#TeamGoodBoy: Globe welcomes Kim Seon Ho to the family via e-fan meet

It was a truly kilig Sunday for PH Seonhohadas as they were taken on a reinvented (virtual) date to officially welcome #TeamGoodBoy Kim Seon Ho to the Globe family, on the Kmmunity PH Facebook group last March 21!

The e-fan meet was filled with references from the K-Drama Start-Up, Filipino games that Seon Ho eagerly played (like the traditional sipa), and fun treats given away to fans. Seon Ho gamely worked on several Filipino phrases like “sana mapanaginipan mo ako” (hope you dream of me) or “ang ganda ganda mo” (you are so beautiful), and made serious effort to guess Filipino translations of English phrases such as his on-screen moniker “Dimple Prince” which in Filipino is “Prinsipe ng Biloy” -- which he did quite well much to the delight of his fans.

Seonhohadas were also able to ask him questions -- from his favorite vacation spot, his favorite song, to his favorite daily routine. He mentioned that he wanted to go back to Cebu, where he had fond memories from his last visit and that these days, he starts his day having breakfast with his family. If his kindness to indulge fans on their requests (like a five-second staring game, oh my!) weren't enough, luckier were those who were able to join him onscreen for some games and those who were able to join for a virtual group photo.

“I truly am here because you guys are there. And I am feeling all the support and gratitude. I want to be able to give back all the love that I’ve received from the fans,”Seon Ho shared during the event.

The actor’s debut to stardom began when he played the character of Han Ji Pyeong ‘Good Boy’ in Start-Up -- becoming one of the most loved in the series with his charming smile and light demeanor.

Prior to Start-Up, Kim Seon Ho has also starred in Welcome to Waikiki 2, Two Cops, 100 Days My Prince and Strongest Deliveryman, which won him the best new actor award at the 36th MBC Drama Awards.

On being part of Globe’s family, he said,

"I am very pleased to be the newest part of Globe's family and I am looking forward to all our projects. While we are having this virtual fan meet now, when this is all over, I hope I can visit you guys."

Since the early days of the country’s Korean wave, Globe has been supporting K-fans and communities through exciting events and communities such as Kmmunity PH on Facebook.  Through creating a community wherein fans can share their love for their favorite K-Pop and K-Drama stars and interact with their kin, Globe further empowers its customers to reinvent and pursue their passion for K-Culture while being updated with the latest news and exclusive events.

Globe lights up the sky with ‘The Opening Act’ Drone Show

Globe takes the excitement up a notch for all BLINKs eagerly awaiting <THE SHOW> by staging “The Opening Act,” a BLACKPINK-themed drone show last January 29.

This is part of the telco’s partnership with global K-pop sensation BLACKPINK, which launched a new TVC and full-blown digital takeover in December.

No wonder BLINKs and non-BLINKs were abuzz on- and offline.

The Opening Act deployed 100 drones that lit up the sky with the names of BLACKPINK members Jennie, Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa as well as Globe’s latest campaign Reinvent Your World. This spectacle was shared to  BLINKs all over the country via Twitter, and Globe's official pages.

With the reinvention campaign, Globe aims to empower its customers to "reinvent their world" and open themselves to new and exciting possibilities for the year.

It does so by providing them with more world-class partnerships like this, a dependable and continuously-improving network, and making available the latest technology like 5G, LTE-Advanced Prepaid WiFi and Unli Fiber Plans.

BLINKS rave on social media as Globe gives away 1000 concert tickets

On Friday night,  Globe gave away 1000 The Show tickets to BLACKPINK fans as a gesture of appreciation to those who waited at least two hours during the kick-off event of Korea's most sought-after girl group concert at the end of this month.

Globe aimed to "reinvent the world" of millions of Filipino BLINKS fans by staging "The Opening Act", an event set to feature a series of skylight displays on January 22 using drones at the Bonifacio Global City.  The event pays homage to the highly popular K-pop group.

Set for live streaming at 7:30 PM, Globe's show contractor started its set up as early as 1:00 PM and GPS signals were strong and optimal  30-minutes before the 7:00 PM countdown.  When the show was about to commence, signals started to suddenly fluctuate. It started with five drones and escalated to 20 drones in just an interval of six minutes.

The drones did not normalize and finally lost GPS and satellite signals one by one. The show team was forced to break the program into sequences and attempted to troubleshoot and regain access to the signals.

But despite repeated and diligent attempts to reboot the drone systems and stabilize drone signal strength, it did not succeed. The team was forced to end the stream at 8:25 PM, leading to the show's cancellation.

The technical report indicated signal jamming as the most likely cause of the drones' inability to take flight.  The jamming targeted the GPS signal of the drones.

BLACKPINK is the official brand ambassador of Globe.

In a statement, Globe said,  "Due to circumstances that are beyond our control, we will need to shift our gears and reschedule The Opening Act to a later date.  To express our appreciation for all of you who stayed with us tonight, we will be giving away 1000 The Show tickets so you can catch the girls live on January 31.”

On social,  Blackpink fans went wild over the free tickets.  One fan said, “I love this partnership between Globe and Blackpink because it clearly shows how Globe loves and adores the pinks and blinks!  We really are the most spoiled fandom here!”

Another fan also expressed "this collaboration of Globe and BLACKPINK makes us feel closer to them! I love seeing them onstage and make us Blinks happy."

BLACKPINK's The Show first ever livestream concert is slated to go on air on January 31, 2021. Please follow Globe’s official page and the Kmmunity PH page on Facebook for more information about the concert and how to get tickets.

VIU supports Globe #PlayItRight anti-illegal sites advocacy with #VIUItRight

VIU, a leading Asian digital content provider popular for its online distribution of K-Drama and K-Pop shows, recently announced its full support for Globe Telecom’s anti-illegal site advocacy, #PlayItRight.

VIU Country Manager in the Philippines Arianne Kader-Cu said that Korean drama has a huge base in the country with an estimated 22.5 million Filipinos who watch online.  “The soul of K-Drama and K-Pop are the Korean idols who depend on the revenue of their projects to remain popular. We are supporting Globe #PlayItRight to protect and champion the rights of actors, staff and even the viewers of Korean content through #VIUItRight,” Kader-Cu revealed.

Globe Senior Vice President for Content Nikko Acosta expressed the company’s gratitude to VIU for its support for the company’s advocacy. “Globe with the help of its content partners like VIU wants to send a strong message to the public to consume digital content the right way.  The support given by VIU strengthens our aim in promoting good content by using the right avenues to watch, stream or play Korean content,” Acosta said.

Kader-Cu added that #VIUItRight also encourages its millions of Korean fans to support #PlayitRight to ensure that their actors and actresses’ superstardom stays alive in the industry. “Fans are the major stakeholders in the careers of Korean acts. They are the deciding factor in whether an actor, a drama, or an idol becomes a hit. They can literally make or break careers, and their participation in accessing online content through the right channels would go a long way towards helping their favorite actors and idols achieve their dreams of stardom,” she said.
From the first Annyeonghaseyo in “Bright Girl” — the first Korean drama series that aired on Philippine television — in 2003 to dancing and singing to the music from the likes of Big Bang, BTS, Girls Generation, and Twice, the Philippines has come a long way in its appreciation of Korean-made content.

The love affair of Filipinos with Korean content has intensified through the years with Pinoys, teens to the 40 something, consuming everything Korean - series, films and music. Pinoy fans camp out the day before concert tickets are sold to their favorite K-Pop bands. Tickets are always sold out on the first day. With such clamor, the Philippines has become one of the top markets for Korean content consumption.

#PlayItRight through #VIUItRight encourages Filipinos to help their Korean idols accomplish their dreams by watching content legally and rightfully.
