In what is to be a meeting of two cultures with shared values, this search is set to redefine Filipino-Chinese beauty, and to pave the way for better business relations. It also aims to realize cultural and artistic goals that are shared between the Filipinos and the Chinese.

At the formal launch held in Gloria Maris Gateway, a total of 24 Filipino-Chinese candidates, split between males and females aged 18 to 25 were formally presented. The search is on for the “Miss Tourism World Philippines 2014”

This year, Miss Tourism World Philippines, one of the biggest national pageants happening in the country today, is in search for young, lovely and talented Filipina who would want to be the next beauty queen.

The main pageant will be held in SM MALL OF ASIA ARENA this June 2014.

Miss Tourism World Philippines will be the first in the history of Philippine pageantry and in the rest of the world to give away 10 International Titles and an opportunity for its candidates to go abroad all expenses paid and compete on international beauty pageants representing the Philippines. Join and grab one of the 10 crowns and 10 major titles, aside from the Miss Tourism World International.

There is no doubt that the Filipina beauty is one of the most captivating in the world, after bagging numerous international crowns these past years.

But what sets this contest apart is that Miss Tourism World Philippines 2014 is perhaps the first of its kind where winners will each be involved in actually performing socio, civic, economic and humanitarian activities in their hometowns. At the same time, winners have the opportunity to help promote tourism as Ambassadresses of Goodwill in their respective provinces/cities/municipalities.

The pageant is also unique with its involvement in making a big difference in the lives of its contestants, winners and non-winners, by assuring all of its candidates the means to build on their chosen career with the pageants livelihood projects. The ladies should they fail to get the coveted crowns will no longer be the traditional “thank you ladies” but would be winners in their own right.

All of the candidates, including the non-title holders, will also be given a chance to promote their hometowns abroad, especially in the U.S. and many other countries, through the pageant’s events and shows overseas.

Miss Tourism World Philippines is looking for young Filipina age 18 to 25 years old and is ready to take on new heights with this contest. Screening starts on April 21, 2014 to May 5, 2014.

Super surreal feelings of MJ Lastimosa, Miss Universe Philippines 2014

And the 2014 Binibining Pilipinas Queens are now excited to kick off their respective reigns.

Mary Jean Lastimosa
Miss Universe Philippines 2014

After joining the pageant for the third time, new Miss Universe Philippines 2014 Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa finally won the coveted crown.

“Sobrang surreal yung feeling. Three years in the making ito for me. Sobrang taas ng level of happiness ko ngayon,” she exclaims.

26 year old North Cotabato native Mary Jean Lastimosa is an entrepreneur. A personal advocate of staying fit, she successfully established her own slimming center in Davao.
Growing up in a war-torn province, she developed values of determination and courageousness, and this is something she brought to her personal life, her career and her journey to the Binibining Pilipinas crown.

Binibining Pilipinas’ Maricar Balagtas is her inspiration for joining the pageant again, because she joined three times before winning. Whenever she feels down, she looks up at her and thinks that if she was able to do it and so can she.

On her free time, she loves working out at the gym, travelling, modeling, dancing, and surfing social media websites.

Here's the question-and-answer portion with Lastimosa, asked by reigning Miss Universe Queen Gabriela Isler

Q: "What is the greatest advantage of being a woman?"

Lastimosa answered:

"The greatest advantage of being a woman is being able to compose herself. Just like here, we're standing in front of thousands of people, not knowing if you're going to cheer for us or boo us. But we try to compose ourselves. We keep the emotions and show the beauty that is in us and tonight thousands of people are standing here, celebrating the beauty of women."

Girl Power! Binibinis celebrate International Women’s Day

GIRL POWER – Binibining Pilipinas 2014 candidates show off women’s rights signs with
Mr. Brian Poe, Head of the Research Team—Office of Senator Grace Poe- Llamanzares

The 40 candidates of the Binibining Pilipinas celebrated International Women’s Day last March 8 at the Gateway Cinema 5 in a film showing of documentary Girl Rising sponsored by SPARK Philippines Inc (Samahan ng Mga Pilipina para sa Reporma at Kaunlaran), J. Amado Araneta Foundation, and the Araneta Center.

The movie featured the inspiring stories of nine girls all over the world who were born into unforgiving circumstances but overcame adversity. The event also hosted thought-provoking talks on women empowerment from Ms. Czarina Medina-Guce, Executive Director, Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines; Mr. Brian Poe- Llamanzares, Head of the Research Team—Office of Senator Grace Poe- Llamanzares; Bai Rohaniza Sumndad-Usman, Founder, Teach Peace Build Peace Movement; and Zorayda Amelia Alonzo, SPARK Philippines Inc. President.

As representatives of the Philippines to the most prestigious pageants worldwide, the Binibinis embody Filipinas’ strength and character and are champions of women empowerment.  In an interview, the girls share their thoughts on women’s rights, gender equality and International Women’s Day.

What can women do for society?
“Women can do a lot of things in society, and we are privileged to be living in an age where we can enjoy freedom to pursue things we want to do and achieve. For me, as a Binibini, I can inspire women to become better versions of themselves and we advocate women to be empowered Filipinas.”—Binibini No. 31 Angelique Celine De Leon

What are the biggest issues for women that we should address?
“I read somewhere that the Philippines is a hotbed for human trafficking, and women are the most susceptible to this. There are women who are being exploited and violated and they were not given the choice to say no. So I think we should promote projects to push awareness on human trafficking.”—Binibini No. 5 Hanna Mariz dela Guerra

What are your realizations this Women’s month?
“This day made me realize the importance of gender equality—that women deserve to be treated equally with men and that women are able and capable of reaching their dreams. As a girl who underwent struggles in my life, I keep these thoughts in mind to fuel me to achieve my goals.”—Binibini No. 36 Krystal Alonday

Who are the women you look up to?
“I work with Noraida Abdullah Karim in CFSI (Community and Family Services International) and she is someone I look up to. She is a multi-awarded social worker who specializes in psychosocial care, and she has helped counsel countless women and children who underwent traumatic experiences in war-torn Mindanao. I admire her because of her passion for the advocacy.”—Binibini No. 22 Mary Anne Bianca G. Guidotti

What can you say about gender equality in the Philippines?
“We are blessed that the Philippines is ranked number 5 in the world for gender equality based on a survey. But at the same time, there are still problems that need to be addressed like abuse in women. But it’s a good thing that we have programs that cater to the abused and empower women.”—Binibini No. 3 Joanna Angelica Romero

If you were to win Bb Pilipinas, what advocacy would you have for women?
“I want to have an organization that would foster and support sexually abused teenagers. Like a big sister-little sister project that would help the victims. Because of my exposure to so many news stories on rape and abuse, it became something I feel strongly about.”—Binibini No. 28 Carla Jenina Lizardo

As a beauty queen, how would you help promote women’s rights?
Candidate no. 4 Parul Shah shows off her support for education for women at the
Women’s Day celebration of Spark Philippines Inc., J. Amado Araneta Foundation,
and Araneta Center
“I would advocate gender equality. Everyone should be treated with mutual respect. Your race, your religion, your culture, or where you’re from—these things shouldn’t matter. Women should have the freedom to achieve anything they want in life.”—Binibini No. 4 Parul Shah

Joanna Angelica Romero, Mary Ainjely Manalo and Julian Aurine Flores stand up for women’s rights and display empowerment signs  at the recently concluded Women’s Day Celebration at the Araneta Center
What can you say about the women’s day festivities in the Philippines?
“I am happy that there is a day for women to be recognized and it’s also an important day for us to be aware of women’s issues. I think awareness is key to solve a lot of social issues women are facing.”—Binibini No. 1 Julian Aurine Flores
