “the best ang biyahe”  through the activation of Lakbay Alalay  from August 24 to 27.

A Petron Lakbay Alalay pit stop offers free car safety checks to ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy and will take you to your destination safely. Motorists are advised to always check their BLOWBAG—battery, lights, oil, water, brakes, air (tire pressure), and gas. There is free medical assistance in case someone is feeling a bit under the weather or needs emergency care. Drivers who need to ease their tired muscles after long hours of driving can avail of a free 15-minute massage. There are also road safety activities as well as freebies from other brand partners. And at Petron, you can freshen up in clean rest rooms.

To serve the National Heroes Day motorists, there will be Petron Lakbay Alalay activations on Friday, August 24, from 12NN to 8PM, and on Saturday, August 25, from 4AM to 5PM at the following Petron service stations:
·         North Luzon: PEC1 NLEX, Marilao Bulacan; Parkville Km 42 Plaridel, Bulacan; Lakeshore NLEX, Mexico, Pampanga; and TPLEX Km 134 Northbound, Pura, Tarlac.
·         South Luzon: PEC 3 SLEX, San Pedro, Laguna; PNCC Km 44 SLEX, Silangan, Cavite; and Star Tollways, Malvar, Batangas.

To assist homebound motorists on Monday, August 27, the Petron Lakbay Alalay teams will be on site from 10AM to 8PM at the following stations:

·         North Luzon: PEC 2 NLEX, Bocaue, Bulacan and TPLEX Km 134 Southbound, Pura, Tarlac.
·         South Luzon: Star Toll, Lipa City, Batangas and MATES, SLEX Km 44, Silangan, Cavite.

Since it was first launched 32 years ago during the Holy Week of 1986, Petron Lakbay Alalay lives on in the Lakbayanihan spirit of Petron employee-volunteers, all driven by the passion to give Filipino motorists the best ang biyahe experience with Petron.

Free sampling of Premium Wines and Spirits at The Tasting Corner

For a limited time only, you can sample some of the most iconic premium wines and spirits in the world at the Tasting Corner in selected SM Markets.

This innovative new concept is the first of its kind, and a rare experiential opportunity for those who are curious about premium brands to sample these drinks in their “perfect serve”.

Knowing the perfect serve

The perfect serve is the way in which wines and spirits manufacturers recommend that their drinks be served. Most perfect serves are surprisingly not common knowledge, and quite often they are not how everybody drinks it.

For instance, most Cognac aficionados would never think to mix Hennessy VS with ginger ale and a slice of lime, but that is exactly the way in which Hennessy recommends that Hennessy VS be enjoyed.

Everyone knows the proper lick, shoot, and suck routine for drinking room temperature Tequila, but Jose Cuervo actually recommends Tequila chilled to a precise temperature, and taken straight up.

Hardcore Scotch Whisky drinkers usually prefer their Scotch neat or on the rocks, Johnnie Walker actually recommends mixing Johnnie Walker black with ginger ale or cola. And while wine connoisseurs everywhere will usually insist on room temperature serving for most if not all wine, Carlo Rossi and Los Cardos actually recommend that their wines be chilled.

The best thing is there is no need to try to imagine what that is like, these and other perfect serves are in store at the Tasting Corner, to sample for free.

It’s all about knowing the “good stuff”

Contrary to the all too prevalent mindset in the Philippines, knowing how to drink is not a skill that is based on a person’s alcohol tolerance levels. The real skill doesn’t lie in the ability to drink huge amounts of alcohol, but in knowing the difference between an ordinary drink and “the good stuff.”

This is an idea that millennial drinkers really seem to already be embracing. The one of a kind experiential event that is the Tasting Corner will help broaden their appreciation for the good stuff all the more.

Addressing the media and VIPs at the launch of the Tasting Corner, Mr. Antonio Villasenor,CEO of Blue Mountain, the exclusive distributor of wines and spirits in all SM Markets explained: “The main objective of the Tasting Corner is to give our valued customers a new shopping experience at SM Markets’ Wine & Liquor Section.

We are giving them a unique opportunity to know top wine, liquor, and beer brands with the help of our Brand Ambassadors who will not just share their expertise but let them taste the liquor themselves; so they may compare and pick which brand suits them the most”.

Pepe Herrera, the accidental star The sexy comedian in "The Hopeful Romantic"

Pepe Herrera became a household name because of his character as Benny in the ABS-CBN prime time show FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, in which he played the sidekick of Cardo (Coco Martin) for a time.

And then he exited the show for personal reasons.

Admittedly, Pepe admits that the teleserye has been his biggest break in mainstream showbiz.

But even before Ang Probinsyano, this singer-actor has already proven his mettle as an artist.

He already has an acting award and has secured a title role in a much-applauded musical, which has had couple of reruns for continued clamor, Rak of Aegis.

In 2016, he was awarded the Best Actor trophy for his portrayal in the movie Sakaling Hindi Makarating.

Born Jose Nicolas Emmanuel Herrera, Pepe comes from a typical middle class family.

“Yung mother ko teacher, yung father ko government employee. Ipinanganak ako sa Caloocan pero we stayed most of my life sa Quezon City,” the actor relates.

He attained a Bachelor of Music in Voice from the Conservatory of Music in University of Santo Tomas and was a member of the campus’s well-known choral group, Coro Tomasino.

He graduated in 2011.

His love for music has always been in his blood, he says.

“Nagsimula ang hilig ko sa school, e. Where I studied, PWU JASMS, maraming ino-offer na extracurricular activities, yung isa don yung music club. Napasali ako sa ganong clubs, tapos nagustuhan ko, tapos yun, tuloy-tuloy na.”

While his college course isn’t the kind that would land him an office job, his parents, especially his mom, encouraged him to pursue it because it is what he loves.

“Yung mother ko in-encourage pa niya ako na music ang kunin. I almost entered Fine Arts sa UST, e, nung time na yon ang feeling ko ang maraming pera is advertising.

“Pero sabi ng nanay ko, napansin niya sa akin mas mahilig akong kumanta at mag-perform bakit hindi daw ako mag-music.

“Hindi ko makakalimutan ang sinabi niya, kung saan ka magaling at saan ka masaya, yun ang piliin mo, kusang darating ang pera.”

After graduation, he immediately grabbed the opportunity to work as a waiter in a cruise ship.

And to satisfy his desire to perform in front of the audience, he worked as a singer at night.

And while working as a singer at the ship was just his sideline, it was then that he truly realized his passion: the perform and please a crowd.

“Do’n ko na-realize na gusto kong mag-perform as a singer for a living,” he related in an interview.

His work on the cruise ship lasted for 10 months.

After that, he returned home and followed his passion, which is performing and teaching kids.

“From being a waiter, kusa na lang akong bumalik sa pagiging performer hanggang naging full time uli performer. Nag-seaman ako pagbalik ditto kumakanta-kanta pa rin pero full time job ko teacher music teacher tapos eventually, naging full-time actor performer ako.”

He got a support role in the Enrique Gil-Liza Soberano prime time hit series Forevermore in 2014, and the rest, as they say, is history.

He says, he never imagined that he would be popular, thanks to his role as Benny in Ang Probinsyano.

Admittedly, he says he had to adjust because of the fame that he acquired.

“Honestly, nung una, it was a bit overwhelming for me kasi medyo naturally relaxed ako na tao. So I love my privacy, doing things my own way, so yung restriction na kaakibat ng pagiging aktor, it was overwhelming for me. Siguro after ilang years and much-needed rest, ngayon masasabi ko na manageable na siya. Somehow I was able to manage yung stress.”

Meantime, Pepe will finally be the lead of an upcoming movie, The Hopeful Romantic.

He plays Jess, a 33 year old Valet Parking Attendant at The Manila Hotel, an honest man and most of all, a virgin. He promised himself that he will only give himself when he already found his true love.

Veronica, (played by Ritz Azul), is a kept woman in the high society world. A victim of circumstances, but still a survivor.

Jess meets Veronica at the hotel bar. Instantly, he gets mesmerized by her presence. One thing lead to another, and Veronica gave Jess the “first time”. Jess, believing in the magic of what happened between them, decides that Veronica is his one true love.

However, there is one problem; Veronica has no idea that he is not rich. Afraid that revealing himself will make him lose Veronica, Jess starts to pretend the part. He kept on doing this until his resources spill away. The inevitable happens, and Veronica learns the truth about Jess.

Tagged as the sexy comedian, The Hopeful Romantic is the first film of Pepe in a lead role.

The Hopeful Romantic opens September 12, 2010. The funniest romantic flim of the season is directed by Topel Lee.
