SCG elevates its expertise in building materials through innovative technology, creating world-class products for better living

SCG, the ASEAN business leader with an expertise in building materials and sustainability for construction products and services, launched the SCG Smartwood and SCG Portland Cement to the Philippine market in a press conference held during the WORLDBEX 2017 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City, Philippines.

WORLDBEX is the venue for the most talented architects, interior designers, exporters, and students to learn about the latest trends and innovations for the construction and building sector.

This year, SCG showcased how an innovative and sustainable home can be both stylish and durable.

“At SCG, we create and deliver world-class building materials that truly serve our customers’ needs. SCG Smartwood, a superior brand of fiber cement wood substitute, offers a variety of designs and applications while at the same time extending the lifespan of a house for up to 30-50 years. SCG Portland Cement, on the other hand, uses innovative technology to boost its compressive strength, increasing its resistance to everyday wear and tear,” said Mr. Phaskorn Buranawit, Country Director of SCG Cement-Building Materials Philippines.

Apart from its durability, SCG Smartwood and SCG Portland Cement also respectively contributes to the well-being of the environment. SCG Smartwood lessens the number of trees cut for lumber, planks, timber, and other wood products. The production of SCG Portland Cement on the other hand, involves the rehabilitation of its quarrying sites.

The company gives importance to research and development of products, which aimed at creating more value for customers and promoting environmental conservation. SCG’s ultimate goal is to respond to consumers’ lifestyle both in the present and in the future.
“SCG Smartwood and SCG Portland Cement are produced through environmentally-friendly processes. SCG Smartwood is asbestos-free so the material is non-hazardous for our respiratory systems. It can also reduce the use of natural wood for over 90% of construction needs. SCG Portland Cement is innovative because it uses the waste heat power generator system in its production process. With these innovations, we hope to continue what we started in providing green and sustainable products to our clients in the construction industry.” added Buranawit.

With growing concerns over environmental issues, it has been forecasted that there will be an increasing demand for spatial buildings and building information modelling which account for environmental impact before construction even begins. There will also be a rise in demand for sustainable cement and rustic wood aesthetic, creating opportunities for better and stronger properties for the future.

SCG has been an innovative leader in developing green products and services. In a sustainability report released in 2016, SCG identified how it is able to maintain its position as a leader in building and providing a better future for everyone by implementing green practices in its processes, producing world-class and sustainable products and services.

“We have always envisioned an urbanized future for the world without damaging the environment. SCG Smartwood and SCG Portland Cement are materials for stronger and more sustainable homes and buildings,” concluded Buranawit.

SCG Cement-Building Materials is the official core business that supplies SCG Smartwood and SCG Portland Cement. It operates with full commitment to environmental friendliness and optimum use of natural resources in line with its sustainability framework.

An interested buyer checks out different waterproofing and wood preservation products of Jardine that are on sale during the expo.

Jardine Distribution’s participation in WORLDBEX this year created awareness among homeowners and other construction companies of the latest innovations in the field of home protection and preservation.

“It has always been a practice for the company to join expos like this in order to sustain a significant presence in the industry,” said Jardine DIY Channel Supervisor Claire Ribo, who likewise pointed out that expositions like WORLDBEX “are good venues for introducing—and promoting—our home protection and preservation products.”

Pipelining Sustainability by Neltex, showcase their precise state-of-the-art, health-safe pipes, joints and seals at the Worldbex 2015

Neltex Development Co. Inc., the biggest PVC Pipe Manufacturer in the Philippines with the state of the art plant, showcase their precise state-of-the-art, durable and reliable, 100% leak-free, yet environmentally-friendly and health-safe pipes, joints and seals, during the biggest construction show exhibit last March 14- 15, 2015 at Worlbex, World Trade Center Pasay City, with the theme of “Pipelining Sustainability”.

Neltex is one of the most-visited brands at the Worldbex 2015. Many curious visitors have seen eye-catching exhibit of Neltex.

A transparent presentation and features major parts of the house that points out the important role of pipes.

Neltex offers solutions to major pipeline problems.

One of the most common problems is leakage caused by poor jointing and loose gasket resulting to non-revenue water and system loss. Pipe leak is highly caused by improper pipe fitting due to conventional installation and non-secure working condition.

For this, NELTEX offers the use of its PVC NELTEX PRESSURELINE PIPE with machine-installed fixed seal solution that leaves no margin for error.

Major infrastructures constructed decades ago can no longer adapt to climate and environmental changes. Floods and waste water still go through reinforced concrete pipes that are corroded by the hydrogen sulfide present in waste water. These should be changed to the chemically-resistant PVC PIPES of NELTEX.

Road construction is often slowed down due to pipe laying of reinforced concrete pipes. Concrete pipes are only one meter in length and heavy. Jointing these pipes are tedious and could be inaccurate, thus difficult to form long, straight pipes. With concrete pipes jointed in unevent slopes, water could not flow as fast as in smoothly straight pipes, and clogging often occurs.

NELTEX suggests the use of flexible, lightweight, six-meter long PVC NELTEX SEWERGUARD PIPE with SEWERLOCK SEAL that ensures fast installation and less jointing.

Urbanization requires that electrical cables should be contained in pipes and installed underground. Since electrical pipes are installed beside water pipes, it is a must for these pipes to be highly durable, non-corrosive, water tight and air tight. NELTEX meets these requirements with its impact modified PVC POWERGUARD PIPES joined together by means of a fixed seal technology called the POWERLOCK that renders the pipes to be 100% waterproof and air tight.

Climate change and urbanization have certainly affected the requirements expected form the pipeline industry.

Typhoons, averaging 20 times per year, and storm surges cause heavy flooding in thoroughfares and these put unnecessary pressure on water pipes and underground electrical pipes. Environmental wastes seep through the sewers at accelerated speeds and amounts as a result of the ever increasing population. Seemingly endless road construction and repairs that bring about heavy traffic in the metropolis and suburbs have become part of our daily lives. Then, there are also skyscrapers, buildings and houses sprouting like mushrooms almost everywhere.

Without a doubt, much is expected from Neltex. Neltex Development Corporation never stops to develop pipes that respond to the needs of the times because a pipe, after all, is an important component of life in the modern society.

Shane Filan returns to Manila

Shane Filan, one of the lead vocalists of super group and worldwide phenomenon Westlife fulfills a promise he made to Filipino fans last year, as he holds his much-awaited solo concert on October 1, 2014 at the World Trade Center Manila.

His new album is way more than ballads that Westlife and has been described as a “progression from Westlife’s sound.. the end result is a collection of adult contemporary songs that mix a variety of musical styles.”

The record is dominated by up-tempo and mid-tempo songs, a reflection of his own record collection, mixing pop, soul, country and even a hint of traditional Irish music. With this first solo album, Shane emerges as a pop writer to be reckoned with. Shane chooses the very first song he wrote, the catchy Everything To Me, to be his first single.

His parents owned a diner in Sligo named Carlton Café located on Castle Street and Shane used to work there as a waiter from a very early age.

Shane found his passion in music at a young age. Together with school mates Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, and later joined by Nicky Byrne and Brian McFadden the group would eventually create Westlife. Their eponymous first album was released in 1999 and shot the band to fame.

Ten albums and over 50 million sales later, the band came to an amicable split with a wonderful, sell-out farewell tour in 2012 after which Shane decided to embark on a solo career. His first solo album You & Me was released in November 2013 under MCA MUSIC.

10th Global Pinoy Bazaar on August 22-24

Global Pinoy Bazaar, Championing Filipino Entrepreneurialism since 2007

As the Global Pinoy Bazaar moves to the World Trade Center for its tenth installment, Yabang Pinoy proves the quality of Filipino brands threefold.

Global Pinoy Bazaar is Yabang Pinoy's proof that Filipino brands can compete with other foreign brands. It is an annual fund-raising event created to provide a venue for Filipino entrepreneurs to showcase their proudly Filipino products, brands, and concepts to the public.

Since 2007, it has become a breeding ground for Filipino startups to meet other entrepreneurs, artists, designers, musicians, and creative minds for them to meet, be discovered, and collaborate with each other.

For eight years running, the Global Pinoy Bazaar has been successfully championing the excellence of proudly Filipino brands, proving that we can compete with big international labels. The flagship project of Yabang Pinoy has built a community where business owners focus on craftsmanship and consumers expect loyalty.

In the 10th Global Pinoy Bazaar on 22-24 August 2014, Yabang Pinoy moves to the World Trade Center, a venue three times larger, to showcase the breadth of Filipino entrepreneurialism. The lineup features almost two hundred local brands and business concepts, from loyal merchants to budding startups, in art, design, music, travel, technology, home, fashion, and food and beverage.

“A Filipino entrepreneur is someone who believes that Filipinos have the ability to exceed or at least be at par with established international brands in terms of product quality, process efficiencies, marketing, and branding,” says Mark Carrillo of men’s lifestyle brand Fledge Clothing. The new entrant to the bazaar is equally as committed to product quality. “People are always surprised when they learn that our products are locally made. We are joining Global Pinoy Bazaar to support the local industry, and show the quality of local independent brands,” says Mark.

This conviction is not lost in Martha Rodriguez of Vesti Clothing, which has been joining the bazaar since the brand was founded four years ago.” I started Vesti in October 2010 to showcase the beauty of hand-woven indigenous fabrics from Mindanao. I joined Global Pinoy Bazaar in November the same year because I felt that it was the perfect venue where people appreciate local art, culture, and heritage.”

There will be various activities during the three days of bazaar, from talks by crowdfunding platform Spark Project and app developer JoomaJam, to workshops by crafts studio Craft Manila, and a jamming session by dance school Samba School Imperatriz Filipinense, among others.

The Global Pinoy Bazaar also coincides with Buwan ng Wika and with the “Made in the Philippines Products Week,” as declared by Presidential Proclamation No. 76.

By showcasing globally competitive Filipino brands, Yabang Pinoy strives to support and empower local micro, small, and medium enterprises, and develop the community of globally competitive Filipino brands.

Enjoy the 10th Global Pinoy Bazaar on August 22 - 2014, from 11am to 9pm at the World Trade Center.

12th Filipino Franchise - Galing ng Pinoy Show on October 4 - 6, 2013

The Filipino Franchise Show (FFS) is a one stop shop of homegrown franchising and business opportunities specifically catered for SMEs. This event is definitely a showcase of big and successful local franchisers to new and promising franchise concepts consisting of food, retail, services, and technology.

The 12th Annual Filipino Franchise Show is the country's biggest and only exhibition of homegrown franchises. The event is scheduled for October 4-6, 2013 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila. The theme this year will be "Galing ng Pinoy," which pays tribute to Filipino innovation and ingenuity that underscores the competitive potential of the local franchising industry in the global market.

Produced by the Association of Filipino Franchisers Inc. (AFFI), the event anticipates more than 30,000 visitors and has secured already more than 300 exhibitors to take part in the featured products and services from various regions of the country. Participants can look forward to unique franchising investment opportunities in food, retail and services - as well as intriguing demonstrations, seminars, and training sessions.

In past events, attendees and participants have included local and foreign corporate executives, business professionals, entrepreneurs and investors from many industries including: Banks and financial institutions, LGU's, Academe, Real Estate, Retail, Hospitality, Restaurant, and more. Attendees have also included returning overseas professional and contract workers, seafarers and on-the-sea workers, administrators from union organizations, local and foreign retirees, and newly college graduates who want to start their own business.

Armando Bartolome, president of the AFFI, comments, "The goal of the Filipino Franchise Show is to uplift the country's micro small medium enterprise. We expect this year's show to attract prospective entrepreneurs and investors who are interested in partaking in South East Asia's fastest growing economy."
Partners for the event include: BPI Family Ka-Negosyo, The Generics Pharmacy, PLDT KaAsenso, SeaOil, Meralco, Magnolia Healthy Beverages, and ThePhilippines.com

AFFI is a non-stock, non-profit national organization of Filipino entrepreneurs and businessmen, duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission geared toward the uplifting of Filipino franchising industry.
Recognizing the needs and potentials of the local franchising sector, entrepreneurs Bob Juan of Labandera Ko, Armando Bartolome of GMB, Tony Cruz of Pancit Malabon, Jorge Wieneke of Potato Corner, Teresa Laurel of Goto King, Pacita Juan of Figaro, and Richie Cuna of Firogelato formed a bodythat would raise awareness and lend assistance to fellow businessmen. This brainchild was set in motion in 1997 and became known as the First Filipino Franchising Federation (F4).

Resources were scant and the challenges were plenty; but driven by the desire to realize their vision, the group slowly worked toward their goal. The pioneers’ undertakings were not left unnoticed. Since the year it was founded, the group has grown from seven to more than a hundred members. And in the early 2000’s, F4 changed its name to Association of Filipino Franchisers, Inc. (AFFI).

AFFI has taken a big leap from its humble beginning. From only a handful of individuals bonded by a common advocacy, AFFI is now a well established institution that inspires the public to take part in the franchising industry offering technical assistance like research and development. It also educates aspiring entrepreneurs of the intricacies of the aformentioned business sector.

Spearheaded by the incumbent AFFI President Butch Bartolome, AFFI takes on a new endeavor of seeking the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) nationwide, beginning in Mindanao.

With yet another object just within its grasp, AFFI continues to conquer new heights.

AFFI is the organization behind the Annual Filipino Franchise Show being held in World Trade Center Manila.
