“2020” Agents of Change: 10 Artists Supporting Artists

Art enthusiasts Giorgio Guglielmino and Hugo Bunzl in partnership with The Drawing Room, launched an art project celebrating Filipino talent. They produced a portfolio titled “2020” containing 10 original photographs each numbered and signed by ten of the most talented artists/photographers in the Philippines. The portfolio, in an edition of 33 copies, will be sold through the Drawing Room Gallery and with the sales, five Filipino artists will receive each one a grant of PHP 300,000. The five awardees will be chosen by an independent panel among the names that each artist participating in the project will submit.

With the collaboration of Angel Velasco Shaw and the facilities of Pioneer Studios for the production, the works in the portfolio tackle the unique struggles Filipinos are facing during the current health crisis and represent an insight on the works of the following participating artists:

At Maculangan – One of the most respected photographers in the country, Maculangan is known for his crisply shot portraits and beautifully lit interiors.

Gina Osterloh – Osterloh is a conceptual artist who uses photography to question one’s notion of identity and is well known in the international art community.

Kawayan de Guia – Known for his unique and bold style, de Guia is known for his ability to transform seemingly unrelated objects into one seamless picture.

Kiri Dalena – Dalena is well-recognized in the international art community for her works on Philippine history, politics, and social justice.

Manny Montelibano – Montelibano’s work is always subtle in its expression of the psychology of contemporary socio-political and religious structures.

Paul Pfeiffer – An internationally applauded visual artist, Pfeiffer is known for his use of modern technology to create nuanced art pieces.

Poklong Anading – This contemporary artist likes to assume the role of observer in his images that explore fact and memory.

Wawi Navarroza – A multi-awarded contemporary artist, Navarroza’s works often delve into Self and how life often meets art in strange ways.

OPPO, Save the Children Philippines Provides Support to Public School Students for Online Distance Learning

OPPO, in partnership with international children’s organization Save the Children Philippines, has recently completed the turnover of 100 brand new sets of OPPO A12e smartphones, Rock Space Torch Bluetooth Earphones, and special online learning kits to select students from public schools in Navotas City, namely Tanza Elementary School, Tanza National High School, Bagumbayan Elementary School, and Navotas National High School.

Save the Children Philippines’ turnover of donations to the recipients in Navotas City.

Parents attended to claim the A12e smartphones, Rock Space Torch Bluetooth Earphones, and online learning kits.

 Filipinos on Online Distance Learning

Securing better access to online distance learning is challenging, especially for those who have lesser means to provide for themselves. This is a common concern among the parents and students of Teacher Claudine of Tanza Elementary School, a Special Education (SpEd) teacher with six years of experience.

“Nagka-virtual orientation kami ngayon kung paano mangyayari ang modular learning…You really have to do everything and explore all means. Hindi ito normal na may problema lang, may pandemya kasi,” Teacher Claudine shared. “Sa SpEd [students] kasi they need immediate feedback. Kailangan din nila ng individualized na approach. Pero ang parents hindi sila trained to do that. Kung hindi ganoon ka-strong ang foundation and follow-up sa bahay, magiging malaki ang regression.” she added.

Teacher Claudine’s students were some of the selected recipients of the OPPO A12e smartphones and Rock Space Torch Bluetooth Earphones for online distance learning which are useful tools in helping the SpEd students to get the attention and support needed while doing online classes.

Another true experience was shared by Nanay Rosalinda and her daughter Filchriz, who has been diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay. Filchriz is one of the recipients of the OPPO A12e and online learning kit including pencils, pens, crayons for her art classes. “Hindi man niya masabi na miss niya ang school, minsan kapag pinalabas siya dumidiretso [sa daan] papunta sa school,” said Nanay Rosalinda. At home, she mentioned that they do not have a table for Filchriz to study while doing the online classes but the family is doing their best to provide what they could for her to continue classes despite the pandemic situation.

Aside from the smartphone and Bluetooth earphone donations, OPPO and Save the Children also set up a fundraising initiative through the Back-To-School campaign, which started last August. The effort resulted in funds to purchase more online learning kits for other students in need. Each learning kit includes art materials and basic safety and sanitation kits, like alcohol and face masks, for the kids.

“With the joint efforts of OPPO, Save the Children Philippines, and the kind-hearted Filipinos who have participated in this fundraising initiative, we were able to extend help to students most in need of support. We are optimistic that together we can do more for everyone if we continue to band together and lend a helping hand to each other as we overcome these trying times,” OPPO Philippines Marketing Director Raymond Xia.

As a pet owner, access to credible healthcare information is essential, especially for those who are currently stuck in their homes. It is during these times that pet owners turn to online sites and seek convenient ways to provide proper care for their loyal pets, only to be met with dizzying amounts of information — sometimes conflicting. In response to this, Royal Canin Philippines brings valuable pet information safely to Filipino pet owners through the launch of its online educational series.

Royal Canin introduces its exclusive webinar series through its mobile application, Royal Canin Club, providing Filipino pet owners access to in-depth and engaging discussions with the company’s in-house veterinarians and partners on proper pet healthcare and nutrition.

For November, topics will focus on two important areas relevant to pet owners: Tailored Nutrition for Different Breeds and The New Normal Life of Pets.

The first webinar, which will happen on November 27, 2PM,  will focus on pet food nutrition and the importance of tailor-made diets for different kinds of breeds. The discussion aims to educate pet owners on the unique characteristics of pets and how this affects their behaviors and various nutritional needs

The second webinar, scheduled on December 4, 2PM, will discuss insights and tips on how to help pets adjust to life in the post-lockdown world. It will touch on the proper diet, exercise, and activities of pets at home, as well as ideal vet visit schedules and how-tos in introducing a new pet to the family. With options still limited due to quarantine restrictions and pet owners being cut from seeing their veterinarians regularly, the webinars aim to help owners plan activities and routines fit for their pets’ lifestyles in their homes.

Interested pet owners may join the webinar series by downloading the Royal Canin Club mobile application, available on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store, where they can sign up to get the invitation and exclusive Zoom link invite to the webinars. TikTok Donates US$300,000 for Typhoon Victims in the Philippines

Over the course of two weeks, two devastating back to back typhoons hit the Philippines. On November 1st, Super Typhoon Rolly (Goni) the strongest typhoon ever recorded in recent history struck the southern region of the Philippines. An estimated two million Filipinos have been affected, many of whom lost their homes and livelihoods. Ten days later, Typhoon Ulysses (Vamco) swept through many of the same provinces previously devastated by Typhoon Rolly, including Metro Manila and parts of Central Luzon leaving widespread flooding and power outages.

Many areas are still struggling to recover from the aftermath of these calamities. Homes and livelihood across various provinces were lost to floods, strong winds and rain. LGUs and other organizations continue to mobilize and provide assistance to all who were affected by these typhoons, but many are still in desperate need of help.

In line with its mission to inspire creativity and bring joy, TikTok has pledged to donate US$300,000 (approximately Php15M) to support typhoon relief and rehabilitation efforts. US$150,000 has been allocated to the Philippine Red Cross for their onground mobilization efforts providing hot meals and other urgent necessities in affected communities.

“The Philippine Red Cross is always committed to reaching out to the helpless and to the most vulnerable. TikTok’s donation will surely go a long way in further strengthening PRC’s humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of those who were impacted by the recent calamities. You can be sure the Red Cross will continue to be there for the people affected,” said Senator Richard Gordon, Chairman of the Philippine Red Cross.

On Saturday, November 28 at 7:00pm, TikTok will also host the #TikTokTogetherPH virtual live fundraising concert featuring The Itchyworms, Mayonnaise, Kyline Alcantara, Rico Blanco, and Ella Cruz among other guest artists and local creators, joining one another on the app to help Filipinos in need. Proceeds from the virtual event will be turned over to partner organizations, with TikTok supplementing funds raised up to US$150,000.

“We stand with all Filipinos during their time of need and we want to do what we can to help all those affected get back on their feet. TikTok has been the go-to platform for happy and inspiring moments, now we are extending this mission even beyond the app,” TikTok said.

As it spreads joy and inspiration to millions of people on the platform each day, TikTok is also committed to doing their part in helping the broader community, through these efforts and through organizations like the Philippine Red Cross.

TikTok is available for download on Google Play and the App Store.

FisherSupermarket.ph now serving online grocery shoppers in Metro Manila, managed by BarapidoMart

Fisher Supermarket, the grocery superstore in Quezon City and Malabon that offers the freshest seafood at palengke prices, has also stepped up its online presence, with the launch of its dedicated e-commerce website – the all-new FisherSupermarket.ph.

Customers can now access the website and do their virtual grocery shopping, through same-day or next-day express delivery anywhere in Metro Manila.

Among existing online groceries in the country, FisherSupermarket.ph offers the largest selection of products from a single source, clustered into 18 categories – from bakery, to wines and spirits, health and beauty, homecare, pantry staples, pet care, confections, pharmacy to fresh meat, seafood and produce. What’s remarkable is its fresh catch of day that you can buy on the day it was harvested by Fisher’s heritage business, Irma Fishing.  Truly, the first “sea-to-table” online service in the metro.

Then there’s the added convenience. Fisher Supermarket has also carried over its free extra services in its fresh section – such as seafood preparation (descaling, slicing, cleaning), and fresh produce handpicked by its professional personal shoppers. Order before 12 noon & you may have your orders delivered the same day.

The new FisherSupermarket.ph is an e-commerce-enabled enterprise by BarapidoMart, the online retail brand of Barapido Inc. From being a marketplace for local contemporary Filipino heritage products in 2018 and an online grocer during the ECQ, BarapidoMart has transformed into a complete, end-to-end online retail management specialist for businesses that want to go online and grow their market base.

With services such as merchandising, management of payment gateways, customer service, content marketing and social media management, all the way to order fulfillment and shipping – BarapidoMart sees the process through – from purchase to checkout, to transporting the ordered items straight to customers’ doorsteps.

The seamless capability in retail fulfillment stems from BarapidoMart’s affiliation with one of the leading 3RD party logistics providers in the country – the Logistikus Group. Logistikus currently operates a multichannel management platform covering retailing and store operations, fulfillment and order management at multiple locations, as well as shipping and fleet operations. In 30 months of mobilization, the group has acquired 47 engagements from 27 principals, providing last mile delivery to online businesses, and working directly with manufacturers and retailers for their logistics requirements.

The COVID-19 pandemic has rewritten the rules of retail.  With quarantine restrictions forcing people to stay at home, and safety protocols limiting ease of movement in accessing everyday needs, brick-and-mortar stores have quickly turned to online channels to keep business going.  At the frontline of this digital shift are the retail heavyweights – legacy grocers and supermarkets who supply people with their everyday staples.

With COVID-19 permanently changing consumer behavior and driving more people to buy online, businesses have to contend with the attendant challenges of e-tailing from unreliable delivery, to poor customer service, inefficient inventory distribution, and competition from multiple service providers. What is critical to e-commerce success is choosing a fulfillment service that balances customer convenience and operational efficiency through a well-structured physical logistics operations.

This is the only way to meet emerging customer expectations and not just adapt, but thrive in the next normal.
