Don't Look Up is coming to Netflix December 24 with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence

Don't Look Up
is an upcoming American satirical science fiction black comedy film written, produced, and directed by Adam McKay and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence as two low-level astronomers attempting, via a media tour, to warn mankind about an approaching comet that will destroy Earth.

Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep round out the ensemble cast.

Produced by Hyperobject Industries and Bluegrass Films, the film is set to receive a limited theatrical release on December 10, 2021, prior to streaming on Netflix on December 24, 2021.

About Don't Look Up:

Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem — it’s on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent  President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry). With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media-obsessed public before it’s too late proves shockingly comical — what will it take to get the world to just look up?!

How father and daughter stay stronger than lifelong disabilities

Winston Maxino and daughter Brina live with disabilities, yet they continue to prove that they can live life to its best. Through it all, they choose to be stronger for each other so they can continue to celebrate living.

“Brina inspires me to live on and enjoy life. She is my source of strength; seeing her achieve so much despite her condition. It tells us that one’s capabilities are what will eventually define a person. Disability is no hindrance to success,” Winston opens up.

Remarkable resilience

The pandemic helped Winston and Brina realize the importance of patience, social connectivity and family. Brina has found a new love for Zumba dancing, while Winston is rediscovering videography, photography and some magic tricks (he was once a member of International Magicians’ Club). They also bond over movies and board games with the family. During their own time, father and daughter are busy with their respective work: Winston as a Management Consultant, and Brina as a pre-school Assistant Teacher.

It’s remarkable how father and daughter are able to find ways to enjoy life even through tough times. You’d find it hard to believe that Winston has a rare and incurable disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis, a condition in which the spine and other areas of the body become inflamed1, while Brina is living with Down Syndrome. These disabilities, however, never slowed them down. They simply know where to find the strength they need to live productively.

“Prayers, a lot of prayers. Acceptance of my condition and having the strong belief that tomorrow will be a better day,” Winston says when asked about where he gets his strength. Brina, on the other hand, counts on her parents to get her through any difficulty. “Relax first. Then ask for help from your parents. They know what to do,” she affirms.

Future secure

Winston wants Brina to continue living a fulfilling life so he made sure that she is all set to cover uncertainties in the future.

“We are doing our best to make Brina as independent as possible, both emotionally and financially. She is now gainfully employed. She has her own money to spend. We continue to build her trust fund to finance her living in the future even when we are gone,” Winston affirms.

To add to his peace of mind, Winston takes comfort in the fact that Brina is covered with FWD Life Insurance’s two insurance products that provide her and her loved ones with life protection. At the same time, she also has the opportunity to earn from investment funds as well. This way, she can focus more on her dreams and live her life to the fullest amidst any kind of challenges.

Stronger than disabilities

Brina describes it best when asked what to do when faced with a difficult situation: “Always believe in yourself…Just keep on trying.” As a Special Olympics’ International Global Messenger, Brina says she also gets her confidence from the global movement’s “Athlete Oath”: ‘Let me win; but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”

And believe, she does. At 25, Brina has achieved more than what was expected of her. She finished three college courses: certificate for General Clerical Skills, diploma for Associate in Arts, and degree for AB History. Just like her dad, she is also an inspirational speaker. She was the lone Person with Disability chosen as United Nations’ UNESCO Global Champion for Inclusive Education. She has already shaken the hand of former US President Barack Obama. She is also a model, and acted as herself in Magpakailanman’s episode, “My Beautiful Daughter: The Maxino Family Story”.

At the rate she’s going, one may think that Brina can already rest on her laurels. The young lady, however, still has dreams to fulfill. “I would like to be an entrepreneur. I want to have my own grocery store or own my own school,” Brina shares. She further reveals that she gets her confidence from her dad, whom she also considers her best friend.

To this day, Winston is still amazed at how much Brina has accomplished and marvels at how much more she can do. Brina admires everything her dad does and together they are a formidable force proving that no disability is greater than their capabilities.

Director Joven Tan shares the inspiration that Yorme:The Isko Domagoso Story brings

“Yorme: The Isko Domagoso Story”
with all the songs and music written, and the movie, by director Joven Tan is all set to bring on the silver screen, the aspirational and inspirational life of Francisco Domagoso, popularly known as Isko Moreno.

Director Joven Tan begins:
“It has always been a dream of mine to direct a musical wherein people will be able to witness the struggles of a person, and how he triumphs from them and how he made all his dreams into realities. The life story of Isko Moreno is the perfect material for it. This film was not that easy to do because we did it during the pandemic. Despite all the restrictions, we finished and I am thankful of that fact.”
The most important chapters in the life of Moreno are highlighted in the movie. His life as a boy garbage collector, Raikko Mateo plays. His teen, high school life and That’s Entertainment days, McCoy de Leon portrays it. The politician and political chapters of his well-chronicled and documented life, Xian Lim steps in the shoes of the current Mayor of Manila.

Director Tan carries on:
“Majority of us has an idea on the what and how of Moreno’s life. The why’s and wherefore of it, the dreamer, the hard worker and the survivor, nasa movie na ito. Mas makikilala natin siya. Isko is the real deal. From time to time, he stumbles, gets not only physical but emotional bruises and scars, he laughs, weeps, hopes for a better tomorrow and today, a fighter and not a quitter.”
15 original songs are in the movie and direk Joven describes them as: “They are songs of hope. That is what I want to convey and what the audiences to realize. Masaya man o malungkot ang kanta, I want them to know that the saying hope springs eternal is true.”

For the director, the most inspiring lesson from the life of Isko Moreno is:
“We are the captain of our ship. We are the drivers of our lives. We have the choice to make or break our lives. Kung susuko tayo, hindi natin makukuha ang pangarap natin… kung tataasan natin ang pangarap natin, maabot man natin kahit kalahati noon, mataas pa rin. Libre ang mangarap, sabayan lang natin ng pagsisikap at pagdadasal.”
Also in the cast are Janno Gibbs, as German Moreno, Jestoni Alarcon as Daddy Wowie Roxas, Tina Paner and Ramon Christopher Guiterrez, as the parents of Isko, and MJ Lastimosa as Mrs. Diana Ditan-Moreno.

Former That’s Entertainment members namely Keempee de Leon, Jeffrey Santos, Lovely Rivero, Karen Timbol, Maricar De Mesa, Jennifer Mendoza, Bryle Mondejar, Ricky Rivero, Jojo Abellana, Manolet Rippol and Jovit Moya also appear in the movie.

Isko’s reaction when he watched the finish film? Director Tan replies:
“At first, he was pensive. It seems that he is enjoying the experience. Parang flashback sa kanya. His reactions were sincere and spontaneous lalo na kung detailed yung napapanood niya. He was in glee to see that in some of the scenes, he saw a former teacher. He even recollected the names of his classmates especially the ones who taunted and teased him before. He recalled the names of their neighbors. I observed that his eyes turned misty in some portions of the movie. While he’s watching, ako, siya naman pinapanood ko kasi kung ramdam niya yung pinagdaanan niya, I am sure ramdam na rin ng taong manonood ang mga hirap, tagumpay na nadaanan niya.”
Yorme:The Isko Domagoso Story, produced by Saranggola Media Productions and distributed by Viva Films, opens in cinemas on December 1.
